2461  Economy / Economics / Re: Will bitcoin ever succeed as a currency on: January 11, 2021, 04:36:48 AM
With an increasing number of institutions investing in Bitcoin, the hype surrounding cryptocurrency is going to increase and more and more people will start using Bitcoin. As a result, the number of transactions will increase. But here the problem is that, with limited block size, users can expect lengthy delays. And that makes Bitcoin unsuitable for usage as a currency.
2462  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Crypto live forever or die? on: January 10, 2021, 07:15:56 PM
Now, when BTC costs $ 40,000, talking about the death of cryptocurrency is not entirely appropriate Smiley. In my opinion, cryptocurrency is now very popular all over the world, it is used by online stores, large companies, if the cryptocurrency dies, companies working with cryptocurrency will go bankrupt.

The vulnerabilities remain, despite the steeply rising exchange rates. SegWit and Lightning have failed to resolve the scalability issue. Users are facing a lot of hardship, as a result of sky high transaction fee and delays in confirmation. Hardly anyone is using Bitcoin as a currency nowadays because of this reasons. And we can't ignore this, because Satoshi Nakamoto had originally designed Bitcoin as a currency.
2463  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: January 10, 2021, 04:40:08 PM
Mate, women's cricket is not in the previous state. Women play a lot of good cricket these days. Of course we can't compare them with men's cricket but women have improved a lot in cricket in the last few years. You can see the highlights of the previous Women's World Cup. Then you will have a better idea about women's cricket

If that is the case, then credit should be given to Cricket Australia. Without bothering much about the financials, they set up the WBBL, which gave a platform for the women cricketers from all around the world. They did more to women's cricket than the ICC plus all the other boards combined. On the other hand, the richest cricket board in the world (BCCI) has resorted to delaying tactics to avoid setting up the WIPL.
2464  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 10, 2021, 04:29:41 PM
This is exact same position of Team India who on 2nd day ended score nearly same on same with 2 wickets down. But very next day India's wicket continuously kept falling and thus could not make a big score. So same challenge would be tomorrow if they could play the first session with maximum losing 2 more wickets then chances of draw or India's winning increases else OZ winning chances looks high.

Two of the most experienced batsmen are at the crease now (Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane) and if one of them gets out early, then it will be easy for the Australians to wrap up the Indian innings. And also, on the paper India is only down by two wickets. But actually they are down by three, as Ravindra Jadeja has dislocated his left thumb and may not be able to bat. Rishabh Pant also looks doubtful, due to elbow injury.
2465  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla overtake Amazon? on: January 10, 2021, 02:02:17 PM
The magic of markets. everything can be changed really fast. However, i think in the mid term amazon will be back to first place again

In terms of revenue and profit, Amazon is far ahead of Tesla. The current valuation of Tesla doesn't make any sense, and it looks as if they are making money out of thin air. Stock market as a whole is looking like an inflated bubble, but that is the case with almost all the other sectors (even with cryptocurrency). I have a feeling that a market crash can be expected sometime soon.
2466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How the Alt season will pan out on: January 10, 2021, 01:44:39 PM
We dont see alt season with current level of bitcoin dominance. Only btc correction will allow alt season to happen
By the way, is it that when Bitcoin experiences a correction, the Altcoin will not experience a decrease in price? if this is the case, then everyone at this point will be waiting for a correction from Bitcoin to see Altcoin season.

That is because a lot of the investors are expecting that what happened in 2017 will repeat in 2021. They are forgetting the fact that back in 2017, there were solid reasons for the altcoin rally, such as the ICO boom and hype surrounding coins such as ETH, TRX and ADA. This time the altcoin market is in a more suppressed state, and even at the current level, we are noway near the ATH levels for many of the coins.
2467  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin volatility here to stay? on: January 10, 2021, 01:31:09 PM
I honestly think that the Bitcoin volatility is here to stay for a very, very, very long time no matter if pumps or dumps. The crypto market is still small and young, so there is a lot of room for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to grow even further as institutions are starting to buy Bitcoin from all over the world. I also believe that only less than 0.01% of the institutions worldwide are buying it, and there are still a lot of them who are not yet aware but may be gaining interest later on.

What you have posted is correct. But investment from institutions are very susceptible to regulatory action. We all saw what happened to XRP, after the SEC acted against it. The same would happen to Bitcoin if they take a similar stance against that coin as well. For now, everyone is ignoring this risk factor. But it is like the sword of Damocles, always hanging over our head.
2468  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - February 20 on: January 10, 2021, 01:23:07 PM
His fans I guess. I think there are people that will bet on him since we all know how his trainers and other saying that Logan can or might defeat Floyd Mayweather. We all know that it is near impossible considering also the odds shown in these gambling sites.

Logan Paul has zero chance of either a win or a draw, against Floyd Mayweather. But that shouldn't matter actually. This is an exhibition fight and in all probability the action will be all scripted. Mayweather may allow Logan Paul to survive for two or three rounds, just to get his fans satisfied. And in the end, the fans will end up with $90 less on their pocket and Mayweather and Logan are going to walk away with a few tens of millions of USD in their accounts.
2469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's the biggest mistake you've made on crypto? on: January 10, 2021, 01:11:24 PM
I first started my investment in cryptocurrency almost 9 years ago. But in the following months, I made a number of mistakes, resulting in the loss of a majority of my coins. First, I invested in a scam project called LitecoinGlobal, and half of my coins were gone immediately. Then I invested in a few shitcoins such as Labcoin and Quark, resulting in the complete loss of investment. And finally, I lost more coins when I failed to take the backup for some of my wallets.
2470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Things will be different this time around on: January 10, 2021, 01:01:12 PM
To all those saying altcoin season won't likely happen, in January 2018 altcoin season was able to triggered because bitcoin was done for at 19k to 20k at the time, this time bitcoin isn't done yet, you can see that dominance is increasing too, it might take longer than expect, stop expecting history to repeat itself in same ways like 2017

If you can check the charts for 2017, then you will be able to find that the altcoins were rallying much more than Bitcoin for the most part of the year. It is not like Bitcoin went up first and then the altcoins spiked when BTC went down. The Bitcoin dominance was around 85% on January 2017, and this figure has come down to 38% by June 2017. It was around 33% when the altcoins peaked on January 2018.
2471  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-01-08 Forbes - Data Reveals What’s Behind The Huge 2021 Bitcoin Price Boom on: January 10, 2021, 12:51:04 PM
This can be misleading. While some of these addresses may belong to individual investors (who may own one or more such wallets), I strongly suspect that the vast majority are being controlled by institutions and exchanges. The data may actually point to the fact that huge number of coins are being moved to exchange wallets, as the old users are looking for opportunities to book profit.
2472  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Netherlands pilot scheme to allow women to play in senior men's team on: January 10, 2021, 12:41:18 PM
If this is the Dutch idea of women empowerment, then I feel really sorry for them. Equal opportunity is what the women need, not preferential treatment. What they are going to achieve, by placing women in men's team? There is not even a 0.0001% chance that the player would be able to compete against the male players. BTW, male players are already being included in the women's teams, under the label of "transgenders".
2473  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cash out or HODL - Bitcoin? on: January 10, 2021, 12:31:09 PM
For me, it depends on the profit I have made. If I HODLed for e.g. a few years and made a very big profit, I would choose to cash out and wait for the price to go down at a too high rate. Then, I would buy BTC from that price again and HODL it for a similar time period and observe the movements of the price.

For most of the investors, it doesn't depend on the amount of profits they have made, but their ability to wait for long. If you can afford to hold your coins for another 3-4 years, then that would be the best thing to do. With so many institutions entering the Bitcoin sector, the future potential looks very bright. But at the same time, if you have expenses to take care of and you are short of cash, then it won't be a bad idea to sell some of the coins right now.
2474  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you trust the co-vid19 vaccine ? on: January 10, 2021, 12:21:25 PM
I honestly can't be bothered to read 20+ pages of this topic to see how many of you are brainwashed antivaxxers, but I'll give my thoughts all the same:

The only concern I have regarding the vaccine is that they can't confirm whether or not it prevents transmission of the virus.  It's easy to imagine it might give the general public a false sense of security and actually increase the rate of infection if people aren't careful.  I suspect once people have had the vaccine, they will go out socialising right away because they won't get sick.  They will then become a carrier for the virus and show no symptoms.  Then they will mix with unvaccinated people in their bubble and infect them.

If you care about your loved ones, continue socially distancing until everyone you know is vaccinated.

Well, this is exactly what is going to happen. Pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and Moderna have already issued statements claiming that the immunity won't kick in at least 2-3 weeks after you receive the second dose of the vaccine. But most of the people are not going to listen (especially the youth) and they will start disregarding the safety precautions as soon as they get the first dose of the vaccine. This is why I feel that the governments made the right decision, by first prioritizing the elderly for the vaccination.

This is what masks do. They give people a false sense of security and then you end up with people wearing masks in their car when they're alone thinking that it will magically protect them. They'll wear masks outside with no one around them, or they'll wear masks in a crowded place thinking that a mask is a replacement for social distancing.

I'm more confident that the vaccine will be a better measure than this pipedream that masks will solve the pandemic.

Masks do prevent 90% of the infections. That is a fact. Vaccination, along with safety precautions such as wearing of masks can eradicate the infection in a matter of few months.
2475  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Confession: After 5 years of hodling, I finally sold on: January 10, 2021, 12:11:11 PM
Well we might not see $27000 again, same as $40000 in the not too distant future.
There is talk of a "correction" but that might not happen until $80k or $120k.

I have the same opinion as well. Everyone is talking about a correction, because that's what happened to Bitcoin after it reached ATHs previously in 2013 and again in 2017. But current circumstances are different. Back then, the prices went up mostly as a result of hype and at the slightest trigger the users went for profit booking and that tanked the prices. But this time, there is a solid reason for the rally. On top of that, most of the purchases are being made by institutions and they are less susceptible to panic selling.
2476  Economy / Speculation / Re: Michael Saylor goes nuts: he predicts a $15 million Bitcoin price. on: January 10, 2021, 12:01:20 PM
I don't know whether such crazy predictions are feasible, but then today's market looks overpriced in every sector. Look at the TSLA stock. A corporation, with an annual net loss of $1 billion is having a market cap of close to $1 trillion. When a loss making venture such as TSLA can have such a huge market cap, then why can't Bitcoin have a market cap of several trillions? But a market cap of $300 trillion? It sounds impractical for me.
2477  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 08, 2021, 06:52:29 AM
It is difficult to tell who is having the advantage right now. India has lost two quick wicket, and now it is up to the experienced duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara to build the innings. Hanuma Vihari is at no.5, but after that the batting strength gets weaker. Rishabh Pant is not in good form, and Jadeja is at no.7. Whoever gets the first innings lead will be having an advantage in this match.
2478  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: January 08, 2021, 06:48:28 AM
ODI match between Ireland and UAE ongoing at Abu Dhabi, if anyone is interested. Ireland has got a good start and they are at 88/1, with Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie at crease. There are three ODIs in this series, to be followed by another 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan. Two players are making their debut for the UAE (Alishan Sharafu from Kerala and Kashif Daud from Pakistan).
2479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Remember when ETH was $1400 a few years ago then crashed to $70 as BTC crashed? on: January 07, 2021, 04:41:35 PM
If we'll keep on comparing Bitcoin and Ethereum, we'll surely get lost on the right track. These two are different and they both have good potential. Their movement isn't as uniform as what we expect. Ethereum's price doesn't always rely on Bitcoin. I wouldn't personally look for a coin that is better than Ethereum because as for me, it isn't a scam since its foundation is already firm.

Ethereum may not be a scam. But for sure they can't claim the moral highground like Bitcoin. In case of Bitcoin, there is no evidence to prove that Satoshi Nakamoto ever profited out of his invention. The coins that he mined in 2009 and 2010 are still there and they haven't been moved in more than a decade. On the other hand, Vitalk Buterin and the other Ethereum developers have earned big money from their invention. But it isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless they try to scam others (similar to what Craig Wright did with his BSV shitcoin).
2480  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 07, 2021, 04:24:25 PM
It should be close to 400, batting is going to be more comfortable from day 2 and Aussie already going at 3+ run rate. So close to 400 shouldn't be big task even if they bat only 2 sessions.

India would be very happy if they restrict them under 350 as average total in Sydney is close to 400ish runs. (Edit: in recent years)

Anything above 300 is going to put Indian in a difficult situation. It is not that hard anyway. Steve Smith is not in good form and only Marnus Labuschagne has scored runs on a consistent basis. If India manages to get one or two quick wickets at the start of play tomorrow, then they may be able to restrict Australia to 290-300. Momentum is with India after the second test and they needs to make sure that it stays that way.
