1161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum on the rise: Sell or HODL? on: May 11, 2021, 05:38:18 PM
HODL. As i see it we can hit $5,000 in this summer. And i'm pretty sure it's not the ceiling for ETH.

Right now Ethereum is trading at >$4,000 per coin. Even if your prediction is true, it would mean less than 25% increase from the current levels. For my part, I would recommend selling some part of the holdings. Profit booking can be done, and if the user is worried about tax implications, then a part can be converted to Bitcoin (which is less volatile when compared to ETH) and can be cashed out next year. But be sure to check the tax liability, as some big tax increases are on the way. And this is especially important, in case you are residing in high-tax states such as California.
1162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I regret selling BTC for entering DeFi. HODLing is the way! on: May 11, 2021, 05:24:09 PM
I really don't understand why people get greedy and invest in various shitcoins and scams such as the DeFi. Bitcoin has given almost 10,000x returns during the last decade. Why the users still chose other projects, despite these huge historical returns? And also, Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency that was invented by Satoshi Nakamoto. All the other cryptocurrencies have plagiarized the original idea from Bitcoin, to varying degrees. Therefore it is clear that none of these projects will be able to overtake Bitcoin.
1163  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-26] The IRS is warning thousands of cryptocurrency holders to pay taxes on: May 11, 2021, 05:10:30 PM
As we've said before, it is only a matter of time before all centralized exchanges are reporting all their customers to the IRS (or your equivalent tax agency or government). I am very surprised it has taken them this long to start going after other exchanges after they served a similar summons to Coinbase in 2016. If you have completed KYC somewhere, then expect the IRS to get their hands on your details sooner or later.

Well.. I am not going to deny any of this. But let me ask you one question. Coinbase claims to have an userbase of 56 million verified users. A large majority may be from the United States. Then there are other exchanges such as Kraken and Bitstamp, which mostly service the American users. Do the IRS have the resources available to go after these 50-100 million users? If the users had used these exchanges for just one or two trades, then what is the possibility that the IRS will go after them?
1164  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 11, 2021, 04:56:41 PM
Dhoni may be a better captain when compared to Kohli, but I don't think that he is among the best. During the last year's IPL, he insisted on including players such as Kedar Jadhav in the squad, which resulted in many losses for the CSK, in matches which they could have otherwise won easily. He was one of the best 5 years back, but not now.
MSD not among the best? Lol. This guy smartly transformed the Cricket structure in India through his tactical brilliance. He was already proclaimed as a legend in the Cricketing world long back when India won the World Cup.

No captain is perfect. He is human. Their performance last year was abysmal indeed, but look how they bounced back this year. The CSK management could have replaced like him like what SRH did to Warner, but they chose to trust him and look what happened.

Check my post again. I was saying that he was one of the best five years back. But nowadays, his tactics are not that good. If he was that good, then why CSK was in such pathetic position during last year's IPL? And let's not forget the fact that Dhoni was directly responsible for some of CSK's losses last year. In many of the matches where CSK was chasing the targets, the combination of Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav slowed down the chase and made sure that CSK loses the match.
1165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We need save Ross Ulbritch now! on: May 11, 2021, 02:22:31 PM
IMO, Ross Ulbricht had one final chance of walking free again. And that was when Donald Trump was pardoning various prisoners after he lost his re-election bid. But despite a lot of lobbying, Trump refused to pardon him. And that was his last chance. Because none of the presidents in the future are likely to pardon him. There was a small chance of Trump doing that, since he is not a career politician. And as you know, the court system wants to impose the maximum possible punishment upon him.

In the future, Ross Ulbricht will be remembered as a martyr who sacrificed his freedom for the freedom of others. But he will die inside the prison, without any chance of a parole. It is foolish to expect any mercy from the system, when it didn't showed any of that to people like Aaron Swartz. The message from the swamp is loud and clear - if you want to go against the system, then you will be destroyed.

If they had finally synthesized a 100% immunity vaccine then probably immunity is a guarantee. To be honest, I wouldn't really want sports event to happen during a pandemic because I am sure that any gathering is going to be causing an increase in the infection which only makes the work of health workers much more difficult.

It is impossible to invent a vaccine that has 100% efficacy against the virus. It is possible against various bacteria, but impossible with virus. Sporting events are going on around the world and I don't see a reason why the Olympics should be postponed. They are planning to set up a bio-secure bubble, and even if there is any breach in the bubble (which is very unlikely), the vaccines should keep the athletes safe. So IMO, the Olympics should not be postponed further.
1167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm now all in BTC. All eggs in one basket! on: May 11, 2021, 01:43:08 PM
At this point the best strategy is to keep invested in Bitcoin. If you disagree, then tell me the name of a single altcoin which is not overpriced right now. We have shitcoins such as Doge and Ripple approaching the $100 billion market cap. Now let's not forget what happened after the alts got inflated to such levels in 2017. Many of them lost as much as 99% of their value in 2018. I am not going to say that it is going to repeat for sure, but those who are investing in these coins need to be cautious.
1168  Economy / Economics / Re: Will China take over the world with the Digital Yuan? on: May 11, 2021, 12:48:32 PM
Chinese Yuan is one of the most manipulated currencies in the world and there is no reason for anyone to suspect that the Digital Yuan will be any better. Within China, there will be some acceptability for this new CBDC, but why should anyone outside China use this currency? And there is zero chance that any of the Bitcoin users in China or in other countries would shift to Digital Yuan, since Bitcoin is much superior in comparison.
1169  Economy / Economics / Re: April 2021 set a new record India. How much effect in Indian economy? on: May 11, 2021, 12:40:08 PM
The lockdown started across the country due to last year's corona ban is still much looser than that. But in some states coronary heart disease is on the rise  they have taken some drastic steps it has had an impact on the economy about 3.7 lakh corona cases have been reported in the country more than three and a half thousand people have died lockdown has started somewhere locally to avoid infection. A number of retailers and wholesalers have been hit hard causing the economy to decline further many people have become unemployed due to the lockdown.

Shop owners are negatively impacted, as most of the people now prefer to purchase various items from online retailers. No one really want to risk infection by going to shops and purchase items on their own. BTW, uber-rich Indians have now managed to get out of India and tens of thousands of them are currently stationed in countries such as the UAE and Maldives. Within India, the tourist sector is essentially dead. And the situation is likely to remain as such for the remainder of this year.
1170  Economy / Economics / Re: Could Bitcoin Smash Socialism in Venezuela? on: May 10, 2021, 05:23:19 PM
I have not considered Colombia or Guyana because of some reasons. Firstly, I dont know anyone in those countries and I am afraid we have bad relations with Guyana and Colombia, many frictions.

We have a dispute with Guyana for a part of territory and Colombians and Venezuelans have some historical differences which are more strong nowadays due to policies of my government and theirs.

Well.. you posted that you wanted to migrate to another country (that's what I understood). I thought that Colombia was a good option, since millions of Venezuelans have already moved to that country. Also, there seems to be an economic recovery, ever since the civil war ended. Other options that can be considered are Brazil, Argentina or even Chile. I believe that it is relatively easy for Venezuelan citizens to migrate to these countries.
1171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Participants Only] [IPL 2021] Vote result on: May 10, 2021, 05:11:24 PM
They probably did get into a fight since we all know about Warner when he gets pissed and ousting him as the SRH captain could have contributed. However, they denied it for obvious reasons.

Officially they both have denied that there was any such fight between them in any Maldives Bar. Talking about the payments for players. I think as long as the franchises are in profit( Which they should be in), they won't really make the players sad. Moreover, after risking the lives of the player in this deadly pandemic they really want to give them the compensation to shut up.

I know that Warner was not really happy about his firing. And he may have felt even more bitter, when he learnt that Kane Williamson has been appointed as the new captain. Warner had refused to include Williamson in the playing XI, during the first few matches.

BTW, I agree with teosanru. The players took a huge risk in participating in this tournament despite the ongoing pandemic. They deserve the full payment. And it's not just the players. Even the non-playing staff and the officials need to be compensated properly. Umpire Nitin Menon had to leave the tournament in between, when his family members tested positive.
1172  Economy / Economics / Re: April 2021 set a new record India. How much effect in Indian economy? on: May 10, 2021, 02:28:48 PM
This is not "exclusively Indian" behavior, it is very common for many. The only question is probably in the scale and depth of the denial of the rules. I am most worried about the behavior of certain groups - they are not some kind of fools, but rather organized, large groups of people:
- parishioners of churches. Especially in our country they try to behave "against logic" - the clergy and parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church. In the midst of the epidemic, they urged parishioners to gather as often as possible in their church, to ignore the rules of protection, explaining the appearance of Covid as punishment for homosexuality, sin, moral degradation, alienation or rejection from their church. Rights very soon representatives of their church began to die en masse from the very same Covid, which caused a huge amount of "black humor".
The second part - these are political forces, usually socialist or near communist currents, which gathered the people "in spite of the imperialists". The arguments were similar to those of the clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church. The results are identical.
Moreover, if the latter were sometimes forced by the police to stop mass events, then it is difficult to influence the church in our country - it is separated from the state, and in fact it is a "country within a country." The results of all this were not long in coming - after 1-2 months they received a new outbreak of the incidence

Being an Indian resident, I would like to summarize what is going on here:

1. Religious institutions are still open and people can be seen in temples, churches and mosques without any sort of social distancing
2. There is widespread propaganda among the Muslim community that taking the vaccine for COVID 19 will make the recipients impotent. And this has resulted in a very low vaccine intake among the Indian Muslims.
3. The opposition is using the pandemic to target the government, with scant regard for people's lives. On one hand, they are using Whatsapp and Facebook to spread fake propaganda such as organ stealing is going on in hospitals and on the other hand they are attacking the government for low vaccination
4. Bureaucracy and red tape is costing thousands of lives in India. Sputnik V vaccine applied for license more than two months back, and the government hasn't yet made it available in the hospitals.
5. And finally, despite the lockdown measures a lot of people are still roaming around spreading the virus.
1173  Economy / Economics / Re: The Biden Tax and Spend Plan & The Big Cycle Swing on: May 10, 2021, 02:15:35 PM
Biden’s Tax Plan is more likely political stuff, IMO.
Like yes, Biden is a democrat with massive Public Relations and this plan would make him look like a good person to the fools.

However, I don’t really like the idea of punishing the big businesses, making them pay more taxes, and then so on, once a business made something illegal to avoid taxes, they would penalize it more like slaves.

These businesses also strive and make decisions that most of the employees couldn’t handle.  That’s why their job and what they do are being rewarded by their earnings, but that is not always the case.  Well, I just wanna say good luck to the U.S Economy, I think they are trying to make the people even and there will be a time that no one would be doing business anymore and stay as employees instead.

Couldn't put it any better. Biden won the elections by painting himself as a moderate, and with some help from the COVID 19 pandemic. But his policies resembles more like radical left, rather than center left. The 6 trillion USD spending plan is going to destroy the American economy. Democrats always love to reward the unproductive population in the form of welfare payments and to punish the successful people, but this time they are pushing too hard. The crazy idea to tax capital gains at 55% will result in destruction of the stock market, but the decision to rise corporate tax is going to do the maximum overall damage.
1174  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 10, 2021, 12:58:21 PM
To Zimbabwe's credit, they managed to stretch it to the 4th day. Apart from a half century by Regis Chakabva and a 3-wicket haul by Blessing Muzarabani, there was nothing in this match for Zimbabwe. Until they get ready for the test matches, they should refrain from staging matches against strong teams such as Pakistan. First they should play some 4-day matches against Ireland, Afghanistan or some of the other associate nations. If they perform well, they can play against test nations.
Well they did manage to score highest total by the end of the series. Before 2nd inning of the last match Zimbabwe scorecard looked like this 176,134, 132. Give some credit to them that they crossed the 200 mark.

LOL.. in that regard, yes.. we need to appreciate Zimbabwe. Perhaps the ICC can change rules to make the matches more competitive. Other teams should be given only one innings per test match, while Zimbabwe should be allowed to bat for two innings. But the problem is that even then there is no guarantee that the matches will be competitive. The total Pakistan scored in their first innings was higher than the combined total Zimbabwe made in two of their innings.
1175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 10, 2021, 12:44:27 PM
I will choose Dhoni as a captain in any situation because he always finds a way to win matches and in the last season they had the worst team and yet the team was able to lift themselves in the later part of the tournament after the knockout stage defeating top teams and Mumbai is always a much better team and anyone can become the best captain with a good win percentage with a team like Mumbai who has dominating bowlers and a blend of local talents who could take on any bowler.

But then again, I have to say that he is miles ahead of Kohli. Nowadays Kohli seems to be blind and unable of rational thinking due to arrogance.

Same here. There was a time when almost 50% of my portfolio was made up of altcoins and tokens. But right now, it is 95% made of Bitcoin. I made the decision in 2018, when the altcoin bubble burst. I realized that without any real life usage, raw hype alone can't guarantee the higher price for altcoins. Look at alts such as Dogecoin and Ripple. They have managed to achieve valuations of $50 billion or $100 billion, without any real life usage. I am against investing in such coins.

Samson is a very good player, but the problem is that he can't maintain the continuity of his performance. If he performs brilliantly in one match, he will be out for very few runs in the next few matches. I think KL Rahul and Rishab pant is a more stable player than Samson.

At this point there is no person more suitable to the role of wicketkeeper batsman than Rishabh Pant. He has performed exceptionally in international cricket, and again in the IPL. KL Rahul should have been the second choice and I don't know how Samson managed to get selected.

BTW, there is confirmation from Sourav Ganguly that the remainder of the IPL can't be staged in India. But at this point, he is refusing to give his opinion on the future of the T20 World Cup, and about which country would possibly host both the T20 World Cup and the remainder of the IPL.

The thing is we are seeing a lot more situations about more government wanted in many nations (except the ones that already have dictator like characters at the top) because people do not want to live in a liberal world where there are very few regulations. Why? Because we have seen the results of that, what do you expect to do in USA when they can't provide their healthcare and their lockdown, and can't pay rents, can't go outside, many horrible stuff during the last one year, and what if there is zero government during that?

It would have been "death to poor, heaven to rich" situation which kind of already happened with a few exceptions , both parties both presidents and both senates all agreed on a stimulus check 3 times total, that is at least "leftist" but republicans agreed that was needed and Trump gave it as well, so basically when the time comes, everyone does what they say "leftist" because sometimes governments are very much needed.

There is a huge difference between the Biden spending plan and Trump spending plan. Trump spent the money carefully and made sure that no state or city is discriminated. On the other hand, more than half of Biden's $6 trillion spending plan is earmarked for failed cities and various unions, which will be stolen in all probability (similar to what happened earlier). I don't understand the point in providing additional funding for failed inner cities, because they don't have the proper mechanism to spend the funds they receive. There is no accountability and most of those funds will end up with various politicians.

Abid Ali was on 215. He was almost hundred runs away from scoring a triple century. I don't understand the argument here. How can you guys say that he was denied of a triple century? Are you 100% sure that he could have scored another 85 runs without getting dismissed? Pakistan had just two wickets remaining and the Zimbabwe bowlers could have taken those two within a couple of overs. The declaration came after Nauman Ali was dismissed. The no.10 and no.11 batsmen were Shaheen Shah Afridi and Tabish Khan, who are genuine tail enders. I fully agree with Babar Azam's decision to declare the innings. Abid had zero chance of getting a triple century.
