1642  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: First BFL ASIC! on: April 04, 2013, 12:39:38 PM
I hope this is investigated more and this community continues to grow more skeptical (not abusive mind you) of promise, regardless of how many fans are in a box.

Absolutely right. BTW where's your scammer Tag? IIRC you made a similar stunt like BFL with your bet?!

I'm not a scammer, just pretty naive of the consequences of my actions on occasion and was acting a bit manic at that time. I've worked and continue to work diligently to make up for my mistakes, including paying people for the bet. In hindsight, I had underestimated the greed in this community and although I did help hundreds of people learn a common sense lesson at a great personal expense, it also had the adverse effect of directing legitimate steam away from Pirate and towards me instead (angry mob-style). At the point I knew it was time to get my life together and I took a long break to do just that.

I'm less concerned with reputation on a forum than I am with the development of my own integrity and principles. When BFL starts showing that same integrity, I'll believe in them again. Right now they're starting to look like a large heist planned by Sonny. Sorry, Sonny, but that shoe is starting to look very comfy on you.
1643  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: First BFL ASIC! on: April 04, 2013, 11:42:24 AM
As much as I was rooting for BFL in the past (I even asked them for one to test for the first Bitcoin Magazine and was so overjoyed out how stylish their boxes looked over typical "nerdy"-but-functional, ones), I can't help but agree that this bet smells fishy. It's me-style bet wriggling, except they're actually a serious company. I am starting to rethink my position on whether they are a giant scam, and everyone working for them being bribed or what (not because I want to think badly of them, but because it seems to happen more and more in this over-trusting community of pathetic hopefuls).

I hope this is investigated more and this community continues to grow more skeptical (not abusive mind you) of promise, regardless of how many fans are in a box.
1644  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] Avalon 85Gh/s ASIC - Missed the boat? You can ride mine! on: April 04, 2013, 11:28:37 AM
I will pass, but I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you!

Just an update, as it says in the OP, this auction can close at anytime but will not last longer than 12 days. The latest it will be open until is April 15th at 03:21:57 AM KST, but likely to close before then due to privately discussed terms from serious bidders.
1645  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] Avalon 85Gh/s ASIC - Missed the boat? You can ride mine! on: April 04, 2013, 08:46:11 AM
Sorry for being such a pain, but I think these are important questions when considering to invest hard-earned bitcoins with someone with your history.

Fair enough. You can click the link in my signature for a list of the good things I've done as well as the mistakes I've made. I've handled much more money than this and am still entrusted with far larger things than running a simple Avalon profit sharing agreement. It does seem that you're either too new to know or you are one of the few who took my trolling to heart (perhaps you're a sockpuppet of one of the people who bet with me?). I learned a hard lesson and I grew up. This is a legitimate attempt to make good on it.

which has not been honored?
For the past few months I have worked tirelessly to make things right about that poor decision. If you'd like to see the progress I have made so far, please visit https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=140654

Your fears, although legitimate in general towards any transaction in bitcoin, are slightly misguided. I've never scammed anyone, just successfully trolled and crossed a lot of lines I shouldn't have, that I am now very sorry for. I encourage you to follow this thread and see what develops, and I always appreciate the criticisms and advice of others in my business dealings as it helps hone my skills. Thank you.
1646  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] Avalon 85Gh/s ASIC - Missed the boat? You can ride mine! on: April 04, 2013, 08:16:25 AM
I received a message last night for clarification on some points and I agree that they should be mentioned here.

Upon receiving the ASIC, I have *no* intention of:

  • The unit will not be altered in any way that is not advised by all parties
  • No experimentation will be done on the unit
  • The unit will be run under default conditions, those recommended by Avalon
  • The unit will not be overclocked, unless a time comes later down the road that *all* parties agree to attempt it due to decreasing profits

Thank you subSTRATA for recommending this information be public. It does indeed help clarify things and in hindsight should have been included in the OP.
1647  Economy / Speculation / Re: 20 calls a day from large asset managers looking to invest up to $100m. on: April 03, 2013, 10:20:31 PM
what did you expect?

I kind of expected this, because I know that even skeptics will come to appreciate how brilliant Bitcoin is when they bother to learn in detail about it.

personally I'm starting to doubt bitcoin abit because it requires someone to pay for Energy forever and in increasing amounts to keep it alive

Is there another currency that doesn't?
USD doesnt need a permanent inflow of ever increasing Energy to keep it's perceived value alive

Yes it does, but that energy is exerted in the form of military spending. "How dare you say our money isn't worth anything! Die!"

Re: So who can limit themselves to just looking at the price ONCE a day? anyone?
Why look when you can listen?

Seriously though, someone should waste their time on a preev.com that plays sounds instead. Nevermind, you can just click "MtGox Trades" there for that.
1650  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GOX having issues on: April 03, 2013, 08:12:53 PM
Servers down.... 10mins since last trade...

ahem...

Q: can you trade in any other way beyond using their website?

Sure. Try any other bitcoin exchange, like BitStamp.net for example.

No, I was asking if you can trade on their exchange without using the website, i.e. any client app, or other device/platform.

Oh! You mean like a decentralized exchange? You might try localbitcoins if you enjoy waiting and Ripple was supposed to handle some of that.

1652  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gox is an embarrassment... Coinlab and Coinbase should switch to other exchanges on: April 03, 2013, 07:59:07 PM
Let's just all agree to not use Gox.

I'm done with them after today.

I've never used Gox, only BitStamp.
1653  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who's going to sue MtGox first? on: April 03, 2013, 07:47:06 PM
With a lot of institutional, big money pouring into the Bitcoin world, I wonder who is going to be the first institutional investor to sue the shit out of MtGox.

Marky Mark's software monster sucks worse than a crack whore on discount night. I am sure a lot of people lost a lot of moolla because of Magic the Gathering Marky.

I don't think you can sue eBay for your auctions being removed or their site crashing and you being unable to sell your item to the bidders.
1654  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help on starting with ATI card plz on: April 03, 2013, 06:48:56 PM
Ok thanks.  Then will I def need to install ATI Stream SDK, or is it only a possibility?

Try installing the latest drivers for that card. If they work, great. If not, try the version before that. Continue until working.
1655  Economy / Auctions / Re: Shares in a BFL Single on: April 03, 2013, 06:46:16 PM
I say this tongue in cheek somewhat, but when did they say it would be delivered?
1656  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help on starting with ATI card plz on: April 03, 2013, 06:34:16 PM
Hi all,

I am getting started with guiminer with a Radeon 6570.  I am having trouble installing the drivers without crashing my system, I think it might be the Catalyst Control Center crap that they make you install with the driver, so I'm going to try just pointing Windows XP to the driver.  Anyway if I can get that to work, do I then need to install ATI Stream SDK, is that right?  Anything else needed after that to get my system ready for guiminer?  Thanks in advance!

Try either an earlier or newer version of the driver/catalyst. That always worked for me.
1657  Economy / Auctions / Re: Shares in a BFL Single on: April 03, 2013, 06:32:55 PM
I can add the email, if you think bids should only be made on here, that is fine, I will take it down, and tell him to bid on here, but he said he was new.

Phil

Of course they should only be done here.  You could also require the bidders to have created their account only after a certain date too if you wanted to be even stricter, but it's too late since it's already started.
1658  Economy / Auctions / Re: [WTS] Avalon 85Gh/s ASIC - Missed the boat? You can ride mine! on: April 03, 2013, 05:08:14 PM
the market says his 4 unit is worth about 1.157733 BTC

In fact, the market judged you as being someone with less than 4 months reputation on the forums, selling a batch 2, and only 3 modules. There are many different factors here, some in and some against my favor, that it would be hard to say what the market will decide in this particular case. Given that the auction can last up to 12 days, it may in fact do much better than that. One thing is for sure-- with your auction over, the scarcity just went up!  Wink

There is a lot of discussion about difficulty and payback in my thread.

I recommend people read his thread and others before bidding. There is always the possibility for great earnings and losses depending on infinite factors (ranging from market depth, volume, publicity, adoption, hacks, errors, public opinion, etc) when investing in mining equipment. I can say that I personally wouldn't have picked up an Avalon ASIC for 101.5 BTC if I didn't see the potential to make 10x that and create residual income for myself, my debts and my future projects.
1659  Other / Meta / Re: Stop accepting ads from BFL until they deliver? on: April 03, 2013, 04:40:27 PM
Back when I was spreading hopes and dreams across the forums of a new legitimate publication I was designing specifically for Bitcoin (Bitcoin Magazine) I was insanely enthusiastic and overly zealous, saying something I believe to the tune of "Next month!" which turned into pre-orders and 6 months of defending against accusations of "theft" and "scam". I feel BFL's pain, as it must be pretty annoying being called scammers when trying to salvage things as best as they can. That said, I gave up them (not as a legitimate company, but just being reliable) a long time ago when I asked Sonny what the timeline would be for the Single I paid for and he said "maybe 6 months".

This is not crowdfunding. It's not kickstarter. If they fail to deliver a product people already paid for in full (repeatedly), they are scammers. If they finally deliver, they are not scammers. It's pretty simple.
1660  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAMMER: Cablepair (Tom) from BTCFPGA.com/bitcoinasic.net on: April 03, 2013, 04:14:15 PM
The increasing value of bitcoins allows for paying back many USD denominated loans and general debts. If even Trendon were to agree to pay the USD value of the coins he stole, he could completely pay everyone back right now and still be rich.
