1521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: FTT comeback on: April 16, 2023, 04:55:07 AM
Indeed that is what we noticed and i don't know how they would managed to recover their reputation and trust from their users..
My honest take on this is simply once bitten, twice shy. I don't know how many investors that will want to trust their hard earned money again to them or new investors who will want to risk it. I won't try it. I tried cashing in on FTT during that fateful day of its collapse. Of course, I got burnt. The manner of its collapse is something that needs to be studied intently at any faculty specifically dedicated to fraud. FTT's purported comeback may mean an attempt to hit investors a second time. After all, a snake only shades its skin to become a bigger snake, and not to change into a less harmful animal.
1522  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter plans to offer buying and selling of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on: April 16, 2023, 03:43:36 AM
They are all rumors:

Even if they are to be true, I don't really see any good thing that it can add to Bitcoin
But of course, it will certainly add something to Bitcoin; no doubt. It will get more exposure for Bitcoin usage. Twitter is social medium with the speed of light. News on it get passed across rapidly than on other social media outlets. However, I wonder why the rumour is on Bitcoin and not on Dogecoin because I know Elon Musk to be a big supporter of Dogecoin more than he supports Bitcoin.
1523  Other / Meta / Re: why bitcointalk don't advertise anywhere. on: April 15, 2023, 02:34:19 PM
This forum doesn't function the way you think, for me it would be a shameful thing for a world number 1 digital currency forum is being advertised on social media and any other place...
I don't see what should be the shame in it at all. There's nothing wrong in advertising for more spread and awareness even when it's a known fact that the product is a leader in the specific industry. A few years ago Coca cola used to be the global leader in soft drinks (it could still be argued that it remains the leader till date, anyway) but that never stopped it from advertising more. So, to that effect I don't see anything wrong with BTT advertising on social media to create more awareness and gain more traffic. No business should think itself bigger than its clientele.
1524  Economy / Reputation / Re: How secure are you when unknown user chats you up? on: April 15, 2023, 12:38:10 PM
Please I would love to get your reasoning concerning his or her actions.
I think they ask for the country one is chatting them from to know if one is from the region/country they think is susceptible to gullibility and can easily dole out cash when demanded. You even tried engaging them (I'm sure that was a male. Don't mind the female profile picture on display). I don't waste time with them. For me, anyone that chats me up first raises my inner antenna to suspect a scammer is on the loose. The next few sentences they make will be the decider for me. I hate to indulge and waste time with them.
1525  Economy / Reputation / Re: 10 years of Bitcointalk (and Bitcoin) on: April 15, 2023, 11:47:12 AM
And I can say first hand that I am preparing something that I believe you will like.
If it's a feast, count me in. If it's orgy, nah 🤪

Congrats, JJ! A decade isn't child's play. It's a milestone. I look forward to mine too. I'm already six here. It's been a wonderful and thrilling experience in most cases with little skirmishes I would say for me. Like you, my Bitcoin experience also began here. I hope to be much better by the time I clock 10 here too.
1526  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pretend hack on: April 15, 2023, 10:31:34 AM
Twitter is the most dangerous place for any crypto investors vs Telegram, on Telegram you are going go get PMed and that's purely wrong and suspicious but on Twitter, you really can't tell the difference some times...
In the past, I participated in social media bounties here and that had me experiencing so many obvious scam projects, false airdrops and promotions. Like you said, it's easier to identify scams on Telegram than on Twitter but both are headquarters of fraud. Yes,scammers are often in a haste on Telegram, so their impatience will make them private chat their targets and that's a red flag. On Twitter, scammers just drop links and then wait for their traps to catch their preys. They don't rush. For me, I don't take anything crypto investment or giveaway on Twitter seriously any more.
1527  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It's alright to lose and learn on: April 15, 2023, 09:00:48 AM
It is alright.
It is normal
Moreover to lose and then to learn from the experiences that have big lessons about losing. This is because we need certain experiences to make us aware of what we are going to do.
The "No pains, no gains" ideology exemplifies this. Those who go to gyms will easily relate to it. The lesson from losses shouldn't be lost on traders. It should serve as bumps for sobre reflection and not as discouragement. Set backs and failures are necessary ingredients for greater heights, depending on how they're handled.
1528  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is back testing in trading and how we do it ? on: April 15, 2023, 08:17:13 AM
#Warning: Backtesting doesn't often work for indicators, they will trick you, forwardtesting is better in this regard. But for strategies like Price action, Trendline diagram, Fibonacci retracement and breakout and Elliot wave theory, it will work, but they have to be done manually to be accurate.
Perhaps you should've added that it doesn't work with "lagging" indicators or indicators that repaint and not that backtesting doesn't actually work at all. How does one guage the present and future if one doesn't review the past? It's not possible. This is where backtesting comes in. For me, I started with those MAs, Fibs, MACD, until I discovered they lag. They reflect price after price has moved from that point, and not before it happens. Now I rely more on leading indicators of S&R, Trendlines and Pivots. They lead price action. In conclusion, anyone who wants to take trading seriously should backrest their strategies before hand.
1529  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: how will it be? on: April 14, 2023, 07:08:55 PM
Bitcoin price is currently 28k and I have 5k usd fund which I want to invest in crypto currency, and want to make this investment for long term, want to wait until next ATH or touch current ATH.
I had to do a little playback in my head. You know, in 2019 that $5k of yours would've bought you slightly more than one Bitcoin because price dipped to $3,200 even. That would've been around 1½ in quantity. Given today's worth, that would've been around $45k. All that happening within just four years and it would've done X9 of your initial investment. It's because of events like this that make a lot of investors conclude that hodling is the best approach to amassing wealth in cryptocurrency.
1530  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not own Bitcoin but like to discuss about Bitcoin on: April 14, 2023, 09:57:49 AM
Do anyone else not own Bitcoin but like to discuss about Bitcoin like me?
Every day, I still read news about Bitcoin and check its price, but currently, I don't own any Bitcoin. Lol.
This isn't shocking to me, to say the least honestly. It's the same way we've so many people masquerading as traders and giving trading tips and advice without knowing how to trigger trades or read charts. I see them here a lot. It's amusing when I come across such but then what they stand to gain is what beats my imagination.

As for the OP, how do you feel when Bitcoin (that you often talk about knowingly with the awareness that price will rise) begins to soar? From your date of registration here you've seen two full Bitcoin circles. How did you handle such in the past, also especially now that we're about witnessing another Bitcoin halving, and you don't have any Bitcoin? I asked with a honest intention as I want to be educated on that mindset.
1531  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S should embraced bitcoin on: April 14, 2023, 08:41:47 AM
Since the inception of Joe Biden, he never wish bitcoin to exist in America because when he was campaigning against Trump, he stated clearly that Americans will not use it's resources to promote crypto assets as that will add threats to America economy.
That's the problem with electing old senile men who are bereft of ideas of technology to the presidency. What do they know about Bitcoin? Next to nothing. Most of them don't even want to bend down and learn this thing or take advice from experts on financial matters. It's a similar situation I foresee in Nigeria if old Bola Tinubu is eventually allowed to rule the country. His administration is going to be anti-Bitcoin.
1532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has a bad reputation (we should fix it) on: April 14, 2023, 08:08:50 AM
Like would it be good if we could create a system that somehow will make the life of criminals who use Bitcoin harder?
You've been here almost as long as I've been as we got registered on this forum the same year. As such, I believe you've seen worse days for Bitcoin than we've now. Remember, in 2017 and the years before it we had the tag of Bitcoin being a bubble? Do we still have people think that way today? Of course not. The thing is that no matter how good or bad something is there are going to be people who will take a divergent view on it. If you asked me, I would say Bitcoin is having a better time now that in the past. More people are becoming fans, and many more are going to join as time goes on.

Before the advent of Bitcoin, we had all kinds of criminal activities involving fiat. So, we shouldn't make it look like money laundering and financial criminalities are coming up because of Bitcoin.
1533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Airdrop gains tracker on: April 13, 2023, 01:38:49 PM
If I want to know airdrops is I only do a search in google and whatever result Is what I would use to check and also searching if the project is legit. What I found when I search a website with list of airdrops are https://airdropking.io/en/ and https://airdrops.io/ or whatever showed in the results.
You've to be careful while at it. So many of those airdrops will end up stealing from you by tricking you to click links infested with malware and then hack your wallet. A few weeks ago, I had a certain Web4 Ai token airdropped into my Trust Wallet wallet in an appreciable quantity. I did nothing about it, not even thinking twice to claim it. It was later someone drew my attention to it that it was a scam. Normally, I don't pay attention to tokens I find in my wallet if I didn't buy them. I always regard them as one of those scam attempts.
1534  Other / Meta / Re: Messages for deleted posts - from 4 years ago? on: April 13, 2023, 08:28:19 AM
If you received email notifications for your deleted posts, it means those posts were deleted individually by moderators.

If your posts belong to a thread which was reported then deleted by forum moderators, you will not get email notifications.
Why do we've double standard for deletion, then? Is there any explanation for such?
1535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am now a Bitcoin investor on: April 11, 2023, 08:01:19 PM
I recently purchased 0.0045 Bitcoins which is still present in my trust wallet I believe with me owning a fraction of the worlds Bitcoin although a very tiny fraction in practical I am now a crypto currency investor  in essence a Bitcoin investor
Kudos, OP. Don't weigh what you've as a mere fraction. That 0.0045 is $135 in today's worth. So, you see? It's not really that small. I bet you, you can still find veteran members who don't even have a single satoshi they're hodling. They buy or earn and then convert into fiat almost immediately they've it. Just continue buying.
1536  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What happens If Binance Exchange Flee Away like FTX on: April 11, 2023, 06:21:36 PM
As Binance currently holds more than 60 billions of dollars and that's to much money. And I cannot believe if all money might gone than Bitcoin might come to 10000 dollars. Let's hope for good and what are your thoughts in this.
The picture you painted there is really one of doom if it ever came to that. No, not doom for Bitcoin per se but for the entire crypto space. I know Bitcoin is a phoenix; a cat with nine lives. It will surely rise from any dip. The problem will be with altcoins. They will dip like mad. Again, I'm looking beyond Binance as an exchange (the largest in trading volume and most trusted on the score, unarguably) to its affiliates and subsidiaries. What happens to them all? What becomes the fate of Trust Wallet, and the funds in it? In fact, I wish this hypothetical catastrophe away immediately.
1537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much effort should one put into Bitcoin investments on: April 11, 2023, 03:43:14 PM
Bitcoin investments is a very promising investment which although seems to be of long term returns.most persons are not patient enough to wait till the value of Bitcoins rise significantly.
In other relative investments they can afford to wait but with Bitcoin I often wondered where their rush came from until I realized that it won't be far from that misconception of Bitcoin being a shortcut to wealth. It's on crypto (and possibly in gambling) that someone expects their $10 stake/investment to turn $1,000 overnight. I ain't saying it doesn't happen but it shouldn't be the regular mindset of any investor. Everyone should've that mindset of profit and loss while going into any investment, cryptos inclusive.

Quote
Soo in general how much should one invest in Bitcoin should it be "how much you can easily invest without stress " or "as much as you can invest at all cost"
Yes, it should be according to your capacity and what you can afford to lose.
1538  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Another scam email attempt on: April 11, 2023, 03:30:34 PM
I also received a similar email I thought that the sender made a wrong sent, like you I never use a camera on my desktop so how he can possibly do a screenshot or even record this a random message in a hope that he can victimize those who suits up to his descriptions and allegations, but one thing never reply to that email or he will get the impression that you are reading all of your emails and he will have a clue on what kind of a person you are and he will devise a plan to victimize you next time he sent an email.
It's just their usual copy and paste random mails sent out. Whoever fits in their description begins to get unnecessarily agitated, thinking the sender knows them. You see why it's said that only the guilty are afraid? Anyone who isn't into any of that shitty stuff described will just conclude it was a wrongly sent email and then move on. For me, I've a bad habit of not clicking on links; especially if I ain't expecting anything from such sites. I killed my curiosity a long time ago on stuff like that. I don't get curious to find out stuff from random strangers asking me to click on stuff. Nope, it doesn't work with me. Again, I seldomly check my junk folder. I only check on occasion I'm expecting mails that haven't delivered and the sender insists they've sent it.
1539  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you still advised more buy and store? on: April 11, 2023, 03:16:26 PM
So advise me on what to do! Should I hold on because of the instabilities in price? Or I should buy and store? Over to you
If you've spare cash that won't conflict with your responsibility to your family, please buy all you can. Also, remember that we're heading into a bull season because of the Bitcoin halving that's drawing near us in 2024. So, you should be looking at a long term investment when buying it if you're to enjoy your actions. Your fear of price instabilities shouldn't be a thing to worry about. Nothing in the market stays steady in terms of price. If it does it will be very boring to invest in. If you can, do a DCA on Bitcoin and gradually build up your hodling.
1540  Other / Meta / Re: Making new messages more obvious (SMF patch) on: April 11, 2023, 12:41:18 PM
Why did you decide to choose the White color for a Notification dot?

I think of two better colors: Red and Orange.
Yeah, I think so too but I would rather choose red than orange. For me, it stands out and flashes the eyes better. It isn't for nothing that it's used to indicate "danger"

About new messages, I do believe that it's better to have the forum alert users by default through notification whenever they log in telling them they have new messages and if they would like to open it then or later. With that no one misses any message.

However, I want to admit that those who don't have the habit of reading messages will still not read. So, it's not even about choosing to boldface or sparkle the notification with bright colour that should matter.
