14241  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Private Key cracker apparently demonstrated on: January 29, 2014, 01:22:02 AM
Fwiw I haven't seen him claim that anywhere in his thread, and honestly think he's well enough versed in math to know he will not be able to crack an address with any amount of bitcoins in it in the foreseeable feature. I don't really know what he's trying to achieve, though.
The thread has several instances of newbie accounts providing single pubkeys which evil claims to crack e.g: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421842.msg4800547#msg4800547
Ah, I see, my apologies.

edit: he's saying the addresses need to be "generated completely as to the manual" though...

So , I generate an address , send him the private key and then he can crack it? =))))))))))))0

14242  Economy / Economics / Re: [2014-1-28] Let Banks Fail Is Iceland Mantra as 2% Joblessness in Sight on: January 29, 2014, 01:13:50 AM
No mention of bitcoin.

Even though its not related Bitcoin directly, indirectly I think the OP posted this because of the inference of banks failing is not bad for Bitcoin.  Bitcoin is considered by many kind of the "anti-bank" mechanism now and in the future.  If banks fail, its not necessarily good, but it certainly isn't bad.

Have the entire banking system collapse and you'll eat your own words. This if nobody else will eat them first in a hunger panic.
Do you have a clue what that will mean? Thousands of unemployed people and business in ruin ?

Where did I say anything about the entire banking system going down?  I said banks failing.  Banks could be 2 banks, it could be 10 banks.  The more people that distrust banks the better it is for Bitcoin, Gold, precious metals, etc.  Obviously if the whole banking system fails the price of Bitcoins is the least of anyone's concern.  People who think that's good for Bitcoin don't know the real consequences of that.  We've had banks fail in most countries around the world, and in the next 5 years, we will continue to have banks fail in Russia, Greece, Portugal, etc.

Glad to gear you thought it like that.
People don't realize that bitcoin can't and will not replace banks. Banks will continue to survive even in a bitcoin ecosystem.

So after red and black we have blu , next is yello and after that orang.
Anything else for this coin than toying with the block reward?

14246  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling empty water bottles on: January 28, 2014, 11:42:22 PM
If anyone is interested in filling those bottles I'm selling water very cheap 0.01BTC for 1l.
It's from unknown sources so you might consider it extremely rare , and could go up in price in the next 10 000 years.
14247  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Sent 1.5M DOGE to DGC address on BTER.COM on: January 28, 2014, 11:30:38 PM
Well, maybe you should read a newspaper from time to time

And you should start reading one.And not the comic section.
Do you even have a clue what's the role of the PBC and what is the situation here?

14250  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia warns against using bitcoins on: January 28, 2014, 10:49:03 PM
Of course they're going to hate Bitcoin! But the Russian people will still want it because having more than $21,000 in a Russian bank doesn't seem attractive.
It is not a problem. If you have $210,000 just open 10 accounts in 10 different banks. If you have $2,100,000 just open 100 accounts in 100 different banks  Wink  Grin

Opening a bank account usually takes a couple of days. Good look spending half a year just to secure your $2M Smiley

Btw, my russian colleague has just given me a website where you find all the crashed banks log

http://www.banki.ru/banks/memory/

Google translate doesnt work for me, but at least you can see dates.

Have you at least checked the "banks" on that list?
I doubt any of them had more than 2.1 mils deposited =)))).

You're spreading FUD right now.
14251  Economy / Economics / Re: Russia warns against using bitcoins on: January 28, 2014, 10:45:49 PM
Isn't BTC-e located in Russia?

It's located in Bulgaria.
14252  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Sent 1.5M DOGE to DGC address on BTER.COM on: January 28, 2014, 10:35:22 PM
Told you before to threaten them with legal measures. Even drafted a text for you

Damn that place looks like warzone...

http://rt.com/op-edge/ukraine-prime-minister-resigned-297/
Do you think there will be new presidential elections?
I hope the army comes in and annihilates this "revolution".

It won't happen. The current regime is done for it.
And another Russian puppet will bite the dust.
14254  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Abused and abandoned ... please read this ! on: January 28, 2014, 10:18:37 PM
You take away our civilization we are no different than animals.

civilization is a big difference, I'd say.

Yeah , since even if you take civilization form us , this is temporary , we will build it once more from scratch.
And if you pity animals so much , do you eat meat? Wink

Which one ? Dpr or pirate@40? =))))
14256  Other / Meta / Re: Stop and Ban those alt coins copycats now on: January 28, 2014, 10:06:30 PM
Go try ban them lol, that is exactly why cryptocurrencies works: no one can ban them

But you can almost kill them.

Imagine deleting the alt coin section.
How many new coins will pop up ? Less than 10% of what they are doing now , as they don't have a place to get the initial userbase needed.
Also the value of the current launched ones will drop like a rock.
14257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin vs. Dogecoin: C-C2ME I (2014) ~ Let the race begin! on: January 28, 2014, 10:02:46 PM
First , I don't think that more than 0.001% of doge fans read the other sub-forums so they might not even have an idea about it.
Now that giveaways are banned probably they don't even come to the forum anymore.
Secondary , a competition between bitcoin and doge coin? Common.

Phinnaeus Gage has some great ideas for promoting stuff , some of them really "funny" but this time .. doge...neah.
14258  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Difficulty level predictions - is mining toast - Is everyone heading into war on: January 28, 2014, 09:51:20 PM
Yup.
Before buying the hardware, people should really check the profitability (there are tons of profit calculator out there), and take the uprising difficulty and electricity cost into consideration.
Even with profit calcs, it's very deceiving on what you're really going to make. I projected a 35 day return on my miners with difficulty and electricity adjustments which has now turned into 100 days thanks to the surprising rise in difficulty. You can't calculate that X factor to a solid number unless you know exactly what the thousands of other miners' circumstances are. It's just not a winning endeavor unless you get a miner for absolutely nothing...or if coin values quadruple in the next few days. Neither scenario seems likely.

Since August the increase in difficulty has been quite stable around the 25-30% mark , with a spike to 40 in late october but followed
by under 20% for the next 2 adjustments.
If you didn't take this into account , then you wasted your time with a wrong profit calculator or you get the numbers wrong.

Quark will be worth nothing. its waning and dying as we speak.

This is the guy who made a top 50 scam coins list and put Quark as number one.

Compared to whatever else he did , you might even forgive him for that list.
14260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining on: January 28, 2014, 10:53:08 AM
<too much post>

Now I can hear you! I really don't have a great understanding about the inflation rate and where it should be. I will say, at current adoption, your level sounds too high.
BUT, as things pick up, I can imagine it making more sense. The match behind all this is beyond me and I'm not sure if the creator really went deep there (and Satoshi with BTC as well.)

As far as coins failing and such, I think we need to see some failures happen within the next year, as currently there is a lot of dilution going on. That said, there needs to be more
than 1 or 2 Cryptos imo. The reasons are vast but difficult to communicate for I intuitionally (not institutionally ;-) see the Cryptos organically interacting with one another in a manner not yet seen (but in years from now).

Looking forward to how this all rolls out,
IAS

The problem with a failure right now , it's how much impact will it have on the rest of the networks.
Let's say a clonecoin dies. Nothing will happen , many have already died. Let's say a top 10 coin suffers a 51% attack and 18mil$ are turned to dust.
All the pow coins will be doomed.

There are some failures that even though you're learning something from them , are just so hard that you won't be able to recover from them.

As for my inflation idea , I already stated , I have nothing better than that and I don't consider it the best around , even by far.
