Didn't research baseball and I'll tell you why. I did for a season or two (3 seasons ago anyway) try reading as much as possible about baseball in MLB. That was club baseball of course, and I suppose a very different animal, but it was impossible to tell which team would win, almost a coinflip from game to game, with such a big roster of players and just so many games happening, it's almost as if you rely on extreme outcomes to win a game... and then you'd see a team smash one team, then lose another just as badly.

Now this tourney's different -- odds are quite extreme on the underdogs (relative to what I'd seen anyway in MLB).

So I feel like one upset is enough, but I have a feeling, if it's anything like club baseball... we'll see 3 wins in these 7 games.

I note famososMuertos has a score wrongly recorded in the sheet btw Wink
2223  Economy / Economics / Re: The cost of living is trying to kill the living on: March 08, 2023, 04:00:35 PM
It's not trying to kill the living, it's to keep the poor and middle class alive but as close to desperation as possible.

Been struggling with inflation here where I am, already, but at least it's still doable. As in, if it used to cost let's say 10% of monthly wage for a week's groceries (and that's almost luxurious), price doubling is 20%, but cutting down on luxury I can already minimise it to 15% of monthly. That's about 60% just on groceries, but I support a big family so it's actually all right.

Back home, for most of my family, it's far worse. Already living on minimum means, price doubling means people already are out of means.

Meanwhile, companies are posting more profits. I'm not saying Bitcoin's the sole solution, but it's a pretty good start.

2224  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Adoption To Grow 50% By 2025, This Report Claims on: March 08, 2023, 01:53:13 PM
Point already mentioned above re CBDC or even blockchain tech. Not the same thing as Bitcoin adoption, if anything, farther away especially with private blockchains Wink

Re the report, still trying to figure out what adoption means there. I'm not going to go super pedantic anyway (owning keys, since mass adoption will most likely mean people shouldn't figure out how to be sole owners or access to their crypto) but I do think that at the very least, the apps people use to "buy/own" crypto should at least interact with the blockchain. Not true with most apps I know people use (broker apps, no actual wallet).

Anyone else think PSG are great value? I thought the same about BVB last night, so oops. Spurs/Milan game, never touching that!

Am I really bad at thinking, or is there an opportunity to bet with a guaranteed profit (on sportsbet) right now?

Draw or Borussia Dortmund 2.10
To Qualify Chelsea FC          2.00

Can anyone tell me where I'm wrong? How can a bookmaker make such a big mistake? Obviously these are opposite outcomes and they add up to the full sum of the possible outcomes.

If Chelsea won by a 1 goal margin, then they would be level on aggregate, so would need to proceed to go to extra time/penalties. Then you'd lose the first bet. Then if BVB progress after ET/penalties, you lose the second bet. So no, bookie didn't make any mistake there Wink
2227  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Conference League Discussion Thread -- 2022/23 | Group Stages on: March 07, 2023, 08:22:46 PM
Lazio is opening this Conference league round, playing against AZ today

there is several good games on Thursday, but no easy home wins IMO
Basel against Slovan should be a home win, Villareal has a test against Anderlecht, Gent and Fiorentina are playing against Turkish teams at home, West Ham going to Cyprus

Thank you Lazio for ruining my week so fast.

This is the team that finally broke Napoli. Hail Sarri. Hail the attack, should have been such an easy pick, and I thought nothing about adding them to my acca.

They did pepper Dutch's goal with attempts, but surprisingly allowed the weaker team to muscle them off the ball too much.

Note to self: stick to upsets.

Do I recall correctly cryptofrka is headed there?

Yup. I hoped for a different kind of game though Grin
Anyway - I'll use this opportunity to check out the city and the Bernabeu, I don't have any real expectations of us doing anything meaningful there.

Real is in a bit of a rough patch but they are a mega team, no way that they are dropping this.

30/1 was as high as odds got for Liverpool to qualify, I only managed 24/1 because I took it as soon as we lost at Anfield haha... but odds are now back to a "Reasonable" 22/1.

I still put us in for a win on a couple of accas, almost 3/1 seems value. It's too much to expect but if we can count on another fast attack, and hopefully learn a lesson about asking Trent to guard Vini... Klopp is usually stubborn about that so yeah, maybe we need that formation to get goals but if we somehow get 2 first, then we need to switch flanks or even go completely broad behind.

Enjoy!

Watched Brentford yesterday and I must say I was very impressed with the way they play when they are not leading. They were destroying Fulham until they scored first goal, then they just stopped until Fulham got back to even terms. Then again they were much better when they needed to attack. I am not watching them often but based on this one game I feel like they would do much better if they tried to adopt big club mentality and played for goals all the time.
seeing that often with Everton, having good play during 60-70 minutes, and last 20 minutes as different team on the pitch, hardly running at all

Newcastle and Everton I noticed the most. Dyche is even more of that mentality and they powered the whole first game under him (and won) but they didn't even last 45 minutes vs Liverpool.

It does feel like Championship mentality, no better demonstrated than by Leeds...
2229  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: EFL English Championship League 2022/2023 on: March 07, 2023, 05:38:17 PM
I opted to skip Blades even though I'm confident of them winning. Funny that just because odds aren't 2/1 I'm ignoring them. Would normally add a leg or two from these games to accas I got, but let's just say I'm giving this week's games a purge from my system (but to be fair, it's really because of European cups!).

I do think over 2 goals on all three games are a solid acca though...
2230  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🦊 Betnomi.com | Champions League Pool ⚽️ Discussion Thread on: March 07, 2023, 04:03:33 PM
BVB here too, and the odds are good enough for me to also bet on them. It's my only acca, very minor, but 5/1 should be enough to keep my pulse racing for this game.

If you have one to give away, I will gladly accept it, even if it means paying the shipping fees so I can finally get rid of trust wallet. Because the bull run is approaching, I need to ship my 1.2m BTC to a more secure location.

Hehe no worries! I will give my Ledger raffle win to you then. It's fine for me. Congrats, you're officially a winner now, haha!  Smiley

Good on you bullrun, and yeah Ige, show a nice photo.

I'm shipping the ledger, so shoot me a PM with your name and postal address. You might get a customs request from the handler... but I'll leave it to you (I had to pay that too haha).

I even still have a bookmark folder of all the things I'd need to check on daily, weekly.

Plenty of bitcointalk bookmarks too. How to consolidate satoshis, how to do this, and that.

90% of the links don't work anymore. Or are just defunct pages.

I forgot MD26 actually, but that's just me being so busy I couldn't even remember to do a whole slew of other things. Salah + Toney scored, probably the only pick I'd have entered right anyway, so no loss.

For a change, won't my "Majestic" selection for MD27, which has Utd, City, Liverpool so all the usual suspects help. I'll let in that I took out Salah as my usual Wink
2233  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: EFL English Championship League 2022/2023 on: March 06, 2023, 07:41:34 PM
I played only one ticket mix for this weekend and I lost my bet, but I didn't have much time for posting my predictions in forum.
Burnley slowed down and didn't win against Blackpool, something I didn't expect, but they missed so many chances and they dominated the game.
Middlesbrough was on my ticket and they easily won, they are now very close to take over second place from Sheffield Utd, but let's see what happens in nextfew rounds.

@buwaytress you were right to skip wagering and Burnley definitely looks like that they’ll win the promotion race this season, and I too won’t be surprised if they decide to use the option to buy him. @notblox1 you definitely picked a winning team but I guess it just wasn’t Burnley’s lucky day because they definitely deserved to win but in the end they failed to seal all the points, however I’m glad that at least you won your wager on Middlesbrough.

Yeah, smart not to lose money, did lose out on other predictions (BSFL comes to mind) but for once, a week where my biggest money is either won or still alive on accas, largely thanks to Liverpool.

Burnley will still ensure Kompany has a triumphant return to the big league, but Blades has been making me pay dearly for banking on them.

Hopefully the next round when I go back to spamming them they remember they are top of the league.

I can hear, Klopp in the changing room, shouting "WE MADE 6 GOALS IN ONE HALF, WE CAN COMEBACK IN MADRID, LETS MAKE HISTORY AGAIN BOYS"

At the same time, he goggles his eyes and grinds his teeth  Grin I see this picture perfectly too, but in fact, after 2-0 turned into 2-5, it seems to me that Klopp, if he will psychologically put pressure on the players, is only before the game itself. If you do it now, they will simply burn out before they enter the field. And I think everyone understands the difference between United and Real Madrid.

Yeah I always feel like Klopp sets the tone for an entire game. I don't think he does things during the half-time break as well as he does in the build up. I want Bobby to shine, to burn bright and majestic on his Liverpool swansong. I want Salah to exorcise his Real demons. I want it all.

Do I recall correctly cryptofrka is headed there?

Remember our jibes just one, two days ago? About wiping the floor with United etc.
Right, although I have a funny feeling we'd actually beat them, the wiping the floor comment from me was definitely a joke, but maybe I need to make these jokes more often Cheesy. Honestly, I've lost interest with football this season, for a lot of reasons, but of course Liverpool not playing all that well, has definitely impacted it. Although, I've watched them when they were much worse than this, so definitely not the only reason. However, today was one of those games I'll always remember, and will likely be talking about it for years to come.

Yeah. When it comes down to it, it's just the memory lane walk for me. Alaves and Houllier, even though I couldn't watch it live. Istanbul (live and for many days after following as much as possible while internet was still brand newish). Even Rodgers gave a couple of things that stayed with me for a long time (Suarez dive celebration in front of Moyes burns bright).

But it's with Klopp I have the most and the best. And it seems to come even in our worst of times. Our worst season yet and already 9-0 and 7-0 victories? Salah said it best when journo asked about his favourite goal: "The last one".

Oh and please joke about wiping Madrid with Real...

So I'm matched with last round's best performer -- not even sure now if I should just wing this round as I think I overthought a few questions (Napoli, mainly, and Everton winning). Then again, going for the "natural selections" of Sheffield and Djoko questions didn't help either.

As usual, lineup is hardest. Gunners got a couple of players injured but they could still make it for Sporting. I'm not waiting for tomorrow to find out!

Good luck, LFC_Bitcoin! Let's not settle for a draw and give others room to catch up Wink

Did you see this? I'm topping the league, Trofo behind me and suddenly next round I'm free?

This is blatant cheating, report this guy! FIFA, where are you??

You cannot report, when it comes to Trofantino, if you two wanted to break away and form a Super League with just the two of you, that might change though Wink

...but you're right. Worth putting them on an acca and that's already done now for me!

Hmm... when will I be invited to work as a sports analyst? I think I'm ready  Grin
Roma was able to grind out a victory, but the result is the result even if the opponent had many chances.
By the way, is removing Moise a record? How many seconds have passed since he entered the field and received a red card? As I understand the expression on Allegri's face will become a meme  Grin

Yeah, too bad my acca contained Monaco and Real, terrible draws ruined good days.

But yes, Moise. I talk about him and he gets himself sent off haha. I can't think of any records except Gerrard during a United derby (less than 1 minute) but Moise's cameo is probably a bit shorter. Never would have thought about it, but this is why red cards in La Liga and Serie A are pretty attractive.

What's your next tip? Inter? AC? UCL success?

2238  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anyone else agree that mtgox payout is keeping bitcoin down? on: March 06, 2023, 01:02:02 PM
Commented on a separate post about MtGox. It didn't ever have a significant or long-lasting effect before (regardless of whether coins were needed to be bought or sold). Negligible impact now, if any.

We've seen this before in the news tropes (China mining ban, institutional futures like CME, etc.). It might work when new. It might even work when regurgitated in a new cycle, having reached new audiences. But the effect wanes, and can't take hold.

Sorry but Bitcoin has been vaccinated against Gox.
2239  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: March 05, 2023, 07:55:56 PM
Right, if any one of you successfully predicted 7-0 I want you to give me the lottery numbers, please. What about that lads, biggest margin we've ever beat Man Utd, while they're on their run. Everyone wrote us off, and we just absolutely destroyed them. A lot of their players shouldn't have even been on the pitch, I thought the ref was hiding from some of the drama that occurred. Luke Shaw, kneeing a player on the floor shouldn't be allowed. That wouldn't be allowed in UFC, let alone football.

Like I said, the signs have been there, and I think a lot of people forgot that we've had a ton of injury problems for a long time now. They're all coming back. I was expecting a good performance, obviously I wasn't expecting what I've just witnessed. I haven't enjoyed football as much as today for probably over a year.

Anyone have the pre match odds on a 7-0 win for Liverpool? Got to be something like 250 to 1, right?

Last season when we beat them 5-0 (away) I picked 4-0 ... this time I only went 3-0 and we blasted them out of the water. Remember our jibes just one, two days ago? About wiping the floor with United etc.

I could scarcely believe what I was watching. When Salah scored and took his customary yellow for shirt off, I actually cheered (I usually think it's just idiotic to get that yellow every season now heh).

The ref was praying for time wasting, indeed. He saved so many yellows, possible reds. What a night, and Klopp said it perfectly, I paraphrase: People forgot we are here and what we are, we needed to remind them. We're still here!

Odds on Liverpool correct score? Unfortunately SB only gives 100/1 for scores beyond their pick, max is 5:0?

Other notes: I love Robbo and how he winds up our biggest rivals. That guy deserves a Kop medal. Bobby's goal was celebrated as it should be. I miss him so badly already. Also, United GD is 6 now =)

I said a few rounds ago, Liverpools wake up, but im not expecting this. I can see some Totenham fans really fearfull, they see his rear mirror and see the Kloop teeths.

I need to fire up my 3-0, 4-0 picks again... but I'm wary of false dawns... as KTChampions points out, we did win 9-0 this season, and we meet Bournemouth next. So let's just focus on doing Saints a favour and help keep Bournemouth rooted...
2240  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🦊 Betnomi.com | FPL Football Pool ⚽ Discussion Thread on: March 05, 2023, 06:21:18 PM
Is the Newcastle dream over? I did get really lucky keeping Almiron in one final game when he last scored, otherwise I'm not liking any of them right now.
Newcastle is still good but they lost their touch in attack, from fantasy perspective it is all about Trippier and maybe one more defender or Pope.
I'm 56 points + Salah, Darwin and 4 other players yet to play. my game plan is going well.

I find it really hard to compliment a winger in City but he's got to be the standing on the shoulders of the rest in the games I do see him play. But yeah he's not really been in contention for FPL because of Pep.

Trippier yeah, probably happiest pick for me all day at the back (minus flirting with TAA/Robbo).

A slump week for me, I suppose, thinking of what could have been. Even Robbo getting the assist not likely to top 50 for me, kinda regret not keeping Salah on but hey, Darwin having his worst game in a long time too... looks... tired? And still scores? Yes =)

I WANT TO SEE RASHFORD BLANK..... LIVERPOOL UP TO YOU.

You're welcome!
