1001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How can I create a bitcoin QR code securely? on: October 09, 2018, 05:40:03 AM
I think you want one that you can use on an off-line computer. There are these two in github, just fork them.

1002  Bitcoin / Press / Re: The United States announced the possibility of tracking criminals... on: October 09, 2018, 02:16:32 AM
Here's a better source for the story. It's from a few days ago. He isn't saying anything new -- just that fiat/cryptocurrency conversion is the point at which criminals are most vulnerable. I'm pretty sure we all knew that.

I'm more interested to know what they plan to do when people eventually stop converting to fiat. Tongue

LOL

I wonder what will be the year that the whole community will have an obsession to find the best way to turn fiat into crypto. I hope it's next year. But it may be that at some point the conversion will not be so necessary and anyone who prefers cryptocurrencies will stop using fiat for almost everything. Will receive payments and just use.

Volatility is still a major constraint. But the need to still use banks is the greatest of all.
1003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DPoS Vote Manager for Lisk - to maximise profits from staking on: October 09, 2018, 01:51:58 AM
Lisk is giving a lesson for all projects that seek to offer DpoS. A lesson on what not to do. It is essential that people who want to develop a project always study Game Theory and theory about cartels and monopolies.

A project that had everything to be revolutionary could end up with political issues.
1004  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CARDANO (ADA) Roadmap [Progress Report] on: October 09, 2018, 01:49:33 AM
Yes, this is the correct section. Now, I find it absurd to recommend reading articles instead of first reading the whitepaper or the direct roadmap on the official website. Cardano undoubtedly has one of the most complete and informative sites among all the projects. I strongly recommend everyone who is interested in reading directly from the official sources.

1005  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: "Purpose: ProveFunds" bip-0322 on: October 09, 2018, 01:17:30 AM

I would say, no. Firstly, you wouldn't have the keys necessary to sign... Only the exchange would.

But could the exchange, or any other crypto related service, prove they have funds using this future function without revealing their address?

The question is more if an exchange would be able to provide proof of its solvency. If it would be able to prove that they possess the BTC that are on their books.

I think this is still one of the big risks these days. And there is no coin or method that is safe and transparent enough in cryptos. An accounting proof that does not depend on a third party or escrow.

IMPORTANT! REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR STP TOKENS

WATCH THIS SHORT INSTRUCTIONS VIDEO ON HOW TO REGISTER YOUR STASH PUBLIC KEY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY0RJyNEkbY

For all STP token holders it is very important that you follow these instructions before the 27-09-2018, 23:00UTC or you will lose your STP tokens forever. There will be no way to recover your STP tokens if you do not follow these instructions and register your STASH Public Key.

Within forty-eight (48) hours after the 27-09-2018 23:00UTC, all STP Tokens will become fixed (ie. frozen) and non-transferrable on the Ethereum blockchain.

At this point it will be possible to launch a public blockchain platform adopting the open source STASHPAY.IO Software (an “STASHPAY Platform”) by generating a file or “snapshot” showing the fixed balances of the STP Tokens from the state of the Ethereum blockchain (the “Snapshot”).

In order for the balance of your STP Tokens to be included in any Snapshot, you must register your STASH Public Key against your Ethereum address.

It is very important that if you hold STP tokens you follow these instructions before the 27-09-2018, 23:00UTC or you will lose your STP tokens forever.

Please note:
•   Registration is only required once for each Ethereum address, even if this address was used multiple times to purchase STP tokens.
•   You should hold all of your STP Tokens in the same Ethereum address and register your STP public key to that Ethereum address.
•   Do not register the address of an exchange account, if you hold STP tokens in an exchange account, you need to transfer your STP tokens to an Ethereum address which you have full control over before the STP Tokens become non-transferable on the Ethereum blockchain which is expected to occur Within forty-eight (48) hours after the 27-09-2018 23:00UTC and then use your own Ethereum address to register. We suggest you not wait until the last minute to register your Ethereum address with a STASH private and public key pair.
•   If you hold STP tokens in multiple Ethereum address, you need to register STASH keys for each one.
•   If you wish to transfer your STP tokens to another Ethereum address, you can generate a new pair of STASH public and private keys and register them with your new Ethereum address.
•   You can always generate a new pair of STASH public and private keys and register them with your Ethereum address. Every time you do this, the existing keys will be replaced with the new STASH public and private keys.
•   If you move your STP tokens to a new Ethereum address after you have registered your STASH public key, you will need to re-register your STASH public key from the new Ethereum address

Please watch the instructions video or see the register instructions below for further details on how to register your STASH Public Key.

•   There is also a BIP39 tool available for advanced users for generating the public and private key pairs via word mnemonics. This can be found at https://stashpay.io/bip39.html

A deadline of less than 1 month for this is ridiculous. You would have to have announced with at least 2 months in advance and with a term of at least 2 months.

It is absurd to make people who have believed in the project for so long lose everything. Very anti professional from the organizers and developers.

This type of action is expected from scams. But I would not expect this from a project that seemed to be serious.
1007  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-10-03]Bitfinex allegedly partners with HSBC on: October 08, 2018, 03:40:32 AM
The importance of Tether today is very small compared to what it was in the past. But these doubts are still very damaging. Without a doubt, the biggest challenge today for the exchanges is in this fiat-crypto conversion. And this is much more important than the tools of trade; of ICO or platform speed.

It's the only thing that is practically impossible to do with engineering. Since it is a matter of regulation. But the exchange that can develop a system of converting fiat into crypto with low cost, safe and fast will be a great global leader.
1008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Circle ( Goldman Sachs, Poloniex) Invest announces Collections on: October 06, 2018, 04:11:34 AM
Blog Circle

A few a months ago, we launched “Buy the Market” - a way for our customers to buy all our listed assets in one tap. This feature was so successful that over 30% of our users are taking advantage of it. Today we are building upon this theme through the launch of 3 additional collections - Platforms, Payments, and Privacy. Users will be able to purchase all the assets in each of these categories in one tap.

Why do collections matter?
Crypto is complicated. Many projects aim to solve similar real-world problems, but take vastly different approaches to get there. Projects like Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Stellar, and Litecoin are trying to build superior payment rails based on blockchain technology so that making payments is as easy, instant, and as borderless as sending an email. If customers are passionate about this category of assets and want to invest, they can simply buy the Payments collection. Each of the assets in the collection will be weighted by market cap. Customers will also be able to educate themselves on the collections through our in-product content.

As crypto evolves, more projects will be kicked off to apply blockchain technology to various use cases. As we continue to list the crypto assets associated with the projects on Circle Invest, we will also introduce new collections and relevant educational material so that customers can invest in the categories that most interest them.

means of payment: BTC, BCH, Stellar and Litecoin
platform: Ethereum, CARDANO, Ethereum Classic Qtum
Privacy: Monero, Dash, Zcash
1009  Other / Meta / Re: Should Gavin Andresen be given a better rank on this forum? on: October 06, 2018, 12:42:29 AM

1010  Other / Meta / Re: Question about forum finances (again :P) on: October 04, 2018, 08:04:42 PM
Almost 2 million in savings at the original address. Perhaps, from now on, BitcoinTalk will be able to create its own endowment and compete with traditional institutions such as Harvard and Stanford. Financing researches, researchers and courses about Bitcoin. Unfortunately, all attempts so far by Bitcoin-related organizations have failed, but at some point, one can be successful in its way of organizing its governance.

It is unbelievable how a forum with such a simple layout is capable of creating such a productive environment where so much wealth circulates and it is distributed.
1011  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: ♠️ Get ETHER for STAKES [IMMEDIATELY] Facebook, Twitter, Moderation, Signat. ♠️ on: October 04, 2018, 07:24:59 PM
The layout of the landing page is very good. I liked the series of questions and answers that the FAQ has. It makes it very easy to understand how the serial works. There is also a series of links to the member media, this is important and passes legitimacy to the service.

Another detail that I found interesting is to have the full address of the company, as well as the company's registration in HK.

Registration to the site is simple. But I found it curious that I could not register my password. I just entered the email and when I tried to change the password it was not possible.

When logged in, the menu is on the left side. The platform at first is somewhat confusing because it has many options. To understand how the system works it is necessary to read the FAQ a lot.

Basically, it is a platform for p2p negotiations. But what is very interesting, is the option offered to negotiate ICO tokens. This is critical for Bounty Hunters who wish to exchange their tokens that are not yet traded in traditional exchanges for more reliable currencies such as ETH.

It offers all the functions of the traditional exchanges like order book and charts.

I do not know if there is a similar platform, so I thought it was very good and I will certainly use the website more often.

1012  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Let's talk about South Korea and ICOs. on: October 04, 2018, 05:23:38 PM
It does not seem to me that they are seeking legalization, but rather regulation. Legalize imply that an investment today in ICO is totally illegal and punishable with time in jail. What is happening today is a doubt about regulation and therefore is not allowed.

This is a legislative matter. ICO will gradually prove to be one of the best tools to raise values. Any country that does not regulate will be left behind. And South Korea is one of the countries where the population is more in love with Cryptos. Certainly very soon it will be 100% regulated and legal to invest in ICO.

1014  Other / Politics & Society / How China Used a Tiny Chip to Infiltrate U.S. Companies on: October 04, 2018, 05:00:16 PM
Bloomberg

The attack by Chinese spies reached almost 30 U.S. companies, including Amazon and Apple, by compromising America’s technology supply chain, according to extensive interviews with government and corporate sources.

In 2015, Amazon.com Inc. began quietly evaluating a startup called Elemental Technologies, a potential acquisition to help with a major expansion of its streaming video service, known today as Amazon Prime Video. Based in Portland, Ore., Elemental made software for compressing massive video files and formatting them for different devices. Its technology had helped stream the Olympic Games online, communicate with the International Space Station, and funnel drone footage to the Central Intelligence Agency. Elemental’s national security contracts weren’t the main reason for the proposed acquisition, but they fit nicely with Amazon’s government businesses, such as the highly secure cloud that Amazon Web Services (AWS) was building for the CIA.

To help with due diligence, AWS, which was overseeing the prospective acquisition, hired a third-party company to scrutinize Elemental’s security, according to one person familiar with the process. The first pass uncovered troubling issues, prompting AWS to take a closer look at Elemental’s main product: the expensive servers that customers installed in their networks to handle the video compression. These servers were assembled for Elemental by Super Micro Computer Inc., a San Jose-based company (commonly known as Supermicro) that’s also one of the world’s biggest suppliers of server motherboards, the fiberglass-mounted clusters of chips and capacitors that act as the neurons of data centers large and small. In late spring of 2015, Elemental’s staff boxed up several servers and sent them to Ontario, Canada, for the third-party security company to test, the person says.

I believe that a single review per user, about your product or service, is allowed. What is not allowed is pay for repeated comments on your topic for the purpose of bump. The ideal to stay in this section would be to pay in BTC. If you pay in ETH, they will transfer to the altcoins section.

Which ICO changed to EOS? I did not even know that there was some ICO using the buggy and centralized EOS.
Anyway, I think you'd be better off asking about it on the official project topic.
1017  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Story time - your ICO success stories and biggest fails on: October 04, 2018, 05:15:58 AM
Tierium and WeTrust. I thought they would be big. They are project that does not compete with BTC or ETH , but could make crypto more useful. SO I thought they would be on top 100 for a long time and decided to not sell when BTC hit 16k. Each of them has passed 100 MM marketcap in that time. And I would have won 1000x times what I have invested. Unfortunately today they worth less them the ICO price and could hit Zero as they are traded in almost none exchange.
1018  Other / Meta / Re: Why are so many topic titles misspelled/Garbage? on: October 04, 2018, 04:38:30 AM
I imagine most people who create these topics have some other accounts. They create to fulfill the quota of posts they need for their campaigns, and a topic with a silly and simple question is easy to answer multiple times using multiple accounts. I liked your suggestions, I believe that reducing the number of topics that can be created in each ranking could help a lot, but it would not be enough.

I remember when I moderated a forum that used the SMF, it was possible to see the IP of who posted easily. It was often clear when it was a person using alt accounts. Of course, many users should be using TOR and masking their IP. But I imagine that it should not be so difficult to ban in mass users that are in the forum with the only purpose of posting shit for campaigns of shitcoins.

By decreasing the number of users who only post spam, those that remained could continue participating and promoting several projects. Helping to spread knowledge and wealth using Bitcoin. I like this statement that theymos made about these users and the gain they have with the forum.

So I am very happy to see people from poorer countries on this forum and in the Bitcoin ecosystem generally, acting with ambition. IMO Bitcoin was created in part to help break down the artificial barriers which are keeping these people from prosperity. Though no amount of this sort of thinking excuses those who choose to post garbage posts, for whatever reason. I hope that we can eventually reach a balance on the forum which will satisfy the forum's primary mission of enabling real discussion while also continuing to create opportunities for many people.

Until Etherum reviews it’s contract creations terms and policies,
it has the dangers of been overcome by more comprehensive Blockchain

Overcome you mean in market cap?
ETH is the leading platform with a large advantage over any competitor. All other projects are still far away. EOS just released its mainnet full of bugs.

There is not yet a decentralized platform that competes with ETH in smartcontracts.

And if it is cheap and free to create tokens in it. Even better. That means more use and more utility. ETH is not store of value. But of course, over time and with the amount of people using and with the small stock, we will have a blast in the value of ETH.
