1121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Preparing no-bias interview with Bittrex - suggest questions! on: October 06, 2015, 01:38:18 AM
I suggest:

"How do you feel about the current status of crypto exchange sites? How do you feel your site is better in comparison to the upcoming release of gemini?"
1122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: CUSTOM Physical Coins on: October 06, 2015, 01:36:07 AM
Just curious, are you going to be making them and taking a risk out of your own pocket, or are you just making them for the buyer to have and they sell them? What's your going rate? etc. etc.

Why do I have to vote to get 'my guy' in office? I don't want to force 'my guy' on you and I don't want you to force your guy on me. Why do I have to get the approval of the collective to be free?

Because unfortunately that's how politics work.. If you don't campaign and, in your words, force some guy on another person, then there will be no majority that will vote for said politician that you believe in.

Hmm.. that's not really an argument. If I questioned the institution of slavery 150 years ago, would you say, "That's just how things are"?

I really wasn't trying to present an argument, just stating the truth about the mentality of people today.. But as Mikestang said:

Quote
This is the old way of thinking, the pre-internet way things worked.  We are at the forefront of a revolution where the masses will be able to govern themselves via the connectivity of the internet.  21st century politics is based on principles hundreds of years old, they don't apply any longer and it's up to us to start changing them.

This is a very good point and a valid argument.  There are already threads on here that are promoting to find a way to use the beauty of the blockchain to be able to do this... Things are definitely starting to change by more and more people waking up to the reality of the corruption of the government.  So in other words, the politicians who get elected now have some effect on how things go from here on out in the short term of things... People working for a cause like working to implement a new voting system and a new government and way of life is what's really going to change the future.
1124  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Gemini opens 08 Oct for trading!! on: October 06, 2015, 01:06:14 AM
Shame there's only half of the states in America can use it.

But the question becomes, would people who know about bitcoin in America really would want to use it??  I'm still on the fence about this whole thing, I would really not like to have some website that's indirectly controlled by the government to have all my personal information and know exactly how much I buy and what I buy it with... What good is that when bitcoin is supposed to be a "global cash unit"?  The benefits of bitcoin in the beginning was that it was to have the benefits of cash, without the inflation... now the whole thing is just becoming sketchy to me.
1125  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Peeple: The App From Hell? on: October 06, 2015, 01:02:32 AM

They only need 77 75 more people to sign. I think that's the fastest I've seen a petition fill up in my life. Smiley

Just signed... only 60 more to go "peeple"!! Wink
1126  Economy / Economics / Re: How too get rich on: October 06, 2015, 12:57:29 AM
I have a simple yet effective strategy that is proven because it worked for my grand father on my mother's side. Let's say in 1 month you make a bitcoin. Now save 10% of it and then pay your bills by the rest 90%. Your mind will always go on that extra 10% that you have kept aside to become rich to spend it, in that case you must tell yourself that you are in a recession and your company or government can only afford to pay you only this much. Now with that 10% you will invest them in a very very safe asset which gives an annual return of around 8-10%. And like this my friend you can end up becoming a millionaire.

Well I agree you should always be saving, but when you invest, it is not guaranteed profit.  You can definitely lose all that money you are investing.

So what are your thoughts on investing?  Safe asset?  Even with a safe asset you can still lose, and say you are making decent money, 10% of your salary is not that much, it depends on how old you are if will hit a million before you retire.  Lots of things to consider.

I mean, in this case, bitcoin in itself is technically an investment... so I would just think that he means that keeping the 10% of bitcoin would be in itself investing and the gradual rise in the price will then make said person a very wealthy man in the long run of things.
1127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Ship sinking!!!! on: October 05, 2015, 11:54:39 PM
those that hold ETH in their portfolios presently and are so dead set against it, heres my ETH wallet..

0x17aaa85093a49fb19bd35ea2c8e612868745c926

just ship them over to me and ill give them a good home.

Cheap trick, of course noone will send you ETH and this doesn't prove your point because noone will send ETH for free if they can get at least 1 satoshi for that.

of course they wont. im just trying to illustrate how silly some of the people here sound. no currency, crypto or otherwise, will EVER have a pure value gain. there will always be bear and bull trends in the marketplace. if they truly think ETH is a scam, then why did they invest? were they coerced into investing, of course not. we make our own decisions on what to invest in, and live with the consequences for good or ill. have i made boneheaded investments that i lost out on... definitely, and more than one. sometimes you have to take a loss, or wait it out and buy again at the nadir of the price curve, or hold it and hope that it eventually pays dividends. the ONLY time its worthwhile to bitch and moan is when an exchange screws you over and takes your entire portfolio and disappears. of course, due diligence in researching the exchange is your responsibility, just as it is researching the cryptocurrencies you think about investing in. and if you cant affford to lose the money you plan on investing, dont invest. nothing is certain. and to start the FUDapalooza less than two months since ethereum began trading, its the sign of an impatient investor. and theyll NEVER make that overnight millions if they cant innovate the system themselves and instead just hope to profit off of someone elses work. its easy to yell "scam! scam! SCAM!" when things dont go your way or when someone profits more than YOU do, its much harder to take personal responsibility for ones own choices.

and i DID offer to fed-ex a kitten in exchange for their unwanted ETH. kittens are cute, ethereum to them is ugly and vile, so its a wonderful trade off. (laughs) you despereately need to recharge your sarcasm-o-meters batteries.

It's funny that you think that all of us have invested there... You know there are some people who do there research before investing into a coin, and not just go in based on hype.

Meh.. I don't really see a positive future for the U.S. In general so I think moving in the near future would be beneficial to me.

Dollar is strong despite what people may think. It does not matter that China is the leading economy of the world now.
USD will be official currency of the stock markets and oil traders for years. Central bank of US and FRB won't let it fall so easily.

I agree that the private banks will do everything in their power to keep the dollar from crashing, including wars and the like... But the truth of the matter is, is that this currency, along with any fiat for that matter, can not last long with trillions of dollars in debt... It's simply not feasible. As for me, I'm looking into the best countries to move too in the next 5 years so I can get as far away as possible from this inevitable disaster.
1131  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Gemini opens 08 Oct for trading!! on: October 05, 2015, 10:07:43 PM
So I'm just curious, I know for a fact that they share your personal info like SS# and other things you have to provide them to the government which they can choose to do whatever with.. Doesn't this scare anyone? I know it scares me, and I never do anything illegal with my Bitcoin, just the fact that they have ready access to this makes it feel something shady is going to happen...
1132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if the Government loves cryptocurrencies To pay for their spies and ....... on: October 05, 2015, 10:02:03 PM
Idk if the government and, let's just say, the CIA would use Bitcoin though to use for issuing payments because of the pseudonymity Bitcoin possesses... I would think they would try to use a cryptonote platform, or simply have created their own private cryptocurrency that they only use with other shady businesses.. I would think that's a more likely thing to happen than them using Bitcoin.
1133  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin Exchange Gemini Approved for Launch in New York on: October 05, 2015, 09:16:41 PM
I just finished signing up. You first have to confirm you email, then your cell number. Then give your SS number, full name, mailing address, and bank account and routing number. They are making two micro deposits into my account to verify it's my bank account. Nothing about the sign up process was surprising to me, it's the first regulated exchange after all. I have a feeling this might push the price of Bitcoin up if it takes off.
Quite a lot of personal information if you ask me. You are no longer even pseudo anonymous when using bitcoin and using Gemini.
The fact that your information will be given to IRS if you reach some money threshold of sold bitcoin is not that assuring either.

Well if you're looking for a way to avoid taxes by using bitcoin, you shouldn't have qualms about dealing with less then trustworthy people, e.g. Cryptsy and friends. That means losing your btc once in a while.

This libertarian idea of being free of any form of regulation (and taxation) by using btc is just a pipe dream. You libertarians choose the wrong solution to your problem. If you don't trust your government then elect other people, and if there are no good people to elect in your two-party system, maybe you should think about backing a third party or starting a fourth.

Well, there are still a lot of people who support the libertarian ideals... these supporters, including me, have supported Ron and Rand Paul; but the media always do not take what they say seriously at all and they kind of mock them in a way.  I even helped organize some of the Rand Paul events in my area, but the truth is, is that even though you do everything to get your politician of choice to start making a change in the world, doesn't always mean that they are going to be elected... especially if they pose a real change to the status quo of Washington in general...

And to say that there is a realistic chance that backing a third or fourth party to win a nomination is a pretty optimistic view on politics... The fact is is that a majority of people stick to their political ideologies and their "party" no matter if they lock the nominee or not; has to do a lot with people pride in America.

I know, good points. It's not easy changing things. But it's doable, just look at history. It's admirable you actually helped organizing.

I also know from experience, I work for my local socialist party (not kidding here), and we managed to really change important things, like getting rid of bureaucracy in care for elderly trying to live at their own home for as long as possible, and care for young people in trouble. We let the professionals do their job and we implement stuff like "one family, one plan" instead of organising things around either the instutions or the money. In the end it works much better for all concerned (and is cheaper) and I'm really proud we actually did it, while elsewhere in my country care and wellfare are being broken down. Never thought it would've been possible a couple of years ago.

Anyhoo, an exchange like this might appeal to the masses a lot more then the afformentioned Cryptsy and friends.

Yeah, you're right that people might flock to here because of a false sense of security that their government is there to "protect them" from any "shady business" in the bitcoin field... but to be honest, the bitcoin scene is still a very "shady business", because many notable businesses don't accept them.  The feds would want to keep track of who purchased bitcoins from there and where they went too, to start trying to keep track of what's going on in the blockchain.

As for the political views, are you from the US? I would suspect you would be a very big Bernie fan, since he's the closest socialist to be in the Oval office, ever since, well, ever... Grin

Why don't we "blacklist" all fiat notes connected to crime, too? Roll Eyes

lol agree. and maybe your fiat is intervention of crime too, so beware Cheesy

If I'm not mistaken, I've read exactly on these forums that a quite high percentage of dollar bills have a trace of cocaine powder in them. I don't know if that's true evidence, but it just makes us remember that many fiat bills we hold might have went through the hands of criminals. Do we stop using them for legal purposes, just because of that? Obviously not...

That's not a reasonable example in terms of fiat... Some banks still have a system of where they have a booby trap implanted in "money bags" they give to robbers when they hand over large amounts of money to them.  When they open the bags, large amounts of red/blue ink spurts all over the notes and themselves which is essentially impossible to get off the money and very hard to wash off of you (the robber)... This represents what could happen with bitcoin, and why the fungibility issue is really a bigger issue than a lot of people on here would like to admit.

Yeaaaaa... see? I'm not giving my SS # to any bitcoin related enterprise... I hope nothing bad happens to you man, I will be monitoring this though; I just don't see a large majority of bitcoin users to go flocking here if you have to give such personal information out readily.

So I forgot that I "pre arranged" me to set up my account and got an email just now to setup my account... so I was looking through the user agreement terms, and it seems they give quite literally ALL your information to the government to keep track of you and your purchases and everything else.  They also do background checks and possibly everything else to invade your privacy... I don't like this, did any one else see this?
Did you honestly expect that they could have gotten such an approval in any other way? People need to stop living in fairy tales. Nobody is forcing you to use this exchange in particular

I didn't really read into it as much when I wanted to be notified when they launched.  I don't live in any fairy tales, when it comes to regarding my information.

If anyone else on here is curious to read, you can find it here:

https://exchange.gemini.com/user-agreement

As for now, I'm just going to hold back from signing up and see what other people say about the sign up process... I'm in no way going to be the "test group" in giving out personal information.

1140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 05, 2015, 04:52:53 PM
For Monero to become a very successful privacy-centric crypto currency, we need to promote it even more. This will result in mass adoption and with a hopefully increase in price. So far, I'm doing my best to spread the word of XMR and already told a couple of my friends about it. Most of them became very interested in it due to the fact that their transactions would be more private than in the Bitcoin block chain. They said they don't want NSA spying on their transactions, and that's why they'll be using Monero from now on. For the moment, I'm going to publicize XMR even more, until then I decide to make my own business which would only accept Bitcoins and Monero as payment methods. In the meantime, let's hope to see an increase in price probably in the next year. (or not?)  Cheesy

I know we've been trying to promote XMR to privacy oriented services; but has anyone tried to start promoting it to privacy oriented services for the US government, like lockheed martin for example? Maybe they would be interested in this because I think a large majority of their data was hacked by the Chinese and would probably be interested in transacting currency around and conducting business in XMR.
