Make it cpu and i will mine it for our glorious leader!
1665  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seeking advice on: January 09, 2014, 01:00:35 PM
Mining can be profitable, if you like to take a risk and spend some money. For about $400 you would get a nice graphic card that would help you out getting started. Then you should mine new coins on there very first moment. So you would end up with many different coins. And then you just wait if it will be ever profitable to sell them (maybe wait month or years).

This advice is only good for you if you are willing to stay calm for a longer period of time; thus not selling coins to quickly (longterm investment).

On the other side you might consider buying some coins that are on a low price right now.

Your laptop cannot help you as mentioned already.

Anyway this is only my point of view. No guarantee that this will work of course.

Good luck either way!

scrypt coins are dying fast. and there are so many people that will point their cards to the ones that will not fail that 1 card will be nothing. scrypt has no future. to add to my argument we are already waiting for scrypt asic miners...

The future is only sha256 or strict CPU. Just right now you can make money from scrypt but wont last much...
1666  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seeking advice on: January 09, 2014, 12:49:26 PM
I am mining with my laptop and there is no problem since this is cpu only coin. When i play battlefield it gets 100% more hot than mining...

But yes with only 1 laptop mining will not make you rich. Though 1 DTC per day might be 1-2-3  dollars per day in the future which isnt that bad...

Currently i mine Datacoins with 2 threads while using my pc and 4 threads when i am sleeping.

The community needs to adapt the argument to serve the non-tech investors and non-tech crypto enthusiasts more appropriately:

Please take a look at the following arguments:

1. Ah! The very concept of what is legal or illegal can change with time, we shouldn't bother with that anyway!
2. But if DTC stops the permanent uploading to the blockchain, then where will Assange upload the next lot of secret documents?
3. It doesn't matter if some people upload files to the blockchain, if you don't have access to it, why are you worrying?
4. The files are going to be stored via steganography, so the file only exists for one who holds the key to it.
5. Anyone who uploads illegal files and keep the access keys to it would be incredibly stupid.

All of these are NOT good enough. Why?

They demand some sort of faith in the system or believe in a specific paradigm. (1,2,3 and 5) ...or they demand some sort of specific technical knowledge. (4)

Arguments that require some sort of faith in the system, or believe in a paradigm, are entirely useless. Some people will adopt those arguments, but the majority will not, and if the success of DTC is intrinsically related to bringing the masses to the coin, one MUST conclude these are weak arguments that will not help in the long term.

Arguments that require some sort of technical knowledge are GOOD, but ONLY if people are able to understand them. For instance, the very use of the word steganography is going to make loads of people run away from the coin. The argument itself is good, but it needs to be simplified to reach the masses.

I've been working in the advertising industry for 10+ years, and these are techniques that marketers have been successfully using long before that.

I like this thing but for sure needs some time. But yeah i am trying to understand as much as i can about Datacoin so that i can do this...
1669  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: January 09, 2014, 12:10:19 PM
But lets say you know that wn3 from sdfg25sdwfge0021nsd23 is what you want deleted. Can you delete those 3 bytes without problem? Obviously i dont understand how blockchain work yet and thats why i am asking...

1671  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: January 09, 2014, 11:45:17 AM
But i wanted to ask something i am not i remember correctly. Maybe it is already posted somewhere in this thread.

I have the blockchain in my computer. Is it possible for me to delete part of it without a problem? Lets say i dont want the first test file already stored in the blockchain. Can i delete it somehow but continue having the rest of the blockchain without problem?
1672  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: January 09, 2014, 11:32:28 AM
I would ask the people that is so worried about illegal content to go ask a lawyer instead of posting their worries here, or at least before posting.

You sound like you do not appreciate the fact that people are posting their worries here. If you ask me, THAT makes no sense!

This is an open forum created to discuss crypto-currencies and it seems like that's exactly what we are doing here. This thread is design to receive commentary from all sorts of people, some are going to be good, and some are going to bring attention to all sorts of problems. The very success of DTC depends on people doing that.

How can one fix a problem, if one does not know the problem exists?

If DTC has no real issue with hosting illegal content, why so many people seem to avoid discussing this topic? If DTC has no problem with illegal files, why you suggest I should not post my worries here, and instead get in touch with a laywer? THAT makes no sense whatsoever!

Am I the only one talking about that issue? You only need to read the thread to see how many people mentioned the illegal files issue. The truth is that as long as people like you keep treating these worries as a minor inconvenience, you will keep pushing people away from DTC.

If my suggestion sound non-sensical to you, then something else must be done to bring those people like me to your side. If one can convince me that the illegal issue is not really an issue, I will promptly invest and promote the coin. Until now, none of the arguments were strong enough to accomplish that.

Perhaps, what this community really needs is a group of lawyers to come here, and add their own two cents on the topic. Do you know any that would do that?

See this: http://www.reddit.com/r/Datacoin/comments/1tvwhu/if_i_run_a_datacoin_node_and_somebody_uploads/cecdi4e

Now the point is that you cant have a decentralized storage system and someone to also police it. it cant happen. Simple as that. And if Datacoin will ever be illegal because of illegal stuff on the blockchain the same can happen for bitcoin. Definition of what is illegal and what is not is very broad. If a country says that bitcoin is illegal will you still use it or not? There are prime numbers that are illegal. Why? If you want answers read the whole thread here and also on reddit. And indeed talking to a lawyer is the best thing you can do indeed. But i am not sure he will easily be able to answer too. It depends on many things and how aggressive a goverment wants to be...

Edit because of your post: But if you ask about legality it doesnt matter if noone is looking at bitcoin or not. You are asking if it is illegal or not. Or i could answer you that you will never probably get arrested for storing the blockchain where others put something illegal...if you know what i mean..

1673  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Next step: web applications inside blockchain (demo) on: January 09, 2014, 11:12:16 AM
Yes i would like to se an example and maybe a guide of how to do something like this example.

Also can someone answer to my question up in this thread about the pic on that block? Can i see the pic somehow?

The thing is i dont understand exackly what this do! What i thing is that we now can find files stored immediately from the browser just with a link. If i am correct what do i do wrong:

There is a pic on block 131513. I got there and i see this : data   Browse data in another tab

I press it but i cant see the pic or the base64 of it.

P.S. Try to read the other thread. There are many questions to be answered. Maybe already answered but yeah. For example  people are asking about the fee being too big Wink
1676  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Next step: web applications inside blockchain (demo) on: January 09, 2014, 01:08:24 AM
Very nice to see you here! I am reading this right now and trying to understand as much as i can! Already posted the link of this on the other thread so others can see it too cause with all the spam coins it will get buried.

Edit: Very good news! I dont understand it and i would not be able to run Datacoin Local HTTP server myself but i suppose in a few days it will be more explained and i will. I lack skills.
1677  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: January 09, 2014, 01:07:11 AM
Good news everybody! I am putting this here cause it will get buried because of the shitty coins anouncements! I am very glad to see it!

And oocook5u whenever you can please try to read this whole thread and answer to questions. I know you already have answered to some but yeah. For example what about the fees people are asking?
1678  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Datacoin] Datacoin blockchain start announcement (Minor code upd + logo) on: January 08, 2014, 11:15:29 PM
People should understand that as long as there is a blockchain there can be stored illegal stuff there forever. And the point of a blockchain is this "forever". This is the same for Datacoin, Namecoin, Bitcoin etc...

1680  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [Datacoin] DataMinerWatch – bash script for restarting Primeminer on hangs on: January 08, 2014, 05:34:43 PM
I changed my pool from gpool to xpool today. And while all of my vps changed only one of them for some reason wont start mining prompting this error:

grep: /home/user/datawatch/logs/: Is a directory

Edit: i rebooted and it now works. still i have tried what you said but i will.
