1501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 1.5. Come on in the water's fine! on: May 20, 2016, 10:47:38 PM
Crap first time I checked the price in a month. Sigh, dropping like a rock. I'm surprised at the optimism here (it's great to see, just envious I guess) when the price is a 1/20th of what it once was.

I might as well keep my wallet staking as all my hobos are worth so little now, but I'd be really happily surprised if the constant downwards trend reversed itself, in my experiences with alts, that doesn't really happen.

Though I always did think HBN was one of the best, if not the best, POS coin. Maybe part of it's fall in price is just the general altcoin-overload traders have had after the 500th coin was released.

I think this is my favorite thread of my life.  The meme to noise ratio is incredibly high and amusing.
1503  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 19, 2016, 08:26:43 PM
Going to go out on a limb and say that I today's low is going to be the lowest low we'll see for a LONG time and I bought today and I feeling confident it was a good call.
1504  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Havelock Down. The final gentlemen? on: April 29, 2016, 05:28:03 PM
2btc weekly volume! Whew lol, how the mighty have fallen. Just one single AM share was over 2 btc for a little bit...
1505  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Havelock Down. The final gentlemen? on: April 29, 2016, 07:46:21 AM
What do you guys use havelock for out of curiosity?

I used to trade AM on there daily but haven't used since AM folded. Is there anything besides trash  on there these days?

Thanks for posting this update burnside.
1507  Economy / Economics / Re: How to make 17 BTC out of 7 BTC ? on: April 29, 2016, 05:41:26 AM
Lol @ all the gambling recommendations.  Gambling is not an investment strategy...its gambling. Gambling is fun, but know that the house always has the best odds, thats why you see so many gambling advertisements here.  If you do gamble though, don't use Betcoin, its crap, the screwed me out of some money recently.

1508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: LISK price speculation on: April 26, 2016, 08:50:02 PM
LISK isn't going to do much price-wise I don't think.

Seems like so many folks who missed the ETH train hope they will have a second chance with LISK but I don't see it.
1509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Scam, prettiest lie ever told.... on: April 26, 2016, 08:48:04 PM
ETH isn't scam.

It is just incredibly overvalued. There is no rationale way it should have been anywhere around 0.03 btc. Its just pure speculation.

Not a bad experiment, and way better than a 1000 other shit coins. But a price around 20-25% of what is now seems much more reasonable to me.  Over .02 is crazy.

That being said I'm so glad I started mining it 4-5 months ago or so.
1510  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: End Of Ether on: April 26, 2016, 08:45:50 PM
Eth was ridiculously over-valued.  I think anyone in crypto for any moderate of time would see that anywhere around 0.03 btc for 1 eth is insanity.

Not that Eth is terrible or anything.

It's natural price fall is compounded by this latest bitcoin price boom. I agree that there is much more falling to come. I'd imagine it will settle around 0.006-8 or something.

I've been mining it and selling it right away for many months now. Terribly incredibly overvalued.
1511  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I got hacked , All my Bitcoin and Litecoin lost on: April 26, 2016, 08:40:08 PM
I'm pretty sure this is labled as a civil matter in canada. I bought a bunch of speakers off of the back of a van once. The police were almost laughing at me when I called to report that i've been scammed.  Roll Eyes

Haha I fell for that one like 15 years ago when I was dumb and young. I wonder if its the same scam or even the same guys.
1512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I got hacked , All my Bitcoin and Litecoin lost on: April 26, 2016, 08:38:10 PM
425 btc! Holy crap. That's a lot of money.

I'm really sorry man, that's terrible.

Also sorry, but the police will be just about useless here. It is hard enough to get them to do anything if something physical was stolen, but bitcoin, they won't even spend 15 minutes on, even if it is 100,000's of dollars. Not trying to be a douche but just realistic.  If there is a 'cyber police' in Canada is probably about 3 or 4 guys actually investigating crimes and they'd only be servicing large companies, not individuals.
1513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 291.2409 BTC for a 0.0001 BTC transaction . on: April 26, 2016, 08:31:32 PM
Oh man. I hope the guy wasn't just sleepy and thought that was the transfer amount, not the fee. I'd feel pretty terrible for that guy. I wonder what the story is.
1514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ~$10,000 in cryptos stolen off my desktop from an encrypted folder, how, why? on: April 26, 2016, 08:22:37 PM
^^ agree.  Its not that is impossible for this to happen if you are using linux but it is about 10,000 less likely. So, ya, next to impossible.

If that's too much trouble I recommend using the wallet service at blockchain.com. It seems to me at least that security their is quite high and they've been around since the beginning.
1515  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 26, 2016, 08:18:45 PM
Why did I sell at 435? Sigh.

Bitcoin you crazy.
1516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Altcoin to invest in for 2016 and WHY on: March 30, 2016, 12:06:11 AM
^^ hmmm haven't heard of MOJO will give that a gander.

Been reading about LISK today for the first time and it does looks really promising. I think ETH is over-valued IMHO as the stuff you can do with contracts seems limited in complexity. In comparison LISK would be infinitely more useful especially as it uses a common language. The big question is whether it will actually work as proposed though.

1518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - High Fast Stake - Version 1.5. Come on in the water's fine! on: March 28, 2016, 11:48:47 PM
Whew HBN is sure taking a lot of system resources for the wallet to run.  My old Atom netbook which I had used for HBN mining only became overburdened and did not have the system resources to run the wallet (believe it is a 4gb 1.8 dual core atom).

Moved my wallet to a full desktop (one generation old) and it takes up a significant amount of system resources, keeps my cpu busy while my gpu is mining eth.

After not having mined for a while (4, 6months? not sure) it seems that the difficulty has really plummeted, churning out a pretty crazy amount of staked HBN.

Sad to see that is is fading away somewhat. Without any new initiatives the coin will fade to irrelevance. As much as I like HBN and supported it over the years it doesn't seem to me like there is much of a plan going forward, and without one, the future looks bleak. One guy can only work on so many different projects at the same time.

As I said about 1.5 years ago or so in this thread, a coin really needs at least a few businesses accepting it as payment, especially a pos coin, otherwise the inflation will inexorably drive it to being worthless.
1519  Economy / Speculation / Re: July 20, 2016, the block halving date, what will the price be? on: March 28, 2016, 11:40:43 PM
I'm going to say $550.

I predict a run up to $700 around the halving date, then falling down, and price will balance out to $550 to low $600.

The miners will simply need to sell at higher prices in order for to be worthwhile to mine. Lots of miners will be pushed out of business, causing further consolidation of mining [conglomerates]. But once the consolidation proceeds, the largest remaining miners (with the lowest power costs) will be able to control the market more, selling for higher rates.

Also don't think Eth or any other coins will be able to take away from bitcoin's overall market cap, to any significant measure. Even once (or if already) bitcoin is outdated and solidly a gen 1 coin in the realm of gen 3 or 4 coins, it will retain is market maker position.

The halving event is more psychological than technical. Bitcoin is a limited commodity that is only going to become rarer and harder to acquire. If only the untold millions of Chinese escaping currency controls on its own will be enough for bitcoin to continue to slowly climb, the halving event will just be a spark or 'excuse' if you will for the market to take another jump in value.

My wallet stopped staking, anyone help a hobo out?

What happened:  my eeePC is barely fast enough to run the wallet.  I withdrew some coins about a month or two ago now, and it took many minutes to process. The coins got sent but (I figure because of the long freeze/delay) my wallet no longer synced.

What I did: I removed the wallet files from the \roaming\ directory and then redownloaded the entire blockchain. Took about 2 or 3 weeks or something. Then I closed the program, put the wallets back in the directory, and restart the wallet.

Now:  wallets appear okay but none of them are syncing.  In the lower right corner, when i mouse-over the arrow, it says that its not staking because the coins are not mature even though they are definitely old enough.

Was there some sort of rescan switch or command? How do I do that again? Any advice appreciated, thanks.
