1401  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Should I just do it? on: January 12, 2016, 10:33:17 PM
I am just now learning about what Bitcoin is and how it works. I am slightly if not totally confused. I thought maybe I would just DL wallet and mining program per YouTube tutorial I saw, but I am worried that I will screw something up. I just want to learn how it works and I learn much more efficiently through hands on experience than I do from hearing things explained, although that does help. I am a not very tech savvy single working mom of two, but I moonlight as an activist Grin and so I'm curious and really excited what looks to me like a global revolution and this new form of currency being a facet of that. I would appreciate any advice, definitely DONT dos, or links to some really solid information about Bitcoin and mining.

You can't mine bitcoin "with a program per Youtube tutorial". You need specialized hardware called ASIC, there are quite many options, but it all depend on how much you pay per kW per month and your starting budget.
1402  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Running an S7 on two PSUs (120V Not 240V!) on: January 12, 2016, 10:31:33 PM
Should be fine, yeah. 120V 15A, would give you 1440W of AC input (assuming 80% continuous draw as safety margin). If the circuit is running only that miner, this gives you something like 1300W of DC output, which an S7 would only request what, 1000 to 1200 depending on batch/model and clock setting?

I'd put the 1000W across two blades, and the 750W across the third blade and controller. That'd keep both of them at about half power for good efficiency.

A B8 S7 at stock speed will consume a bit over 1440w at the wall with anything but the better end of a gold efficiency. With two EVGA G2 at 50% load i got 1440W exactly after i brought down the fan a bit, but my 120v circuit drop to 115v when all the miners are mining so, something to keep in mind.
1403  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S7+ somewho knows anything? on: January 12, 2016, 11:47:53 AM
The S5+ was the first and so far ONLY " + " model out of Bitmain.

It is SPECULATED that they might release a S7+ model (the controller board supports enough boards) but nothing official has ever been mentioned.

I suspect that 28nm is going to become obsolete before Bitmain gets around to releasing an S7+ model, as they seem to be selling as many regular S7 models as they can make currently.

The S4+ doesnt count? Or S3++?

It seem a bit early for a S7+ But i don't know how much good it would do anyways. The BM1385 is already getting outclassed, Bitmain is not keeping up with the super efficient private mines.
1404  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS Europe selling Antminer s4/s5 and SP35 on: January 12, 2016, 10:54:35 AM
481$ for an Antminer S5 is extremely overpriced!!
You should think again your prices... I dont think you are going to sell those at that price here!!!

Some of the miners are new

That change absolutely nothing. Used hardware does not devalue like a car would. Having brand new outdated firmware is a huge loss, should not have let them idled one bit.
1405  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much can you realistically make from a 100th/s Bitcoin mining farm on: January 12, 2016, 10:22:24 AM
The mining calculators give you results that are very far fetched from reality, they do not take into consideration many factors involved in Bitcoin mining.

So realistically how much can you make with a 100th/s Bitcoin mining farm?

I can tell you pretty accurately that from today to end of the month, the BTC income would be around 4.2k USD. On the long term, you can only guess, since you can't know the future values, you can only make a worse case scenario, a likely scenario and a best case scenario and you work with that.

right now is 700 per month, assuming 10% diff increase from now, per month, you will need more than 6 months for that amount

the calculator is pretty accurate, you only need to remove the electricity cost

100TH/s, not 10TH/s. Or whatever, i'm not sure what you're calculating, the numbers don't add up anyways with diff 112B either way.
1406  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Safe way to buy my first S7? on: January 12, 2016, 02:33:27 AM
I think we would all agree buying direct is better option then buying that Craigslist he mentioned.  And that is before you take in fact it sounds he wants BTC 1/2 in advance for Craigslist ad.... which sounds scamy to me still.

Even at the higher B8 price I would still do that over his offer he had.  It is true he could get lucky or not lucky on B9 shipment date no way to say for sure.  So it is a gamble.

Its not much Gambling with craiglist however, its a garanteed "Throwing BTC down the drain." Regardless, the buy now price of S7 is still better than best case scenario with Craiglist so there is not much point in considering the craiglist offer. The PSU from Bitmain is arguably cheap. I would go with an alternative, however. Especially since it need 240v and there are better options here.

For 120v i'd go with Avalon6 no contest, since ATX PSU at that capacity range are still affordable.

I would not consider 240 a lesser option.  It is actually a really good option just not everyone is set up for it.   But for those who can I would go 220/240 go for it.  I really like it in my hobby mining area.

S7 could go on 120 to, its just for a ATX psu with 10 PCIe is so expensive.  There are not many and they are a lot higher then a 240 server psu that is as good if not better on some.

I meant to say that the Bitmain's PSU is 220V+ only AND (the Bitmain PSU) is a lesser option when you have access to 220V+. I'd probably go with some of those packages with J4bs pci-e breakout board and get some ultra kaze or some such to cool the PSU's relatively quietly. Or EVGA psu's that do 220-240V.

I ran my S7 with two PSU for a bit, it worked just fine, it would definitively reduce costs vs a single 1500~1600 or whatever, but its still expensive unless you already have them on hand.
1407  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I have questions about antminer on: January 12, 2016, 02:14:24 AM
I can't guess what your expenses are, so you'd have to tell it to me. What is your electricity rate cost per kWh in USD?.

Also if that would be so much money for you, then you should insure it. The warranty is only 90 days and the Antminer S7 can be prone to breaking. Maybe go with something smaller if your electricity is very cheap.

Also you might want to lay off the custom font, its obnoxious and harder to read.
1408  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] USB Stick Miners on: January 12, 2016, 02:11:56 AM
Greetings - I'm in the market for USB stick miners - pretty much any flavor of them, if the price is right.  Regards! -J5

Sidehack reopened sales so thats probably the best you can get in relation to anything USB stick;

Yes, my tip is get it under 101$USD Tongue And no, the S3 will be 350w~ at the wall easily. You would need an EVGA g2 750w for two, probably.

Thanks a lot for your precious tips. One thing more, I am googling from an hour but i could not find S3 used price to about $101. That would be great if you could give me a direction where i could find in this range.

Directly here on the trading section, or on Ebay. I been finding them for 150CAD shipped and tax, so thats just over 100$, it should be possible to find for cheaper since ebay has fees for the seller.
1410  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New to mining, Help with everything. on: January 12, 2016, 02:03:47 AM
Hello everyone.
So I always new about Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining but never really looked into it in great detail. My friend and I are thinking of starting a miner and have £200 starting money. If any of you guys could be useful and recommend us anything it would be appreciated.
What miner do you recommend? Also I don't understand fully about the psu is it necessary or what?
Also whatever miner you recommend what profit do you think we could get, assume the electricity costs are free.
Any additional information that you can add for us.

Thankss.

I can assume the electricity cost is free, but if its not, you will run the recommendation at great loss, because Euro electricity rates tend to be exorbitant. Either 3-4 Ant S1 + a PSU. Or two S3 if you can get a decent PSU from your own existing stock.

One EVGA bronze 500 watt could support two S3? and you have any tip about buying used Antminer S3?

Yes, my tip is get it under 101$USD Tongue And no, the S3 will be 350w~ at the wall easily. You would need an EVGA g2 750w for two, probably.

Why don't you buy directly from Bitmain. B9 is less than $1100, they may ship earlier than the 20th. My B8 was shipped 2 weeks earlier. Bitmain PSU only works with 240 V, so make sure you have a 240v outlet at home.

If op has the btc a direct purchase from bitmaintech is pretty safe.

But thats more expensive than an Avalon6. Also no import fee with the A6 as it is domestically located. You may also not receive the S7 it for 2-3 weeks and the Avalon6 is a better quality unit.

So its not that much of a clear distinction between which is the best one to grab.

I am guessing OP is based in US, so no import or other fees to pay. You get 1.13 TH more for the same price with Bitmain, and it gets here within 2-3 days after shipment.

What? The B8 is the only thing that could get to the US within a week from Bitmain and the price is much higher than the Avalon 6 AND there are other fees by dealing with Bitmain.

My last B8 was shipped within 24 hours of payment and I got it on the 3rd day. They are selling from stock now, didn't someone already received a B9.

A few have already received batch 9

The possibility of maybe getting a B9 early does not change the fact that it is a 200$ difference with B8. If you want to gamble with B9, go ahead.
1415  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How to setup mining Environment on: January 11, 2016, 11:41:52 PM
I have no issue with electricity, its free for two years from now. I want to buy a hardware which I could bear in my living room, because i have only one room :-) .  So I found Antminer S3. I am going to order a used S3 on amazon. I don't know which type of PSU should I order for one S3. Another thing I would like to mention, 4 hours a day we stay out of electricity due to some short falls. And i need dedicated computer for S3?

The S3 is a self contained unit, it only need to be connected to the router somehow to access the internet. You will only need a networked device to access and change its config. You should get a S3 for 100$USD big max and maybe something like an EVGA bronze to run it, if you're trying to go with the cheapest setup. Beware the noise. The S3 is very very quiet compared to most miners now, but less noisy is still noise.
1416  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S5 power supply difference on: January 11, 2016, 11:39:56 PM
Changing from Corsair to HP ProLiant there is a noticeable increase in watts consumed, around 50-100 watts more for the ProLiant.

In addition the miner runs hotter:
Corsair: 51C / 49C
ProLiant: 55C / 48C

First power supply is: CORSAIR RM Series RM750 750W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD

Second is (http://www.ebay.com/itm/171905659195):
1x HP ProLiant 1000W proprietary hot-swap power supply
1x X-ADAPTER Power Supply Adapter PCB Board
4x 2 wire 6pin 26in 14 AWG Power Supply Cable

Is Corsair better because it runs cooler with less watts per frequency?

No, this only make sense if the ProLiant runs at higher voltage, which means more watt at the same clock, however this means you could stability overclock the miner higher with the ProLiant.

The other thing is the temp difference doesnt really make much sense, the second blade is cooler with the ProLiant, sound more like there is a difference in airflow.

So shying away from this forum is at your own risk. I would take the same concept, go google research for escrow services which they are out there in your own state and usually serves more then one location.

Yeah I've offered up possibly using an escrow service here (OGNAsty I think is who I see a lot?) so maybe he will go for that. And beyond that I've offered paypal as an option. Not sure how much protection would be afforded to me thru Paypal but its better than just sending him the BTC or $$$ directly.

Avoid paying 1/2 upfront though craigslist it sounds highly scamy.  Is he asking for you to pay him in BTC?   Or did he take paypal?

Paypal is reversible if he never sends it.   Bitcoin is not reversible, so if he wants BTC I would avoid unless good escrow of your choice, not his.  Also what is price?  I'm wondering if it's too good to be true and he tries from everyone 1/2 up front as a scam.

Price he's offering is $1400 USD which includes the Bitmain PSU and shipping or 3.0 BTC. I've offered escrow services and paypal and he refuses to do either, so looks like I will most likely have to skip this deal. I don't want to be burned on my first major miner purchase. $1400 may be a small amont to some but with me just entering the scene I dont want to get hosed. I'd rather just wait for a group buy here, but as difficulty is to increase soon the quicker I can get a hold of one the better. Speaking of which anybody know of any coming up? I'd rather not do a hosted group buy as the main goal is to tinker and learn. As always thanks again guys.

Unless you can do it face to face, then don't do it.

You could know the Avalon 6 group buy, Bitmain does not seem to give much rebate on group buy, however there is a big difference for the Avalon 6 price. Specially if youre in the US.

is there ANY way someone could help me trace who stole my funds and try to recover them ?
Please ...

Nearly impossible. Check where the coins went, search for the btc address in google. If you return 0 matches, you have pretty much 0 chance in the world to ever recover it. Even if you track it back to a user on the forum, you're still not getting your coins back.
