3) 1000 hours is 42days. So the all out "damn the torpedoes" over clocking approach may not be such a great idea for the home miner.
4) Internal temperature readings from miners are some sort of average indicator and don't say much about potential hot and cold spots.
While you have some good tidbits of information and warning, you are not applying them correctly in real life situation. At the temperature they run, at worse, hot, with no cooling and bad airflow, it could probably reach 50-60C, thats still several years. At typical temperature in a good PSU with fan on, you're looking at something like rated for 5376 days of 24/7 use. With your own number. Imagine when you have high quality ones. So basically saying ATX PSU are a bad idea can be true, if you buy crap, but you're generalizing and also using numbers that don't make sense. A cap wont be running at 100C at all.

So I'm trying this Miner Pro app on my phone just so I can get my feet wet and learn a little by doing. I was just wondering what would be a good pool to get set up with. I'm guessing that I would be best setting it up on scrypt mode and mining LTC, DOGE, etc but wasn't sure if there were certain pools that are better for this? Any help would be appreciated.
Are you saying you are trying to mine on your phone? If so very bad idea... you are going to push your phone and it will get hot most likely it's not designed for 24x7 being pushed. GPU and CPU mining are done it just does not make enough money. I suggest looking into asics if you truly want to mine, and look at BTC mining as it is best to start off with I think. I probably won't be running it 24/7 but I just wanted to try to accumulate at least some kind of coin before I invest in anything. So far my phone is mining at 2,400khs/s seemingly without getting hot. I'm also doing this on Eligius pool and not sure if it will ever payout anything at this rate. I'm still very new to this and really just wanted to play with it and learn something more so than try to make any money. I figure I'm just trying to get a cheap education. You are wasting your time and stressing your phone for absolutely 0. You wont earn any kind of coin with this, ever. You're looking at 24 satoshi per year. You need a million of these for 0.01 BTC. Get a sidehack USB miner stick if you want the minimalist way of earning dust. Even a one GH/s stick taking 0.5~1watt would equal to 1 000 000 kh/s. And that is still dust you can't do anything with.

Completely changed OP, not a feeler anymore. I also added performance data on the relevant miners. Let me know if there is interest in any more details.

Thanks for the recommendation.
Why am i considering used miners?
Our ROI is basically Earnings/$$ used to buy hardware. Since our electricity costs are negligible, our only costs is the initial cost for the hardware. Thus, it would be best for us to purchase the lowest $$/TH hardware.
Also, If i'm not wrong, i believe warranty is only for first 3 months, and i've read through this forum that the miners should be working most of the time. So I'm thinking of saving costs and achieving ROI A.S.A.P instead of paying a additional premium for the warranty and being "first owner".
Am I right to think about it this way?
Yeah but like the previous user told you, the used S7's are going for the same price or higher than the new S7's. So thats something to check. And yes you are otherwise right and also, if you buy used hardware that ran for a long time, it will probably last for a while longer. When you buy new, maybe its a bad batch. The only thing to keep in mind is, if you buy let say 100 S1's instead of 2 S7's you're going to need a shit ton more wire, a shit ton more power cables, etc. So paying a bit more for higher hashrate density is also worth considering in your $$/TH.

Haven't received a payment since 12/21, looking forward to seeing everything functioning nice and smooth again
Don't worry you will receive it soon if you didn't, if you can see payments started already so it will take a while to finish them all. https://blockchain.info/address/16pe2twTgrjKC8mioPjX3f2UbCMGvWbVz4I make it taking a while after paying to avoid any Service problem (from blockchain or Bitcointalk). Bitcoin Boy. That's just awesome to see the payments started again... Can you also update us with the new bot's address if it's complete now??? Just so curious to see the new bot in work... will do so once payment are do to not confuse, and focus on important tasks first . Bitcoin Boy. PM sent thank you for your all the work. Nice to see bot working. It got PM/email but stat page does not say it yet. I sent PM it appears it just paid one week even though it was almost 2 week's worth of posts. Reply sent I received the message saying 0.07 BTC, thats 100 posts, should be 150 posts limits and for over 2 weeks of posts should be 0.21 BTC~ Also did not receive the amount in Bit-x but i guess thats normal. Hi, I through the limit was 100 posts but no worries, if you have a problem just pm, me and Marco will be check that once he's online. Will do, but anyways over 3 weeks the post limits would be 300 even if it was 100. But i didnt receive the 0.07 either. I'll forward this in PM.

Worked out a deal with VirosaGITS for all his boards and currently waiting on shipment. Great communication. The deal has been concluded, locking for Archival. Thanks for the trade.

Someone just turned the tap back on... In the last 3 Hours we have gone from a running rate of -6% to -3%.
Rich
Today will end up as flat for the day at negative or 0%. Don't know about tomorrow or for the rest of the period however. yep as I believe at least 50 maybe 100 ph is offline at this moment. so we could do 144 blocks or 134 blocks or 170 blocks on sunday. The diff picks are a different game then the have been as power on power off appears to be real and to be practiced. I am still not quite sure as to the why of it. I'm glad they're having problem with their center, but it must still sting to have so much hardware not mining. Thats a pretty hefty loss per day.

Yeah... guess I got unlucky... didn't even have them working for 24h...
So... what are your experiences with Bitmain tech and ordering from them? Can I trust them? Or is it the same russian roulette game?
If you order from them, the thing should be under warranty. So if there is something wrong, it should be fixable, although you would have to ship them back the defective thing at your expenses. What is the PSU you used that burned a bunch of S5 cards? I received them with 2 Corsair CX850M The 12v rail has 70amp over 840w I connected all 4 power connectors and followed Dogies' "how to" My guess is something was wrong with them from the start... maybe they were poorly stored somewhere or so... I don't see how I could burn 2 complete s5's hashboards by just setting them up to my pool and letting them go at standard frequency using the PSU's that came with them in 48h...? I kept a close eye on the temp because I just got them, so I know nothing seemed to be reading out of the ordinary... It's really sad... this gives me a bad after taste of ebay... They're not particularly bad PSU. Not ones you'd expect to surge volt like mad and burn hardware, so thats a bit odd. And if they came in cold, there could be condensation, so you would need to let them heat up and dry off before you plug them in but i'm not sure they would die like that, after a while. I'm stumped. If its any consolation, the boards are worth something for salvage.

Well that's the thing, until I gave him a bad trust rating he didn't have anything showing. Just had a 0/0 trust rating.
Oh well, I went and did a police report and asked them what steps they would have me take. They told me to make a report with the federal trade commission and at least that way they could get the site taken down. If more people were scammed and are willing to report, PM me. The more people I can get to come forward the more serious they will take it. I'm also in the process of contacting his service provider and also payment provider to alert them of the scam, but that will have to wait until Monday.
You should of went to his profile and checked his trust feedbacks, you would of seen about 10 red messages saying he was not to be trusted. If you did not see him as red trust warning, it is because your trust setting are at depth 2, so only feedback from default trust are being counted. Set it to depth 3 and you will see a more accurate reading on their trust. But the trust rating does not mean anything anyways, you need to go read the feedbacks and see if the previous experience with this user warrant trusting him. I think you, and i dont blame you per se, but people like you always get scammed from scammers because it has not been proven that the person is a scammer. Basically until they see red trust on their account. But trading with a red trust is the same as trusting with someone with no trust, 0/0. So trading with a 0/0 or someone not labeled red trust is a wrong approach. The way reality work is "do not trust unless proven otherwise". You trust sellers on Ebay because Ebay guarantee your money. The same when you go to a store, or anything else. People are spoiled they don't even realize why they trust or do not trust something. The gold world has and still is "Do not trust unless proven trustworthy."
|
|
|
I'd say i told you so, and so the other many person who left that person a red trust, but then no point beating a dead horse. Could you post this in scam accusation, just to make it clear? Thanks. Edit: Disregard, i see you did, now. Sorry for your losses. I wish others would learn from your mistakes but then again, probably not. People get scammed from people marked as scammer, still. I wish people were taking escrow more seriously. Especially when said potential scammer has red flashing warning under his name saying he is not to be trusted.

does anyone know what it's called the connector that is being put to the psu? because I do not trust the traditional cord of the classic psu supplied I think they are small 0.75mm
You mean the power cord for the PSU or the PCI-e cable you use to connect into the miners? You'll want 16 AWG for the PCI-e and probably a short 12AWG for the PSU.

You can lower the fan speed percentage to 33% then the sound will be better -Also i was thinking if you put the miner in a sound isolating box and leave 2 wholes for the air (in/out). - or to connect the miner's exhaust to a PVC pipe that is lined with foam Somehow it should be a solution to make the s7 housefriendly and really quiet http://www.wpb-radon.com/Radon_fan_noise.html#quiet%20fanwhat do you guys think ? Can work and help but a lot of noise is omnidirectional. What i think is Sonopan; http://pacwestsystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Alcor-Sonopan-Acoustical-Panel.pdfI'm building a box of it around solid plastic shelves, so far its a nice difference. In a bit i'll be able to tell what it does for a S7, but i should be able to make it completely silent.

If any of the 6 people with tubes are on - just to let you know I'll be restarting the nonce proxy in 10 minutes in an attempt to fix a problem for one miner. Hopefully all should be OK with a restart, but the way it works is rather finicky so I thought I'd mention it if anyone is awake Edit: in case it wasn't obvious, this affects the 6 users pointing at the nonce proxy, no one else. Edit2: done ... now waiting to see if it fixed the problem (takes a few minutes) (Edit3: yep problem fixed) If you had not said anything, i would not have known, i did not even notice my hashrate drop for one second. I'm also not the unlucky miner owner i believe. You're very transparent in your pool operation.

You really are better off buying brand new directly from Bitmain. You will at least get 90 days warranty.
I'm definitely considering both options. I have discussed with several people that wanted to sell them and they all clung to high prices, 2.8 is lowest i got. I bought one for 2.6 from Bitmain instead and soon the price will be close to 2BTC.

What are you paying on S5's?
I am not buying S5's anymore, but i would guess they're around 0.6~0.7 BTC+shipping now.
|
|
|
I know this isn't related to your post but did you try undervolting the S4 for better efficiency ?
Yeah, a bit, but i'm running them at 0710~ for 1.99TH/s. I'd rather sell them than drop them to say 1TH/s for 600 watts, though i guess they would be quiet as hell then.
