Another question, I don't know if deleting the merit posts will lead to deleting the merit as well?
No. You won't lose merits you have received for a post, even if the merited post is deleted.

Would that also result in a member's rank being lowered?
Your rank is a function of your activity and merit. Therefore, with deleting your posts, you may lose your rank due to losing activity.
1042  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Not your key not your wallet on: June 30, 2023, 04:26:18 PM
I meant to say, SPV wallets do provide us with the key phrase, but what if the services behind that any SPV wallets got attacked and started to misbehave which could lose you money even if you have the seed phrase.
If you use a trustworthy open-source wallet like electrum, that's not possible. In electrum, you sign your transactions locally. You are the only one who has access to the private keys and you never send them to third parties.

Take an example of the latest hack on Atomic Wallet which caused a loss of around $35 million dollars.
Atomicwallet is close-source and we don't know how it generates the keys. Whenever you use a close-source wallet like Atomicwallet, everything is possible.

You may lose your fund if there's a vulnerability in the wallet. If you use a trustworthy open-source wallet like electrum, you can be sure there is no vulnerability. Electrum being a SPV wallet doesn't mean it's not secure. It's open-source and there is nothing hidden from users.

You may lose your fund if your device gets compromised. If your device is compromised, it no longer matters you were using an open-source wallet or not and it no longer matters whether you were running a full node or not.
1043  Other / Meta / Re: Can activity back to 0? on: June 30, 2023, 03:40:55 PM
Activity works by taking the number of posts you have made within a 2-week period (capping at 14) and adding it to your current activity, which starts at 0. These values are stored in a database and updated with a script that runs periodically every other Wednesday.
This is not accurate. Activity is updated every hour.

Activity is updated every hour.

If your post count is smaller than 14 * number of two-week activity periods in which you have been active, you will see that your actvity will increase after every post you make.
If your actvity doesn't increase after every post you make, that's because your post count is equal or bigger than 14 * number of two-week activity periods in which you have been active and you have to wait until a new two-week actvity period starts and you make a new post in the new period.
1044  Other / Meta / Re: "The user whose profile you're trying to view does not exist" on: June 30, 2023, 12:43:31 PM
Whenever I log in using my desktop, I notice my account gets logged out from my smartphone browser.
If that's the case, you will never be able to have multiple active sessions. It's logging out which should affect your other devices, not logging in to your account.

If you do not check the Always stay logged in check box, you will be logged out of your account if it is logged out in another device.
You are logged out in all of your devices, once you log out in one of your devices, even if you have checked "Always stay logged in" option when logging in to your account.
1045  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Not your key not your wallet on: June 30, 2023, 09:17:21 AM
There is a difference between your Coinbase account and Coinbase wallet. If you read the email details, you can still use the wallet and not the account.
Right. OP can still use coinbase non-custodial wallet, but even their non-custodial wallet should be avoided. It's worth mentioning that coinbase non-custodial wallet is close-source and there is no way to know how the keys are generated and whether they have access to the keys or not.
1046  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Not your key not your wallet on: June 30, 2023, 07:12:29 AM
Even if you use any of the SPV wallets which provide you private keys and seed phrases, none wallet is yours until you create your own full node wallet.
This is wrong.
If you use a SPV wallet, you don't need to download the blockchain and get the required data a server that is running a full node. This has nothing to do with security of your keys.
As mentioned by Helena Yu, the purpose of running a full node is helping the network and having more privacy.

Take note that for generating a secure bitcoin private key and address, you don't need internet connection at all, let alone running a full node and downloading the blockchain.
1047  Other / Meta / Re: "The user whose profile you're trying to view does not exist" on: June 29, 2023, 10:05:14 PM
This happens because you logged into your account using another device or browser during that time when you closed your first bitcointalk tab.
Logging in to your account using another device doesn't affect your other sessions. I have done that many times and I am sure about that. That's logging out which affects your other sessions. If you log out in one device, you are automatically logged out in all other devices.
1048  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Sign a message through phone on: June 29, 2023, 08:23:59 PM
Is there any relation between closed source and open source wallet and only one of them is able to import the private keys or wallet with mnemonic phrases?
No.
Whether or not a wallet allow you to import a private key or seed phrase depends on how it has been designed by developers.

I am not sure what is wrong with that app but it's becoming very complicated over the time. Whenever I click on the New wallet addition it instantly creates new wallet, gives me new address and there is just no option at all where I can import external address.
To import a private key in mycelium, tap on 3 dot button at top right corner of the screen, select "Add account" and then tap on "Advanced & More".
After that, you will see options to import a single private key through copy-pasting or scanning a QR code.

It just don't show as the main one
That's what expected.
The address you want to sign message from has been already used and when you tap on "Receive" on bluewallet, it gives you another address. That's for protecting your privacy.
Take note that your HD wallet includes numerous addresses.
1049  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Sign a message through phone on: June 29, 2023, 07:58:57 PM
I couldn't find any possible guide to get your bitcoin private key out of your 12 words multi curreny string of trust wallet and then using it to sign a message [in a safe way] all through your phone.
As long as your mobile phone is online, there is no completely safe way. Any online device is always prone to hacking.

The issue will remain in getting the private key to import the wallet into bluewallet, or it can pull out the btc address out of the trustwallet 12 words string?
It's true that you can't export individual private keys from trustwallet, but you don't need to do so at all. The seed phrase generated by trustwallet is BIP39 and that's supported by bluewallet and many other wallets.

On a side note, I recommend you to avoid any close-source wallet like trustwallet.
1050  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Importance of Identifying Different Type of Bitcoin Address on: June 29, 2023, 06:26:59 PM
A simple question I need to know is how to get or where are these addresses gotten? Is there a single website or application where one can toggle these addresses?
There are many wallets that you can use for generating bitcoin addresses.
For example, you can use Electrum (which is one of the best SPV wallets) for generating legacy and bech32 addresses. You can also use Sparrow for generating all four types of addresses mentioned above.

1052  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Private key of BTC wallet on: June 29, 2023, 01:07:14 PM
Well in the meantime we should understand if the seed is 12 or 24.
OP is talking about a private key and that's different from a seed phrase.
Th most common format of a private key is WIF and that includes 51 or 52 characters. Even if the private key OP is trying to find is a mini-private key, it would include 22 or 30 characters and as mentioned by mocacinno and LoyceV, that can't be brute-forced.

please contact me
OP, anyone sending you a personal message to help you find your private key or asking you to send/him a personal message is a scammer.
1053  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ FIFA U-17 World Cup Discussion Thread ⚽ on: June 27, 2023, 01:51:57 PM
Well am not sure I have any favorite when its comes to football tournament and especially the youth competition like this one but am pretty sure my country has a strong team unlike the national team anytime it come to the youth team especially the under17 and they were also previous winner of the competition in 2015 and would love to see them perform well again of possible.
Since you said your country won the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, you should be from Nigeria.
Nigeria is one of the most successful teams in history of FIFA U-17 world cup with winning the title 4 times, but they haven't qualified for the 2023 tournament. As mentioned by OP, CAF qualified teams are Burkina Faso, Mali, Morocco and Senegal.
1054  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Minning on: June 27, 2023, 08:18:08 AM
Mining without any hardware? That's not possible at all.

Take note that anyone claiming that you can mine bitcoin without any need to hardware and just with going to a website, running an application, etc. is a scammer.
There are also services called cloud mining that claim that they sell you mining power. They are scam too.

Safepal is a custodial wallet? I did not check my desk yet but as far as I know I have one safepal hardware wallet. A hardware wallet is none custodial, same as Ledger, Trazor.
They have a software wallet too and that's probably what Agbe was talking about. Of course, he/she is wrong about safepal being a custodial wallet. Even their software wallet is non-custodial and gives users full control over they fund.

If it has coin control, then I think their manual will have some type of instructions. Those bloggers and crypto writers who review wallet they will have some kind of tutorial tll.
As far as I know, there is no coin control on Safepal software wallet.
1056  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ FIFA U-17 World Cup Discussion Thread ⚽ on: June 26, 2023, 09:43:07 PM
And still have 4 seats from Asia which is still being contested: Iran vs Yemen, Thailand vs South Korea, Japan vs Australia, and Saudi Arabia vs Uzbekistan,
Iran, South Korea, Japan and Uzbekistan advanced to semi-final of AFC U-17 asian cup and qualified for the final tournament of FIFA U-17 world cup.

BTW, It's quite a surprise to see the U-17 world cup taking place in Indonesia after the U-21 world cup was canceled in this country.
There is no FIFA U-21 world cup. We have U-17 and U-20 world cups.
1057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: "How best do I secure my investment on bitcoin as a newbie" on: June 26, 2023, 03:41:58 PM
I was thinking that Electrum is capable of storing any amount of Bitcoins but this one you are recommending another wallets is giving me more confusion. Please explain more on this topic.
Both bluewallet and electrum are good. mk4 suggesting bluewallet doesn't mean you can't use electrum.
You can use electrum or bluewallet for any amount of bitcoin, but note that any online device is always prone to hacking.
If you have a significant amount of bitcoin and you want your fund to be completely secure, you should create your wallet offline on an airgapped device or go for a good hardware wallet.
1058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you only have a receiving address pay send bitcoin? on: June 26, 2023, 03:12:46 PM
What wallet software you are using at?
OP already said that he/she is using Safepal.

From the look of things, Safepal is a close source wallet although they didn't state it in the site but from the articles I read and my own understanding, it is a custodian wallet.
You are right that Safepal is close-source, but it's not a custodial wallet. Safepal is non-custodial and gives users access to their private keys.

As Nwada001 said, if it is an Electrum Wallet, Op just need to clink on the particular transaction and copy the send address and resend back the money to the sender.
OP is asking how to spend a particular UTXO and it's required to use coin control for that.
1059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you only have a receiving address pay send bitcoin? on: June 26, 2023, 11:50:03 AM
If you are using non custodial wallets, they will have Coin Control feature which allows you to choose Inputs for your transactions.
Not all non-custodial wallets support coin control.
Safepal (which is being used by OP) is a non-custodial wallet, but it doesn't allow you to choose which UTXOs you want to use for your transaction.

To OP:
I recommend you to avoid safepal. In addition to not supporting coin control, it's close source and we don't know how secure it is.
1060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are the Predictions of Bitcoin Halving accurate? on: June 26, 2023, 11:14:15 AM
ok thanks for correcting yourself
You misunderstood that post.
I said binance academy has predicted the halving to be 293 days later while they say the average block time is 9.89 minutes. I even shared the link.
In the next part of my post, I said that with considering the average block time of 9.89 minutes, the halving should be 303 days later.

293 days was what displayed on binance academy and 303 days was what calculated by me.

I don't know how exactly they calculate the halving date. With the average block time of 9.89 minutes, the halving should be 303 days later.
