Has the network hashrate ever contracted?  Seems it expands and expands regardless of any other factors.

I believe, when bitcoin was created, difficulty rising was written into it by Satoshi. At that time though, in 2009, asic technology was yet to be invented. The huge difficulty we see today, reflects the use of that technology. Every time someone adds a brand new miner to the network, the difficulty will rise. Our only hope of contraction, is if the new form factors of asic technology, make the older ones obsolete.

It is the catch 22 of being in the world of BTC mining.

And we have two more days before the new two week algorithm difficulty rise. What I also noticed from kano's graph, mining was more successful while we had big drop in price of the BTC. Ether way mine on!

Pretty sure the difficulty has already adjusted, notice the short shift:

Difficulty adjusts every 2016 blocks to attempt to keep the block find rate at one every 10 minutes.

So, hashrate has contracted several times, just never as much as it has increased.

The continual hashrate increase is an indicator of confidence in Bitcoin.  So it's a good thing.

i want to rent some hashrate from nicehash, but it fails to connect, so which port can i use for connecting kanopool by using nicehash?
What I'm wondering is how much you can even profit from renting... I just don't see it making sense by the numbers.

As I said, look here: https://btc.com/
That shows the current expected fees for transactions.

... also of course there is a reason why I don't send out amounts below dust Smiley

So can we alter the payout on kano ?
Eh?
The payout is (still) what you earn per block.

Dust gathers under the bed until I have the new payout system complete.

Ok i phrased the question badly,  in the settings are we able to increase the payout threshold. less but larger payouts ?

Tl;dr version - nope. We find a block, we get our payout. Nice and simple.   Cool

Well put...confidence, that's what drives it.  New tech will always come about over time.  Volatility we know all about, but confidence doesn't collapse with a few red candles on a chart!

Take one down, pass it around...

Interesting turn of phrase. Mr. rifleman74 took one down a couple of weeks or so ago (an S7). He passed it around (to me) for what I believe was a pretty fair deal.
There were a couple of issues that were really out of our control, but rifleman74 seems to be a person of character; he helped me out with those issues.

So, said S7 (my last Bit.... device, ever) is now plugging away @~4.7 TH/s on Kano Pool.

I really appreciate it rifleman74!

Way to go. Happy hashing, Kano Islanders! Grin

I'm still reaping the rewards of a 1THs boost from our local native madman K.P.!

Install Botcoin Core on Linux, they say. It'll be fun, they say--actually nobody said it'd be fun per se, but I am learning a lot! Grin

Stay tuned... Looks like I'll be using Lubuntu on an old machine. More updates to come in the future.

P.S. - 163% block on the wall...
