Just loved to have the knowledge to know what to do with those chips and how to solder BGA without a skittle... :p

They're QFN48, I believe, which is a hell of a lot easier to solder. You can even get sockets for those and plug them into a breadboard.

ASICMINER's QFN48s came in tubes:

Not that that answers much.
1003  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: April 17, 2013, 07:53:47 PM
I can confirm that feb 2-3 orders are entered in avalon store.

Order #xxxx made on February 2, 2013. Order status: processing.

 Thank you avalon, can't wait.

I assume you mean they're being entered, my feb 3 order is still not there. I doubt I'm alone in this.

Same.  I ordered on 03-Feb.  I can login to my walletbit account and see the order receipt, but logging into store.avalon-asics.com with my username "bogart" shows no orders.

I also received an email confirmation on 17-April from info@store.avalon-asics.com saying that my order was received, and gives an order number #1049.

I will watch for it to appear in my account, and file a ticket if I don't see it by 19-April.

Can you clarify? Did you get a confirmation on Apr 17 for your Feb 3rd order?

Correct...well, almost.  17-Feb is when I received the email confirmation.  I mis-typed when I said "17-April".

At that time, I replied that a part of the address was missing, and a few minutes later got an email "A note has been added to your order", with the details now showing the correct address.

I like the automotive-style blade fuse.  Red fuse == 10A.

1006  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: coinjedi / betsofbitco.in SCAMMERS: Declares "Push" on obvious win for BFL bet on: April 16, 2013, 08:44:49 PM
How is it that Luke-Jr ended up going to BFL HQ anyway?

I thought the community elected Kano and Yochdog for the job: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=112543.msg1358390#msg1358390

Anyone know?
1007  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current/future Avalon owners - where will you mine? on: April 16, 2013, 08:17:10 PM
I used to mine BTC on Eligius, and it worked OK, but anymore I mine BTC on bitparking 'cuz it lets me pick up merged-mining rewards for 3 different altcoins (vs Eligius' 1 altcoin).

When I mine TRC or PPC, I do it solo.

Not to threadjack, but I saw these on bitmit:

https://www.bitmit.net/en/item/26611-verkaufe-fpga-2-ztex-bitcoin-miner

Shipping is to EU only, so I can't buy them myself.

I'm in for some chips.  TX details in PM.
1010  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [WTS] Avalon Chips Available to Order; Purchase Consortium, 1 chip minimum. on: April 16, 2013, 04:22:36 AM
For myself, I appreciate being offered the chance to come play, and will judge for myself the risks.

Even if I fail to build any working hardware, I may still end up having bought myself an education of sorts.

As was mentioned earlier, I can still sell the chips on to someone else.

I don't know if "being your own BFL" is too fair of a comparison.  Most of the hard work here (making the chips in particular) is already done, and I hear there is a reference design of some kind to be provided.
1011  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Amagi Metals - Largest Selection of Gold & Silver for Bitcoins on: April 16, 2013, 03:26:23 AM
Received my orders today, both of them.

They were well packed, and the items look great.

Thanks.

1013  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon Asic] trade-in Thread on: April 16, 2013, 02:50:50 AM
I've got mine all packed and labels printed to ship out by EMS in the morning.

I'm dividing them into 2 shipments so as to split the risk of loss or delay.

Edit: Now it looks like i may have to buy BTC to complete the purchase by the time they arrive.  I hope that's not too difficult.
1014  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: April 15, 2013, 06:34:41 PM
Since this "is" Avalon users thread let us poor people know how much money you guys have made that you have CASHED in, NOT how many bitcoins you have accumulated.

Not the answer you wanted, but in the 34 days I've had my Avalon, I've used it to accumulate 253.6 BTC.

I've spent some on various things (gold, silver, FPGAs), but I pretty much never exchange my coins for straight fiat.

Mind you, I've used some tricks, such as mining altcoins which I sold for BTC and such, to achieve that good of a number.

I'm so glad I didn't sell it for $10k or $20k when the offers came.

I must say, the crabs are delicious.
1015  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: April 15, 2013, 06:20:37 PM

Also in regards to the avalon unit coming back online from a power outage, sometimes that does not happen. Rarely what could happen is the unit will be left in a zombie like state because the control board did not initialize properly. For me this happened once when there was a brownout.

would the control board respond to a ping in that situation from this device?  http://dataprobe.com/iboot-g2.php

Bear in mind that router board (which runs the cgminer software and management front end) is NOT the control board. What I mean by the control board is the Spart6 FPGA board that takes the instructions from the cgminer software running on the router board and coverts that to work batches for the ASICS. The control board is the one with all the "IDE like" cables running out of it and to the individual hashing modules. The control board does not respond to ping requests because it is not accessible via any network protocols as it's attached to the router board via USB. The router board responds to ping request and I'd imagine it would also respond to ping request even if the mining software is not running or in some sort of locked up or crashed state. If the router's OS was completely down or broken then yes it would not respond to ping requests. The power control devices - dataprobe - are of limited use in this scenario. They are still useful for when you want to quickly power cycle the machine for whatever reason.

It would be neat if they made a 2 socket version of the iBoot-G2. The reason for 2 is that ideally you'd want 2 Avalon units per 15 Amp circuit. The one with multiple power sockets has only 1 power in cable.

Edit: Ooops..seems there is a iBoot-G2+ which allows you to control up to 3 power outlets. Neat!

Yep, it is a neat device but you're stuck having to constantly ssh in to try and catch the rare zombie like condition.

What other solutions are there assuming they're kept off site?

I have mine connected to a Web Power Switch:

http://www.digital-loggers.com/lpc.html

The WPS itself has an "AutoPing" feature that can ping an IP every minute or so, and reset the specified outlet if it fails to respond after a few requests.

The whole WPS can only handle 15A in total.  If I wanted to put a bigger load on it, I'd build some relay boxes to allow it.

Suggest you edit the thread title to indicate what your GB proposes buying, so I don't have to click into the thread to find out.

1018  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Why do i need the AMD ADL SDK?? on: April 14, 2013, 01:01:43 PM
When I compile cgminer, I always make sure to link it to ADL.  If I don't it will be unable to read temperatures from the GPUs.
1019  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: is modminerquadstore.com legit ? on: April 14, 2013, 11:45:22 AM
It's this guy that sells them:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=175872.0

Maybe you could PM him and ask about buying using escrow.
1020  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Noob Issues with FPGA on: April 14, 2013, 04:24:39 AM
I know that with cgminer, you need to compile it with --enable-modminer to make it work.

It might be similar with bfgminer.  I understand the two share a lot of code.

I think you also need the ftdi_sio module to be present.  'sudo modprobe ftdi_sio'

Also, unless you have libudev support compiled in, you'll need to specify the device manually '-S /dev/ttyUSB0 -S /dev/ttyUSB1' etc.
