Hi Barntech,

Quote
To calculate BTC required: Multiply the number of chips desired by $25 (cost=chips*US$25) to arrive at the $US dollar amount. Then times this amount but the current exchange rate (currently 1BTC = US$104).

I want to order chips with BTC.  Today MTgox exchange rate is $120/btc.  So, to calculate btc amount which exchange rate should I use ?

Regards

libertybuck

Hey.

Yes, sorry, i've been busy and haven't updated. Go with US $120 for the exchange rate. I'll go change that now.

Cheers

Barntech
Have you considered opening up a merchant account on bitpay.com? I opened one recently and it's reasonably painless. Does on the spot BTC/USD calc and can pay you automatically in AUD.

There is a Bitfury chip based Australian project in the group buy section you may not have read about because is a slightly unusual spot for a new hardware thread. See the above link.

Here is a short summary.

Introducing the DrillBit System

An affordable and expandable bitcoin mining system.

The DrillBit system is the most versatile Bitcoin mining system available. It will expand to suit your needs. You can start up with a small mining rig, similar to many entry level rigs on the market, or you can start bigger. As you decide to expand your hashing capabilities, the DrillBit system will expand to suit your requirements, easily and simply.

The basic module of the DrillBit system is a single DrillBit board; an 8 BITFURY ASIC card. With the basic hashrate of approximately 21.6 GH per card (based on BITFURY's published spec of 2.7Gh/s per ASIC), the board plugs into a standard USB socket. The power can be supplied by a normal ATX power supply. If you are only running a single board, it may also be powered from a spare disc drive connector, allowing you to install it out of sight, inside your computer, should you wish to. You can be hashing all the time, with no extra boxes to stash, no cords to trip over and accidentally unplug.

The ASIC board has 3 ports built in. The top port on the first board takes a data distribution board - like the FPGA board in the Avalon miner, only much, much simpler. It comes included with the initial purchase of a DrillBit board so you are ready to start mining as soon as you get it, nothing more required. But when you want to add more hashing power, this is where the DrillBit system really shows its advantages over other systems. If you want to double your hashrate to 43.2GH, just get another ASIC card and plug it into the bottom port of the first card. Its that simple. No big strings of USB hubs, no messy cables or setup changes. The data distribution card automatically registers the extra ASIC card and operates accordingly. Up to 4 cards can be stacked in this way. Simple, convenient, efficient. Just add more processing power when you want to. You can then be running at 86.4GH quite easily, expanded up from your initial investment of 21.6GH. Nothing to resell, nothing going unused.

If you wish to expand beyond 4 DrillBit boards to achieve even higher hashrates, the DrillBit system can accomodate this also with the backplane system. The backplane is a large distribution board that the ASIC cards plug into individually. So if you want to run much higher hashrates, you can get a backplane and fill it with ASIC cards as you decide to buy them.. The same principle applies. Simple and efficient. You just plug in extra cards, and the system configures to the extra power. All versions of the system run conveniently from a standard ATX power supply, so it is easy to operate. You could also just run a number of card stacks from a USB hub, in much the same way as other systems offer, if you so desire. Or you could run multiple backplane systems from the same setup. With 16 cards in a backplane, you will have up to 345.6GH/s of hashing power.

Thats more than any other single miner on the market at this time. But the beauty of the DrillBit system is that you don't have to outlay all that cash immediately. You can get started on a smaller system of whatever size you like, and build as you are ready.

** A note on the hashing power of BITFURY chips. The chips have been demonstrated to have performance up to 2.7 Gh/s. This is what you can get if you overclock and run them at very high temperatures. The sweetspot for efficiency of W/Gh is more somewhere around 2 GH/s. We will have more info on this once we get more testing done.

The Drillbit board is designed with overclocking capabilities built in, so you will have control over how hard you run the chips. We will provide specs for recommended stable running rate, but in the end if you want to squeeze every last hash out it it, you will be able to so.

We will also be offering a thumbdrive version of the Drillbit System comprised of 1 chip, giving you up to 2.7 Gh/s. These will be nice and cheap. Pricing soon.

The DrillBit system is designed by Dan Stocks, an electronics phd with 30+ years in electronic design, highly experienced PCB designer, currently doing it as a full time job for a well known electronics manufacturing company.

The good thing is that there are other Sha 256 currencies out there and then can be converted into other currencies. So even if mining Bitcoin becomes impossible for small timers, there will be options.

I am actually mining ZET a new SHA256 coin atm. It's not worth much but might as well stock up whilst the block rewards are at their highest.

1365  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] - GROUP BUY of BITFURY Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: August 20, 2013, 12:57:14 AM
My only concern is the what the diff will be by the time i get my boards. However that being said it'll still be better then the current usb's that are out right now. Roll Eyes
The diff will be high, the BTC price hasn't risen to reflect this, many miners sell below their mining cost because they are either desperate or too slack to work out their true cost. The idea is mine but don't sell until the price is right.

Anyone know if Cryptsy are going to add ZET in the near future?

1368  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 19, 2013, 11:57:47 PM
The only people I know that have placed orders for a Monarch so far, are the ones that intend to sell their place in the queue for a profit. I guess that's better ROI than actually mining. Sounds like cryptobounty!

1369  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] - GROUP BUY of BITFURY Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: August 19, 2013, 11:36:21 PM
I'm hoping it will be the right size that I can fit it in a hard drive bay with a fan blowing over it, overclocked and tidy  Smiley
If you are going to the trouble of overclocking, then you would make a proper enclosure for it, not a 3.5" drive bay.

1370  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 19, 2013, 11:32:20 PM
What i dont get is why none of you guys have a problem with a 600 gh device. If they do manage to produce a blade with that amount of computing power seems like it would be easy to gain control of the network. I dont like all that processing power in one place.

I am just a lowly trader around here and dont have much interest in the tech side of things (thought I do have 15 gpus mining LTC.) , but shit seems way to centralized for my liking.
600GH/s is not much, you are out of touch with the growth rate that's all.

1371  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Announces 600GH/s 28nm PCIe Mining Card on: August 19, 2013, 11:31:16 PM

You could order from KnC and get your unit in October and have it fully paid off by December or you could pay half as much and sit around for 6 months and get a monarch at a point in time where you make 5% of it's purchase cost per month.

Has KNC been able to show a prototype device yet?
Of course not, they don't their chips from the fab until Sept. They only did tape out in July.
1372  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: August 19, 2013, 08:18:00 PM
hmm just noticed this on the KNC site. is it new or am i just late to the party. lol

Saw that a bit ago. I'm still debating if it's computer rendered, or the actual chip.
Of course it's a rendering, just read the numbers on it, they are all placeholders. If the chips had arrived you can bet they would proudly tell the world.
1373  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] - GROUP BUY of BITFURY Chips + DRILLBIT SYSTEM mining assembly on: August 19, 2013, 05:16:04 AM
Is there a working prototype yet? If so, do you have a video of it hashing?
Read the first post.
1374  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: August 19, 2013, 02:55:39 AM
I'm still waiting for October to sell out, so I could buy a November unit at a cheaper price.
You realize that an extra month of mining is worth more than the price difference?
1375  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 19, 2013, 02:51:00 AM
You can rest assured that BFL wont be shipping Monarch in November, it's unlikely they will even have a working prototype by then based on their track record and the reality of getting tape out -> wafers ->bumping ->chip packaging done by then.

What the fuck happened to you erk ? You went from fervent BFL supporter and apologist to detractor now ?

Jesus Christ. I think I just saw a pig fly by my window.
Not at all, I don't think BFL is a scam like many others do, I still have BFL gear on order. I am commenting on the realities of BFL getting the Monarch out the door by Nov/Dec 2013, I honestly don't think they can do it, happy to be proven wrong. In 2014 the market price for ASICs is going to be well below $10 per GH/s so if you are sitting on an order for months and months you need to factor that into your plans.

When BFL announced their stuff last year, there was no competition, it was pre-order heaven, now the game has changed with several ASIC chip manufactures to choose from, compare that to the two GPU manufactures you can actually mine with, and you can see there is a smorgasbord of ASICs coming within the next couple of months. I think the winners will carry stock on hand like the GPU manufactures do, the loosers will be the ones that depend on pre-order revenue. When you have stock on hand, you can cut deals, do specials, you have flexibility.

1376  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 19, 2013, 02:30:45 AM

Ok, so why is KNC your favorite?

It's odd they want like $8,000 for a 400GH pre-order and it doesn't even have a PSU.  I know they're in Europe and PSU's are heavy but still.  At that money a unit should be turn-key.  Just saying and especially now that BFL is selling a 600GH for $4995 and I have a strong feeling Cointerra will beat that.

There's no room for almost good enough anymore.   If you read up in Cointerra's management and design team, they're world-class.  I don't see a team like that anywhere - not even BFL and BFL is the biggest and has the biggest budget.  So my money is on Cointerra and I'd also bet Cointerra is not gonna ban CC and/or PayPal, that's always a big red flag.
KNCminer is first gen at 28nm, they have mask costs to pay up front. They have already stated that the new price of for the Jupiter 400GH/s unit for November delivery is $5,000. You can rest assured that BFL wont be shipping Monarch in November, it's unlikely they will even have a working prototype by then based on their track record and the reality of getting tape out -> wafers ->bumping ->chip packaging done by then.

1377  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 19, 2013, 02:20:41 AM
There a lot of nice ASICS shops popping up.  No more monopoly for BFL, no wonder they leashed and muzzled Josh.  They just may treat their customers like humans now.

So my question is:  I'm not a tech guy, I'm an economist guy - so out of all these new ASIC outfits which one is the best? I realize some don't have products yet but what's your gut feeling?

For example my feeling is that Cointerra will beat and exceed everyone, including BFL, KNC, FrostBit, HashFast, ASICminer, Bitfurry, etc, on every level but especially professionalism and treating the customer right and the latter, for me, is worth paying a premium for but I have a feeling Cointerra will beat on price as well.

So this is great for consumers - no more paying a double jacked up price by BFL for a product you will not see until the difficulty renders it useless.  BFL should at least let little single and Jalapeņo owners who haven't received their units yet upgrade by additing additional chips to their units.  And I mean besides the current 2GH and 5GH upgrade. A jalapeņo and especially a little single can take quite a few more chips - I'd rather pay extra and get some extra hashing power than get a worthless paper weight.

I hope BFL saves some face and helps out their loyal customers who haven't yet cancelled their orders.  There's lots of us who used PayPal and we could easily cancel but we haven't.  I'm willing to wait but don't give me a unit which can't even make positive ROI, find a win win solution which doesn't involve more waiting.  That would go a long way with existing customers in a world which will soon be overcrowded with ASICS manufacturers.
Cointerra is just another pre-order with unknown delivery. Nothing to see here.

The market needs manufactures with stock on hand, not more pre-order schemes.

1378  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: August 18, 2013, 10:40:54 PM
^ LOL

Totally burst out loud on that, I needed that.

Yeah it's bulky.. to dissipate heat. I guess BFL expects us to cook our breakfast on their cards to help dissipate heat. Because the fan won't do it.
Looks quite similar to a HD 7970 fan which will do over 300watts! Of its a problem then they can use the case from a hd 7990 which will do twice that.
1379  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Why is there even polls about if BFL is a scam or not? on: August 18, 2013, 10:38:33 PM
I'm not clear on why people say that BFL is a scam. I guess their definition of "scam" is different from mine, or perhaps I am missing something.

To me, a scam would be taking pre-orders without ever intending to ship anything. BFL is shipping miners, right? So, what is the scam?

I don't think the fact that they are shipping 8 months late is a scam, either. I doubt they intended for the delay to be this long. Without intention, how can there be fraud? No fraud, no scam.

I sympathize with the people that pre-ordered, but this is clearly a case of BFL incompetence, and not a scam.

It is Ponzi scheme because without getting more money with preorders they will be unable to ship all existing orders.

And you know this how? Do you have some inside info on BFL finanacials? I just assume BFL are simply greedy until proven otherwise.
1380  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 18, 2013, 09:38:08 PM
No credit card option for payment... only BTC and wire x-fer. That's a non starter for me.
Perhaps Paypal is mad at them for all the refunds?
