181  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 110Gh/s - What do the light colours mean? on: December 26, 2013, 05:19:17 PM
Yellow light blinking means it's mining normally.  Yellow light on solid means it's idle and not mining (no pool connectivity).

Red light indicates an internal fault, like a power supply failure.

Now since the only payment option is in BTC Will I get the same ammount of BTC back should you fail to deliver by December 31st?

Orders are taken in BTC, in the unlikely event we get to refunds they will be given in BTC.

This response sounds an awful lot like a confirmation that the same amount of btc will be returned.  Thanks ninjarobot for bringing this quote back up.

I would honestly like an explanation where in that response you've found a confirmation that the full amount of BTC would be returned? Cycloid asks if he will "get the same amount of BTC back", and Simon Barber answers "refunds ... will be given in BTC." Just for a second make an assumption that Simon Barber is a ruthless scammer and that he made a vague answer on purpose, where do you read "same amount of btc" in his answer?

I'd say that his quoting a guy asking precisely the question "Will I get the same ammount of BTC back"? leaves very little room for playing games with semantics.

Hi there,

i am looking to solomine with one jupiter. Any idea how to manage that? I could setup a pool on a raspberry, right?

You will need bitcoind and the whole blockchain.  Not sure a Rpi would like that unless you used a USB SATA drive.

You will also need a local stratum proxy or pool server.  Bitcoind cannot reliably handle 600GHps+ of mining load using the old getwork protocol.

See this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=158105.0

I would be surprised if a Pi is powerful enough for the job.

Be aware that to mine altcoins you will need to change the Network ID in the eloipool config to match the network you are mining on.

I can almost guarantee you that the fans will be loud.  3kW is a buttload of energy to dissipate as heat using air-based cooling.

As for the risk of fire, so long as the power supply and all of the DC cables are contained inside the unit's metal enclosure (unlike the KnC units), I think the risk is minimal.

Do be sure you power it using appropriately-sized circuit(s) and power cables.

BitSyncom/Avalon also stole people's FPGA hardware.  They asked them to send it in for trade-in credit and then simply kept it.

Update: I tried holding down the small button on the front of the control board while powering the unit on, and it came to life now and booted normally.  I don't know if the button press did it, or if it was just luck.  I'm afraid to touch it again now.

good to know.

I have a bad unit that is very prone to this kind of behaviour: it simply want to boot after been switched off.
the only way to resurrect it is reflashing the fw through the SD card.

next time i'll give this method a try. Did you try it by luck or did you read somewhere, maybe on some BBB forums?

Just luck/guesswork.

dairy100, are you sure the pool is alive and that the miner can reach the pool?

If so, I would try disconnecting the data cables from the modules and reconnecting them one at a time, checking whether you get any hashes after each step.

(Do not connect or disconnect any cables while the unit is powered-on.  Always power it off first.)

My November Jupiter hashed at 670GH/s when it was working perfectly.  Last week something went wrong in it and I've got a die off and it gets 630GH/s now.

did you try to increase the voltage for switched off die?

There is no voltage adjustment available on the November units, so no.
and you are running    kncminer-0.99.1-E_November.bin      ?

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxXlEOb-bf3AVUFRSHNLRHVudGc

I am.  I was running 0.99-E when the failure occurred.  0.99.1-E did not fix the issue.
Buggah!  Thought I'd ask...   Just to check.... you also went thru & did the pci plug wiggles, tried the Temp-Wake method, tried pressing on the bar-clamp...(on that asic)..and tried re-flashing?... all the norms.....?

Son-of-a-Josh.  I tried some of those things (swapping the power and data cables around) and now I really killed it to where it won't boot.  Sad

The control board LEDs don't come on at all now, though all the fans run and the ethernet port link LEDs come on.  The BBB shows a single blue LED but never anything else.

I tried disconnecting all the modules' data cables, but the behavior did not change.

I think I may have the corrupt flash storage problem.  I guess I'll hunt around for an SD card now and try to boot off that.

My cable swapping did not solve the dead die problem.

It's the last die that's off BTW.  VRMs 7 and 8 show low output amperage (1.35A and 0.603A respectively.)
190  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HASHFAST warranty just TEN DAYS after delivery on: December 25, 2013, 06:54:45 PM
Doesn't Eurpoean consumer protection law require a 2 year warranty on electronic goods?  I believe HF offers their products for sale to European customers.

November Jupiters have been hashing at ~700GH/s

consistently?

links please.

My Nov Jup is consistant at 670 GH/s.

192  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: December 25, 2013, 06:42:51 PM
A judgement of bitcoins against hashfast would most likely kill the company at this point (my guess is they sold the bulk at ~$150).

I find it unlikely that it will drive sobriety into the ASIC producers.

If I had to guess, it will instead foster the development of private self-mines a la 100TH and Asic Miner, and companies selling hardware to the public will be a thing of the past.

A deserved death then.  One they brought upon themselves.

I think that such a judgement would indeed serve as a warning to other would-be vendors not to repeat HF's mistakes.  Had this occurred with BFL, HF customers might not be in this position now.

There is nothing inherently wrong with the preorder model.  What's wrong is intentionally misrepresenting the timetable and the risks involved, lying about the progress made, and trying to change the terms of the sale after money has been paid.

194  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [GROUP BUY 5] 3.15 BTC - Bitmain Antminer 180GH/s Christmas Special 300 Units on: December 25, 2013, 04:41:38 AM
one for me please

Ok. Before elastic band's offer, 29 were reserved. Elasticband wants to order 10 but there only 1 left.

There are now 300 units available, per the OP.  Not 30 as was originally planned.  Plenty for all now.

Why no escrow?

Any plans to offer the U1s soon?

While I think it would be nice for the KNC gear to be priced more competitively, there is still the chance they will do this when they open up Jupiter orders next week.

They only said that they might be offering more Jupiters for sale.  I don't understand why so many people seem to think that they will for sure.
198  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast thread derailment part 3 on: December 24, 2013, 07:40:22 PM
Inaba welched on a 1000 BTC bet that he personally made here on the forums:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=191600.0

Why no scammer tag?

MNW earned a scammer tag for the same offense:
http://codinginmysleep.com/et-tu-matt-bitcoin-mag-founder-welches-on-big-bet/

On a side note, I have a 5 BTC bet going myself regarding whether HF will deliver by year's-end.  Should I lose you can be assured I will be paying up, and should I fail to, I will be expecting the tag.
