1523  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: glbse.com sure seems "user mean" so far on: July 26, 2011, 02:18:34 PM
Thanks for taking the time to help me with this.

Yes, I still get the problem in Google Chrome (the browser, haven't tried running the Chrome OS in a VM yet), as well as FireFox.

It also occurs with Market History and Bitcoin History.

I'd post the screenshot, but i cannot seem to attach an image to this message - "Additional Options" doesn't show that as an option.
Is there a simple way to directly attach or send an image without a link to an external web site (apart from email)?

 -#tew

I don't think so, you'll have to use an external image service like imgur.com

1525  Economy / Services / Re: Need a 250 BTC Loan on: July 26, 2011, 11:08:17 AM
You might want to go to glbse.com and list some shares or sell some bonds, so instead of one giant loan you get many tiny ones. This is what several others have had success in doing.

1527  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: More crap to deal with - Dwolla Reverses TradeHill Transactions on: July 26, 2011, 04:41:35 AM
The problem is bitcoin is a hard currency, and any attempts to hook it up to the soft currency system (a.k.a. banks where almost everything can be charged back) means that there are going to be gaps created that people will take advantage.

This is an issue/problem with the current banking system, a lot of the fraud that happens today is only possible because of the current broken banking system.
1528  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling a bitcoin bond at GLBSE at 95% value, maturation date December 1st on: July 26, 2011, 04:36:43 AM
Creating the bond cost 0.5 BTC (I also got charged an extra 0.5 BTC on some operation, not sure exactly which ... I'd really want to see a charge history feature in GLBSE)
Have you seen https://glbse.com/fees.html?  It doesn't list any other 0.5 BTC fees.  Isn't there someone you could contact about that?  Doesn't seem like double-fees would be something any startup would want to have potentially driving away customers/users.

Sure, if you think you've been charged twice then please tell me (it has happened, there is an obscure bug in the system, and telling me gets you you're btc back and helps me find it).

Yeah, I believe I got charged twice. All I did was create a bond (0.5 BTC) and create the ticker symbol (which I believe is free).
Do you need any information not already posted here to investigate?

pm me your user id and I'll sort it out.
1529  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE json API up and running on: July 26, 2011, 03:55:13 AM
I look forward to it.

BTW, is the GLBSE platform designed to scale?

A few changes in the backend (the database) need to be made, but apart from that it should easily scale. It's designed as a finite state machine for most parts of the system except the actual order matching, so scaling is really just a case of adding more machines.
I'm planning on making the needed changes to have it run on Heroku, in which case scalability is only a matter of cost then.

1530  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE json API up and running on: July 26, 2011, 02:39:23 AM
Is there, or will there be, an API for placing orders. API would need to:

o) Query existing orders in the owners account
o) Cancel or adjust said orders
o) Create new ones

Then I could write a market maker for what I have planned....

Also, can I request a 'GTD' order type (Good 'Til Date) so that you can place an order that will automatically expire at a given date/time.

We're in the process of having a client lib that would allow full interaction with GLBSE, it's written in python and there already but is being tested, with a few bugs to fix.

I'd say give us about a week for this.

so they have a copy of your wallet.dat?

where are you now?

Eh no they don't have a copy of my wallet.dat or any of my passwords. I think I mentioned in the article that both the phone and mobile had almost nothing on them.

I'm back home in China now.
1533  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Image Macros on: July 25, 2011, 03:40:47 PM
Policing images would put far too much work on the mods plates.

I think we'll be sticking to our very permissive ways for the near future until it becomes a real problem (i.e. image spamming). Also sometimes I like the images, has anyone looked at the thread watching bitcoin prices, that's full of those images. Some of them are pretty appropriate though.

Long story short though if you don't like them then use a filter.

Current web UI doesn't allow me to transfer bitcoin to a created account.

I still get a pop-up with "[object Object]      <Ok>" when I click the "Get Deposit Address" on the current version of FireFox running on Mac OSX.

Also annoying, I still can't post in the correct forum due to newbie (cursing the hours spent lurking) status.

-#tew

Hey tew, hmmm.

I don't have a mac to check this out on, and there has been others also on mac some time ago that had similar problems.

Do you get the [object object] error for any other function, like say Bitcoin history or market history.

The only advice I can give ATM is to give Googles Chrome a shot.

Let me know if this worked or not and we'll see where we go from there.

1535  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Selling a bitcoin bond at GLBSE at 95% value, maturation date December 1st on: July 25, 2011, 12:17:22 PM
It seems like there should be some value just in properly creating the mechanics of a bond. I would think there would be a way to integrate it with GLBSE, not by investing with companies but by having the bond payout be in shares at market value for a GLBSE security.

My suggestion would be to use the money from your bond to set up a website that handles creating bonds.

I don't understand. What's missing with the bond in the way I created it?

The way you set up the bond, you listed it on GLBSE and investors bought it. Simple enough, but it requires knowing how to list things on GLBSE. If I understand correctly, the idea proposed here is to provide a simpler way for people to list bonds, you provide a front-end service that takes their information, then lists it as an asset on GLBSE where investors purchase it. You could ask for some cut of the money, and give some sort of guarantee if the bond-holder defaults, giving less risk to the investors at the price of a lower reward. GLBSE is pretty much anonymous, your service would collect all the personal information on people asking for a loan, even get a credit score.

I think GLBSE is set up to have assets and subassets, using subassets reduces the cost of multiple listings (I am not sure, but I think the asset costs 2.5 bitcoin and subassets are free?) so you could have main asset Bond, and subassets Bond.PersonA and Bond.PersonB.

GLBSE already has a web UI, and I imagine it will improve over time. I don't see much value of creating a 3rd party service that will provide just a wrapper of GLBSE.

Creating the bond cost 0.5 BTC (I also got charged an extra 0.5 BTC on some operation, not sure exactly which ... I'd really want to see a charge history feature in GLBSE)

Part of the purpose of this exercise was to learn how to use GLBSE, and make it profitable enough for other people to learn it as well.

BTW, you can see the trade and bid history of my bond here.

Yes GLBSE has a web interface, but GLBSE itself is really just a platform, Peter is correct in saying that the best thing to do would be to build a front end just for bonds, collecting the details just as Peter said.

We've got a command line client which is in the process of being turned into a app-usable library, so you wouldn't be building a "wrapper" for GLBSE, you'd be adding value.

To top it off BitcoinGlobal(the company that owns GLBSE) can partially subsidise with BTC some of the development of such a system and offer the subdomain bonds.glbse.com if anyone is interested.

Much thanks for these tool's Ben, we'll be building them right into the next release of the command line client. It's going to be a big update and all for the better.

come to Australia!  The land of the labour government and taxation.  But the people (on the most-part) are good.  Cheesy

I know, I was there fou a couple of months (in 2000 also), people complain about the poisonous animals (spiders/snakes etc.) but I actually enjoyed that part. Top it all off I got bit by a bull ant, god those things are HUGE and NASTY.

I just might do that, but not for the time being, I need to focus on making GLBSE better now rather than all the paperworky bullshit.
1538  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: First airline ticket bought with bitcoin. on: July 25, 2011, 10:07:07 AM
I don't care for china's way of doing things. They have very heavy censorship, and a communist government by nature is no good for any kind of investing.

This is also not mentioning some very unethical trafficking ventures they do in prisons.

If i had a choice i would defect from the world and conduct business in limbo.

I don't care for the USA's way of doing things. They have heavily biased corporate-controlled media, corrupt government, close-minded people and no consideration for other earthlings. They don't feel obligated to fullfill their part of international treaties. They do not feel they're bound by international law. They invade countries and fuck up other peoples lives based on greed.

Don't even get me started on their domestic and offshore prisons.

If I had a choice, I would ignore the US.

(oh, about the airline ticket and chinese bitcoiners: awesome! continue!)

Now now lets not get into a name calling contest.
1539  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitHub, a bitcoin hackers hub in Seattle, not happening. on: July 25, 2011, 06:16:50 AM
lol at such bullshit.  Did they ask permission before stealing all your data on your devices or was there no way to protest it?  Did they force you to give up your passcodes for any encrypted/locked items or did they just ask you to unlock them and let them peruse through them?

I didn't have any information on my phone or ipad beyond a couple of numbers, a map and an address. All my encrypted stuff is in the cloud.

They asked if they had any pin numbers or passcodes for the devices, they didn't ask permission to copy them. You're pretty much at their mercy when coming in as a non-American. It's up to them whether to let you in or not, and getting "uppity" with them is not going to get them to let you in.

The ticket has come to nothing, here are the details of why.

That sounds like it was brutal. Great read though.
Did you sleep during that whole time? How long until you can apply for a new Visa?

So from Sunday evening when I boarded the train to Beijing to when I arrived back home on Wed afternoon I had not slept or lied down on a bed, the entire time was sitting or standing. I was the living dead by the end of it.

I can apply for a visa right away but there is like a 2 month queue just for the application in Beijing. I could fly to the UK and apply there (which would probably take 2 weeks) since I'm British, and then go but thats a huge waste of money, and a lot of times been wasted already.
