1541  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: January 05, 2016, 12:53:48 AM
I have a s5 that decided it would not power the fans anymore. It tries to hash then overheats. I can login to the gui and see everything and it says fan speed 0. Tested fans there good. Tested psu it's good. Factory defaulted the unit and applied latest firmware and still no good. All boards show up just no fan power. Also reconnected all cable to make sure they have good connection.

Any ideas?

Did you try both fan connector? And if they're both dead, thats pretty weird, but your only option then is pretty simple, you're going to need to power the Fans strait off the power supply. You would ideally get a controller so you can control the fan speed. Otherwise they're going to be running full speed at all time. But if thats fine with you...

UP!!

I'm seeking for 2 or 3 coupons for B9...  Roll Eyes

Not trying to hijack; i have a question; Are you sure these B9 Coupons even exist? It was pretty hard to find coupons for B8 but now the one i did find are expired.

I really don't know if they exist; i don't know how or why bitmain gives theese coupons (i never saw one)  Huh

I see. I got a B8 coupon at the last second and ordered. They expired just before new year. I think these coupons are given as sort of compensation if you get shipping delays, or maybe had to RMA. I'm not sure but mostly. They give coupon as a form of compensation.

They used to give them to resellers, lots of them but, lately that does not seem to be the case.

I'd love to have a B9 coupon in hand. Just to have that option on the table, but i did not even see anyone legit having any so far. Also the B8 shipped on the first open day after the order, so it would be hard to complain about shipping delays xD.
1543  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How quiet is the Avalon 4.1, really? on: January 04, 2016, 10:59:22 PM
I could part with 1 but I would need to keep the pi as I only have 1 controller for the 3 units

Do you have a price in mind? I'm not strongly desiring to buy, i mostly wanted to get options on the table. Ultimately i could simply keep the S1's. I was just thinking. "Could i get 1TH/s in my room as a heater instead of 500GHs for 600watts? And could it be as quiet? Would it be more profitable?

I have a idle RasPi anyways so thats not a problem. Assuming i can get my hand on the needed image. I suppose i would only need the cables thing to plug the miner into the Pi. Assuming there's an option to turn those Avalon4.1 cable to USB? I actually don't know how A4.1 work exactly.

If you don't strongly fell like selling, then no pressure. Smiley But if a great deal fall on my lap, i will certainly give it a thought.
1544  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What would be a good asic miner to start with? on: January 04, 2016, 10:04:16 PM
My apologies... I didn't know OP referred to me...

I do have 220/240v and noise is not the biggest issue. I would have a dedicated room.

Electric is not that cheap I guess... 8ct/kWh.

Okay, well 8ct is not excellent but its probably workable. Antminer S5 for 200$USD would probably be the smallest thing i would go for. Are you located in the US? An alternative for S7's but not for long are Avalon6, since they are already located in the US, you can save quite a bit for not having to import so it can be worth considering.

Then there's the S7 from bitmain.
https://www.bitmaintech.com/product.htm

For PSU's i'd look for some options here, probably a 220v kit from Finksy or Jabberwock depending on where you are located.

Alright it's up to you, as I've said escrow is welcome.

So basically, you would sell the 500GB one for 52USD+ shipping? What condition are they in? Brand new? If its really an MZ-7KE512BW we can deal, just PM me. Escrow used would be OGNasty.

They're completely new and unsealed.

76.60$

and the 500 is 129.95$. I only need the 500 but if i buy both, can you eat the shipping cost?(Canada) And you're welcome to finish this in PM, i sent you one a bit ago. Smiley
1546  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 31 to Jan 12 Diff thread picks open. on: January 04, 2016, 09:14:47 PM
And here i was hoping to take a pick with 42 being the digits. Sound like 42% could be closer to be a winner than a 4.2% raise. I would of been plenty happy with a single digit diff raise, i hope this is just a luck spike and not a 150PH/s mine properly getting online.

You are missing fields for web address, user name, and API key, that's what the program is yelling at you about.

yeah i get that. but i dunno why..

Thats weird, mine does not do that. Which version setting on your on? I had to update to beta, but i have not updated for 2 weeks now so i'm not sure what the current Beta version is at.

The version i am on, where Kano work is v2.2.1-beta.

1549  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8 PH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: January 04, 2016, 09:01:30 PM
is the luck calc broken or maybe i'm broken ?

Description   Time          MeanTx%   Diff%   Mean%   CDF[Erl]   Luck%
Last 5 Blocks   4.1days   101.0%   123.23%   123.23%   0.7360   81.15%

i think it should be higher yeah ? or prolly it has not been updated yet ?

No;

(Using rough rounded numbers)
50+108+159+32+264= 613/5 = 122.6% diff.

So 81.15% luck is exact.

That 264% block is a killer, if we find a decent block next, the luck for 5 blocks will then jump higher.
1550  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help for Mining on: January 04, 2016, 08:58:41 PM
Thank you all !  Grin

Hold on, we told you, you can't profit at your electricity rate, don't ignore that fact. You pay twice what it would cost to have it hosted. You just plain can't do this. It would cost 162USD per month to keep it running.

Also I am guessing France has a decent VAT being in EU.  So you spend that on top + what all Virosa mentioned.   So your fighting a uphill battle.

If you go hosting center you would save money of electricity, and depending on where you pick could quite possibly save on vat.  And at the end you still should be able to sell but the hosting company you will likely have to pay something to mail it out.

Developing from this alternative. It might be a good idea to consider buying Avalon 6 from retail that are already in the US and have them hosted there for about half of what it would cost OP to run them.

This way, no VAT/duty/import fees.

Another alternative could be buying Antminer S7 on Hashnest. I am not sure how much they charge per kW/month of electricity but i'm certain its much cheaper than .16$/kWh. 0 tax, duty, VAT, etc.

I guess i'll keep an eye out for an Avalon 4, but its probably not worth going out of my way to get one in this case.

I have three id be willing to part with

I would take at most one, i just need something really quiet next to my bed for winter warming.

I am looking at 2xS3 from ebay, total 200USD shipped and no import costs since already in Canada. Would a single Avalon come down to something comparable in term of cost?

Not even close on price I don't think.  They never did compete with bitmain on price with s5's.  They were always higher.

But 200 is not in ballpark even I don't think.  But others can pipe in an say what they think.

Sound reasonable, also the unit at full speed is more hashrate than the S3's so i'd have to pay for the full hashrate, which would be fine.

But he has not replied with a price so i think i'll just get a S3 from ebay and switch the fans with fans i already have. Then maybe undervolt it. Should be full quiet and be enough heat along with my PC for the winter.

Cheers. Smiley

Hello ! I'm not good at english...
I have 1700$ ~ 2000$ budget to buy miners and start mining BTC.
But I don't know where buy miners.
How long before profit or just no profit to start ?

Thanks for help !

Profits depend on your expenses to run the hardware versus the return. Then how long it take to earn back the money put into buying a miner is simply cost of acquisition divided by profit per month average.

So the first variable is, what is your electricity rate cost per kWh in USD?

I'm considering upgrading my bedroom silent warmer, which are 3x Antminer S1, doing 400GH/s combined, at under 20dB. So how quiet is the Avalon really? Can it do 800~1000GHs at 20dB or so?

No 20db is not going to happen.

But  it will go around 30 db at 800gh

They are pretty quiet as far as miners go and considering the amount of hashing rate you get.  They can be pushed to be very efficient and quiet.  That is what I did wit my set of 3.

Some day I will finally sell them.  Just have not got to it yet as I like them so dang much.

Thanks for the inputs.
I have some max 18dB super quiet fan, it would not make a dent in a S5 but for a S1 undervolted to 140gh/160w, it works just fine.

I guess i'll keep an eye out for an Avalon 4, but its probably not worth going out of my way to get one in this case.

hope you dont mind me posting this:

5min test at -10C  Grin

No problem at all.  This is for any batch 8.  That is very low on testing but seems to work fine which is nice.

Lowest I have got is around 30F or so but no issues running in it.   Also started mining around December 19, 2015. or so and no fault's or errors which is nice.  So guess were like 1/2 month of running great.

I've ran some miners where the chip were at -6~-10c, they worked fine. I'm guessing as long as no condensation freeze at temp variance there would be no problems.

Let me start off first by saying "hello!" from Chattanooga, TN. Glad I found this forum and it has been a wealth of info.
I bought an Antminer S5 and can't wait to get started mining. This is more of an educational hobby for me and my son and believe me I have no expectations of making my fortune this way. Only wish I'd started a few years ago! The miner will work in a cool basement.
Anywho, on to my questions:
I have an old MacBook Pro collecting dust in the basement. Can I use it as a wireless access point for the miner and just let them both run?
-running a long cable to the basement is not an option.

I went ahead and bought a usb "wallet." I thought I'd attach it to the MacBook. Is this the correct configuration?

Being in Chattanooga, I have fast internet service. SpeedTest measures my wireless connection at 90Mb/s download and 75Mb/s upload. Does this help me in any way?

Thanks for any advice you can give!

I have a friend running such a bad setup, it works, but its not reliable, the laptop need to be on 24/7, etc. And having fast internet change nothing. But low ping is better.
1560  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Customs! How much did they ripped off your miner at your country? on: January 04, 2016, 01:59:47 AM
I got charged 15%, for canada in quebec province.  it was listed as "bitcoin miner" on the duties invoice

I got %7 to 13% so far. (Same location) I'm not sure how the carriers handle it. It seem like sometime i pay more, sometime i pay less. I'm not sure if its because they were labeled differently (did not pay attention) or the carrier handled it differently.
