I can't help but feel this entire thread is just a way to see if people, fresh off of losing money to Pirate, will once again risk large sums will no proof that the counterparty has the ability or inclination to pay other than some vague handwaving.
Well he is part of the staff and this is not off-topic. It's in the marketplace, in the gamble section. Lying just to make a test would be unacceptable. Indeed. That would be downright sick.

If he doesn't pay, betters win. If he does pay, betters win, but slightly less. I must be missing your point

Well, since you're just giving out bitcoins, essentially, I request that my bet be raised from 20 BTC to 30 BTC.
No he is not essentially giving away BTCs.... If it were not for me buying bonds on GLBSE under 50% face I would be doing the same. You're buying bonds? That's not what you said a few hours earlier.. Just to make clear the bond is now dead or closed as BTCST has failed to send me coins with in 72 hours or make interest payments.
Pirate has defaulted.
Assuming pirate will ever pay in full I will pass along the weeks interest and the face value of the bond.
Again this bond is now dead and to make clear if pirate does not send fund the bonds are worth 0 BTC.
Thank you.
Ouch. Seems like Goat might be up to something. I'd be careful with him. He spreads a whole lot of FUD about anyone he doesn't personally like.

Hey Matthew I could be interested now that you raised the bar, but I need to see some proof that you hold any amount of coins to pay all the bets beforehand. Think you could do that?
Sorry, I don't need to dance. Read the OP for rules. I'm glad you're interested, use an escrow if you feel a risk of losing your coins. Yes you do, we all on the same dancing floor. And why should I use an escrow to make a bet with you? I don't trust anyone. I'm just asking politely you prove that you own the coins set as maximum bet, by your own words in OP, so I can trust you and make my bet. I can offer you the same as I offered dust: I will bet you 100 Bitcoins that Matthew will fulfill his end of the deal within 3 weeks after a conclusion. This means that if Matthew wins (pirate pays out) Matthew is done and I get 100 Bitcoins from you. If it is decided that Matthew loses and has to pay you his side of the bet with you, and he /doesn't/ do so within 3 weeks, I will give you 100 Bitcoins. (The 3 weeks start after it's been decided that Matthew loses. Suggestions on how this should be decided?) Sounds like a no brainer. Maybe parapain should put his money where his mouth his now that there's no way to fail.

You either trust me or you don't.

Pirate was a ponzi and there were enough warning signs everywhere. He is currently stalling, i dont know why, possibly because some coins are not yet washed.
I dont think anyone will see a bitcent from pirate from here on.
Hecate: Now, ready to back up your baseless accusations? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=101751I don't know if he's a ponzi or not, but I wouldn't go around calling things ponzis unless I knew and had evidence. If you're sure, surely the above bet is not a "bet" but rather "free guaranteed money" for you. Amirite?

I think this has only proved they actually meant it.
I agree. The fact that not all of them have funds to up the bet much more doesn't change anything.
Also agreed, and its the reason why I allow bets as low as 0.1BTC. I want everyone to have the chance to back up what they say with an amount that is a maximum allowable bet to them personally. If someone only has 1BTC, I wouldn't want them to bet it. Betting 0.1BTC would be sufficient and would mean quite a lot considering how much that person has. With that point lost already, it's only BTC that he can possibly win.
The point is far from lost, it's not not going to be made until this is over. When people lose because they were too proud to admit they didn't know for sure if it was a ponzi or not, then those people will be more careful next time. It's going to serve it's purpose very well. And if I lose, then I'll have learned a valuable lesson as well (I also enjoy entertaining the community). The perception that he's prone to reckless behaviour is on the rise.
You must not know me very well.

We should be focusing on that, not on the ponzi/no ponzi squabbling. Bitcoin is not a HYIP and should not be associated with them to this degree.
I agree completely. That is the purpose of this thread.

I'm going to have to call you out on this If you do not escrow. What if you are just trying to teach everyone a lesson that they too, can be scammed.
You continue to post and yet have not responded.
Do you agree to escrow?
If you do not, I will assume you are scamming and go public on the forums.
I will make this exact bet with some pirate supporter with escrow to prove I am not dodging the bet.
This guy now wants to change his bet after the fact by adding escrow. I have escrowed privately with many people who I thought it was necessary, and many people have escrowed through third parties (I presume), but to demand it "or else I'm going public" -after- making a bet where escrow was not offered, is a bit tacky, and you not wanting to follow the OP when you place your bet will not change the legitimacy of your bet. Thank you.

yikes Matt.
I don't know why you are doing it, but I must max-fire to prove my point. I still feel bad but there can be no half-measures here.

Strongly tempted to increase my bet before the cutoff, tuesday afternoon and still no word from pirate.
I'll have to think about this more carefully.
I may cut that timeline short if things don't start turning up and just lock the thread here soon.
