1001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did Laszlo Hanyecz see it as 10,000 BTC or as $41? on: March 29, 2023, 07:43:33 PM
I believe that Laszlo saw his 10,000 bitcoin as $41 and not as 10,000 BTC.  AND that is how many of us see bitcoin today and including myself. In 10yrs time, we could have thousands of Laszlos among bitcoiners, but the difference is that we won't make history as Laszlo did.

Fine, it can be as you're saying, but what does it change? Should we never buy anything because it could be worth more? It probably will be, but we have our lives to live and money is just a tool that allows us to do it. It's all spendable and should be spent.

To be clear, I'm against selling bitcoin for fiat, but I'm all for spending it on goods and services.

Let me ask you a question. If you knew that bitcoin will appreciate 5% every year, so holding a million USD in bitcoin would give you additional 50k to spend every year, would you ever sell your bitcoin? That 50k of profit would produce another 2,5k next year and you'd have more and more money, eventually falling into a spiral of greed. What's all that money if you can't be happy with it and buy what you need? Laszlo wanted pizza and that made him happy. He also made history. Will you ever? Think about it.
1002  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your take on the price? on: March 29, 2023, 07:32:37 PM
My take is the same it was months ago:

The bottom is in.
We will have a new ATH after the halving. Most likely in 2024, but there's maybe 30% chance it will happen in 2025.
The price will at the very least go above 30k this year, but there's a chance for 40k if more bank runs happen, or the FED starts printing.

I'm calm and confident. I don't have any immediate goals, expensive things that I have to buy. I have some things in mind but I'm willing to wait 2 years if I have to.
1003  Other / Meta / Re: Forum observation and polite suggestions on: March 28, 2023, 09:15:51 PM
* Forum should make creation of newly register accounts easier to avoid making people to make use of fake names, emails and ID's.

I think that it's already very easy to create an account here.
What's a fake name or email? You can make up any name you want, nobody is going to force you to use your real name here. This is a privacy-oriented forum.
If you use an email that doesn't exist, you'll just hurt yourself in case of a lost or stolen password. Just make a new email if you don't want to use the one connected to other services like bank accounts and such.
1004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about Fiat and Banks? Can Bitcoin solve the problem? on: March 28, 2023, 09:05:55 PM
Fiat is worthless. Consider a $100 dollar bill. A cheap piece of cloth-paper, with a few pretty pictures on it, and some pretty printed words. True value? Maybe a couple of cents. The $100 value is a figment of the imaginations of a world of people who value it that way.

What about Bitcoin? Even less real value than the fiat. Nothing to really hold in your hand if the electric grid or the Net happen to go down. Nothing to it at all. Only the imaginations of some of the people to give it value.

The question is, what should people be holding as value or valuable? With the world of finance the way it is these days, we need to be considering true and real value, whatever it is.

Cool

I've heard this argument multiple times. There's no way to break down the whole electric grid or Internet just like that. If it ever gets damaged and the connection between continents breaks, it's going to get fixed. If there's nobody left to fix it, that's another problem, but in such case we'll be in deep shit anyway and we'll have to barter. Nobody's going to take fiat money, bitcoin, or even coins, unless it's very early in the doomsday scenario.

Bitcoin actually has more value than fiat because it can't be devalued, like they're devaluing every single currency through central bank policies.
1005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mixing is NOT money laundering, per se on: March 28, 2023, 06:04:37 PM
Is some way this could be defined to be some kind of money laundering as you conceal the origin of the transaction, the only thing that separates bitcoin mixing and money laundering... pretty much borders around the legal side of the transaction.

Not really. Concealing is not yet laundering.

Let's say you have money from a legal source but you don't want your spouse or family to know about it. You get a friend to lend you his account, send money there and get him to withdraw money at the ATM and give you cash. All legal, but the money has been mixed.
Making it harder to find the source of money, by moving it through different banks and multiple bank accounts is not a crime, as long as the money wasn't obtained illegally.

Quote

But whatever the case, crypto by nature does have the anonymity aspect to it and the origin of the coins matter less and makes it difficult to define money laundering in this context.
It does, as long as you don't use a centralized exchange or a service that sends money to your bank account.
Here's where it becomes interesting and you have to realize 2 things:

1. Mixing crypto is not illegal.
2. Fiat money belongs to the government.

When you exchange crypto to fiat, it's like accepting government's ToS. You agree to use THEIR money and you must obey all laws regarding it. As long as you get crypto, for instance by gambling in a casino, participating in a signature campaigns, giveaways, raffles, you can freely mix it. You cannot be sentenced for using a mixer!

What is illegal then and when can you be taken to court?
It becomes complicated the moment you exchange bitcoin to fiat money. When you do it, you sell your mixed coins that can technically (but don't have to) come from illegal sources, into fiat money, that is supposed to be clean and legal, and doesn't belong to you. This is the important part, a fiat owner is just a user, but the government is in control, unlike with bitcoin where you're the user and the owner. By exchanging (potentially) dirty laundered coins into fiat, in the eyes of the government you're tainting that fiat, THEIR fiat.
1006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guys!! I was finally able to buy my home thanks to Bitcoin!!! on: March 27, 2023, 07:45:31 PM
Like in this famous meme :

LOL at that meme, as it nearly describes my situation (though I wasn't into bitcoin in the very early days).

In any case, I'm happy that it doesn't apply to you, OP.  I think it's freakin' fantastic you were able to finance a home using bitcoin!  I had this section on ignore and thus missed your thread here, but you have my belated congratulations.  To all the unbelievers, bitcoin is real money and does have real value, regardless of whether the seller of the house accepted it outright.

I love threads like these.  They warm my blackened heart, they do.

Same here, although I did not buy the car with 100% BTC, I used BTC converted to fiat to finance about a third of it in 2021 and the money came from a sales in a wide range of 25-50k as I was doing a reverse DCA. Anyway, the average price was probably 35k, so it was possible to get 2x out of it and get the car with half spending only half of the bitcoin that I did.
It wasn't a Ford though, I feel like that's an achievement all things considered.

I still did better than my friend who bought a computer in 2016 by selling some of his bitcoin. It came out to be one of the most expensive computers in the world as the price was around $500.

Congratulations on the house, OP!
1007  Economy / Economics / Re: Fed on brink of fifth(?) round of quantitative easing on: March 27, 2023, 07:31:00 PM
I've always simplified this for myself,. especially when I was younger and did not fully understand how the money works, but it comes down to a few simple points.
Make money that everybody uses and other countries value as much as their local currencies, make sure they do what you do and you eventually end up with almost unlimited possibilities.
Say you want to buy something big, like a new weapon from another country or very expensive technology. You just print some money and give it to them, or better, you promise them money and hope they don't need it right now. They'll think they have money and be happy. You'll have the product without spending anything. What would you want more?
When someone finally calls your bluff and demand money, you'll either print it, or borrow from someone else, who think you're still wealthy and trusted.
If you run out of option, you can always print enough money or send enough soldiers to destabilize another small economy, like the US tried to do in Vietnam, Cuba, Nicaragua, Iraq, Afghanistan, and most recently in Ukraine. It's always a good way to turn heads away from your internal problems by inciting a conflict somewhere else.

1008  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is storing bitcoin is more secure in iPhone than in an Andriod phone on: March 26, 2023, 08:56:16 PM
iOS is safer, like it is also safe to have your wallet on a Mac device. This is because there are simply more viruses that focus on more popular systems. Even if it is not the topic you should consider storing your bitcoins on a paper wallet which is free and very secure.

It is, but this is like choosing between drinking vodka or drinking beer. You will eventually get drunk, just that vodka will most likely take you down faster, but it also depends on the way you drink.
An apple phone might be less exposed because there's simply more malware being targeted at android users, but holding bitcoin on a phone is a bad idea, regardless of the manufacturer.

You could say that windows is more dangerous to use than iOS and linux is the safest, but that doesn't mean linux users aren't getting hacked. It all comes down to how you use your computer.
1009  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Sportsbet.io Steal money on: March 26, 2023, 08:44:08 PM
Seems like they caught a multi accounter to me...
He seems to think that if he has one account, uses it for some time, then makes another account and plays with both, only that new account will get banned from the platform and his legacy account will be spared... This is a place where we could add the good old "genius" meme.

Yes im sure i didnt used multiple accounts for what reason i should do it ? I would never risk 1300 if i was doing it. Made 5500-6000 dont even remember and blocked. Why no block when i made deposit ? Why they let me gamble if its was multiple accounts flagged, there is no logic. Its just scam and thats it .

They allow you to deposit because people often log in with VPN and the system doesn't clearly show the casino if the person has more than one account. If you create a second account using a different name and email address the system will not flag it right away and will often let you deposit. If you play using only 1 account and the second one remains inactive most casinos will not ban you, but rather blame it on a mistake, wrong login, lost password, and so on, but if you actively use both accounts you will get flagged sooner or later.

What country are you playing from, OP?
What country's IP were you using?
Did you use a VPN?
1010  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Sherbet.com 1206$ SCAM (stolen deposit) on: March 26, 2023, 07:14:45 PM
This is where I don't like how some of these casinos operate, especially in matters regarding communicating to a customer in matters regarding their account closure. Most of them never always give a proper reason why the account was banned/locked.

What is so hard with the saying "Hey Player X, we have banned your account because we discovered that you were involved in fraudulent activity A, B and C. On this day you did this and that, on the next day you did more manipulation" etc

Someone will obviously complain if they don't know why they were banned.

I've asked this on one of these threads and according to a representative of one casino, they couldn't give us any details because this could undermine their operation and make it easier for scammers. Imagine that! They won't even say how many accounts a person accused of multi accounting had because it's sensitive information.

I find it simply amazing that most of the scam accusations against casinos are by newbie accounts. I'm not saying all of them a liars but i'll bet more then half are full of shit. They open an accusation knowing full well they're cheating a casino is some way, shape, or form.

With that being said, OP you should probably send a PM to the casino rep on here so they can see your post. You may not be 1 of the shady users I just mentioned, just looks funny that almost all accusations are from newbies.

I feel like at least some of them deposit money to a crypto casino, get their account blocked/suspended and they google "xxx scam" like in this case it would be "sherbet scam" and one of the links to come up is bitcointalk scam accusation board, so they make an account and write a complaint. It's pretty understandable for people writing these posts to be newbies on bitcointalk.
Of course a lot of them will be scammers themselves, but we're here to help them get some recognition and at the very least an explanation of what was it that got them banned.

So, let's be transparent here, OP. The casino claims you've been withdrawing hundreds of USD before that one bet that was denied, yet you've posted that you've deposited $600 and were denied $1200.
What's the truth here? Did you post the screenshots this way to make it look like you were at a loss and make us defend you? Why did you lie about not being given any explanation by the casino?
1011  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: March 24, 2023, 08:21:49 PM

By the way, no wonder that he got caught as allegedly this is the document he tried to use (I sure hope there are some movie connoisseurs here). Cheesy

Do Kwon wasn't superbad, rather supergreedy. Somebody should tell his prison guards to frequently perform strip searches as he might be hiding a micro sd card full of people's crypto Wink
Also, I'm not surprised he got caught. The license expired in 2008 Cool

He wasn't very smart. According to the news, he was using a Belgian and a Costa Rican fake documents. Somebody should tell him there aren't many people who look Asian in Costa Rica, and he'd have a better chance posing as a citizen of an Asian country.
1012  Economy / Gambling / Re: NAKAMOTO ROULETTE - open and live! on: March 24, 2023, 08:05:07 PM
Bonuses and contests can indeed be a powerful way to attract the attention of gamblers, but not all casinos that provide bonuses or contests can be successful because casinos are also a determinant of success such as bonuses and contests if the one holding it is a small casino that does not have a high reputation or trust then it is unlikely that many gamblers will be interested.

If they keep providing instant withdrawals and no KYC they won't have problem attracting players. The only thing I'd worry about is a possible money laundering accusations towards the casino. That's why casinos often restrict people from certain countries like the US because the US likes to sue businesses that allow Americans to play without KYC. Sooner or later they will start blocking your site and trying to get to you. For now it's fine because you don't have enough money coming through to show up on their radar.

I play Fairspin, they allow making deposits in crypto, without commission. Plus, they have a lot of casino activities. I am participating in the tournament now, where I collect tokens that are given when you're placing bets. I have every chance to compete for a big prize, as much as $200k are on the line.

Is this a thread about Fairspin?
1013  Economy / Gambling / Re: New Casinos Launched in Canada on: March 24, 2023, 07:45:51 PM
I agree BC.GAME is the only popular casino in that list, they have continuous advertising on many faucets and they have an announcement thread here, those other casinos should follow the lead of BC.GAME on how they market their online casino.
The article shared by the @OP is clearly a fake review, I think it's a high chance all of the words are created by ChatGPT since it doesn't representing a real thing. The article said this is the new casinos launched in Canada, but bc.game already exist in this forum since 2018 BC.Game-🔴🔴🔴BET RED IN CRASH!🔴🔴🔴 Find More Unique Games!, do you think 5 years can be said as new?

Moreover bc.game isn't allow Canada since it's included on blacklisted countries Roll Eyes

3.1. Blacklisted Territories: China, Netherlands, Dutch Caribbean Islands, Hungary, Australia, Ontario(Canada), Curacao, France, United States and/or any other restricted by law country or state. Note that it is strictly forbidden to play on BC.GAME games in blacklisted countries mentioned above.your personal data for the purpose of executing their duties and providing you with the best possible assistance and service. You hereby consent to such disclosures.

It even gets better. For instance, Bodog is a very old and well known casino. It was established in the 90s and the owner is the one and only Calvin Ayre, who had some problems with the law and then decided to support a scammer faketoshi in his court cases. He had his hands in the BSV shitcoin as well. Despite all that, the casino isn't new. It's probably one of the oldest on OP's list and was available online long before bitcoin was invented.
1014  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What do you think about this? on: March 24, 2023, 07:30:46 PM
This isn't surprising at all because pastors are more loose when it comes to rules imposed by the Church. They don't practice celibacy, often divorce their wives, have illegitimate children and so on.
The fact that he gambled and decided to live a different life only shows that being a priest wasn't the way of life he always wanted, but instead it was the easy way for him. He wanted respect so he became a religious leader, but now he can buy respect. He doesn't need to be humble. I'm not religious myself so for me it's easy to understand that many people who hide behind religion are in fact shallow.

1016  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: March 23, 2023, 09:25:41 PM
The recent news brings both positive and negative aspects for the crypto industry. On the one hand, Luna holders may face another potential drop in value due this news.
Come on, if you're a Luna holder after Do Kwon dumped everything and went into hiding and after there was an international warrant for his arrest, you must be either an idiot, or in love with that shitcoin.

Quote
On the other hand, it is crucial to hold scammers accountable for their actions, as it helps prevent others from engaging in fraudulent activities.
There's no either, or here. Scammers should always be held accountable, that's it, period.
1017  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is the biggest problem you think AI can fix in gambling on: March 23, 2023, 08:10:56 PM
The casino can use  AI as an advisor and entertainment for its players. For example, the AI can advise gamblers on game tactics or simply entertain them with conversation and jokes about the casino. The AI can also congratulate gamblers when they win and cheer them on when they lose.

I don't think we need AI to congratulate winners, or cheer for them. A simple script can do that as well.

What AI can do best is two things. One is calculating odds and house edge if that's not clearly visible for the player. It can also predict the average outcome of the next 100 games in the given casino. This can be good for players, especially newbies and bad for casino owners as it puts all cards on the table, so to speak.
The other thing is going through the internet to find all comments about the casino and its old exploits. If the casino was involved in scamming but made sure this doesn't come up in searches anymore, the AI can still find and validate it.
1018  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Please explain the math behind the DCA. I am confused. on: March 23, 2023, 07:56:46 PM

But of course, they don't do DCA themselves...

The costly myth of dollar-cost averaging

A Note on the Suboptimality of Dollar-Cost Averaging
http://gsbwww.uchicago.edu/fac/george.constantinides/JFQA_1979.pdf

DCA is worse than a buy and hold strategy or rebalancing your portfolio. If it is supposed to lower the risk, there is no measure of risk provided
Marketing stuff created by banks and brokers since people think it's safer and continue to inject money no matter what the market is doing.

It's not worse in the falling markets, but worse in rising markets. That's what the article from your first link proves. The author invested a lump sum and DCA into the S&P over a period of a few years where the market was rising, so obviously the lump sum investment gave him much greater returns. I don't get why these people try to prove a point by doing such obvious experiments.

OP, your DCA strategy didn't work well because you sold part of your investment at a random time. DCA is a great strat when you don't know where the bottom of the bear market will be, but you want to accumulate anyway. It doesn't work well when you keep buying and selling before the market turns around.

My DCA strategy focuses on buying during the bear market and selling the same way by slowly doing a reverse DCA into fiat money in a bull run.
How do I know when there's a bull run? Usually a good indicator is breaking through 50% of the ATH. I did that in 2018 and 2019 where bitcoin was below 10k. That was almost a whole year where I did my DCA. When we broke above 10k USD I begun to slowly DCA back into fiat, but when we fell below again and went to 4k in 2020 I was buying. Then again, when we broke above towards 20k I was DCAing back to fiat and then slowly all the way to the ATH in 2021. When we went below 40k USD I stopped selling and waited for the market to show me what to do. We went to 30k so I started buying again.
1019  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Do Kwon arrested on: March 23, 2023, 07:38:44 PM
He was actually hiding in Serbia most if not all of the time.
Why he appeared in Montenegro is not known now.
I suppose somebody ill advised him.

Serbia or Montenegro, he was standing out there like a sore thumb. There's not many Koreans in Serbia, just like there's probably even less of them in Montenegro. It's esy to spot a guy that looks foreign and the police has a list of fugitives so it's only a matter of time before the guy looking Korean and not speaking the local language is arrested.

As much as I don't like authority and government intervention, Do Kwon deserved to be put in jail. I hate scammers even more than governments. I hope he's stripped of all his money and made to work to pay up his victims.
