You then use it to buy something you need to run your practice that is sold on the Internet. But how do you account for the transaction for income tax purposes? That's the part I don't understand and so lawyers will be pretty hesitant to venture into using bitcoin. |

Here in Australia - looks like you have to get it from DFAT Apostilles -$60 per Apostille on a single sided document (note, no additional fee is charged for any initialling associated within the relevant document)
So.. .$60 per document?? .. and because of that silly “Notarization for the purpose of verifying on MtGox.com” Each such apostille can presumably only be used for this one purpose.. Ouch. |

bitcoin prices will *EXPLODE*. (it did explode - just not the way he meant!)
Not that I really think what he says is that important - but it'd be nice to think this anti-rally is partly punishment for him being an over-the-top bimbo-bull.

I was totally ignorant of this phenomenon until I googled it after the show, and the discovery makes me sympathize with Alicia when she tells Zach, “This stuff makes me feel so dated.” Executive producers Robert and Michelle King must have anticipated this response from their audience, because the episode does, in fact, play rather like “Bitcoin for Dummies.” One of the things I like about “The Good Wife” is how it educates viewers about specific legal or political issues, but even still this episode veers too far into didacticism for my taste. An interesting observation from this reviewer.. --I wonder why the writers didn’t bother to come up with a fake name for “Bitcoin,” the way they’ve done with “FaceBranch”and “FactSwim” in the past.
Presumably this is because there is no 'bitcoin' corporation to sue the producers  |

I'm very skeptical as well. Amazon accepting Bitcoin would be huge, so huge it would steamroll the whole Bitcoin economy. Amazon must know that, if they know about Bitcoin. It's too soon.
It's not too soon for bitcoin, but Amazon may or may not be cautiously considering such a move. Bitcoin is ready for such events, but the inclusion by Amazon or any other major player is going to introduce some major price movements again; because it won't just be one. If Amazon does it, there are many others who will do it also in short order. And then we'll all be millionaire equivalents. I sometimes wish Satoshi had set the limit to something like 21K instead of 21M - that way 'bitcoinaire' might one day have simultaneously referred to someone holding an entire bitcoin or more and as being of great wealth. I'm not *quite* bullish enough to hope that this century, under a 21M limit, 'bitcoinaire' could be a 'millionaire equivalent' in todays dollars  |

use something like: 'strings -n 20 blk0001.dat' to see it.
Also this: "FFS Luke-Jr leave the blockchain alone!" Well yeah.. the Len Sassaman tribute and the Good Wife addition are awesome.. pity about Luke-Jr's superstitious vomit in the middle, but in a way even that is a testament(no pun intended) to the freedom granted by decentralization. |

I'm cautiously optimistic.. just shy of short term bullish.
Judging by some of the Good Wife episode reviews and comments outside of this forum - It seems to me that the 'bitcoin' aspect of the story is going to be to many, just some quirky sideline. Most fans of the show will be far more interested in the ongoing story arcs.
I still thought it was great publicity for bitcoin - just to get the word out there and in the back of people's minds.

Perhaps this reviewer's perspective is how many regular viewers of The Good Wife will perceive the bitcoin aspect of the story. Susan Toepfer is Entertainment/Features Editor of More magazine, but judging by this quote, perhaps fashion is more her thing than storylines. Alicia, stunning in a shirred jersey dress I believe we have seen before, comes to his rescue.

If you want to trade in BTC without being connected to blockchain and announced transactions, you will have a tough time to think it up working.
For example, one could pay by giving an address with given amount and private code for that address, but still, the vending machine must check if it is still in the blockchain and ASAP transfer that money out of that address.
Everything will be connected. Soon or later.
Ahhhhh Thats what i missed, The sending of fake coins, DOY! It could just use a low bandwidth connection to the vending machine operator's private server systems which do the actual blockchain checking. These servers could even issue the payment addresses to the machine so that the private keys never need to be stored on the vending machine or even travel to/from it. |
