99 BTC 1Desy2xSRQyz96c8Rfk2czAgVbWgzNhkMJ I LOVE PIRATE
100 BTC 1Etcbqx8crVjp3dqTC6zedv963mv5mc5ev he's runnin
Connection between both users has been made and risk level is extremely high. Neither user has bothered returning messages and other thread activity of a 150BTC loan a day before this thread was made raises some doubts. My own personal opinion is that they are probably scammers. I'll have to deny the bet on those grounds.

Also worth noting, both yup and candoo placed bets in my thread one after the other in sequence and neither have responded to a single PM of mine. yup 100 BTC 1Etcbqx8crVjp3dqTC6zedv963mv5mc5ev candoo 99 BTC 1Desy2xSRQyz96c8Rfk2czAgVbWgzNhkMJ
Naturally I didn't accept.

I'll do 10. I don't believe we'll see a default, but I'm willing to give Matthew a few coins as a thank you for offering this up. If the shit does hit the fan, my signature address is fine.
Bet acknowledged.

http://www.spreadmyad.com/sacramento/merchandise/computers/20619588-macbook-pro-13-inch-folsom-ca-900I would recommend serious buyers think twice about offering on this laptop, as someone is selling the same one on that above website (same photos, description, etc) for twice the price he's asking here. Although that alone doesn't make it a scraper-scam, it does leave an interesting question: why would anyone buy this without calling the provided phone number on the listing above and making sure it's really OP? Good find, so what's the trick to finding recycled ads? A lot of you guys are getting pretty good at finding old craigslist ads with the same pictures. Are you just doing a google search for the listing description and hoping they just copy pasted the whole thing? 1) Go to http://images.google.com2) Click the little camera icon in the text box 3) Paste the image URL of the scammer's 4) Look how many hits you get, paying attention to "Find other sizes of this image". This image was only used once apparently, but it's still yet to be seen if it's the same seller. I would call and confirm with the number to get this guy labeled as a scammer if it's not him. See the search results here

Interesting that he has a book he's trying to sell and it magically gets sold out in time with this petition

alright, just what we need - another scam.
i'm starting my own Bet. If Matthew N. Wright actually pays anyone that wins the bet against him that Pirate40 paysout i will return 200% to any bet placers. any takers?
Ironic, considering the entire point of the bet was to teach people a lesson who make accusations without any evidence. I guess I need to teach you a lesson as well. If you think that bet was a scam, I will escrow 100BTC with you right now (surely you can afford it since you were willing to offer 1200BTC to anyone who won my bet) that it is not a scam. If you don't do it, we know who the real scammer is, and with your track record of lies (how's your wife doing?) that should already be obvious. Ball's in your court.

Matt, I might have missed this but do I actually have to believe pirateat40 is a fraud or can I use this as a hedge? I'm in neither camp belief-wise and don't want to acquire either label.
Interesting. If someone else posts a double-or-nothing bet, but in the opposite direction, taking both bets equally is break-even. If someone posts a bet with better odds than double-or-nothing, arbitrage could be done to take an ensured profit (minus risk of default). I think you could bet half of your deposit and then be guaranteed half of your deposit
Not quite what I meant. I'm 15 btc short of having my original investment returned intact. If I wager 15 btc then I either have my original investment (if pirate defaults) or my return on investment is 15 btc less than it would have been (if pirate honours his commitments). Of course this is perfectly allowed. You want to bet 15 BTC that he won't pay. It's none of my business what the true agenda is behind that, so long as we both know that either one of us will pay in the event of losing. Go for it!

You don't have to -believe- either way, but the only bets allowed here are ones against pirate (i.e. in favor of him being a ponzi).

Guys, I'm happy to read all your counter bets and such (it's fun!) but I've reported them all as being off-topic. Take it to a new thread if you don't mind. We don't need any confusion here. Confusion leads to anger. Anger leads to hatred. Hatred leads to the dark side.

Seems matthew has some inside information... If tight with pirate in some way those people could know somin we dont and game others. But hey.. That sounds like typical btc antics to me and par for the course. Actually I'm just personally tired of accusations without evidence, even from my own working colleagues. I would never recommend anyone to 'invest' in pirate. His operations are not transparent and therefor risky. I think anyone who invests in him with money that cannot be thrown out the window is a total idiot and deserves to lose everything they have. That said, saying he is a 'ponzi' or 'scam' just because you don't understand what he's doing is a deep sickness in these forums that needs to be stomped out. Emotionless awareness, that is the ticket. Education. Calling everything a scam and everyone a scammer is, has and always will be annoying. The bet that I'm wagering is not really about pirate at all, it's about teaching the keyboard warriors that just because it's a forum and they pretend that they are anonymous, doesn't mean that they don't have to pay for their mistakes. So pay up. You think he's a ponzi, make some easy money. Otherwise, you're a coward and a liar. Basically.

Why would the issuer be defrauded? They have your bitcoins, and they can claw back anything they pay to a vendor. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to see that.
Good point, don't know what I was thinking. Back on track now

As awesome as it is to be able to actually -buy- things with my bitcoins, the very concept of creating this alternative decentralized currency free of the issues of credit cards, merely to add those issues on for convenience again is mind-numbing. I'll take one, don't get me wrong, because I love spending bitcoins-- but isn't this like being a cop and doing coke that you confiscate? Shouldn't we feel like we're destroying Bitcoin by not making it work in -other- ways, or is this going to be the way that gets it working more? Thoughts anyone?
Good point. The big huge plus is it means bitcoin can be used for every day transactions so its a foot in the door. The transaction fees will push folks towards using bitcoin directly, any smartphone or PC can do that, the main hurdle is getting them accepted and in use. I suppose so. I retract my initial inquiry entirely. It seems as long as we can 'sneak it in" and people say "If I use bitcoins, I can't spend them!", this can always be that slap in the face they need. That said, I feel really sorry for -any- company trying to offer these services because it seems like they're only going to be defrauded. I hope I'm wrong.

No! Hows that?
How's this: you're wrong, and everyone who has a copy of the Official Monopoly Rules can clearly see that you're wrong. The correct thing to do in a situation like this is either admit that you're wrong or explain why you still think that you're right. Both of these options allow you to appear to be an intelligent individual who just happened to be mistaken about one particular detail. But just saying "No!" makes you instead look like a complete idiot. You don't want to look like a complete idiot, do you? Yes! Hows that?
