This could be a serious problem for Western Union.....

Western what?

A very expensive and a shitty service to transfer funds.

I don't want to get into a stone throwing competition but...

These fees aren't exactly inexpensive for purchasing the corn.  While it's always not stated in the coinATMradar.com summary, many machines also charge flat fees.  Close to me, I can pay flat fees of 3 to 15 dollars on top of the exchange rates of 8.5% to 18%.  On top of that, if I don't want to let it scan my ID, I am limited in some cases to $200 max transaction.  Bitcoin is awesome but bitcoin ATMs have some catching up to do.
If I don't get paid in bitcoin and need to convert before sending the coin to my family, I'm going to be gouged at an ATM.

Using Moneygram to send $200US for cash pick up to my mother in El Salvador, it costs me $4.99US - it's neither shitty nor expensive.
Using Western Union to send $200US for cash pick up to my sister in El Salvador, it costs me $11.00US and if that seems like a lot, consider any of the conversion scenarios at my local ATMs (above)

The money gougers are adapting - time for bitcoin ATMs to do the same.

Laser focus booster mod.  Go bitcoin!

1803  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 09, 2021, 02:11:40 PM

You see it don't you? Not everyone does.  I figure MOST of us WO folks do...  Crazy.  We are STILL so early.

It's about to get so crazy.

El Salvador has volunteered to be the first country to go live in PRODUCTION with the lightning network.  They will be richly rewarded for this.

I think those laser eyes are so silly...  But I almost want to put them on all my images now.

There's nothing silly about a 100k bitcoin though Smiley

any statement from proudhon when he will move to El Salvador?

Maybe I'm already there, er, I mean, here.

you must be an early riser, right?

https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/el-salvador

Had to get up early to get some work done.

That looks like bullish news if he's actually there (or considering going there.)

Confirmed sources indicate that proudhon is the president of El Salvador.

Watch it in case you have any doubts about the future of Bitcoin. Worrying about the ticker price can sometimes almost be embarrassing. Bitcoin is hope.

Edit:

The US and Canada enforces capital gains tax on currency transactions so it doesn't make a difference in my case unless the net gain (or loss) is less than $200... I can't live on that!

Not a legal advise, but the way i read it, it's $200 capital gain per transaction. So if you you buy a $7 coffee in the morning, have a $40 lunch, and then pay $100 for a dinner, and then hit up few bars not spending over $200 in each, all of it shouldn't be taxable.

Quote from: IRC Sec 988(e)(2)(B)
such transaction is a personal transaction,
no gain shall be recognized for purposes of this subtitle by reason of changes in exchange rates after such currency was acquired by such individual and before such disposition. The preceding sentence shall not apply if the gain which would otherwise be recognized on the transaction exceeds $200.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/988

Wow!  I find it hard to believe the US gov't would allow so much potentially unpaid taxes on the table.

The way I understand the wording in the guidance provided by the Canadian gov't, it would be on all transactions.  I'm not a pharmacist though so it's possible I have misinterpreted it.

from canada.ca - the gov't of Canada website:

Foreign exchange gains or losses from capital transactions of foreign currencies (that is, money) are considered to be capital gains or losses. However, you only have to report the amount of your net gain or loss for the year that is more than $200. If the net amount is $200 or less, there is no capital gain or loss and you do not have to report it on your income tax and benefit return.

Think the El Salvador news is one of the most fundamentally bullish news we had in quite a while. So testing my new hat (a Homer original) since no doubt in my mind we will now reach $100k and beyond (and Bitcoin has to do exactly nothing for that to happen).

"But the coolest thing is none of that matters at all. Bitcoin does not give a shit if you are rooting for it, or not."

Probably the most important takeaways from any bitcoin conference.
Well I'm sure a lot of folks there were caught up in the emotion and did not see what many of us out here saw vis a vis the near religious frenzy.  I gotta say, It was super polarizing for me, I had thoughts of "I should sell all this. We just jumped the shark" right next to " OMG, this really is the beginning of the hyperbitcoinization dominoes".  Very hard to stay balanced.

But being the contrarian that I am, I also think the crazier the no coiners think we are the more likely it is that this is going to be a success strangely. Because people are going to look back and say - well it was obvious, why didn't I see it? Right now we're in the why didn't I see it stage still.

I'm sure the ability to gather together in quite some time was cause enough for feelings of euphoria.

WASHINGTON, June 5 (Reuters) - The Department of Justice said on Saturday that it would no longer seek source information from reporters in leak investigations after recent revelations that former President Donald Trump’s administration had secretly obtained phone and email records from a number of journalists.

You don't really believe this tripe do you?  It's just politics as usual.  Biden gets some love points for hating on Trump while he did the exact same thing under the Obama administration many more times. Think he's had a change of heart?  I don't.

Which part of "no longer" did you miss?

I guess you do believe that tripe.

I didn't miss any part of "no longer"; those two words provided the incentive for my post.  I'm not questioning your integrity; just the integrity of your government... all governments really.  I don't share your optimism based on one media release from the man who served as VP under one of the worst offenders of press freedoms to hold the position of POTUSA.  In this case, the solution to the problem (limited press freedoms) comes from the same entity that created the problem (the government); therein lies the problem.  Time will tell.

Well maybe I should call you a little c**t - how would that make you feel?

Good?

No.  Shame on you, jay, for even thinking of that horrible concept.
Why, that would absolutely break my heartening. And offend my complex emotion sensibilities.
And my lil selfie would need a safe space.....

 lol!
 Very cool rebuttal song Smiley

i hope and think that we are in agreement here, which is the majority of us here Grin

Actually, when I studied archaeology for a brief period some 18 years ago, we were taught to tell the difference between a skull from a white, aborigine, eskimo and african male, and also the general differences between male and female skulls. We do not look alike.
I know it was just a fun picture, but I was bored and felt like arguing.

It has been a very good day for me, I have been feeling grate, for no apparent reason, and my almost 30 year old car passed inspection with no remarks. Next inspection in two years.
Good night you all.

Brilliant! JJG's philosophy in one sentence!  Grin

Actually, that's not a complete sentence; it's a coordinating conjunction followed by an independent clause.  That stipulation, I believe, gives a more refined version of JayJuanGee philosophy.

And you should do the same! I don't care what/when/if he posted and it feels so good! No more FUD, I'm behaving like this guy doesn't exist and it feels awesome. Everything is nice, the vibe is cool and relax.

You should all do the same and you will see that HODLing is wonderful!
