1882  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-04-23 The Schlichter Files - Could Bitcoin be the money of the future? on: April 23, 2013, 01:53:10 PM
yeah I usually also argue that for now it's a digital commodity or barter good, limited in amount (through cryptographic means), used in a global potentially anonymous value transfer system.

For now it more resembles a share or asset, but as it stabilizes in value, the regression theorem will apply and it will finally become a real currency, as the creators intended.
1883  Economy / Economics / Re: Energy consumption could become an issue if bitcoin really breaks through on: April 23, 2013, 09:05:00 AM
Other than that, if OP doesn't know yet, there's also the "proof of stack" approach that doesn't require this kind of processing (but may have other problems). Or the "centrally issued and web of trust for consensus and less privacy" model that ripple.com uses for their XRPs.

I've been thinking for a while maybe it's possible to build fridges and air conditioners in a way that they need generated heat (for the compressors, or maybe some other idea) that could come from electricity spent for mining.
1885  Other / Off-topic / Re: Hangover Cure on: April 22, 2013, 05:51:58 PM
drink a big bottle of water (1 liter at least) with one lemon squeezed in, optionally sweetened

if you manage to do that before you go to bed, you won't feel any hangover the next day. But also helps when hangover is already there.

it rather seems to me he named himself after some online dice game
1887  Economy / Economics / Re: Interest and Bitcoin - Impossible? on: April 22, 2013, 07:38:05 AM
Risk premium, a well understood concept that is NOT interest and has been recognized for millennium to be distinct, in the Islamic tradition it is explicitly recognized to be legitimate and not usury.

I think the misunderstanding here is that they should not be distinct, most of the the Austrian School explicitly say that. Time preference also derives from that.

You may define "usury" as "socialism for the rich": If they don't have to take on the appropriate risk for their investments, you have to look at how they're doing it. Mostly the construct is political.

Keine Sorge, im Englischen sind die Kommata kein Dezimal-, sondern Tausendertrennzeichen.  Cool
1889  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Prof. Jeffrey Sachs reams Wall Street Banking on: April 21, 2013, 11:13:34 PM

This...
Economics is the science of housekeeping of scarce resources. A non-resource based economy is an oxymoron.
... is an example of the brainwashing.

nah, it's just an example of nitpicking and hairsplitting.

It's true, as long as we're on this planet, we can't spend more resources than it has. The question is the manner in which we do so, if it's good for the ecology and climate of this planet, if it benefits the many or the few. What Peter Joseph really means is a CRBE: a controlled resource based economy. Controlled especially about the harvesting part, so that it would stay in "harmony" with the eco-system of this planet. We are to "household" with this planet's resources. Yes, he's nebulous about it, and there's no satisfying answer to the question who controls the controllers.

In the meantime bitcoinity looks cool even if not very helpful, kindly pointing to an ancient bid price Wink

1891  Economy / Economics / Re: My bank account's got robbed by European Commission. Over 700k is lost. on: April 21, 2013, 07:36:26 PM
If product / service and labour markets are flexible this isn't a problem and you don't need transfer payments. Bitcoin will have a completely fixed money supply, so if you want socialism and transfer payments, you'd better support something else.

I was not speaking on the basis of what *I* want or don't want, but rather on the basis of the status quo of the current political scenario as-is.

1893  Economy / Economics / Re: Availability of basic needs such as energy and food via Bitcoins on: April 21, 2013, 05:59:50 PM
not even sure if Bitcoin is made for these things.

makes sense for a local economy and local currencies to build upon food and basic needs first.

Bitcoin is an internet currency. So you may say it'll start with the basic needs of the internet.

Then eventually it will trickle into the real world.  Smiley

ripple nimmt überhaupt niemandem irgendwas weg.

es is viel mehr so, dass mtgox und andere sich als gateway für ripple bereitstellen können.

1899  Economy / Economics / Re: My bank account's got robbed by European Commission. Over 700k is lost. on: April 21, 2013, 11:48:20 AM
After Germany was unified, there were enormous structural differences, but the same currency D-Mark was used.

Normally differently valued currencies would reflect such structural differences.

But if you have the same currency and same political system, what happened was there were transfer payments between the federal subdivisions.

These transfer payments still happen today in Germany as we have the EUR.

But they don't happen between the countries of the EU, because they're not unified politically.

The real scandal is that whoever ordered currency unification without political unification must have seen that this would lead to conflict that would rather separate than unify the people in the EU.

Negligence or agenda? You decide.

Schon mal danke! Smiley

dann brauchen wir wohl wie drüben zusätzlich

* einen "Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker" Thread
* einen "Wall Observer Observer - MtgGoxUSD wall movement tracker tracker" Thread
* einen "Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore" Thread
* einen "Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Softcore lounge" Thread
