With Bitcoin you are the boss! That not only means you are in charge, but that you must work. Bitcoin security is no better than your security. If used correctly it is miles above the bank's security system. However if you do not protect your private key then no other methods matter.  

I don't know how this happened to you, but someone must have gotten that key. Consider who else has access to your computer. Think about where you store your private key. This breach may not involve malware at all. Also, Think about a more secure OS like Linux.

You are asking the right questions.

Choosing the right wallet is an important decision. With most of the options you are trading between convenience and security. The safest way is to download the whole blockchain and run a full wallet like bitcoin core. Then do an offline transfer to a cold paper wallet. But is that overkill for $400? It would mean constantly syncing the wallet and it would be a bit of a hassle to spend.
For a spending wallet I like to use my smartphone and I keep no more than the value of the phone on it. It is less secure, but super easy to spend. Just scan the QR code and hit send! For any wallet the key concept is WHO HAS ACCESS TO THE PRIVATE KEYS?. It could be shared, or out of your control, or totally under your control. If you do not have control of the private keys then you do not have bitcoin. Make sure you have this with your wallet choice (IMO).

As far as what to do with bitcoin... For me it is the ONLY money I now use online. I can find almost anything for sale in BTC. For the rest I use the Gyft app and just quickly buy a gift code. You might be surprised how many places now take them.

Since you are new to this here is a tip. Despite the constant stream of guesses about future price. No one knows anything more than you do about what will happen. You can broadly guess that the price will rise or fall, but you are just guessing. The people who I know who have done well with bitcoin do their own homework and never ask someone about the price. That is just hope.
If only it were as simple as asking the right person.  

I would be happy finishing 2016 at $600. That would still be more growth than any other item in my portfolio. In fact, I can't think of anything likely to almost double in a year.

That makes no sense. I think you should sharpen your razor. And the footage does not belong to RT, They obviously did not shoot it. Why not just send an email to the show and ask where they got it?

I'm not really into alts but I think they have a side benefit. All the people who created alts must have learned a lot about bitcoin in the process. They may help write the next generation of crypto code

The only problem is that not a single one of those companies said they were distancing themselves from bitcoin. Though one person said they consider bitcoin just their first use case. Another new coin news website trying to get hits by posting shocking titles. 

I believe it is publicly available once it has been published in the news. It's not like they are reporting something false or trying to hide something. The U.S. is bombing oil trucks and anyone can see the Cyrillic lettering.

I have yet to lose a Satoshi and your money is safer with bitcoin not less safe. For whatever reason there seems to be an endless line of suckers who think "Double my money in two days!!! What could go wrong?" Or thinking that they should buy with PayPal after a million warnings.

I write that stuff for an actual new user who sees this and thinks that is how it's done. I could guess that Kuna was not so ignorant as to expect 64k in BTC from a stranger. It would be an epic thread if someone did loan him the money! 

So the video was a Russian plane and the announcer was talking about U.S. planes?  Well, ok. They could have shown footage of a U.S. plane instead. My guess is that the producer wanted video of oil trucks blowing up and used this stock media. It's not good journalism to do that, however it's done frequently. They should have mentioned that this was shot by Russian planes on a similar mission.

I don't know what you mean that it is against the rules here? It (DOXING) does not even have a specific meaning. It may be done for stupid or mean reasons, but i see no rule against it.

I was told they lost their TOWs when they threatened to use them against Turkey. There was also concern about using them against Russian targets. A lot of the rebel groups are complaining that Russia is only bombing moderate groups on the road to Aleppo. Increasingly they want to attack Russian interests.

If I were advising the Russian forces I would do the same. Why attack DAESH when plenty of other forces are already doing that? Besides, sharing the same battlespace with other forces is dangerous and could lead to an unwanted exchange. 

But here is a nasty problem that all the air powers share. The lack of targets. Both western and SAA aligned warplanes boast about how many DAESH oil tankers they have destroyed. However they are not DAESH oil tankers. I spoke with some of the drivers of these oil trucks earlier in the year. The ones I met with were transporting Syrian oil by way of Iraq. These guys were smugglers, not terrorists. They buy the oil from a guy who bought it from another guy who bought it from DAESH. This is why the US starts it's attacks by dropping leaflets that say "Get away from your trucks, they are about to be destroyed." Then they strafe the area nearby as a last warning. Then they let them have it.
The trucks were the last easy targets and it gets tougher now.

In my defense I thought he might be tricking me with an unusual private key.

I ignore "news" from any bitcoin / altcoin website. They need traffic for add revenue and know that posting nonsense about bans generates hits. There is nothing in that article about a ban. It's just paranoid speculation that terror will be a pretext for shutting down bitcoin.

I think the problem is that Turkey is in this for Turkey, America is in it for America. The Peshmerga are fighting for Kurdistan, the Russians and SAA are fighting for the Syrian state, DAESH is fighting for the Caliphate, Nusra is fighting for Al-Queada, the U.S. and moderate rebels are fighting for a new Syrian state. The Gulf states, Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and others are fighting a proxy war between Shia and Suni factions. It's a mess.
