2941  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: PAGCOR waiting for the approval to reopen land-based casinos. on: June 03, 2020, 06:06:39 AM
~ Do you think it's safe to reopen land-based gaming knowing that the cases are still increasing by hundreds every day?
Nobody is safe but the national government needs the huge revenue that will be generated from both land-based and online casinos. The case in most countries now is to prioritize health concerns, keep businesses close and let the economy drop even more OR take the health risks, open businesses for the economy to slowly recover.

Judging by the news that the number health facilities that will handle infected patients increased in the past two months, I think the reopening will be approved. Let's just hope that the safety measures will be strictly implemented.

~ If it's a question of government revenue, Philippines government should consider promoting online casinos as an alternative.
It's about revenue. It was a controversial topic in our local media (mainstream/social) before but POGO (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators) were allowed to reopen partially.
2942  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: June 03, 2020, 05:34:57 AM
Not sure.  I don't have a list of their bets 'bet per bet'.  Just go listen to the vids.  The thing is picking their brains and learning how they break down fights.  The results are just gravy.

Edit:  I heard Chuck Liddel is helping protect his neighorhood during the riots too.
It's like what you see in movies where fighters use their strength and ability to protect their city against the bad guys. They've become instant heroes and Dana is loving this good free publicity for the UFC for sure. Let's see if other MMA fighters would come out and do the same.

~
Once Cody Garbrandt lost his undefeated aura he is a completely different fighter.
Yup, too bad his team couldn't counter TJ's. They trained from the same gym before but it seems Duane Ludwig is the better coach.
2943  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tyson vs Holyfield Charity Fight on: June 03, 2020, 05:14:53 AM
~
they don't need that gear IMO because they're s real fighter and very professional boxer above the ring.
They are both former professional boxers.
Yeah, you see some videos of them training hard and looking fit but are they really fit to fight?
When was the last time they entered the ring and fought for real?

In fact if it's true that the fight will last in 3rd round no need to worry. Because it's just a short time for them.  Unlike when they were active which the fight always took 12 rounds before it ends.  So 3rd round is so easy for them.
I am pretty sure you have seen boxers getting knocked out in the first round.
If they are going to throw fake and weak punches, this will be easy for them for sure.

2944  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Home Court advantage = Not an advantage now because of no-live audience? on: June 03, 2020, 04:53:50 AM
Cheers from fans would certainly boost players confidence but even without live audiences, the team's pride to protect their turf is still intact. None of them would want to be embarrass. Another factor we have to look at is that home teams don't need to travel. They can just preserve their energy and that in itself is an advantage.

~
Home court could still be an advantage to some leagues mainly the NBA teams. Several players are used to playing and practicing in the same court where they get a slight advantage against their opponent. On other leagues like the MLB and NHL I think it'll be an even playing field because of other factors. I don't follow NHL that often but whenever I do watch a few there's always a visiting team that would win or pull a come back after trailing the entire game.
This. While it is true that court/field/ring measurements are standard, there's a different feel when you are playing in your home court (but I don't know if that's just me).

2945  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin broke 10K wall and Downtrend line on: June 03, 2020, 03:58:29 AM
I was probably one of first readers of this post yesterday. I thought the support at $9,900 was too high but decided to withheld on posting my opinion because I have no TA to back it up. The principle was, if there's no major catalyst that causes bitcoin to pump then it's most likely a trap set by "whales". It went up too fast, I expected it to come down hard.
2946  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin should never become fully anonymous- don't fool yourself on: June 02, 2020, 09:18:57 AM
Maybe not completely anonymous but would you agree that bitcoin transactions should be more private? Developments like Schnorr and Taproot to improve scalability and privacy is underway and may go live this year. Then there's another called Coinswap which was proposed recently as posted by @dkbit98 - Bitcoin Privacy Improvement with new CoinSwap

One thing I often hear is how bitcoin should become a fully anonymous cryptocurrency.  No, it shouldn't.  If people want bitcoin to truly become mainstream then making bitcoin fully anonymous would destroy that goal.
It could potentially destroy mixing/coinjoin services too.

2947  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin hits $10k, Coinbase goes down (again) on: June 02, 2020, 08:27:42 AM
LOL! This always happen when the price is starting to gain traction, I remember the exchange we are using in our country, the maintenance happens every time at the very short notice.

The naysayers says that this is happening because they are not going to profit from it. Care to explain?
Coinsph does not want to buy btc from you at a higher price especially during quick pumps since it's usually followed by a quicker dump. They are aware that there are more sellers in their platform in times of pump and more buyers in times of dump. In their case, it's like buying high and selling low. No profit.
2948  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Panahon Na Nga Ba Maging "Cashless Society" ang Pilipinas? on: June 02, 2020, 07:46:08 AM

Noong 2015, naglabas ang BSP ng mga programa to improve the digital payment infrastructure and encourage the citizens to go cashless. Isa na dyan yung National Retail Payment System (NRPS) which gave way to PESONet (launched Nov. 2017) at Instapay (launched April 2018) - take note of the launch dates at yung covergae ng 2017 BSP survey. These two made moving funds faster, cheaper, and more convenient which then led to wider acceptance of digital transactions by the public and even the business sector (including the SMEs).

So handa na ba ang Pinas for a cashless society? Not yet but we are getting there faster than before given the improvements I stated above (just think of how many more gcash/paymaya/coinsph can add to their system). The Government has also been leading the way dahil dumami na din ang agencies na tumatanggap ng digital payments but for further growth, kailangan pa talaga ng mas maraming cooperation ng Government at private sectors. DOLE, for example, has been pushing for the e-payment of wages.

For the latest assessment about the state of digital payments in the Philippines, read the 2019 report (short version / full version) by Better Than Cash Alliance (BTCA). Binabasa din yan ng BSP.

I'm just to highlight some parts of the report:
Quote
Increased adoption of payment cards and mobile money by consumers.
Investments by banks and other payment service providers have resulted in 21 million Filipinos owning prepaid and debit cards, up from 12.7 million in 2013. Similarly, mobile money was barely on the horizon in 2013. By 2018, active mobile money accounts had jumped to 5 million, driven by fintech companies and low-cost, QR code enabled payments.Recent investments by fintech players in customer acquisition have yielded these gains: building awareness, offering incentives and subsidized fees. Purchasing airtime is a popular use of mobile money accounts, as seen in other geographies. Prepaid and debit cards are increasingly used for making payments to merchants.

Increase in acceptance of digital payments by merchants.
Incumbent banks and fintechs alike are driving acquisition through partnerships with large retailers and chains. Further, acquirers are subsidizing initial setup costs, such as the cost of the point-of-sale (PoS) terminals. This has led to a year-on-year improvement of 19% in merchant acceptance.

~ As of the latest Financial Inclusion Survey na ginawang ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas nuong 2017, 77% o 52.8 million na Filipino adults ay wala pa ding bank accounts. How can we be a cashless society if karamihan pa sa populasyon natin ay walang formal bank account? The success of being a cashless society ay talagang naka-depende ba talaga kung handa na ang sarili nating populasyon na maging digital yung mga payments natin, kung karamihan pa sa populasyon natin ang unbanked o yung mga taong wala man lang bank account will you say we are ready for a cashless system?
Financial services like Gcash and Coinsph gained massive popularity dahil na-capture nila yung mga taong yun (no need for a bank account to top up). The point is, bank accounts are not necessary to move for a cashless society kung may financial services naman allowing the unbanked to make digital payments (coinsph even have their own ad like "I am my own bank" or something like that).

I do not recommend newbies to begin with the Bitcoin white paper, it's not a resource for beginners' as it contains lots of technical stuff about the Bitcoin network. More interactive learning is the better alternative imo. YouTube videos and online courses. This forum is also a repository for Bitcoin information, and this can be accessed using the SEARCH option.

~
Maybe this would work for people who has a deep backround in programming, understanding the whitepaper will be quite more difficult to grasp if you do not know how to read basic syntax used in programming language. I myself is having this difficulty  Sad "Mastering bitcoin" is a good resource and I am currently using this as a reference to understand technicalities embedded in the technology. It is useful since the audience of the book is versatile meaning it can be a good resource for programmers and end user.

Would you guys agree that all articles/blogs/forum guide posts/Youtube videos/Online courses about bitcoin also came from the whitepaper? They all contain technical terms too.

It is obvious that newbies cannot understand all of it immediately. He/She can start reading now and then look for other resources that can expound on specific topic written in the WP later.
2950  Other / Meta / Re: [TelegramBot] Merit watcher and Mention Notification Bot on: June 01, 2020, 06:58:28 AM
Didn't receive notifications for @mention and quote. The second was probably because it was inserted later (no notifcation from Tryninja's as well) but I'm not sure why the first one was missed by the bot.

Hope you're not just another shil account like @Bttzed03 is suggesting.  Tell us a little about yourself.
Judging people without any proof/evidence is not good IMO, especially if he didn't do bad thing on this forum (e.g. ban evasion, cheating etc)
I was asking because of the striking similarity in their usernames. Neither am I suggesting he/she is an alt nor judging.

NO I am not related to BIT-BENDER at all.And My intention for joining this forum to learn and Discuss about bitcoin.Actually in crypto market we should go ahead by following success gainers. And I think this is the place where I will see them together at the same platform.
So you want to learn the technicalities of bitcoin and also price speculation (trading) at the same time? If yes, then my personal advice is to focus on one thing before going to the next. If you start reading the whitepaper and mastering it before doing anything else, you'll most likely do better than most starters

One thing I wish I could have done before is to learn the technology behind bitcoin first. I was already trading and going after money making opportunities with little knowledge about Bitcoin and Blockchain.

Hello all senior Members
I am new in this forum and already read the forum rules carefully.I think I am too late to start forum posting. But I wish I will do hard work and will contribute by doing something special and helpful.
I need your advices which is fully your personal opinion.
Welcome!

You said you already read the forum rules "carefully". Follow them.
If you need more posting guidelines, read stickies in each board.

I don't know what advice you want to hear. May I first ask your intention for joining the forum?

Are you somehow related to BIT-BENDER?
2953  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JPMorgan Now Says Bitcoin (BTC) Is Significantly Undervalued (Huge Turn around) on: June 01, 2020, 04:47:12 AM
~
So taking all that into account, I don't feel happy their stance towards BTC seems more positive lately. Bitcoin was made to show that we don't need these manipulative capitalists, not to give them a chance to profit.
Yeah, they can pump it anytime now and then sell slowly or dump. After the profit taking, they will create FUD once again and say that bitcoin is overvalued Grin

Whether we like it or not, bitcoin became an investment asset and because it's a free market, anyone can take part. Institutional investors coming in is bound to happen and many have predicted that they'll join sooner or later. I also remember some time in 2018 reading posts from people hoping institutional investors to inject money into crypto because they can no longer endure the bear market.

UFC 250
^ Countdown to this event - https://youtu.be/pEyEiPvPjio
Full episode - https://youtu.be/7FyzpX_mjaU

I'm particulary interested in what Garbrandt has to offer here. So much promise for this guy before but he's been on a three fight losing streak since winning the title against Dominick Cruz (a guy whom nobody could beat at the time).

2956  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China's new law for protecting CryptoCurrency. on: May 31, 2020, 06:59:08 AM
~ So this means KYC to identify/prove if you are the true heir of the said cryptocurrency?
Takes out the privacy thing.
I'd rather let them inherit a piece of paper with all the details rather than giving out all my information.
Heirs have to be verified whether the property to be inherited is a house or a land. It shouldn't be different if the inheritance are cryptocurrencies. We're also  talking about China here. A country where privacy is not that important.
2957  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China's new law for protecting CryptoCurrency. on: May 31, 2020, 06:36:18 AM
Yeah, pass them bitcoins to the second, third, fourth, or even tenth generations until they can be allowed to spend it on something.

There isn't much information on how they're planning on making such thing work though. But by the sounds of it, probably not a good idea? As for the funds to be inherited someone else should have access to the keys. Well, unless the funds are in custody in the first place, which we know is not a good idea in most cases.
Yup. If a Chinese citizens accidentally dies without telling any of his family about the private keys/seed phrase to non-custodial wallets, then nobody can inherit it. If it's stored on a custodial service, then maybe it's possible to track and retrieve them.
2958  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: May 31, 2020, 06:01:42 AM
A disappointing comeback for Woodley. It could be ring rust from the long lay off. He is already out of title contention and may need two or three impressive bouts before he can be back. Maybe it's time for the former champ to retire, he's already 38-years old anyway. I don't see him winning against upcoming fighters at welterweight unless he does a Daniel Cormier.

2959  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Good news from Ohio - Sports betting will be legal now. on: May 31, 2020, 05:48:56 AM
~ Furthermore I don’t understand why are people against this bill, because gamblers will always continue to gamble, but by making sports betting legal the state will earn additional revenue, which can further be used for the state’s development in the long run.
Maybe religion, morality, and other values. The bill states 21 years of age and above though, bettors of that age should be able to think well for themselves. Opposition to legalizing the betting on collegiate sports seems valid to me. Throwing away games which is supposed to be for fun, friendship, and school pride could become more rampant because of this.

They should have done this a long time ago, they are like refusing taxes coming from the sportsbook, so now maybe they feel the need to raise their revenue due to the pandemic, so they decided to approve sports betting as their option.
I was wondering about this as well. The effect of the pandemic to their economy could have played a role in their decision.
2960  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Bitcoin at Banko on: May 31, 2020, 05:09:18 AM
~ Being said naisip ko lang po, if we do this process to store our money sa mga wallets natin we are not helping the growth of our economy.
Almost the same with saving fiats sa ating mga piggy banks actually.

If storing up and hodling would make someone rich in a few years, who knows anong pwede niyang gawin sa pera niya. Maybe he could also start a business of his own and hire employees...the list goes on.

~
First of all, ang pagsasave ng ating pera sa bangko doesn't mean it will grow. it depends if you'll just store it, or let the bank make it grow through either Mutual Funds or Investments. Kaya lang naman kumikita ang bangko, AFAIK, is dahil sa fees through transactions and somehow they manipulate those savings onto making it big nang hindi mo choice, kasi in fact pera lang yun eh may label lang ng pangalan ng owner. Hence, saving money in banks doesn't always ends up na nakakatulong sa economy. (mas malaki padin ang tulong ng taxes)
Allow me to expound on the OP's point on how depositing money helps boost the economy.
