2981  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining in College Dorm room? on: April 23, 2018, 04:07:56 AM
Hey I'm thinking about making some money on the side and mining in my college dorm room where electricity is payed for... What do ya think? I've never done this. Is it worth it?

I'm sure that your landlord will kill you if he/she find out what you are doing! Grin, the cost of electricity is to high that your landlord will cry after seeing the electric bill, but I think it this is also a good idea and a good start for bitcoin mining, just as permission first before building a rig at the dorm.

unless you are planning to run a mining farm with 50 mining rigs, i don't see how the cost of electricity can be high enough for anyone to even notice! as a college student i doubt that he is willing to invest that much either!

what he can do is to build a gaming PC (basically a strong GPU or two) and then mine altcoins with that PC. the electricity cost of running such a PC is not that high to raise any flags.

Well yes, but if he's going to do something like this it's not like he's even taking advantage of the situation that he has himself in right now. He does have an advantageous situation when it comes to mining for free, but if he does on a bigger scale to even really make it worthwhile HE'S GOING TO SCREW SOMETHING UP PRETTY BAD -- the school won't be happy.

So yeah, I guess if you want to try it try it with a few cards at first. See how that goes. Let us know
2982  Economy / Speculation / Re: How does the 2017 tax deadline affect the bitcoin price? on: April 23, 2018, 03:36:48 AM
Well as it has already passed, we've seen that it really doesn't do a lot to the price itself. Some may say that it has recovered the bull market, but I think that the market moves in it's own way and doesn't care about the news which is surrounding it. As I think that we hit the bottom and then we just started going up and up, after a pretty large slump from 20k to 6k.

So, It didn't do much. People just hyped it up like they do everything else.
2983  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency Career Opportunities - Especially With Markets Being Down on: April 23, 2018, 02:41:13 AM
If you are negotiating for fix payment than best moment for doing so is at a dip, because at that moment value is at its lowest and person can get more coins for their services, so its just like you said.
But there are also agreements that are flexible when it comes to payment. So if value of crypto is rising, payment in crypto is lowered and otherwise. So everything comes to agreement that you have with your employers.
After all, maybe best option would be fix payment, but in that case if price drops you are at loss. Life is full of risks, so everything depends on personal opinion at the end.

This would also REQUIRE the person to be able to be flexible with their payments, and for their employer to have a steady supply of bitcoin with that they're going to be flexible with. What's going to happen in reality is that the owner is going to be happen when bitcoin is down and when they're able to pay the worker less, and the worker is going to happy when bitcoin is up a ton -- as they're going to get paid a lot more if they're fixed.

I doubt this will ever happen, people like safety and certainty with their money. As of right now, bitcoin doesn't give them that.
2984  Economy / Services / Re: urgent: we hire community manager, (can newbie); paid 50$ per day on: April 23, 2018, 01:00:42 AM
Highly doubt you're going to be paying some random person on the internet $50 per day to be your community manager, but I'll shoot a pm to see if this'll work out. Would you be willing to post some more information on the topic? I would like to see if you have someone hired already to see if it's even worth my time, and all the other peoples time who are replying to this thread.

Let us know.
2985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin a criminal tool? on: April 23, 2018, 12:51:32 AM
The nature of Bitcoin is great. But because it is not any of the managers, users in the underworld ... so Bitcoin was used by criminals to influence the Bitcoin image in the eyes of government leaders and people. Governments and Bitcoin themselves are rapidly taking steps to ensure that Bitcoin soon affirms its true nature as serving the legitimate interests of the people.

See but the fact of the matter is that FIAT USD (and all other currencies) are used for a ton more drug stuff then bitcoin is even used. So it's not a problem which is only present in Bitcoin, this is a world problem. The media is trying to JUST portray this as the issue because they think that they can kill bitcoin fast if they say it's just a drug currency. That will, of course, deter people from wanting to use it, invest, etc.

The media is a crazy thing, they're here for the elites to sway public opinion.
2986  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining in College Dorm room? on: April 23, 2018, 12:40:19 AM
While you could do it, yes, you're probably going to have some people in your room a tad mad at you for the heat which is going to be a problem -- this is if you scale and have a good amount of cards running at once. Also, you're going  to have someone from the college be mad at you due to you using a massive amount of electricity (as they probably track room by room)

This is going to be something which I would advise against doing unless you own your own place, which you don't right now.
2987  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How long does it take Poloniex to complete Open Orders? on: April 23, 2018, 12:30:00 AM
Ok that makes more sense, placed order to sell at the current price at the time of $8979 this morning and price has dropped a good bit since then

So I'm going to guess you didn't use a market order, as that would have made the trade go through instantly. You most likely went to trying to use some sort of limit order ( or something of that nature) and your trade didn't go through as the market moved around.

Could we see exactly what your order looks like in order to further help ya out with this problem. Wouldn't want someone trying to buy / sell 13 btc and it not work for them!
2988  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: best type of analysis to use on: April 23, 2018, 12:23:20 AM
You're not going to find anything, markets go up and they go down. It happens -- there's nothing that you can do about it. It's going to happen. You can't try to predict the market, you can't try to find a good time to enter and a good time to exit. TA is used by people to reassure them of their own research, it shouldn't be used as your ONLY decision maker when it comes to trading.

Some people have their own methods, though I only LIKE to use holding as it seems to be the only thing which has worked on a long term basis.
2989  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How helpful do you think it would be trading on a multiple exchanges... on: April 22, 2018, 11:15:32 PM
While it would be cool, it's not something which would be possible given the current exchanges and laws in each country. One of the biggest problems right now that we have is that certain countries don't allow US citizens (or others) on their exchanges. So this AI would still have to be verifierd on a person by person basis. This AI would also make a mega exchange too, making money from buying on one exchange on selling on another would be all but removed due to it.

I don't see this ever being made though, I don't see the demand present at the moment.
2990  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin become centralized with Lightning Network ? on: April 22, 2018, 11:05:02 PM
No, the nodes are operated by independent parties. I would think that due to the nodes being run by regular individuals that people wouldn't  be able to centralize, and then further corruput the system. And while this link on the subject I found isn't directly related to bitcoin, it does still show what the case is like on the LN for ALL coins - https://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/7sirre/isnt_lightning_network_centralized_if_so_isnt/

Check it out, the people on here seem to know it well.
2991  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Amazon fills patent to track Bitcoin users on: April 22, 2018, 08:11:56 PM
Guys. I don't really understand what the point of this process is. Why track your customers. After all, this way you can forget about anonymity. Embarrassed

Why track your customers? Because there is an insane amount of money in selling peoples information online. Advertisers (and goverments) will pay do much in order to try to sell you shit. That’s the world we live in today.

Crazy, eh? Amazons shareholders are happy though
2992  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The Virtues of the Great HODL on: April 22, 2018, 05:38:46 PM
In my eyes there comes a certain point where you have to HODL, when your portfolio is down so much that there is no chance that you're going to cut your losses now and lose out on a potentially high amount of profits if you are to stay in the game. The big thing a lot of people miss in crypto is that we have always bounced back (based on our past performance) So there is data to show that we have recovered from these sorts of losses and are going to do it again.

I'm going to HODL, who knows what the others do.
2993  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin recovered 7.6% from Friday: what are the prospects? on: April 22, 2018, 05:21:34 PM
If BTC/USD breaks through $9.1k, I see $11k on the horizon. $9.1k was a strong resistance level in March.

Even though I usually say that no one knows which way the market is going to go, I do think that there is a psychological barrier at 9000-9100. So if we were to break through this, I do think we may go through some sort of bull run. But then again, my guess is as good as nothing in the world of crypto.

We could go fucking up, down, sideways, to zero, or to a million. No one knows.
2994  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Did Blockfolio and Lendroid fool people? on: April 22, 2018, 03:49:32 PM
I don't get it. How is this Blockfolio's fault? Did you see Lendroid through Blockfolio's ICO countdown? If so, it's very likely that it's just a paid advertisement and it doesn't necessarily mean that Blockfolio is partners or affiliated with that certain coin. Remember that not because you see an advertisement of something it doesn't necessarily mean it's legitimate.

I'm not saying lendroid is a scam, but if they didn't give updates to their investors for 1 month already, then that's a huge red flag in my opinion.

This right here, I wouldn't blame google for some of the shitty ads I get sometimes. Nor would I blame coinmarket cap for some of the ads that end up on the top of their site. It comes up time and time again, you can't blame the medium for delivering the ads -- you still have to do your due dilligence when it comes to getting into ICO's or buying anything on here in crypto.

It's still the wildwest.
2995  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Newbie in crypto trading, whelp! Bot or human? on: April 22, 2018, 03:34:58 PM
Most bots aren't going to be able to make you money during a bear market, which is the one we were just in, they're just going to try to limit your losses. Bots depend fully on the settings that you give them, so garbage in is going to be garbage out for these bots. In the times of a bull market they may bring in some money, but who knows. I've never trusted bots to do my bidding, I'd rather be in control of my trades.

What if the bot messes up? I don't trust that sort of thing with my money.
2996  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Day trade is more a lucky thing or skill on: April 22, 2018, 03:21:24 PM
It's a luck thing, you may stay lucky for a pretty long time but you're not going to be able to keep up the streak forever. Day trading with this type of volatility is going to be tough, sometimes it could be good to you and sometimes it would be catastrophic if the market goes the other way. I wouldn't do it.

Come here for the long haul and you'll probably do the best. If past performance works out then you'll really do amazing.
2997  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Resources to learn crypto trading? on: April 22, 2018, 03:10:51 PM
I mean you can waste your time learning TA, it's not useful here and is only used by people to either try to sway the market to be bull or sway the market to be bear. No lines on a chart is going to predict what a HUMAN is going to decide to do with their coins. So I wouldn't waste your time with it, learn how fundamentals work, how the news effects the price (it works differently then you think), check gov regulation, etc. Those are the biggest things to know the impact of IMO

But then again, the crypto market could go every different way then you think. Be prepared to change and learn on the fly.
2998  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency Career Opportunities - Especially With Markets Being Down on: April 22, 2018, 02:42:48 PM
Not really smart for people who are depending on their income in order to survive. You're pretty much-telling people to earn money from selling their services online, then holding the bitcoin for a long period of time in order to (hopefully) sell it for more money later on. There's no guarantee that this is going to go up forever. We've seen downturns (pretty heavy ones)

If you need this money to survive, don't put it in bitcoin. It's really plain and simple.
2999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everyone needs to report the @Bitcoin twitter handle immediately on: April 22, 2018, 02:25:38 PM
ok guys.. think of it this way

america - we have the dollar
australia - we have the dollar
america - no we have the dollar
australia - no we have the dollar

.... reality..
both of you shut up you both have the dollar. no one can decide who should own the trademark of "dollar" because no one should. even zimbabwee should be able to have the dollar.

This right here, I don't really think it's a problem for Ver to have the twitter account bitcoin and try to promote his coin. This would silence his argument and fail to bring  his side of the community to the table, which is unfair and unlike us I would assume. I'm not a fan of Ver either -- but is silencing him REALLY the best thing we can do.

Let him speak, even if people don't support what he has to say.
3000  Economy / Speculation / Re: Your experience with FOMO (fear of missing out) on: April 22, 2018, 02:22:24 PM
Oh I've had so much of it, I bought bitcoin on the way up to 20000, thank god I sold around 20,000 made a small profit and then left. I was pretty happy with whatever I made, but if I had gotten too greedy I would have lost a shit ton of money. I've thankfully recovered from all of the times I bought due to fomo. I know many though haven't recovered from this and are still waiting for bitcoin to go back to 20k -- that would hurt a TON.
