2341  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: November 03, 2015, 08:31:06 AM
Is there an upgrade kit to s4+?

Do you think there will be an upgrade to newer chips in the future like they did with the s2?

No, it was canceled and they even skipped the S6. The closest to the S6 was the S4+/S5+. No official word of if there will be a S6 eventually but the upgrade kit for S4 were canceled for some reason.

Hi All,
I have just open a account with Coinbase but I would like to know how I could add money on it

You must be in North America. Then you click add bank account, add the details and the routing numbers to the form. Then a check deposit will be made to the bank account within a week and you must enter the exact amounts to prove you own the account.

Then you can add back and forth.

Also in Canada you can do direct interact purchase and its instant and more simple, but only one way.
2343  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: November 03, 2015, 05:51:49 AM
you need only 1BTC  Wink

bold dude only one but in 20 years this one can worth fortune
who knows maybe even be worth over 100k and that is a lot maybe in 20 yearn wont be now is

Go on dude if you think you will retire with 1 bitcoin.
Everything can happen or the bitcoin will succeed too much,
Or it will crash until the end, bitcoin needs really to be everywhere to rise and shine Smiley

If bitcoin become a global currency, 1BTC could actually be enough to live modestly your retirement, but i think it would take more than 20 years for BTC to reach the 10+ Trillion USD market cap.
2344  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S5 board gone bad, options on: November 03, 2015, 05:44:30 AM

I dont think dust would had killed it.

Dust impeded cooling - hotter ASIC became inefficient - inefficient ASIC drew more current - internal ASIC component or conductor couldn't stand up to the higher current, melts and shorts to ground.

Which would all mean something if the ASIC was allowed to run to 90c and 100c, which it cannot because the miner will stop the mining if it reach 80c. And a 2% in power draw isint enough to make a difference.

Except the sensor for temp is dead center on each board so if the hottest asic is on a top corner of the board the sensor may not read that it is at 100c

It is taken into account and sure the chips are indeed hotter at the end, but the chips are from from breaking down at that temperature.
We do put these in the oven after all. It would take a long time of overheating for the chips to get damaged and i don't think thats the issue here, even if OP forgot his S5 in a sauna for a month and did not notice the temp alarms during all that time.

We did see some S5 with a certain firmware overheat and break while losing internet connection however.
2345  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Help: Solo mining with Avalon 4.2 Suite on: November 02, 2015, 10:33:08 PM
Thanks a lot for info Smiley

The thing is that i am not looking to find a block and get some money Smiley I just want to know in depth how to set up a farm and run it
independently without any pools and dependancy on anyone or anything.

Actually it would be good to have a good guide hanging somewhere around the net which could teach people how to become an independent
miner in case there is some money for couple PH's and electricity is well priced.

I mean there is a lot of info how to mine in pools but not really how to be independent. If really, bitcoin can somehow somewhere become
a new currency adopted by governments, there should be well educated people who will keep balance.

I think any miner should have an idea about how to setup independent mine and what is necessary for that. So with this thread im doing my first steps to it Smiley

Thanks anyway.

What i meant is, you should be mining normally with your Avalon and with the return you get from it, you can get something like a USB stick from sidehack for like 0.1BTC and use that to solo mine at minimal losses. Smiley

2347  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: rumors of 3.5Th antminer S7 "lite" on: November 02, 2015, 09:30:11 PM
It kinda sound like they came up with a business plan and they don't have any work done beside some sketch and they want money to fund the development. We all know how these things went in the past...

I'd sure like some more steak to the gravy before throwing money that won't earn a cent for a long time, or maybe never.

If this was owned by a lesser organisation than LK Group Limited and CHBTC I would agree with you. I think it "will be" real however, there is high risk in the 14nm technology. I think a number of Companies have felt the need to make announcements a bit ahead of when they were fully ready in reaction to the Bitmain S7. So this B-Eleven & the Avalon6 fall into this category.

Rich

I would agree this is not a standard rendering where they are out to scam.  This a big company and released quite a few products in the past.

14nm is going to be interesting if they heat deadlines.   The ones that stayed at 28nm seem to be the current winners.   Avalon if true at all on timeframe we should see it in a few weeks.  But we all know how some products can be on deadlines.

I find it interesting that avalon 6 and new rumored new s7 are so close together in time frames.    One could have did a announcement to effect others sales. Its quite a cut throat business.

I'm not saying its a scam, i'm saying we all know how pre-order work out. You pay now because its a good price now and then when you do get it, its worthless because the market changed too much since then.

And seeing how quick BTC went up and how much difficulty raise we're looking at, it could just easily go down by the time these hit the door.
2348  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: rumors of 3.5Th antminer S7 "lite" on: November 02, 2015, 08:57:24 AM

Is this real or fake ? if its real which I doubt the specs are awesome and great competition for BITMAIN so they lower there price.

https://www.bw.com/pool/miner

if this is real then it seems that it could be bigger than the s7, because the hashpower it say that is still unknown, from 3 to 10 tera, i doubt it will be 5th as it will be like the s7

and 10th would mean a much greater investment for miners, i hope for 3th

It kinda sound like they came up with a business plan and they don't have any work done beside some sketch and they want money to fund the development. We all know how these things went in the past...

2349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brazilian exchanges hit all-time volume high in October on: November 02, 2015, 02:55:54 AM
No its not VAT. Vat is a Europe thing. That doesn't mean that rip off tax doesnt exist outside the Eurozone, what they call it does not matter. Brasil has a huge tax on sale of Bitcoin and it really kill the deal.

I'm not sure what you are referring to or what are your sources. Today there is no tax on sale of Bitcoin in Brazil.
There is capital gain taxes as part of regular income, but the purchase/sale of bitcoin is not taxed.

So the BTC price in Brazil is 30% higher. So its really not nice... and that does not mean sellers get 30% more, sellers get about the same as selling here and the tax take the 30%.

I didn't say that. I said that local currency purchasing power was reduced by that much.
BTC USD .vs. BTC BRL (at the USD BRL Rate) has been stable around -1% to 5% difference.

So seller gets something around this much. The spread used to be much higher 6 months ago and 12 months ago.
Now it responds quite fast to whatever the rates are in USD.

Check the exchange rate on their exchange website. My friend was unable to get Bitcoin because the price was +30%. If you know a way to get bitcoin in Brazil at normal price, please let me know. We been looking for a while for a way.

Here you can check the price on all Brazilian exchanges: http://bitvalor.com

Right now available for sale at: R$ 1,240.00
Exchange rate now: = R$ 3.86
So, available for sale right now at USD 321.24
Bitstamp right now = USD 324.3
Bitfinex = USD 329.6

So... it's even cheaper.

If you sell BTC for 320, they need to pay huge tax since its considered an income. So he was not able to do it, since 30% was too much. If there are exchanges that just let you do it anonymously so you don,t need to declare it as taxable income, then sure. I gave him the link he'll check it out.

It would be legal from his side since he would be purchasing, not selling. On the other exchange, there was a tax added to the BTC price of 30%.

Is this real or fake ?

The B-Eleven has not been released yet - it appears to be targeted to be released in December, and all available signs point to it being "real" in the sence that it's being actively worked on by a reputable company and will be "real" and for sale fairly soon.

Most of the specs seem to be out there except price - current speculation is that the price might be around .87 Bitcoin/TH but there's at least one other post that had the price listed as $500/TH with ZERO reference to where that price came from.

BW.com is in part owned by Lketc of "Dragon miner" fame, THEY have been around awhile and their equipment has a good reputation for being reliable (but heavy).
There has been speculation that it will be using the "tapeout announced a few months back" Innosilicon A3 chips, given Lketc's relationship with Innosilicon from the A1 chip days and the similarity of what specs have been announced between the B-Eleven and the A3, but nothing is certain on that front yet AFAIK.

IMO for any miner to be viable at this point in the .2-.3 watt/TH range, they need to drop the price down to 1BTC OR LESS per TH - as of right now, none of the currently available "new gen" or announced "next gen" miners has a viable chance to achieve RoI if your electric rate is over 3 cents / KWH, and they're all REAL MARGINAL even with 3cent power.

BW is already pre-selling B-Eleven hash at 0.78 bitcoin per TH/s with 4700 + TH unsold out of 10000 TH. They predict Jan 1, 2016 delivery.

If they sell a physical miner at .78 per TH and are close to january even, they would sell MANY of these.  That is a heck of a price per TH.

Will be intersting to see what happens.  I really want more info about these units.

Kind of a lot of money to throw at a pre-order that may come out way too late. Especially with the current Diff increase. It look like profitability will a drop by quite a bit. Also, is that site even trusted? I never heard of it.
2352  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brazilian exchanges hit all-time volume high in October on: November 02, 2015, 01:23:46 AM
I bet bitcoin will grow a lot more in the rest of South America as well, espeicially argentina. The exchange rates of these coutries are horrible.

It can't, really. Most of south America is under the huge Tax, which prohibit any sensible amount of volume that would let BTC grow in that region. Until the status of Bitcoin is changed there, they are pretty doomed there.

And the cost of ASIC there is also prohibitive with their 100-200% markup from importing it.
2353  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie help on: November 02, 2015, 12:58:53 AM
What you guys think of a second hand S3 for 250 euro. Are these easier to set up than the USBs

No! Bad. 250 euros is the price of a Antminer S5. Find a way to get a S3 for under 100USD. If you pay more, i understand it might be hard if you pay VAT but its not worth it. At all.

If you can get a S5 for 250euros, that would be a good pick, however.

It will seem not worth it from most countries.  But Europe gear sells at a high premium.   I don't think it's 250 premium but I could see 150 - 200.  Prices are crazy high over there compared to the regular market.

And you are right it's not worth it, but in a market miners are harder to get people seem to pay more.  Even if ROI math does not support it.

And apparently Europe has a lot of of places where the electricity cost is very expensive, so even if he could get a S3 for under 80 EURO, it might not be profitable to run unless he somehow has "free" electricity.

The S5's are probably okay right now with the BTC price being good for the time being, but i'm not sure buying one for 600USD is a smart move.
2354  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Brazilian exchanges hit all-time volume high in October on: November 01, 2015, 11:17:04 PM
I think their problems with the Brazilian Real is making them see cryptocurrencies in a different way, much like what happened (and is still happening) in Venezuela.

I agree. The Brazilian Real lost between 30% and 40% of its value in 2015 compared to the US Dollar.

Don't they in Brazil have to pay a VAT as well when they are buying bitcoins?
As far as I know, VAT-type tax is not applied to any bitcoins sales in Brazil. Prices have been around 4-8% above US prices during the first half of the month and equivalent to US prices over the second half.
I believe exchanges pay taxes only on top of the trading/deposit/withdraw fees they collect.

Buying someone who does not live in Brazil, do they still have to pay VAT or are free of charge?

No VAT.

No its not VAT. Vat is a Europe thing. That doesn't mean that rip off tax doesnt exist outside the Eurozone, what they call it does not matter. Brasil has a huge tax on sale of Bitcoin and it really kill the deal.

My S5 lost a board last night.  Chain 1 showed many "x"'s.  I changed supplies, no help, in fact chain 1 went completely dashes.  I swapped sides.  Chain 2 went all "x"'s.  I lowered the frequency to 200M.  Ten "0"'s and 20 "x"'s on the bad board!  I cleaned the board.  Now all "x"'s again.  Must admit the board had gotten dusty and the heatsink fins had accumulated dust at the intake.  My last try today was the newest firmware.  So, I believe the board has gone bad.  This is a Batch 1 S5 I bought in March, well beyond the 3 month warranty.  What kind of charges have others seen from Bitmain for this kind of board return and repair?  Thanks for insight.

I had no luck getting replacement from Bitmain.

You could try messing around with, only running it with the controller. Check if a cap is dead, etc. Maybe you can post a pic of the board or check if there's anything burnt. If not you could sell the board, if you're in North America i could be interested.

I dont think dust would had killed it.

Anybody have the link to this company were I can buy it if it comes out ? not the cloud link the company link ?

It would be here; https://www.bitmaintech.com/product.htm

But it does not exist yet. If you see one and its not announced first, then its a scam. Don't do it.
2358  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What will happen when 21 mil blocks are mined? on: November 01, 2015, 08:59:43 PM
Just a follow up on the transaction fee. Is there provision in the "system" for transaction fees to be increase to compensate to some degree for the reduction in Block Reward?

Richy

No. It is solely based on competition to getting a TX included in a block. Basically its a bid system to get your Transaction confirmed. Which mean if we increase the block size, the per transaction cost will be much lower.

If we don't get a bigger block size and the rate of transaction being requested go higher, the fee will raise as well.
2359  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining rewards $$$ nothing on: November 01, 2015, 08:56:27 PM
OK my electricity is free and i i have no budget for buying things over a 100 dollards i just wanted to know if i could mine bitcoin with my gaming pc or is there an alternative where you could get bitcoin???

Free, check. Under 100 dollars, doable depending where you live. With your PC, negative. Not doable.

Buy a Antminer S3, its probably the best you can get with your budget. With truly free electricity S3 is the way to go. Even S1 dirt cheap could be nice. When you want something higher, go for the S5.

https://alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator

shows you will be earning roundabout 0.00008606 BTC per month

mining at home is not so profitable anymore...

Mining at home is very profitable, just with ASIC, if you don't have exorbitant electricity price compared to the world, Bitcoin is *very* profitable, with the Bitcoin being at a high price. Even though its been going down, now.

You are correct mining at home is always profitable with the correct hardware and free electricity. Like me..Smiley but even if you dont have free it can still be profitable with again the correct equipment. I wish I could get some more equipment. Only running 3 currently trying to fix to bitcrane cards i just bought.

You can get hosting for under 50USD$ per kWh. Its not free but its still very good for proper hardware. Its a lot better than mining with crazy electricity prices. Anyone that say its not profitable to mine right now is wrong.

Though the statement "At home" hold some weight for a minority.
