17381  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you guys think this will affect the price? on: July 23, 2012, 07:50:11 PM
I certainly classify this news as big news, but do you think it'll have an effect?

http://wikispeed.com/wikispeed-team-blog/wikispeed-first-car-maker-in-the-world-to-accept-bitcoin-press-release

if the car becomes at all popular, its sure to effect bitcoin price

they are not as expensive as you'd think

but i need a van not a little sports car ....

17384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best <insert name>coins to speculate on on: July 23, 2012, 02:10:45 AM
In my opinion once asic hit, all gpus will be targeted on litecoin.  Just a hunch.

Interesting. I think I'll buy a few.

Does this mean litecoins value will increase? I can't imagine how hash-power should affect value?

i think litecoin is CPU mining only.

some high end cpu is best for litcoin

i thought i read that somewhere

10$ will either appear next week, or in 4 months

I think its very likely we will be seeing a short term down trend from here. much like 7.20 to 5, this time the 9.50 high will stabilize at 7$ 8$

but in the long term and mid term  bitcoin is defiantly going for a never ending bull run.

Its not unreasonable to think an EXTREME price correction on the up side will happen in the next few years, it really wouldn't take much to set off the bomb that is bitcoin

That is something someone who doesn't understand how markets work would say.

Bitcoin long-term is bullish, but to say it will be "never ending" is just silly.

Money will flow in to bitcoin and out of bitcoin.....rinse repeat....at what rate this happens is anyone's guess.

I still believe the recent ~50% run up in price since 2 months ago is all speculation.

I mean how many more merchants accept bitcoin from then until now? What like 20?

Bitcoin is still in its infancy. More of a steady rise in price over long-term is healthier for the bitcoin economy.

I'm sorry can't do it mate. I've already done the research on how markets work. There is no "never ending bull" market. That's like saying the price can only go up. Even in hyperinflation the bull run ends. DUhhh
Never ending bull run

I'm sorry I wont wake you up from your crazy never ending bull market wet dream lol

17388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Multi-sig or scalability--which is more pressing? on: July 22, 2012, 05:15:21 AM
Multisig support was already (re)enabled in the protocol with the last release.

Scalability is not on the backburner at all. Right now there's a ton of work going into it:

  • Myself and Stefan are upgrading the Satoshi client to use LevelDB, which eliminates IO as a bottleneck on hard disk based nodes. This should make blocks and transactions propagate a lot faster across the network, which in turn should mean mining pools find it profitable to include SatoshiDice transactions again.
  • sipa and Matt have been experimenting with different ways of doing pruning, which means you can have a full node that doesn't store the entire block chain. Sipa also has refactored some of the core TX verification code in a way that'll make it easier to multi-thread in future.
  • Jeff has been doing some initial work and design proposals for connection filtering, which is needed to make bandwidth usage for lightweight clients linear in wallet activity rather than system activity
  • Just generally a bunch of us are working on bitcoinj, which is a lightweight (SPV) implementation of Bitcoin which scales with wallet activity rather than system activity. Eventually nearly all users will be using SPV clients, meaning they won't have to download or process the whole block chain. We can already run Bitcoin on mobile phones, which is a big achievement, but there's still plenty of work left to do.
  • Gavin has been finding ways to make hard-forking changes much smoother and easier in future, which will be important when we reach the 1MB limit.

If anything I'd say right now most development effort, at least from "core" developers, is going into scalability.

this is really encouraging.  thank you guys very much for your great efforts.

This! Smiley

This is gr8!

fuck man I will NEVER sell out, not at 5$ not at 5000$.

That's my exit strategy, man!

For consistency a correction like from 7.2 to 5 would be either 6.6 for a relative calculation or 7.3 for absolute.

Actually, using the start and end of the rally and a relative calculation:

10^(((log(5)-log(2))/(log(7.22)-log(2)))*(log(9.7)-log(5)) + log(5)) = 8.02
10^(((log(3.87)-log(2))/(log(7.22)-log(2)))*(log(9.7)-log(5)) + log(5)) = 7.03

If things go the same way, we will sustain a crash to 7 but stabilize at 8.  That is if 9.7 is the high for this rally, which I very much doubt!

thats the big question

is the rally over!?

If the rally is over, then we can expect to slowly make our way to a stable 8

but with pirate40 and so many other variable in play who the hell knows.

We could wake up Monday morning to find the 15$ mark was demolished. Pirate40 Totally out of coins, Dreaming it ill go back down. A Strong up-ward force Shooting bitcoin AS high as it can go looking for a "top", add to that headlines reading "Bitcoin's second bubble" and someone asks "what the hell is bitcoin, is it a scam?".

what is the "top" on that shit, at what price will you sell out?

fuck man I will NEVER sell out, not at 5$ not at 5000$.

we are sitting on a time bomb, it could go off today, it could go off 10 years from now, but its fucking ticking that's for sure

Mike I was wondering if you had any thoughts on my latest revision?

It is a start but not very competitive as compared to the currently nominated candidates and still spends a lot of ink on turning white paper red (and grey) without much dazzle to show for it.  I think like others are saying, it's a start, but would need much more work to be a serious contender.

Even Psy's note contains a lot of yellow in its background, but once converted to vector, if the yellow background were to be dropped out, the substance of the work is still there.  On yours, if the red gradient were dropped out, very little is left.

I assure you your concerns regarding ink usage are unfounded. Here is a detailed analysis showing my image to be the one that uses the least amount of ink compared to all the currently qualified candidates. REPORT HERE: https://i.imgur.com/BjJs0.jpg

Despite this, I have also developed an "Ink Conservative" alternative version of my note, displayed below. While obviously I prefer my colored version, this may be valuable to those working on a limited budget.

PS unclemantis, I have heard and value your opinion, thank you.

Still looking for constructive criticism

I think if someone can make a web app that can take My own Atlas Face and  put it on that bill, we'd have something really cool here

web app makes a pdf. And sells it for 0.001BTC a page

0.1BTC for 100pages

4billsApage* 100pages *0.01BTC funding each

4.1BTC = 40.00$ worth with your face on it!

I would give it away to friends and family
