2401  Other / Meta / Re: The unsung heroes of Bitcointalk on: September 13, 2022, 12:51:52 PM
If you're talking of only people who returned  wrongly transferred Bitcoin to their addresses as unsung heroes, then you might as well add EZ0010 for what they did here by also returning Bitcoin that was wrongly sent to them by theymos. Don't get me wrong, I ain't saying such an act was a mean feat in a world of moral bankruptcy, I'm simply saying there should be more to the unsung hero tag. Like Pharmacist said (I also second their argument in that direction, those who've quietly been helping this community grow should own that glowing appellation.

I really don't know what yo make of that tweet. So, I decided to ask here. How true is that because I believe next halving will be in 2024.

2403  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Going 3x this month for swing trading worth it? (Position closed, half price) on: September 13, 2022, 08:07:01 AM
Yes its quite risky. 3x leverage is a conservative I saw some with 50x to 100x and its movement could be way more profit but also a huge risk to being liquidated. $1k usd is a huge money, so thinking of using that on spot trading and risking it with potential multiplier on altcoins than a very dangerous approach of future trading.
Leveraging on 3x is very conservative like you've noted. It's almost like doing it the spot way. My thinking is embedded in the African saying – If one wants to eat frogs, one should eat the very rotund or plump ones so that one can thump one's chest when called a frog eater. If one wants to trade Futures, one should take the risk and not be lily-livered like a sissy. Lately, I'm beginning to develop interest in Futures trading. I play around 10x to 20x and it's not even of too much risk, provided there's always a SL to cushion any downside. Again, there's also that display window for liquidation level. So, it's not as if the risks are hidden.
2404  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It Is Dangerous To Completely Rely On Cryptocurrencies on: September 13, 2022, 07:23:55 AM
Some people have lost their lives as a result of completely depending on cryptocurrencies due to the unexpected market downturn. Some people even committed suicide as a result of the last big decline in cryptocurrency’s price in the market. Whatever happens to you in this life, it doesn't justify ending it on your own.
Frankly, anyone who ends their life (a life they didn't create) because of the loss they incur trading is an idiot! Simple and short. I've no pity for such an individual because there's a caveat almost on all trading sites warning traders of the risky nature of trading. Only those who see cryptocurrency trading as a shortcut to riches throw in all they've into it and when they get burnt no one should've pity on them.

On the other hand, whether cryptocurrency or not, it's not ideal to rely solely on just one source of income. Expand your horizon and engage in other businesses.
2405  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 1k to 10k Challenge Update, I MADE IT! on: September 13, 2022, 01:51:56 AM
~snipped~
that's nice suggestion by updating this thread. Op is excited because of it's achievement and i believe that the achievement is something a somebody who is curious can achieve, because if you are not minded you can not achieve such with the space of 19 day according to op. I personally applaud op for the achievement.
I beg to disagree with you on that, GeorgeJohn. Trading isn't something of strength but of skills. No matter how one is determined or curious, without acquiring the skills for trading one isn't likely to become profitable. According to OP, that wasn't their first time of overstretching themselves on trading challenge. OP is succeeding at such a herculean task, given the limited time, because they've the set skills for it. It's not just because they're intentional.
2406  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Money but from where on: September 12, 2022, 01:56:57 PM
But of course, I thought as much. I merely used that trading instance as an isolated case to buttress the knowledge hoarding mentality of mankind. Even when the businesses are far apart from each other, people still won't want to share knowledge.

Likewise, I had a job like this for a while. There was a closed group, which included only people we knew, and we did simple work on the network. We were paid for this, but the organizers were ready to accept even more people, which did not suit us completely. We just worked harder and as a result, the pay was decent, but if we expanded our company, then, you know, we would lose in earnings.
This is what my countrymen will call, "work and quench" 🤪. You and your colleagues didn't want to leave anything on the table for extra hands. Sometimes, overworking oneself has its negative effect on one's health too.
2407  Economy / Speculation / Re: Purchased at $23,500, when should I start to panic? When should I average down? on: September 12, 2022, 01:33:19 PM
I think I made a mistake buying at $23,500 (obviously), so when should I really start to panic now that we dropped to $18K?
This type of question doesn't make any sense to me. At least, logically it doesn't. Just $5k drop from your purchased price and you're already panicking? Come on, you aren't a baby, are you? There's a reason for that investment caveat – Don't invest cash you can't afford to lose or be willing to let go of. On a side note, you should think of those who bought at peak and console yourself with that. At least, I ain't aware that any of them has committed suicide yet now that price isn't great. BTW, if this would be any consolation for you, Bitcoin is heading back to $23k. Current price is $22,333.51 as I type this.
2408  Other / Archival / Re: Mods are constantly trying to put the thread in the altcoin section on: September 12, 2022, 01:10:02 PM
Why is the moderator constantly moving this topic: "If you don't understand where the yield is coming from, you are the yield." to Altcoin Discussion?
Pushing it to the Altcoin Discussion section will automatically make a mess of it because of the expected spam that will ensure there and the warning for which it was made will be lost. I think posts like that which seek to warn the community of possible deception and scam, especially newbies should either be placed in the Beginners & Help or Services sections; not altcoins. Those two sections are arguably the most visited parts of the forum by newbies.
2409  Other / Meta / Re: Identifying the OP at a glance (SMF patch) on: September 12, 2022, 10:13:09 AM
Well, I don't see how that should be a problem. They will all get around it, one way or the other.
It's not going to be a big problem because theymos added an explanation field to the word "OP". Hover your mouse over it and it explains that OP is the person who started the thread.
Regardless of the fact that I expect anyone who's lost stumbling on new words to search them out, I believe most people here will know what OP means. It's often used (I use it often, and I've seen a lot of others use it too). About the mouse–hovering thing, you ought to know that not everyone here makes use of desktops and PCs to make posts. Mobil phone users are plenteous here too and that facility isn't available to them 🤔. I speak for myself anyway.

but eventually everyone will get used to it.
Definitely, of course. We learn everyday.
2410  Other / Meta / Re: Identifying the OP at a glance (SMF patch) on: September 12, 2022, 08:52:46 AM
...because I can guarantee it, not everyone will know what "OP" stands for.
Well, I don't see how that should be a problem. They will all get around it, one way or the other. After all, we still have veteran members here who don't understand what CFNP on campaign threads means; even when those letters hang there in capital letters.

On the new development, I observed it today; just a while ago. I like the chosen style - B. It's kind of silent, yet you know it's there. At least, we get to find out at a glance who an OP is if we stumbled on their comments midway. @PowerGlove, you've shown the programmer in you. Keep it up.
2411  Other / Meta / Re: Am I allowed to throw a small giveaway? on: September 12, 2022, 07:59:42 AM
~snipped~
That's most probably because any low value project would start making such giveaways - for advertising purpose - handing out some shitcoins or tokens with no value.
In that case, two options could be applied to counter such deception – first, low ranked accounts shouldn't be allowed to announce freebies. Secondly, the freebies should be offered in BTC or any stable or tradable tokens.

Edited, to add the below quote and comment:

Woah I didnt know this thread gonna blow up, I got a bit confused how can I give it away? it doesnt matter if its in LTC/BTC/ETH I can do top 10 coins without a problem so please quote me after this what I should do thank you all <3
Sounds like a more tempting offer now. I hope someone directs you alright now that you've listed some reputable coins for it. I wish you good luck.
2412  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Money but from where on: September 12, 2022, 07:45:06 AM
In addition, those who have some sources of income will not direct everyone in a row, thereby creating competitors for themselves.
You know, I've often tried to find out why a great deal of people hoard knowledge but I haven't been able to place my finger on it to be holistically on the basis of rivalry. I ain't saying we can completely rule out rivalry or the need to protect one's businesses but that isn't all to it. Let's take trading for an instance. Why do people hoard that knowledge which gives them near perfect entries? A trader's winnings won't stop another from winning, does it? Of course, not. Despite that, we still find traders who don't like to share their strategies. Take for instance, Trader A who lives in Canada could be trading on Kucoin while Trader B lives in Dubai and trades on Hotbit, there's little or no chance at all for rivalry. However, the human ego of being the best in any field of endeavour will still make any of the traders who is profitable still hoard information.
2413  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading and financial planning. on: September 12, 2022, 07:02:41 AM
Perhaps OP, planning and execution are all we need to have a successful trading life as this it serves as a guide to where we do.
But unfortunately, it found out that in many cases, we ruined our plan due to some reasons like discouragement, change of mind, and being impatient. We must have to know that there is no easy money in crypto, even though we have this plan it doesn't mean that we are already secure and surely make a profit, and to note that decision-making will also affect the results of our plan and this is mostly a reason why we fail.
In addition to all you said, having the set skills for trading is paramount. The skills for the job here is what many traders downplay and they eventually pay for it. I've had my fingers burnt too on this. We can blame instructors or mentors who always like coating the idea of trading to look like it's a shortcut to easy riches. They tell you how easy they pull out earnings on daily basis from trading, they screenshot and doctor trades to suit their narratives with the aim of hoodwinking unsuspecting public. They're profitable on pictures but not on platforms they trade. Traders should be weary of such salesmen who have proved themselves not to be real traders.

Learning and having set trading skills are a necessity.
2414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Queen Elizabeth and Cryptocurrency on: September 11, 2022, 08:01:40 PM
She is 96. She had seen a lot of sufferings in her time. I guess she's lucky enough not to see more of the sufferings that are to come. RIP Queen Elizabeth.
What sufferings are you talking about that the queen saw? I guess you wanted to say the sufferings she supervised and melted out on others by her country's involvement in some obnoxious deals and crises. Take that away, I will like to say that the queen lived a well spiced luxury life till her demise.

Come to think of it, and that's preempting devs, there are definitely going to be new shitcoins in the name of the deceased queen. There are no two ways about that. The investing public should be cautious about cryptos with such name.

Thank you for your kind words of motivation, I am impressed.
It's okay. There's no other way I could've put it other than how I did and that's an honest way of stating a fact. By the way, you may want to report a few of your posts that haven't been merited which you think are merit deserving at [Merit] Share your best posts/threads with Fillippone to be merit assessed, a thread started a few days ago by Fillippone. Kindly peruse the OP and follow the instruction.

Here are the registration timestamps:

(u=553628) September 09, 2015, 10:41:21 PM
(u=553629) September 09, 2015, 10:46:20 PM

So in this case, there was a ~10 minute window (can't know that ahead of time obviously, have to get lucky) to create a new account and get the number that you expected to.
Obviously, anyone with that level of knowledge on a forum they're just registering on couldn't have been a newbie upon registration. They must've been on the forum quite a while before registering that account.

As regards funny usernames, what about xuO4k04c6Ng They made 1 post and
probably forgot their complicated usernames.

I'm sure this has happened a good few times?
I won't be surprised if that was actually what happened. I hate stuff being made complicated. It's best to keep stuff really simple. If not for hacks and all that, I would be keeping my passwords very easy to remember without having to write them down on paper. Let alone monikers.
2417  Other / Meta / Re: joker_josue Merit Source Application - to encourage the Portuguese community on: September 11, 2022, 02:39:22 PM
OP, I like the local dimension you're taking it from. It takes who knows to know who knows, as they will say in my local parlance. Native speakers will better understand and appreciate posts in their dialects and can appropriately merit them. I've seen a few posts written in local dialects I don't understand but they were good contents upon my check with translator. Sadly, those posts weren't merited. I couldn't fathom why. I believe that with users asking and meriting only local posts, it will encourage local threads to be active. I hope more users from different local boards will come up with this idea too. It's a nice development.
2418  Other / Meta / Re: What's minor thing that you find appreciative on Bitcointalk? on: September 11, 2022, 01:12:07 PM
I like that it doesn't count post 'edited' if you edit just after posting the comment/topic.
I don't really know to what extent of a hysteria posters will be thrown into if all signature campaigns make it a criteria to qualify eligible posts. Those edited will be disqualified. I believe it will cause the type of panic introduction of the merit system caused.

I like that many people here get paid to participate.
Bitcointalk is literally known for that, I wouldn't call it 'minor thing'.
Don't be too certain that those outside this forum know that. I didn't know there was a forum one could make posts and get paid until I stumbled onto this form.

Something I find minor but glad it happens is when I see forum members extend hands of fellowship and help to others, especially when focused and hardworking posters who are in need of merits are helped to rank up. It gladdens my heart.
2419  Other / Meta / Re: Am I allowed to throw a small giveaway? on: September 11, 2022, 12:49:21 PM
While I understand that the rules are there to avoid mindless spam, I also feel for users like OP and maybe we can do something about it.
I mean, look at the sheer number of (nice!) raffles in collectible section. Maybe we should somehow find a solution for this?
Honestly, I don't understand why there's a rule against it. If someone has good intention to bless others with a raffle or freebies, it shouldn't be stopped. I guess something must've happened in the past that made theymos institute that restriction to forestall a further abuse of opening threads for giveaways but we should realize that times have changed and I think that ban should be revisited and reviewed.

Quote
Giveaway with no rules means some may create 100s of new accounts to participate. Maybe you want to do better  Wink
Yes, there should be rules guiding such activity. We shouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater. There should exist a mechanism to sieve through or punishment when offenders are caught just like what happens with those who abuse campaigns with alts.
2420  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Scalping, my best trading strategy on: September 10, 2022, 08:01:10 PM
Scalping may be a good option for traders with little crypto trading experience.
That's a wrong submission. In fact, a very wrong one that should be discouraged. Whether scalping, day or swing trading, there should a deep grip on set skills for trading. Otherwise, one will end up gambling away one's capital.

Quote
Scalping comes with low risk when compared to day trading.
This again isn't accurate. Perhaps, you're just starting out in trading. Every old hand will tell you that Day trading gives one an ease better than what happens with scalping. There's much risk (unnecessarily too) in scalping than in others. Again, scalpers tend to make much profit in commission for brokers/exchanges than day traders because of their numerous executions of trades. At every trade entry point, commission is charged.
