So what happens if you buy one that is "carded"?

I've bought some WM codes below face value a few times.  So far they've worked fine.

9.1 BTC for the Icarus.
944  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DIY PCB with AVALON - [OP Makeover - Forming List of Developers] on: April 22, 2013, 09:35:34 AM
I'm interested in being a part of this effort.

I also want to make and populate my own boards, but I'm something of a noob when it comes to SMT.  I've done some SMT repairs with an iron, but I've never made or populated a board.  I'm looking at what gear to buy to be able to do this.

Would a cheap small reflow oven like this one be OK?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400325274614

Reading about IR reflow on wikipedia, they say "With infrared reflow, the board designer must lay the board out so that short components don't fall into the shadows of tall components."

In theory I've got a Little Single and 2 Jalapeņos coming.  But I ordered them in February, so I'm not counting on seeing them anytime soon.

I guess now since they've reduced the hashrate that may turn into 3 Jalapeņos.

My original plan was to take them apart right away and see if I could mod the Jalapeņos to do 7.5GH/s, but now that their design has substantially changed, I'm not counting on that being possible any longer.  I guess I may have to just mine with them.

Edit: Maybe such a thing would still be possible.  If a Little Single now has 8 chips as I imagine, it's turning 3.125GH/s per chip (or 3.5GH/s per if it's running as fast as Luke-Jr's).  If a Jalapeņo now has 2 chips, I suppose it could potentially reach 7GH/s.

Congrats.

When do you plan to take your baby home, or is its home destined to be a BFL or EclipseMC data center?
947  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 490,000 Avalon chips already ordered - 150T hashrate spike coming in August on: April 21, 2013, 06:44:52 PM
The TeraHash issue is going to be pretty insignificant compared to a sudden future closure of MtGox by one or more governments.

Agreed that the centralized exchanges (MTGox in particular) are a huge weak point in the current economy.

We've seen trouble manifest time and again when a major exchange has a major problem, yet the situation hasn't changed much (yet).

Oh, this gets interesting. I didn't expect this amount of sales in such a short timewindow.

How many purchasers do you think are speculators just hoping to resell their in-hand chips at a markup?

Considering the max order is 200,000 chips, I feel at the moment it doesn't seem likely they will "sell-out" and turn into a mark-up situation.

I'm saying that the value of the mark-up will come from having them in-hand for immediate shipment vs ordering from the Avalon store and waiting on production.

950  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: When will Butterfly Labs (BFL) run out of money? on: April 21, 2013, 03:49:10 PM
To be honest I am surprised they even got that far as producing two of their low end products. Might have been assembled with a skillet and toaster oven technique... At this rate.. oh well.  Roll Eyes

That red triple-headed power cable looks familiar.
952  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASIC consultant needed on: April 20, 2013, 11:55:13 PM
You might see if cablepair can offer any advice on what not to do, especially when it comes to contracting out the work and managing that effort.

Also, I'll bet members 2112 and hardcore-fs could provide some good technical input.

Pics of the Ztexes?
954  Economy / Auctions / Re: (WTS) Icarus FPGA Miner and 4 Ztex 1.15x boards on: April 20, 2013, 08:46:36 PM
Auction ends monday 22.4.2013 (april) 2200 local time in Switzerland.

So that's 20:00 UTC, correct?
955  Economy / Auctions / Re: (WTS) Icarus FPGA Miner and 4 Ztex 1.15x boards on: April 20, 2013, 08:41:53 PM
Question: Will you ship the Icarus directly to Mr Chen on the buyer's behalf, with a note from the buyer enclosed?

Bro Jody is like 80 going on to death, you think bitch knows anything about technology lol.

Is she the one we've seen holding the epic-sized soldering iron (or is it a hot-air gun?)

957  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Buying BFL debt. $0.10 per dollar owed. on: April 20, 2013, 05:22:46 PM
I guarantee you BFL will deliver.

You do, eh?

Would you care to back that up with an insurance policy?

Say I pay you $0.10 on the dollar to insure my BFL order.  Then, if they fail to deliver, you repay me the full dollar-value of my BFL order.

Say, with a delivery deadline of December 31 2013, to be generous.
958  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 2nd batch order problem on: April 20, 2013, 03:52:18 PM
Same here, though I did also get an email confirmation from Avalon some time after my order was placed, showing an order number (#1049), and my shipping address.  I responded that the address needed revising, and a new email arrived shortly showing the updated address.

It sounds like my order is in their system, but is not associated with my store account.

In the 15-April newsletter, Yifu says:

we are in also the process of merging many earlier problematic orders, if your order still does not show up in the store by Friday of the 19th please open another ticket.

I opened support ticket #706 about it yesterday.  No response yet.
959  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon Asic] trade-in Thread on: April 20, 2013, 03:22:38 PM
Awesome.  Grin

I used USPS click-n-ship to generate the 4-copy shipping label/customs declaration for "Express Mail International" service.  That goes in the special 2976-E Customs pouch that gets stuck onto the side of the package.

I declared them as Returned Merchandise with a $60 value each, as "Development board for RMA".

I also stuck a few white "Icarus/Lancelot RMA" labels on the outside of the box.
960  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Avalon Asic] trade-in Thread on: April 20, 2013, 03:16:07 PM
I'm hoping my EMS shipments go better.  I declared them as RMA/Returned Merchandise.

Tracking now shows Delivered in China a couple hours ago.  I guess EMS worked out OK.

Gotta keep an eye on my email now...

Edit: Those were probably my boxes that you saw.  Did they have white labels on the sides saying "Icarus/Lancelot RMA", and one was an Antec box?
