381  Bitcoin / Hardware / Who else has 65nm BFL chips on hand? on: November 17, 2013, 04:51:47 AM
So I'm stuck with 87 chips that were delivered too late for me to get in on MrTeal's batch 1 or batch 2 Chili productions.

MrTeal says that a third batch could happen if there are enough orders for 100+ boards:

What would it take for there to be a batch 3?
I would guess at least 100 boards or so.

So...with 713+ more chips it could happen.

Is there anyone else out there stuck with these chips?  Post how many chips you've got, and let's see if we can make this happen.
382  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [closed] Garr255 grievance over late delivery of 87 BFL chips on: November 17, 2013, 04:30:16 AM
I've decided to stop pursuing the accusation.

The chips were delivered, albeit ~50 days late.

Details in the thread linked in the OP.
383  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [BFL CHIPS] Group-Purchase :: 100 Chips ordered 6.16.2013 on: November 17, 2013, 04:27:30 AM
Well, I'm gonna stop arguing the matter.  Right or wrong it's not worth the ugly feeling I get from it.  I've accepted that I'm stuck with the chips.

I've started a thread to try to find a use for them:

384  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinCraft A1 28nm promises up to 2 TH/s at 0.35-1W/GH on: November 17, 2013, 02:51:32 AM
They seem expensive pretty expensive compared to Cointerra's price for 2Th..

Don't these hit before cointerra ?

I'd put money on it.  Oh wait, I already did.

October 1, 2013: CoinCraft tapeout announcement: https://bitmine.ch/?p=2049

November 8, 2013: CoinTerra tapeout announcement: http://cointerra.com/cointerra-open-silicon-announce-tape-goldstrike1-asic/

I made my decision before either tapeout announcement, based on the chip designs.

CoinCraft chip: 32Ghps @ 0.4J/Gh nominal == 12.8W TDP

CoinTerra chip: 500Ghps @ 0.6J/Gh nominal == 300W TDP

It was clear to me which design faced fewer challenges.
385  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How I can install extra port at Jupiter board on: November 17, 2013, 02:21:11 AM
I really should have taken some pics when I was doing it.

I'll take some the next time I have it apart.
386  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: November 17, 2013, 02:10:54 AM
You can be guaranteed that they will ship before Jan. 1.  Even if it is broken, consumes 10x the power, 1/2 the hash rate, and uses someone else's chips, you will be sure they will ship

Wanna bet?

(No, I've not learned my lesson about those kind of bets yet.)
387  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Help] Avalon Batch 2 Mini strange behaviour on: November 17, 2013, 01:12:09 AM
Do you have the interfaces bridged?

Is the avalon wifi set to AP mode, or is it in client mode and set to connect to some other wifi AP?

Personally I only use ethernet for all my miners, avalons and otherwise.
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 16, 2013, 11:08:21 PM
Place your bets if KNC would agree to sell me an empty aluminium case so I can provide a good home for my Upgrade modules.
What do you think is a fair price?

Bring 50Eur cash and drop on the counter. Should get near wholesale, since it's a hassle free transfer?

Or....  ask for a scratch and dent -- for free,  or 25.

I see a couple there with the front sections bent over.  Try and get one of them.
389  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Monarch update on: November 16, 2013, 10:19:26 PM
If anything, BFL's marketing is good for the rest of us who know better.  BFL keeps new people from mining by holding funds hostage and constantly fucking up their designs.

That's a pretty selfish way to look at it.
390  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL board project COINTAMINATION - EU facility - ORDERS OPENED for Chili on: November 16, 2013, 10:19:17 PM
Are orders in fact still open, or has the PCB quantity been finalized and PCBs produced, with all units spoken-for?

It looks like I may be stuck with another 87 chips now, which of course aren't good for much by themselves.
391  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [BFL CHIPS] Group-Purchase :: 100 Chips ordered 6.16.2013 on: November 16, 2013, 10:03:07 PM
I got a tracking # from BFL a few weeks ago but have not received anything yet. I will call them tomorrow and post back here when I have info.
^ I want that tracking number.
I called BFL asking for both tracking numbers from these shipments this morning, I expect they'll get back to me Monday with them.

You said you received that tracking number well over a month ago.  How is it that you no longer have it?

I can go into my email right now and find the tracking numbers for my shipments from BFL.  They sent me a "Your order has been shipped!" email each time with the tracking number in it.

Today, after much persistence with BFL, they have still refused to give a refund and sent me the chips regardless. I have them in my posession as of this evening
^ The tracking number from that shipment.  It should be printed on the shipping label that was affixed to the box of chips you received.
I never got a tracking number for this shipment, they just showed up without notice and I did not record it from the box. (Do you usually record tracking numbers of received items? I don't, and I apologize if that's something you expected.)

I would have kept the box myself, knowing how things were in dispute like this.

I have been out of the country and the chips have been sent and the tracking numbers have been emailed to the email address you used to place the orders!
^ And that one.
9407 4036 9930 0005 5877 80

That just shows that a label was generated.  The service type, date, and features do match what I would expect.

I still don't understand how an overweight/underpayment situation could have happened given that Priority Mail costs appear to go up in 8 oz increments, and the shipment was 4.02 oz, with the label being electronically generated and paid.

I also want a screenshot of the BFL order page showing the chip order, the shipment date if shown, and any notes, tracking information, or other details shown.
^ And also that screenshot.
I cannot get to the "order details" page, BFL's site just redirects me to the list of orders when I try to click on the link for the details for any one of them. BFL will be able to confirm this because it is their website after all.

Indeed, the BFL website is also broken for me in this way at the moment.

Please keep in mind, I have done my job as per it's description and have resent you the chips in a timely manner after I received them. BFL is aware that you are the recipient of the order and you can do your best to get a refund from them. I actually lost money when selling you those chips, for ~$45 each was it at the current exchange rate at the time?

I will be here to help you figure this situation out, but do not feel that I am obliged to aid you in seeking compensation from BFL's late delivery, so please stop treating the situation as if that is so.

I don't feel like you did your job well.  You let the situation sit for "a few weeks" and did nothing to fix it, you say because you were afraid of Josh.  You also did not inform us participants of this until after the fact.

As for selling the chips at a loss, I can go to http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/ and look up the exchange rate at the time of the BTC-denominated purchase of 55 chips, which was on 04-September-2013 20:58.  The mtgox price looks to be around $135, and the btc-e price about $118.  Having paid 27 BTC for 55 chips, that would be $66.27 or $57.92 per chip.

I don't think we're going to be able to agree on a settlement on our own.  I propose again that we ask John K. if he will judge the matter for us for a fee, and agree to abide by his decision if he agrees to perform the service.
392  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: November 16, 2013, 08:48:38 PM
I'm not a bitfury owner so I haven't been following the thread, but why is it that cgminer doesn't support the hardware?

Is it a closed design or something?
393  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: November 16, 2013, 07:55:55 PM
Last night my bitfury rig stopped mining on us1.ghash.io:3333  Specifically only my worker1 account.

Turns out my worker1 no longer mines on us1.ghash.io:3333.

it mines on nl1.ghash.io:3334[/b]

I ran into that same issue recently trying to mine on btcguild using the MPBM software.

It seems that not all mining software handles the stratum "client reconnect" message, where the pool asks the client to change hosts.

I'm guessing the included ChainMiner software also does not handle that message correctly.

(that's just a guess).
394  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL Monarch update on: November 16, 2013, 07:46:26 PM
Anyone who still gives money to these scammers deserves everything they get, you have been warned! Roll Eyes

What's sad is how a lot of noobs who wanna get into mining aren't going to see these warnings.

All they see are BFLs ads and promises.

cannot recommend the Corsair HX series

Why is that?
396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 16, 2013, 04:34:46 PM
@Phoenix1969: Thanks, but I'm asking about building a new binary from the source, not installing a built binary onto the miner.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 16, 2013, 03:50:00 PM
New cgminer binary based on cgminer 3.8.2 up

http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/kncminer/cgminer

ckolivas, can you outline the procedure for building a new cgminer binary for a KnC BBB from the source?

Last night I tried building one on my regular BBB running Angstrom.  It ran fine on the build host, but would not run on the KnC BBB, saying "file not found".  I think some of the libraries may be different.  Maybe I need to statically link them?
398  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How I can install extra port at Jupiter board on: November 16, 2013, 03:45:12 PM
Maybe I was too condescending in my last post.

The basic steps are:

* Remove the miner top cover.  You will need a Torx T20 bit for the 8 screws.

* Remove the 2 front case fans for access to the control board screws.  Note how the fans plug into the board.  My fans had 3-pin connectors that were forced onto the 4-pin headers.

* Disconnect the module cables from the control board.

* Remove the 4 Torx T10 screws that anchor the control board to the case and remove the control board.

* Support the control board vertically so you can access both sides of it at once.

* For each of the 20 holes you will be installing the new connector pins into, apply the tip of the soldering iron to the solder on one side of the board while holding the solder sucker on the other side.  When the solder melts, trigger the solder sucker.  Inspect the hole, and if it is not clear of solder, repeat until it is.  If it won't melt try switching sides. Some of the holes attach to a big copper plane on the board and will take more time to get hot enough to melt the solder.  I used a cheap 25 watt iron.

* Inspect the board and remove any loose splashes of solder with a fingernail.  No not use too much force.  If one is fused to a solder pad use the iron to melt it.

* Press the new connectors into their positions on the board and solder the pins one at a time, applying the iron and fresh solder to each from the underside of the board.  You may need to hold the connectors in place.

* Inspect the work and make sure all of the solder joints look good, and that there are no solder bridges or splashes of solder where there shouldn't be.

* Assembly is the reverse of disassembly.

I should have taken some photos.

The underside of the control board is autographed by some KnC members, and also has some big tables of hex numbers printed on it that I haven't deciphered.

I have a Saturn so I only have 2 modules to test with.  I plugged them into the 2 new connectors and things seem to be working fine.

I thought getwork-based solo mining didn't work well or at all anymore, and that you needed a stratum proxy of some kind to achieve reasonable efficiency, especially with a large amount of hashpower.
I solo mined alts for 10 minutes one day as an experiment and kept getting "pool is not providing work fast enough" error.

No idea if the same goes for btc solo mining.

Would be interested if anyone has set up stratum proxy for solo mining and how they did it.

I'm pretty sure you need a stratum pool, not a proxy for solo mining:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=162788.0

When I was solo mining TRC with an avalon I set up eloipool to sit in the middle.  I followed jgarzik's guide: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=158105.0

To mine on a network other than Bitcoin mainnet I had to change some "magic numbers" in the eloipool config: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=162765.msg1711931#msg1711931

I tried to use the same setup for solo-mining PPC, but it didn't work for some reason.  I guess something is a little too different about it.

I just noticed they're now offering a "little" version of the Monarch:
