Anyone that can manage the time out of life to hang out here and post all day is already rich. Smiley

Absolutely.

Bitcoin (and other money) and material goodies are nice but real wealth is our health, freedom, friends and family.

Having all of the above really rocks though.

Money doesn't buy everything, but what it doesn't buy is easier to get if you do have money.

Everyone is saying by 2023 we will be rich.

We will be rich by 2021. By 2023 we will be filthy rich.  Cool

Nobody knows what will happen

Yes we do !

Of course we do.

But what if we're already rich?

Happy halfling!

Cheers!

Happy halving Bitcoinland.

I realize there's probably no immediate effect on the price but that will come.

It's kinda like the vernal equinox.

It may still be freezing cold with snow on the ground, but the days are longer than the nights and after a lot of rain and the occasional late snowstorm soon the flowers will be blooming and heat of summer will follow.

Feels good.

If there are only half as many Bitcoin wallets after today, does that mean everyone's wallet has twice as many coins in it?

What if your wallet isn't big enough to hold all the extra coins? Will all the coins spill out and be lost? Won't that make all the other coins worth more?

Maybe that's what all the excitement's about.
1927  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 11, 2020, 03:07:26 PM
What's that havling everyone is talking about?

if you have a wallet with x bitcoin in it after today it will only have x/2

this was all hardcoded in by Satoshi at the genesis block to promote decentralization by preventing whales from getting too big

Is that a block mined by the Genesis cloudmining company?
1928  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 11, 2020, 02:55:31 PM
What are we getting so excited over? The big price explosion won't likely happen until next year. This is not some huge unexpected event, we have known about it literally since bitcoin was created. What's with the hype?

It's fun.
Okay boomer but why?

Watching clueless millennials trying to read something into it.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

It's halving day and the pre-halving volatility continues... up over $9k and back down again... currently $8923USD/$12490CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

We await with eager anticipation.

Anyone following the halving trend knows Bitcoin takes a dip early halving cycle. $10k was also obvious resistance for the perfect drop.

Bitcoin has only had two halvings. There was no dip early in the first halving cycle, unless you count the crash from the first of the 2 great bubbles of 2013. There was a tiny dip a full month before the November 28, 2012 halving but I think that was too early to include.

Yes there was a dip 3 weeks after the 2016 halving, but was that necessarily halving-related or just a typical summer dip?

In the first few months following the 2012 halving the price soared up. In the first few months following the 2016 halving the price dipped.

There is no clear historical pattern. Anything can happen and probably will.
1931  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 10, 2020, 07:04:24 PM
Don't believe this has anything to do with weak hands. This is pure manipulation. They need to be able to downplay and smudge BTC in the MSM tomorrow, in order to prevent the general public from buying BTC in masses which would skyrocket the price and undermine conventional currency.

The manipulators aren't the weak hands. They're mostly selling to themselves.

It's the retail speculators that sold during the drop that are the weak hands.

The smart ones are the ones who bought the scraps that fell of the manipulators' plates as they fed off the weaklings.

Actually the really smart ones are the ones feasting at their own well-stocked tables, not giving a phuk.

Observing $8,370

Don’t know why people are selling but weak hands gon’ be weak.

I think you just answered your own question.

Good morn Bitcoinland.
Eight seven eight one dollars
(Bitcoinaverage).

Now we're right back to
Where we were five days ago.
Oh no! Bitcoin's dead!

Fuck... it's snowing here.

Too bad we can't send climate around the world as easily as bitcoins.

I'd gladly send you 18 degrees celsius. The heat here is oppressive.
1936  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 09, 2020, 02:03:35 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Seems we're having a bit of trouble staying in 5 digits... currently $9734USD/$13645CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Meanwhile the halving is only a couple of days away.

Go Bitcoin go.

There's the problem. $100 a week are $400 a month. You can perfectly feed yourself and even cover some (if not all) of the basic survival needs with that amount. Yet people do decide to go ahead with that and then they need someone else to feed them? No, that is indeed BAD.

You (should) only use credit to SAVE (ie: to own a property instead of renting for the same monthly amount or even lower) not to SPEND more. Doing otherwise is nuts and usually the reason why people with a more than healthy income are constantly in the verge of bankruptcy.

I say you should only use credit to earn money, not to spend it.

Borrowing to spend on unnecessary luxuries like cars and phones is silly unless they are essential tools for earning money. Even then there are usually cheaper options that don't require borrowing.

Of course most people have been brainwashed by lifelong propaganda:

student loan, diploma, employee job, credit card, car payments, mortgage, overtime (or 2nd job), overpriced holiday package, designer clothing, etc.

They think borrowing and buying is the normal thing to do.

Welcome back $10.000!

The road to $100.000 early retirement is on.

Have a nice weekend WO. Smiley

In the words of Prince Buster:

It's good to be wise when you're young
'cause you can only be young but the once
Enjoy yourself and have lots of fun
So glad and live life longer than you've ever done

Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink
The years go by, as quickly as you wink
Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think and have another drink.
1938  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2020, 02:23:19 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Nice to see we haven't had too big of a correction after breaching $10k, just the usual minor profit taking... currently $9940USD/$13870CAD (Bitcoinaverage).
_____

3 more days to the halving. Saying the halving is a non-event is like saying pregnancy is a non-event at the moment of conception. There's a gestation period.

The first few months nothing is noticeable. Then the bulge starts to show. Then it gets enormous. Then labor starts. That's when we start posting images of trains, rockets, and violins.

Eventually an ATH is born and there's great joy. Unfortunately that's when it turns to shit... literally. Diapers (nappies?) have to be changed. Sleep patterns are disrupted. Post-partum depression sets in. Bitcoin winter.

Then we do it all again 4 years later.
1939  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 08, 2020, 01:25:49 AM
I use bitcoinaverage. Just seems sensible to use something like that.

You may have noticed that I use Bitcoinaverage in my morning greetings. I feel that an index of multiple exchanges gives a much more accurate price than any individual exchange and no index uses more exchanges worldwide than Bitcoinaverage. It's weighted by volume omitting no-fee exchange volumes.

It's also the price basis for the vast majority of Bitcoin ATMs, at least in Toronto. This is real world pricing.

As for using an individual exchange, Bitstamp is the obvious choice. No shenanegans, just honest trades. My main OTC connection in Toronto uses Stamp, presumably to maintain fiat/Bitcoin balance via their API. It's the exchange of pros.

Missed the crossing of the $10k line because I was out getting some fresh air after it cooled down to livable around here. Being stuck inside with air conditioning is almost as bad as quarantine.

It's nice to see the Great Spring of 2020 Beartrap snap shut and the ongoing bull trend continue. We're only a few hundred dollars from an AYH.

Go Bitcoin go.
