Do you have to rewind the wallet after you send coins?
2302  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 28, 2013, 07:45:31 PM

I have 2 orders with them. One in October, one in January. I am annoyed that I don't have my hardware, however I have BFL FPGA units, and I love them. I knew what I was getting into when I ordered a product that did not yet exist. I psychologically prepared myself to not get my hardware until this summer, because anything before that would defy Moore's law. Difficulty will go up, price will go up, and mining will continue to be profitable. Those mining with the best hardware will have an edge. Those without ASIC will be butt-hurt and jealous.

chalidore I'm genuinely curious about 2 things:

1) What do you think the odds are that you will receive your product in 2013?

2) Would there be any point in the future where you would cancel your preorders because they are no longer profitable?

Thank you. Honestly would like to hear your thoughts.
2303  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs Forced "On Hold For Refund" for all my Single SC orders on: May 28, 2013, 06:37:12 PM
I continue to be surprised that the vast majority have not cancelled their pre-orders with BFL.

It's been shown beyond and reasonable doubt they lie, can not be trusted (for examples sneaking out of 2 big bets), and are incompetent (do not have the ability to make the 'pre-order' product as promised).

Why would anyone not request a refund? Unless you pre-ordered in the first 3 months or so, it is likely by the time your number comes around they'll have run away by then with your money or have gone bankrupt, and not to mention, difficulty will be so high that you probably won't even get your ROI. BTC locked up with BFL is money that you could have used in a 100 other great opportunities in the Bitcoin world.

The thing I've taken away as a personal lesson from this BFL fiasco is how important advertising can be. The company did an excellent job selling their 'products' with slick ads put on the right websites -- so much so that they are still selling a good amount of pre-orders, even though realistically, I'd put them at only having about a 5% chance of giving a ROI. That one element of the company has impressed me.

Okay thank you Matt.

Hi guys. Could someone help a dude out and let me know what the upcoming ASICMINER plans are to bring more mining hardware online?  I've been reading mention of 200 TH or something massive like that . Is this thread where it would be announced? It's not mentioned in the OP and don't want to sift through 300+ pages of thread. Thanks.
2306  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is there a Hashing Bubble in the making? on: May 28, 2013, 05:29:04 PM
I think I may be in the minority opinion, but believe that the 'writing is on the wall' for gpu mining. I guess it is discussed a lot in other threads, but ya, ASICS are just so much more efficient I think GPU mining will be 75% - 90% phased out by the start of 2014.

Regarding the hashing bubble, I don't think this is really all that possible. I see what you are saying, but do not believe it is accurate to call this a bubble.

It is not a fast moving as a bubble. The difficulty gains equalizes with the price gains, roughly. If there is too much hashing going on for the ROI then it will scale back, but it will never rapidly decrease as in other bubbles, unless there is corresponding massive drop in BTC/USD.  Hashing rates are reactive to the price, but I don't think you could see it as ever artificially higher than it 'should be'. It's always pretty much perfectly 'where it should be' as it is a self - correcting system.

What will happen is that mining profit margins will get lower, % wise. Mining will be dominated by fewer, bigger players, and you'll need to get a ROI in 3 or 4 months otherwise you'll be hooped.  If you are looking to get into mining, you'll likely need a greater amount of capital to by a reasonable ASIC.

Once the 2nd gen of ASICS of come, and ASICS are easier to come by and there is more competition (hoping this will happen, though it's not guaranteed) then will see another shift in the metrics. But we are still in the early ASIC stage, where  most GPUs will soon be no longer hardly be at all profitable (at the end of the summer), even for scrypt coins.

Ghost Festival ? That sounds like an interesting one.

AX = Seasonic  ?

Well learn something new everyday. Thanks.

I'd say get the AX then Smiley

Go for a Seasonic .  Expensive but excellent .
2310  Other / Off-topic / Re: Religious beliefs on bitcoin on: May 27, 2013, 06:08:35 PM
Religious arguments are just about pointless.

Most religious beliefs are based on faith. Faith , as in, I believe it because I believe it without any need for proof.

You can't argue this position. You can't really argue any point for any positive outcome without being able to reference logic or rationality.

So yes. Just going to say that of course the 3000 some odd old book written about oral traditions of nomadic sheep herders relating the word of a a supreme disinterested being in the sky about bitcoin, 5000 years laters, certainly does predict the end of the world in the way of four big zombies riding sky horses that will come down and destroy the world.

Of course. Where are the disbelievers? They are so stupid to not believe in this stuff.

Was going to chime in with my thoughts on what the Sky People think of bitcoin when I was sidetracked by some lovely cars.

Such as this one:

This is of course the classic of classic muscle cars, a '69 Mustang Mach 1
2312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why can a motherboard have a big impact on mining performance? on: May 27, 2013, 05:22:07 PM
Of all the apps I've run in my entire life, I've never seen one like cgminer where it can run so differently on each system it installed in. There are so many variables. Even two video cards of the same make in the same PC don't always behave the same way .
2313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin mining vs Litecoin mining on: May 27, 2013, 05:20:23 PM
No offence but I'm surprised you have 10 gigahashes and do not know the answer to this question. Are you asking hypothetically?
2314  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTB] Coinhoarder B3 shares on: May 27, 2013, 02:32:47 PM
Maybe you should post an initial offering price?

[I'm most likely hanging on to my own shares but probably many are wondering how much you are offering to pay]

HRmmm is it just me or is the price dropping somewhat ?

[going to make a pot coffee..just rolled outta bed...]

edit: [5 minutes later. rubs sleep from eyes]

Ya ya I do believe this is the start of some sort of ....what do those market wizards call it... .a 'dip'.
2316  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins : currency or collectibles ? on: May 26, 2013, 08:22:29 PM
I think Bitcoin does really encourage colleciton and hoarding, as the value goes up so reliably.

I know for me personally I'm pretty free with my fiat. I spend it often without much thought on some frivilous stuff.

For whatever reason, not for BTC. To cash out fiat from BTC for me is really unappealing. No one can pry the BTC from my cold sweat cyberpalms !  I'm always looking to expand my amount of BTC and only ever spend it on further investments, or a few rare purchase.
2317  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: May 26, 2013, 08:08:08 PM

And sincerly I wonder where bitcoin would be without SR sometimes.

Is SR back?

Yes Sr is back online.
2318  Economy / Speculation / Re: Amazingly thin ceiling, Price about to take off. on: May 24, 2013, 07:56:39 PM
Well OP called it pretty well.

I thought pretty much all day we were in for a $5 drop.

But yup: I was totally wrong. BTC is going so strong right now.
2319  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: So once people get their hands on ASICs, is mining on GPUs dead? on: May 24, 2013, 06:04:39 PM
Ya I really don't see how GPU mining will be profitable.

Big fallacy #1 =  GPU  mining is fine because you can mine LTC when the ASICS hit.

This isn't logical, because naturally all the GPU miners will be doing the same thing, thus LTC difficulty will rise a massive amount in much the same way as BTC mining.

Big fallact #2 = the 9970 will save us

I don't believe this. It's possible, but I don't think likely.

An ASIC is a specialized product for bitcoin mining. It is just naturally an exponential gain in power/performance efficiency . The next gen AMD stuff will gain the likely the same increase as it did from the 6000 series to the 7000 series. If it's more than that , there will be little chance of it matching the 2nd gen ASICs that'll be coming out before not too long (likely before the 9970 itself comes out) .

2320  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitsyncom, can you please hire some employees, answer emails, and tickets? on: May 24, 2013, 05:21:41 PM
I have nothing bad to say about Avalon personally.

But it does seem to me for the great amount of business they are doing, and the great products they have, a little bit would go a long way. I'm sure in China it would be fairly inexpensive to hire a min wage dedicated secretary or customer service person to assist with running the day-to-day stuff, while Yifu and the other BTC champions can be freed up to do more important stuff.

Even just having a full-time employee in this sort of role doing this one day a week would really help the situation out massively.
