1381  Other / Politics & Society / Getting the Confederate Flag out of State Capitol Buildings on: June 23, 2015, 03:35:34 PM
http://news.yahoo.com/lawmakers-changing-tone-flag-follows-15-years-refusal-083420119.html

In the wake of the shootings in SC, there's a reinvigorated push to get the confederate flag removed from the statehouse.

For years, South Carolina lawmakers refused to revisit the Confederate flag on Statehouse grounds, saying the law that took it off the dome was a bipartisan compromise, and renewing the debate would unnecessarily expose divisive wounds.

But opinions changed within five days of the massacre of nine people at a historic black church in Charleston, as a growing tide of Republicans joined the call to remove the battle flag from a Confederate monument in front of the Statehouse and put it in a museum.

On Monday, Gov. Nikki Haley did what a previous Republican governor found to be political suicide. Herself a Republican, she not only called for the flag's removal but pledged to call legislators back to Columbia if they don't deal with it in a special session in the next few weeks. Just hours before they return to work Tuesday, a rally to bring the flag down will be held outside the Statehouse.
1382  Economy / Economics / Re: How to teach kids about Bitcoin? on: June 23, 2015, 03:26:04 PM
Perhaps item 3) is teaching kids about the gambling element and why it's dangerous. Helping a kid realize the swings and how quickly money can vanish could help them a great deal as they grow to have their own money and get lured into the appeal of earning money fast.
1383  Economy / Economics / Re: How to teach kids about Bitcoin? on: June 23, 2015, 01:46:20 PM
Interesting so the learning can be twofold:

1) The technology side, the puzzle that is part of the mining process, and

2) The financial implications, the money management element.

Good stuff, any other ideas?
1384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: (Parody?) Elmer FUD: You MUST read this if you are holding any Bitcoins!!! on: June 23, 2015, 01:45:00 PM
Parody or not, it's a good discussion to have.

This reality you propose is just more reason to keep involvement in Bitcoin in bitcoin. As the market grows fiat becomes less relevant once one has some bitcoin to use for their purchases.

Think of this example, If you sold your car last year for cash did you report that sale on your income tax return? I didn't think so...
1385  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: State law makes it difficult to use Bitcoin in Wyoming? on: June 23, 2015, 07:11:45 AM
State law makes it difficult to be a Coinbase customer while living in Wyoming, Bitcoin works just fine.

Read the article again, "it make it almost impossible to use Bitcoin for a transaction from Wyoming, which could be a problem because the currency is on the rise." This sounds pretty damning to using Bitcoin at all, for transactions at least! Hodling seems to still be OK though.
1386  Economy / Economics / How to teach kids about Bitcoin? on: June 23, 2015, 07:07:49 AM
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/9-ways-kids-smarter-money-100050132.html

This article doesn't talk about bitcoin but it got me thinking how to get kinds interested in bitcoin within the context of appropriate money management lessons. Think of we could teach kinds about it. The growth, the adoption, the inflation and retraction. The allure of the "internet money".

...what other ideas come to mind?
1387  Economy / Economics / Re: DO NOT pay off your student loans!! Sub-prime student loan bail-out is here! on: June 23, 2015, 07:04:53 AM
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/courts-rule-disabled-woman-living-120003566.html

Here's a reason to pay your student loans (in the US at least.) No one can escape the obligation, no matter how bad things get. If you stop paying the government will find a way to get it from you...unless of course you were the victim of some fraud.

Pay your debt people!
1388  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Write a letter, change business... on: June 23, 2015, 06:58:27 AM
Call me cynical, but such letters go straight to the trash can (or recycle bin).
Businesses change when it is in their interest to do so.

And therefore, petitions. If you have a valid motive, an important concern, a lot of people will agree with you because if course they feel the same way about it. Unity is strength, and if a said 10k people sign your petition, the god damn company has to fucking listen.

What support do you have that petitions get paid attention to more than active and direct communication/requests of political leaders? Petitions can be tossed in the trash can just as easily, no?
1389  Economy / Economics / Re: Americans are getting stronger. Twenty years ago, ... on: June 23, 2015, 06:54:56 AM
What propaganda...you all ignore the fact that inflation happens in every country in the world. It's not an American ailment, it's an ailment of progress of greater demand of prosperity...the more people that can afford something for a $1, the more the business will want to raise the price to $2.
1390  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or gold? on: June 23, 2015, 06:48:02 AM
Is there a lot of news about how gold isn't as scarce as we all believe? That gold mining firms control supply to keep the price stable and high and to keep jewelry wholesalers buying? I think I'd choose bitcoin, but obviously it's easy to take more risk when we're talking hypothetical situations.
1391  Economy / Economics / Re: Making Bitcoin safer for the mainstream...could be catalyst for growth! on: June 23, 2015, 06:46:06 AM
Yeah, I guess for this to be viable for growth it would need to have significant and unwavering controls over where the monitoring begins and ends (which may even be impossible).

I like the idea of banks and business having more interest in the Project, but not at the expense of the anonymity that comes with this currency...like cash. Although cash isn't completely anonymous because you're tracked when you withdraw cash, which is nearly the only way to get cash aside from selling goods.

There is no escape irrespective of anyone keep the cash or bitcoin or any currencies in the world, there would be always many sort of risk behind those people who has money and wealth. This is the same epic happening centuries ago, and there is no solutions for this even in future. The best way is to protect ourselves by our own way.

Interesting point, so do you believe it's good that services are being made available for banks and companies to secure themselves in tracking bitcoin transactions because the onus is on the user to protect themself more so than the for protection of anonymity to be granted by the Bitcoin Project?
1392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank Of Hungary – Issued Warning For Crypto Currencies on: June 23, 2015, 06:43:33 AM
Any formal news of Bitcoin is good press. It's fair that people or organizations fear it before they praise it.
1393  Economy / Economics / Re: A currency or investment? on: June 23, 2015, 06:32:50 AM
Why can't it be both? Gold is both. Silver is both. Cash is both, to an extent.

I vote for both, I think it needs to be.
1394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: FUD::Bitcoin Executive Says 21 Million Cap Increase Inevitable::FUD on: June 23, 2015, 06:30:26 AM
It would be similar to a stock split. Twice as many coins are available and each coin gets halved in price. It's not an awful idea if the growth of the currency was stagnated due to the price per coin. The difference is that bitcoin is nearly infinitely fractional..to what 8 decimal places, right? Down to the satoshi?

I don't think it would ever by needed (but those could be considered "famous last words").
1395  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Place to invest on: June 23, 2015, 06:26:42 AM
Make sure you don't confuse invest with gamble. Most of the options on this forum are gambling, not investing. Another type of "investment" promises daily interest. This sounds great but it's physically impossible. No investment in the world currently place 1% per day, these are ponzi schemes and when the person running the campaign decides to shut it down whoever still has money on the books will lose.

Good luck to you though. Don't lose it all in one place and I hope you're wildly successful.

1397  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NY Prison Escapees Still On The Run: DNA Found At Campground on: June 23, 2015, 06:18:12 AM
So am I!

I recall listening to news reports a few days (within a week) after it happening with these "experts" saying "oh, they'll be caught within 72 hours, i'm sure of it." Such bullshit statements! The media sucks some times, they'll put anyone on TV who can say anything and pass it off as some sort of fact.

The one thing that makes following this story interesting is that no one has been hurt yet in the wake of the escape. As long as no one gets hurt I'll be entertained by their life on the run...maybe they'll end up in Zihuatanejo.
1398  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A disaster foretold — and ignored on: June 23, 2015, 06:15:30 AM
Interesting historic article, kind of like people saying "who would ever need a computer at home". But I'm missing the point. What could any government have done to make the internet, this incredibly open and unregulated infrastructure, more secure? What made these hackers think that the US Government could secure the internet?

That's like the US Navy securing the world's oceans or the US Airforce controlling the world's skies...it's ridiculous and completely beyond the bounds of jurisdiction. Further, wouldn't hackers be able to evolve beyond any security that was put in place?
