Okay, several people in this thread asked me to do power tests, and I finally got around to it. Unlike my first Kill-A-Watt, this one hasn't melted... yet. I used a slightly older version, cause I'm in the middle of a rewrite for one hash.
For the people who just don't give a fuck about the details and want the results, here: 12.84% more power for 34.34% more hash overall. You can stop reading now.
For the rest of you, the system has a 270X, 280X, 290X, and 7950, all at stock voltages. All power draw measurements were done at the wall.
Power draw at idle - that is, after I booted it and let it sit for 5 - 10 minutes - is 123W. Running the stock SGMiner 5 from GitHub (commit e481d67e59ad60edc69c026617219f8fae9d6c6e), the hashrate over all cards used was 16.60MH/s while pulling 740W from the wall. Using the exact same miner code, cloned to a different folder to prevent mistakes, with my OpenCL, the hashrate was 22.30MH/s, using 835W in the process.
The configuration used for both tests follows - the GPUs, in order, are 270X, 290X, 7950, and 280X. xintensity 128,64,128,128 worksize 64 engine clock 1155,1050,1155,1155 memclock 1500,1600,1500,1600 powertune 20,50,20,50 gpu-threads 2 gpu-fan 80
In closing, I'm glad people kept asking for this, because sitting down and measuring the average increase over most relevant AMD GPUs (Pitcairn, Tahiti, and Hawaii), has been slightly disappointing. My earlier estimates were based off of the hashrate of Hawaii (my 290X) only - seeing this average increase motivates me to do more of the time-consuming, difficult, aggressive optimizations rather than looking for more low-hanging fruit. Power use was also slightly higher than I expected - while I anticipated maybe 8% - 9%, it's actually nearly 13%. While that doesn't make the speed increase not worth it - nowhere near - it still could use some more experimentation and work.
Nice work. I do like to see some empirical research in this scene!

Maybe Satoshi needed some beer money.
That's off topic actually and his addresses are untouched as you can see for yourself. I wonder what's going to happen to DRK once this big downtrend turns around into a big uptrend.. I've got better things to do than watch other people's wallet balances. Like make off topic glib remarks on here.

BTC @ 300? Wtf happened?
stonehenge got bored with drk and decided to sell 5.800 btc in less than 1 minute (over 10.000 btc in 10 minutes). ps: this is a joke. he/she is just responsible for the drk price atm // someone did a test trade on btc-drk // yehaa LOL. If I'm controlling the price of DRK right now then we're all fucked.

I miss MIntpal I've been forced to use Cryptsy...what does this even mean? "Our wallet is offline while we update to the latest version. It should be back online soon." Why can't I withdraw my DRK? Customer services say that they don't know when the "wallet upgrade" will be finished but "it should be soon" Gaaaaaah! I think it means, "The previous crooks booby-trapped the mysql database to cover their tracks and we accidentally pushed the wrong big red button. Oops! In the meantime marvel at our half-finished snot green mockup!" Lol Its actually Crypsy that won't let me withdraw DRK.

BTC: Switching to spare pair of pants #2.
WOW, someone is getting serious to get out.... over 10.000 BTC in less than 10 minutes (bitstamp) If only some of that BTC dump money was coming into our ecosystem

You probably don't want to live in a CGI house. lol, why not. It's much cheaper to buy an oculus rift! Also, isn't that crazy, that a darkcoiner would want to live in a house where the bathroom is completely transparent like that? hahaha But hey, why not. Who am I to judge. To everybody his kink. I do actually know a man who has a bathroom with entirely glass walls and door. The mind boggles.

Do what you will but I recommend selling bitcoin before it goes back down and to buy DRK Are you kidding ? In numerical terms alone (never mind correcting for coin supply) I've got 43.636 times the amount of DRK that I've got Bitcoin. If DRK ever gets near Bitcoin's valuation I'll be getting myself one of these: ...followed by one of these: ... and one of these: You probably don't want to live in a CGI house.

some nice bids for DRK on cryptsy atm. Maybe we push to mid 75's again soon.
Sorry, that was me again. What the fck has a man got to do to buy some dark coins round here? Took 2 hours to confirm my BTC deposit and my FIAT bank locked my funds overnight. Now I try to withdraw my DRK from cryptsy and it tells me that I can't because there is "wallet maintenance". Anybody know whats going on there? I miss mintpal. I know it was basic and crude...but it worked.

Sorry, that was me. Didn't realise how low the volume was on Bitfinex. That order wasn't fulfilled...chart is misleading.

I already bailed but miss Mintpal. The thing that has stopped me trading more with their rivals is the low volume on some other exhanges and also that my bank is a bunch of cretins.

I'd be on a buying spree if my fucking bank didn't intercept every single large transaction I make to make extra fraud checks. This is fucking stupid. They're meant to be spotting abnormal transactions!

I wouldn't worry semaj, you are witnessing a hypothetical debate. Don't let it wind you up.
As a masternode owner I am against increasing masternode payouts unless something is done to improve mining conditions for the miners.
Don't forget that masternodes have recently been running at a loss too despite our 20% slice of the pie. This is probably now solved but still, we aren't raking it in at the miners expense.
I was gutted the other day whean I read you hired that beast of a farm. I was watching you connect and disconnect from the DarkcoinTalk Pool and my pulse was racing when I saw you at 3.5Gh/s dude... I was like "Yeah Baby" thinking you had a 1000 GPU setup lol We were running at 7Gh/s for a while! Set my pulse racing too! Serious question...how do you build a rig with that kind of hash rate? Jesus I must have missed that, I saw you at 3.5 Gh/s then you disconnected, must have caught you at the end of the session. If it was from betarigs then they allow you to configure multiple rigs as one for rental purposes, and I saw some bad ass data centres on there when I used to rent out my farm. But never 7 Gh/s. Prices have come down a lot now though on rentals, I used to split my farm up into 100 Mh/s chunks to make the price palatable for the punters, but now prices have plummeted it's not strange to think old world miners with massive GPU farms just configuring the whole lot as one machine through a proxy. By my estimate, which is partially based on my progress, partially based on likely increases by changes I have considered but not completed, and partially pulled out of my ass, I would hazard a guess that it's possible to do 3.5 GH/s with a little over 200 280X cards. That would qualify for "mid-to-low sized farmer." 7GH/s would therefore be slightly over 400 280X, so, decent-sized farmer. Neither qualify for "balling farmer." Just did a quick job search online and no vacancies for balling farmer's assistant came up. Shame. Thought I found a new career.

The 3.5Gh/s rig has increased its price by 1BTC per 24 hours!
It was a massive waste of money but a lot of fun at the same time.
