2521  Economy / Goods / Re: Glass Insulators on: May 30, 2012, 02:29:17 PM
What are these for, and how can you use them? As far as I can tell, they are just the "knob" in knob-and-tube wiring, except glass instead of ceramic. Do they have some other use that I haven't figured out?

Some hints...

Damn it, still didn't got here in the Iberian peninsula. I feel like waiting for the same, dubbed in spanish, movie to launch after the official one took place more than a month ago.

2527  Economy / Goods / Re: $$ONLY FOR THE BTC RICH$$ on: May 30, 2012, 08:19:02 AM
Shipping is expensive, so I'm not especially interested in tangible goods unless they are locally hard to find (clothing/shoes for vegans, someone please do this), interesting (geeky gadgets? gifts?) or cheap (I sometimes buy computer hardware for BTC). I usually spend BTC on intangible goods, and I wish there were more things I can do online with Bitcoin. Bitcointorrentz is an interesting service for example. And I don't see nearly enough VPS and VoIP providers accepting Bitcoin.

The reason there are not a lot of VOIP providers is quite simply, it takes a lot of investment in time to implement a process in which payments can be made, most customers what everything in real time that means they do not want to wait, and therefore to process payments manually does not work, most bitcoin users use VOIP services from major players, not the small guys ironically it is the small guys that offer VOIP services for the tiny bitcoin market, the large VOIP vendors do not care about the success or failure of Bitcoin, nevertheless most bitcoin buyers prefer the big guys.

I know this for a fact, I ran a bitcoin voip bussiness, and nearly all my customers are non bitcoin users, the reason I ran the business in Bitcoin is because it is a sound currency that I strongly believe in, and what to help to make it a success, and many of the small voip providers that accept Bitcoin also want it to be a success, nevertheless the average bitcoin user that uses VOIP is using voip from a major vendor that has absolutely no interest whatsoever in the Bitcoin economy.

If you do not believe major VOIP vendors do not care about Bitcoin, mane me one that cares, I can not think of a single one, all the ones that do care are all small players, some smaller than others but none at the level of the big guys, the same can bit said about other areas in the bitcoin economy.

About a month ago I implemented a shopping cart to allow to buy phone credit in bitcoins, well the shopping cart has almost 0 customers.

Since the market is tiny for VOIP in Bitcoins, and most users using the large players which do not support Bitcoin, I think the VOIP market is very large for the demand that exists in Bitcoins, if you do not believe me take a look in the trade section under Bitcoin businesses for voip a lot of the Bitcoin VOIP providers from a year ago are gone now and the reason is lack of market.

And this problem is not only for VOIP it is for all products, a lot of small sellers and very few buyers, if we want Bitcoin to be successful we have to prefer using businesses that accept Bitcoins, that has a price to be paid and that is limited choices and usually small businesses nevertheless it is what is needed, I personally try whenever possible to spend bitcoins within the bitcoin community.

In brief, what I am trying to suggest is that we must try for the Bitcoin economy to depend on its own, would it not be great if you could go to the supermarket and pay directly in Bitcoins, or go to a parts store and be able to pay in Bitcoins, for that to happen we must support vendors  that support bitcoins whenever possible and the market will grow, otherwise it will also grow but at a lot slower pace.

somewhat relevant...

2529  Local / Mercado y Economía / Compro/vendo bitcoins en persona, Madrid capital on: May 29, 2012, 08:35:31 PM

A vuestro servicio me quedo,
Alex B

P.S.: Tambien he posteado en el hilo de compra y venta.

EDIT: ajuste en el precio de referencia

EDIT2: No estoy disponible temporalmente hasta que el precio se estabilice.

why the bump ? the answer to you question would be they return the coins to sender, nothing more. Look at the warning on http://www.satoshidice.com .

Because i were afraid, that this thread is going to lose attention in this big forum. Yes, they return them to sender, but i see no reliable way to get the sender address via the bitcoind rpc api.

You're right there, i don't see it either. Tried getting the tx by hash, no inputs there. Then getting the block by hash and list all the tx's, no luck. Probably someone that has more extensive knowledge could bump in and shed some light on this because i'm clueless  Undecided

WARNING: Only use wallets that allow you to receive Bitcoin from the same address you sent from. If you're not sure, test with .001 Bitcoins. If you get nothing back, then your wallet is not compatible.

It's not recommended in case a person uses web-wallets, and not a desktop client, because they don't associate addresses to any user but internal bitcoin accounts. In exchange the desktop wallet has control over all the input addresses so in theory is safe to send the coins to where they came from. Use the inputs of the transaction, when the coins came to your site, as destination but make sure you put a warning somewhere or else someone may lose some coins.

2535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 400 BTC sent to an unknow address. (COINS RETURNED) 40 BTC reward. on: May 29, 2012, 06:20:27 PM
Cool the coins are retured, etc etc  but can we lock this so it doesn't keep getting bumped up - it's closed and finished with now. Thanks.

well the last post was from the very person who sent the coins so that is rather relevant, especially as it was him & not goat who decided to send only 400 coins out of the 3,000 as a test tx, personally I find locking threads to often be a pain - much better to let them gradually fade off as some later feedback or similar situations may be of interest to resurrect them, if you're personally done with the little drama then just skip looking at any updated posts np - I do this with many threads, mark all as read when they pop up in the list of updated one's that I posted in

sry for bumping it again  Grin
I wish I could mark individual threads read without reading them. That would be a good compromise.

yep, we all wish to be able to un-follow threads that we once posted in without having to go back & delete all our posts in it to do so, one day maybe  Smiley

Just delete the email and don't visit the thread again.

That doesn't fix the unread message link.  Wink

Yeah, I just bumped it for all of you haters. =P

Now if only people would stop bumping the "Introduce yourself Smiley" and "Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?)" threads…

we'd be dooomed, i feel really good after seeing 5-6 people have joined the ranks every day. I still cherry-pick "new replies to your posts" and then mark what's left as read.

Platooning may be the new way of travelling on motorways in as little as ten years time - and the EU-financed SARTRE project has carried out the first successful demonstration of its technology at the Volvo Proving Ground close to Gothenburg, Sweden. This is the first time the EU-financed development teams in SARTRE try their systems together outside the simulators.

Vehicle platooning, as envisaged by the SARTRE project, is a convoy of vehicles where a professional driver in a lead vehicle drives a line of other vehicles. Each car measures the distance, speed and direction and adjusts to the car in front. All vehicles are totally detached and can leave the procession at any time. But once in the platoon, drivers can relax and do other things while the platoon proceeds towards its long haul destination.

Exciting news, hope they find a need to implement digital currencies in their project so that we're able to reward the "professional diver" for his services too.

Is there a way that I can send the same amount to multiple addresses?

Yes, but there are no GUI wallet programs that support it yet.

Eh... Bitcoin-Qt has supported it since its first release (v0.5.0).
