2421  Other / Meta / Re: [PETITION] Create a "Get your funds out of exchanges" in Important Announcements on: November 15, 2022, 10:36:43 AM
I hope the step you have taken to incorporate the suggestions can bring more attention to crypto users frequenting the forum (especially newbies) to the realities of how an exchange heading to bankruptcy can literally ruin them financially as they will never be reunited with their funds again. If anything, they might be fortunate enough to receive a tiny amount of their original holdings several years down the line after lawyers, liquidators and administrators have mostly emptied out what they recovered.

Thanks for your comments: I incorporated several suggestions. I think that the usefulness of this announcement decays with every passing hour, so I went ahead and posted it. I'll also link to it in the news bar for a couple of weeks. The post can still be edited, of course.

Toney was out to send a well-deserved message to Southgate for leaving him out of the World Cup squad with his current scoring form, which I didn't understand while he was left out, and this is his 10th goal this season.
Competition was tough but choosing Wilson over Toney seems to have been a mistake especially on current form and the fact Wilson has regular injury issues.

4 losses in the last 5 games, our losses no longer surprise me. I've never been this confident betting against my own team, the lack of quality to string a simple 4 passes per game, and the coach picks aren't helping either. He's been here for months and is still experimenting with his lineup every fucking game. None of our summer signings have contributed or adapted to the team; they were far good under TT than what we are seeing now. I'm glad we're going into the World Cup knowing we're shit, and I hope the players return better after the World Cup. I feel sorry for Potter; he already appears to be befuddled by the situation.
How much time will Potter be given for his experiments? He has already been shown grace by the fans and the owners but missing out on a top 4 finish will be a disaster for Chelsea.

It was such a dramatic finish in the Fulham vs Manchester United match. Garnacho's goal was really impressive to me. After a one-two with Eriksen, Garnacho made a really great run into the penalty area and finished it decently. He really saved his team there.

De Gea was great as always. He made really great and important saves. Otherwise they could have even lost this match. Rashford and Martial wasted big goal opportunities. They could have won this easier at the same time if they were more capable of finishing. Besides there was a mistake by Martinez on Fulham's goal. He was sleeping I assume because he didn't even try to cut the ball by sliding.
Garnacho brought on a new dimension of attacking football when he was brought on as a substitute, Fulham did not know how to cope with him eventually he scored the winning goal. De Gea did make crucial saves again but Martial more than Rashford really did waste opportunities.

Having said that the World Cup is about to begin and for that reason the Premier League has been paused until 26th December 2022.

2426  Other / Meta / Re: Not Your Keys Not your Coins Banner Needed Everywhere? on: November 12, 2022, 04:39:48 PM
This is a valid point of concern because when exchanges are sinking they take down their investors funds with them. Having said that, will theymos allow for the banner display to happen?

I cannot see him adding a not your keys not your coins banner (especially for free) as a warning no matter how much momentum the campaign gathers. Even paid banner advertising was discontinued therefore if financial gain or placement of free public announcement for benefit of the community will not sway his opinion, then what will?

Is something like this what you mean?

Title says it all, with yet another disaster going on with the exchanges imploding should there be a constant banner someplace that just keeps the NYKNYC message up?
Across the top between where it says Bitcoin Forum on the left and simple machines forum on the right just the Not Your Keys Not your Coins text up there.

Call it subminimal messaging, call it keeping it in the public eye, whatever. Just so it's there.

Counterpoint: What I keep saying, we are an internet forum....not your mom.

Just a thought. If it saves some people some money it may be worth it.

2427  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2022/2023 on: November 12, 2022, 04:21:15 PM
Brentford look dangerous every time they ventured forward. In the end, they probably deserved to win as Manchester City could not find the end product after stringing passes upon passes together.

De Bruyne had a very poor game, his passing was atrocious and it was him that could not get to the ball first which led to the Brentford winning goal from a counter-attack. A shocking game by De Bruyne considering the high levels he has set himself and everybody is used to. Haaland hardly got the ball, the service to him was almost non-existent therefore without the ball being at his feet he was unable to cause Brentford any damage.

It was a huge surprise to see Manchester City losing to Brentford home by 2-1 today. I guess that nobody was expecting such result. Manchester City were the highly favoured side obviously and I expected a more comfortable win from them after having struggles against Fulham. They were actually completely dominant against Brentford today.

However there was something really wrong when it comes to their shots on target. Only 6 out of 29 goal attempts in total were on target. This was a really weak stats for them and they scored only one goal out of this. Brentford gave them a football lesson by having very effective attacks despite coming much rarer than their opponent. Brentford had a very productive day at the same time. 8 out of 10 shots were on target and it was a really dramatic win for them as well. Toney scored the winning goal in literally the last moments. He was definitely the player of the match by scoring 2 goals.

2429  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX Finally Files For Bankruptcy After Binance Refused Bailout on: November 12, 2022, 10:08:13 AM
Honestly its not a shock at all. Binance didn't look like they were going to really support them and keep them alive at all, I really doubt that they would that to begin with and the talks didn't look real. This isn't anyone but their fault, there can't be "oh it happened because X happened" or whatever, you have customers funds in your exchange, customers trade, you earn money, there is absolutely no way to make a loss out of this. You either get hacked, or you give money that you do not own, and make a mistake because of that, there is nothing else at all. This is purely CEO's and every other worker that had any say in this fault, and nobody else is responsible and after so much money is lost, I hope that they will get some big punishment, CEO should be even jailed for a while.
In a way it suits Binance if serious competitors are moved out of the way therefore the only way Binance would have gained something is by taking over FTX rather than loan it funds. Having said that, Binance allege there was $8 billion of investor funds misappropriated from FTX therefore like any venture firm should avoid getting involved. FTX denied misappropriating customer funds but the fact is has filed for bankruptcy means something went seriosuly wrong.

Kind of surprised, probably CZ started to think like Elon?

Binance niw stands as the only big exchange but this can be a reason for the people to start realising and never ever trust the centralized exchanges and also bring the decentralisation into the reality in the trading as well.
The only businesses and people that do not seem to want widespread usage of decentralised exchanges are the big centralised exchanges and people that own them. They make phenomenal amounts of money in commission and these exchanges when they go bust leave behind a trail of human suffering mostly in the form of ordinary investors cutting back on their weekly family expenses instead using their salaries to buy crypto and make the fatal mistake of trusting those exchanges to hold their crypto.

2430  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2022/2023 on: November 11, 2022, 11:32:58 PM
These are the last games to be played in the Premier League before the break because of the World Cup kicking-off later this month.

Here are the games taking place tomorrow Saturday 12th November 2022:

Manchester City vs Brentford

Bournemouth vs Everton

Liverpool vs Southampton

Nottingham Forest vs Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur vs Leeds United

West Ham United vs Leicester City

Newcastle United vs Chelsea

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Arsenal

I would say Newcastle United will beat Chelsea and all eyes will be on the appointment of Potter. Spurs should beat Leeds United but it will be hard earned win. Wolves will surprise Arsenal by winning their games but Manchester City should go top of the Premier League with a win over Brentford.

Here are the games taking place on Sunday 13th November 2022:

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Aston Villa

Fulham vs Manchester United

If Brighton are to be taken seriously in their pursuit of a European place at the end of the season they have to keep having wins or draws but Emery is now manager at Villa so they will be difficult to beat. As for Fulham, they would settle for a draw but Manchester United need to bounce back from the defeat last week if they want to be taken seriously in their aims for a top 4 finish.

What has Arteta accomplished thus far? It is still too soon to use him as a case study. lol Grin
True. The time to judge him will be at the end of the season as that is only when we will know in which position Arsenal will stand but he has turned his team in to a different outfit to what they were in previous seasons, the league table does not lie:

Another exchange hits rock bottom. How many more will become big and then end up crashing taking investors funds with them?

FTX has filed for Chapter 11 proceedings today after the company once worth $32 billion has fallen from grace in to collapse. CEO Sam Bankman-Fried resigned from his role but will remain in an advisory position in order to assist the "orderly transition".

The SEC looks to investigate whether Sam Bankman-Fried mishandled or misappropriated customer funds. Things will get more messy before the full facts are revealed.

The PR fallout from this will be highly negative with those new to crypto or just starting to take an interest being the first to change their minds and think crypto is (stereotypically) either unsafe or used for scams.
2432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Falls To Sub-$17,000 After the FTX Exchange Demise on: November 11, 2022, 10:09:53 AM
How many people actually prepare for a recession? Individuals usually do not have the finances in the first place to accommodate problems related to global recessions but corporations can put plans in place to (try to) cope and can use the collateral damage route when wiping out their investment in loss making or sinking companies.

What happened with FTX sent a shock all over the crypto market and beyond, many individual and corporate investors will be cautious going forward.

There we go, the global recession is here.

The only question is, are you ready for it?

When companies left and right are suddenly writing off their investments in even one company, if that one company went bankrupt, it creates a massive collateral effect where the 2nd-level investors (those who invested in the businesses who directly invested in the failed company) also write off their investments - because the direct investors are now failing too - and the effect reverberates all over the market... for a second time. This time with a more targets than CeFi lenders - now every exchange is also a target.
2433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Falls To Sub-$17,000 After the FTX Exchange Demise on: November 10, 2022, 06:13:30 PM
one day the castle CZ built could also crumble. Imagine what the losses would amount to the day Binance gets hacked again.
The demise of Binance is almost guaranteed, like all its predecessors. But about the effects of it, these things always depend on the market situation. If there is a bear market going on or if the order books are thin because of the newbies panicking and stay away, then the effects would be a lot more than if the market is thriving and the panic and market manipulation is at a minimum.
Besides, Binance is still an altcoin exchange not exactly a bitcoin exchange to directly affect bitcoin price.
What still surprises me is the sheer number of people that are using Binance thinking it will never get hacked (or will never collapse) and are leaving their coins there. There is too much power concentrated in one place when it comes to Binance and that cannot be a good thing in the crypto.

It's approaching the Christmas period, I don't have the data so this is just an assumption, but I would've thought the majority potential investors would've already invested by now, since the Christmas period is notoriously expensive. Unless, you're talking about high profile investors, which are more likely to believe in a recovery than not.

If you're talking about every day investors, this might've happened at the perfect time. Investment might have been low anyhow, but we would've recovered from this news a few months into the new year, and that'll be when we see more investors.

That could mean that we see a further drop though. However, that's just a prime time for us old timers to accumulate more, right?
It cannot be denied that money usually tight during the Christmas and new year period because of obvious increase in expenditure therefore maybe there will not be too many people buying and Bitcoin price overall will probably reflect this.

As for us old timers, yes to accumulate more is what we want but without knowing which way is the market is shifting over the next few days and weeks makes it difficult? Will it bounce around even lower than $15,000 and above $17,000 before settling, or vice-versa? If we all knew the correct time to buy we would all be multi-millionaires by now Grin

well, the price is dropping and the bad news keeps coming, it looks like we're really heading for the abyss.

Sequoia Capital marks down entire $214M FTX stake to zero
Imagine what those FTX token holders are going through right now watching their investment sink in value. A month ago FTX was trading at over $26 each and are now just $3.50 after hitting a low of $2 a couple of days ago.
2434  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2022/2023 on: November 10, 2022, 05:24:45 PM
I think Tuchel had run his course at Chelsea because they won the Champions League when he took over from Lampard mid-season. They had a phenomenal run of success in Europe and also in the Premier League and he was instrumental in helping the team achieve it.

The following season Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by eventual winners Real Madrid and both games were stunning games to watch. Chelsea just about lost those knockout games and Real Madrid just about won them, it was brilliant end to end football therefore Tuchel cannot be blamed for that exit.

What got Tuchel sacked was losing his first choice defence including Rudiger and inadequate strikers. Havertz and Werner, absolutely not worth the money Abramovich paid for them to bring them to Chelsea. Not replacing Rudiger and Christensen was a massive error by the Chelsea hierarchy and that was another significant reason Tuchel had problems. Basically, the team stopped playing for Tuchel.

Potter is in the role now and deserves a clear run until the end of the season to see if he make Chelsea progress towards a top 4 finish.

There are track records truly, don't also forget that shining time passes. There is nothing that Graham Potter would do that they shouldn't have given Thomas Tuchel the benefit of the doubt instead of sacking him. This is by giving the latter additional time. You could see how woefully Chealsea is performing now. Well, you said they should give him time, let's wait and see, but I sincerely do not see anything spectacular coming from the squad for now.
2435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Falls To Sub-$17,000 After the FTX Exchange Demise on: November 10, 2022, 12:33:16 PM
If it drops below the $15,000 mark it will be highly damaging to potential investors. Rather than bring in opportunists or seasoned investors who will rush in to buy, I think the opposite will happen because of the fear factor of not knowing how bad the market will become before it climbs again.

As low as $15,000 is my prediction because for me, I always see either a psychological support or resistance at the prices divisible by $5,000. It's my own strategy on whether I need to buy or not, and there are times that I tweak this strategy of mine but... it's working fine for me. If bad news continues to be released online, we might see Bitcoin go down even lower to at around $10,000-$12,000.

This is like a Christmas sale for us long term holders TBH. Bad news like these is good news for those who want to take risks. Take the opportunity. Bitcoin never fell to these prices since November of 2020. I will buy some Bitcoins to add to my holdings that's for sure. I'm thinking of putting my money into stock market but seeing what's happening right now, I change my mind and will put it into Bitcoins. Cheesy

2437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Falls To Sub-$17,000 After the FTX Exchange Demise on: November 09, 2022, 11:05:03 PM
we seen a similar thing with MTGOX.. the issue is the other exchanges blind sheep followed mtgox prices down. instead of severing the connection and letting mtgox fall by itself

bitcoin price vs value still has not hit its calculated bottom level. but its getting close.

i think its time other exchanges set aside FTX based partner exchanges rates. and not be so sheep following an exchange in demise

.. but then again.. the lower the price the better the discount to buy cheap coins. even im tempted to buy a load more even though i have more hoard than i need already
Mt Gox, there is a name I have not heard in a long time. FTX most probably will not survive in the coming days.

For me, it's an wonderful (once in a lifetime) opportunity to score some more bitcoins at a cheaper price. People who have surplus money, can average out their buying price during this period. The market will be up pretty soon!
The price for BTC is currently under $16,000 but I would not call it an opportunity to buy at a cheaper rate. The market is too volatile, the price could drop much lower.

Imagine how happy all those people with $17,000 buy orders must be right now...
I suspect they wished they had purchased at the current price of less than $16,000  Shocked

It may seem like a fire sale now, but if we continue to dip down to $13,000 it might look like the last bull trap...  I'd be very careful rushing in to buy here.  There are a lot of coins hanging over the market that need to be sold.  Between FTX unwinding leverage, mtgox coins set to be distributed sometime next year, and now the US government sitting on a massive stack they will need to auction, it seems like there's good reason for the market to be on sale.  Hopefully at some point there's a big buyer like Apple or Amazon, but with the recession coming and those companies already pausing hiring, it looks likely that any future investment is a ways off.
I agree, rushing in to purchase at this moment might not be very a good idea. That recession you mentioned has already started and it is hitting hard in many parts of the world, we have no idea when the price will hit $20,000 again.

Imagine those people who already bought at $17k and now they see how is at $16.5 and keeps going down.

Even if $17k looks low this is not the end of the run... And don't forget the panic sales, that will make the crash even harder. Is hard to know what to expect now, anything can happen.

Maybe a big whale see this as a nice opportunity and send the price back to $20k or even higher, just grab some popcorn and enjoy the madness.
My sentiments exactly.
2438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Falls To Sub-$17,000 After the FTX Exchange Demise on: November 09, 2022, 05:55:56 PM
Today Bitcoin fell to below $17,000. How much lower will it go before it bounces back from the fallout?

Twitter of all places was where FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried claimed the business was solvent whereas Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao claimed the opposite and pulled out of a potential deal to buy out (or bail out) FTX.

It is looking like a disaster for those that bought Bitcoin for $30,000, $40,000, $50,000+ but what about all those FTX token holders and the losses they will incur, they will be huge too.

Relying on any one exchange to conduct so much business (FTX) has pitfalls when things go wrong as they regularly do. Binance might have the financial might at the moment to be a massive player in crypto but one day the castle CZ built could also crumble. Imagine what the losses would amount to the day Binance gets hacked again.

As for Bitcoin, the price will bounce up and down then steady before the next big news makes the price bounce all over again and the cycle continues.

Sadly, I guess the party has been cancelled now that The Pharmacist will not be changing his name.

Who is invited to the party? Furthermore, who will bring the cake and snacks as well as arrange entertainment? We cannot expect The Pharmacist to stand on the stand on the stage lapping up the applause while trying to entertain us for the whole event.
The reputables....
Jay Juan Gee would arrange for a cocktail, I mean - he's a good dude don't you think so? Then errrrr..... I'mma select out some good bakers as an incumbent manager but, that'll look even more like a TRAVESTY if "the kid is restrained from his toys" (ironical).
That dude loves pizza like - crazily. There's this bond between CHYMIST and red-pie tomatoe sauce, snacks, groceries and most importantly, PIZZA. I wouldn't be surprised as he'll decide to take up the role of sharing whatever is offered in his own namin' ceremony Jesus Christ 😂 then he'll have some space behind the crib, to maneuver with those sweet, tasty cakes and Munch 'em together with some ice-froozen content, in a fancied plate; YOGHURT?? maybe yeah but that's not just gonna be the kind that GLOVES wished to have, mixed in Birdshit -- sounds like bedsheet right?! lol....
