I have read that the SEC could stall this for up to 240 days!? That's including the stalling they have already done.

I have not used it since bitcoin, but I do have an account. Whenever they send me a spam email I ask if they have included bitcoin yet.   

I can only speak for myself, but bitcoin surpassed fiat seven years ago for me. Using a credit card or fiat system seems ridiculously archaic and dumb now. It's like switching to a smart phone, no one ever goes back to a flip phone.

Thanks all for the kind words in this thread. I think I will do this again and include some of your suggestions. I especially like the idea of of online users being able to join the treasure hunt and perhaps provide clues for those who can actually get to the prize. I'll have to come up with a better format in advance. This time I was experimenting a bit.
I hope whoever claims this treasure does send me an email. It would be cool to have a conclusion to the story. But if the money moves and no one ever steps forward then I guess we'll just have to think of him/her like Satoshi.  It could really happen at any time now.

Well, the .1BTC is just sitting there now. Anyone can go pick it up or maybe arrange with someone in Iceland. Remember there is also a .01BTC additional prize for emailing me a photo of the cache.  The clock is ticking now.  Norrisk has pinpointed it on streetview but was unable to figure out what the monument is about. I couldn't figure it out either when I was there, lol.

If you try spending the money in your pocket in another country you will discover that it is not real money like bitcoin, which I can spend in Asia, The Americas, Europe, etc.
If you try moving the money in your wallet you will also discover that you need lots of expensive help and time via credit card fees, bank transfers, etc. Bitcoin is by far the fastest and cheapest way to move money.
If you want to buy something online with the same privacy as paying with cash you are not going to do that with your bank money. There is no more secure way to send money to anyone on the planet.
If you actually want to keep your money in a store of value that is not under the control of a bank or government and can not have it's supply, distribution, or value decided by others; you will want to use the only real money, bitcoin.

What if I live in a place where it it completely legal to buy guns on the Internet? Because it is for Americans. The last 4-5 guns I have bought have been with bitcoin and I doubt I will ever buy with anything else again. The same could be said of drugs as well. If I lived in Washington state I could legally buy marijuana with cash, so why not bitcoin? How does bitcoin make these legal purchases "ridiculous"?

As you mentioned, step one is to secure the legal entity required to collect donations. It could be a non-governmental organization or a not for profit. Until that is in place you really just have an idea. Once you are set up you may find it easier to join a collecting organization like the United Way. They do the advertising and take on the risks for a portion of the donations. And, like any good business, they take bitcoin. Find out more in the link below.

I thought about it but found that google translate was just not good enough to get into cryptography. 

A better way to say this is that Chinese people control the most bitcoins, but have no additional authority over bitcoin. Think of it like gold. The united states controls more gold than any other country, but they can't control the gold someone in another country owns.
