2048  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to destroy Monero (XMR)? on: September 08, 2014, 02:40:33 PM

Fair launch. It is just so precious. And never before happened as well. So that the largest holders are not there by accident (or more likely planning by the dev), but because they wanted to buy a crappy coin at a high price. Monero's history is special.

I can only say that if something should happen, but has not yet happened, there is a good chance that it will happen.

I want to say this with as much respect as possible.  But how many alt coins have you been involved with?  How many have you seriously taken a close look at?  I've seen you saying you have had no use for alt coins until Monero which leads me to believe you never took a serious look at previous alt coins.

I want to say this with as much respect as possible. Show me a coin where the dev holds less than 1% of the coins in circulation.

Of course I respect the devs, but I have to say that equally important is that the devs respect the whales. The whales make the economy. Economy is the reason why the coin exists. I can support Monero without even having a functioning wallet (wrong OS), because the distribution of coins is right.

Disagreed: Whales don't "make" the economy. If they were to, the whole economy would be a cartel, or at best a club.

Whales (if clever enough) just profit the most from a working economy. Don't forget "with great whale comes great responsibility"--

That devs hold >=1% of the currency is probably due to accessibility (first-come first-served) and economic thinking paired with an emotional attachment (love your growing child).

Whales = passive, developer = active:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Graham

Quote from: Warren Buffett's mentor
Graham distinguished between the passive and the active investor. The passive investor, often referred to as a defensive investor, invests cautiously, looks for value stocks, and buys for the long term. The active investor, on the other hand, is one who has more time, interest, and possibly more specialized knowledge to seek out exceptional buys in the market.

What is the developers opinion on scripting on the blockchain (Turing complete a la Ethereum)?
I would appreciate some feedback on this...

I've noticed a 0.9BTC willy bot at bitstamp. It's there for some days/weeks
It both buys and sells depending on the market

I think that you saw the 'red' in bitcoinwisdom trade history? There is a 'glitch': sometimes market buy orders are red, sometimes market sell orders are green in that list.
Maybe I am not sure - and I had the impression that sometimes what I see is weird at wisdom, so this might explain it.

I have some sliver coins got stolen. Please teach me how I could recover them.
You go to the police and hope that they can catch the thief and get your coins back.
So just do the same in case your bitcoin is stolen.
Do you know of any case?

If they could catch DPR and seize his bitcoin I can't see why it is fundamentally impossible to catch a bitocin thief.
The case is that they have revalved the true location of servers quite easily (FBI) even without needing NSA or however they are called, i did read it today.
And fake IDs addressed to DPR got catched by customs.

How do you know it was captcha for sure?

Was reading last pages in rpietila alt coin observer.

This is sad to see two-faced people who ask for help when they in troubles and spread slander and lie when troubles is over. This behavior expose their moral standards.

I doubt that i'll ever again will care for helping.

Was looking through the last 2 pages, but couldn't see a developer posting about you or BBR. Which posts are you referring to?

It was a few pages back. It was some people talking about the rethink-your-strategy allegations. I commented as well and apparently caused offense, but I said there and I'll say here that we don't know the truth of those allegations or the larger context. So it is all speculation and should not be taken too seriously.

We should ask adamstgBit to start a new thread  Tongue

This is the third major wall on bit stamp alone in ~10 days, totaling about 7000btc.

Include bitfenix and its more than double that.

Yet we still have people saying moon.
On the other hand someone very patiently eats them...
