2001  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump effect led to Israel barring the entry of two Congresswomen. on: August 16, 2019, 02:44:14 PM
Imagining visiting Israel but entered into the travel itinerary that you are vising Palestine? Meaning they don't believe Israel has a right to the country as a state. They didn't even request to meet any Israeli officials or to be meet by them. Thy just wanted to go look for something to spite Israel with as the visit is not with good intention in my own opinion.

The ban is a good move by all standard.

The idea of trying to hate people because of religious reason is all wrong. And there is absolutely no other real reason Omar is doing this except for being a Muslim.

+1 to this.

This lady openly acknowledges that Israel shouldn't exist, and that is how Palestine works and thinks.

It's fair for you to be barred from a nation for something like this, though Israel has already backtracked and stated that they're allowing her to come for a humanitarian visit as she wants to visit her grandmother. She's stated she won't accept this and isn't coming -- POLITICAL PLAY.
2002  Other / Politics & Society / Trump wants to buy Greenland on: August 16, 2019, 02:27:55 AM
Random information out of left field, but I don't think the White House has commented on it.

Trump is thinking about purchasing Greenland. He's been floating the idea with WH legal counsel, and different aides in the WH to see if this is something he can do. Unknown on if he is really seriousness about this, but it's something that has without a doubt been talked about.

Unknown on why: Past the fact that Greenland has a large amount of natural resources, but I can't see something like this actually coming to fruition. I'd love to see what people think about this.

2003  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bustabit.com SCAM on: August 16, 2019, 02:01:07 AM
Op got scam by someone else but title said "Bustabit scam". So the title of this thread is totally wrong. Sorry for lose but most likely you lost your fund due to your greedy behaviour. There is no any other way to get back your fund because your account has been hacked. You should not share screen with any unknown person. They might hack everything from your computer. Remember, scammers are more than smarter from us.

Op should change the title of your thread.

Yup.

This was a way to get peoples attention, as there was obviously no hack here. This was a slip of a persons judgement driven by greed, nothing more and nothing less.

Pretty sad to see someone lose money, but you truly do have to be more cautious and you can't trust anyone.
2004  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Democrats are moving the goal posts, shifting from Russia to Racism on: August 16, 2019, 01:54:43 AM
I've been seeing this in recent days. Democrats have now been shifting the narrative on Trump. Instead of continuing to push the false narrative that Trump is a Russian asset and a Russian spy (and whatever else they attempt to spew) -- which has been debunked by the Mueller report.

They're now going back to what lost them the presidential race, they're back to calling Trump a racist and a xenophobe and whatever other buzzword here. They've failed to note that their last plan didn't work, and that they're alienating a vital part of the electorate with those statements.

I'd love to hear what others thing about the subject area.

There's also been a subtle change in the definition of "racism" in the last two years.

Subtle, the sarcasm here is great. Racism has evolved from a true term of value, one that would really mean something when it would be said to another person to something that people simply gloss over because they know it now means "Someone that I don't agree with"

Horrible what people are doing to this country and around the world.

If you think that racism is something, you have succumbed to all the lies of politicians who are trying to make more war, just so their stocks in the military companies will go up.

Cool

Racism is a real thing though. It's unfair to say that to people that actually experienced Racism in their life, as that's a disservice to them.

Racism is real, true racism is real. Racism isn't "I don't agree with your opinion" or " I hate your political opinions"

Lets be real. OKAY?
2005  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [US Only] Legalization of the sex trade? on: August 15, 2019, 11:29:03 PM
Unknown on the types of regulations that I would enact, but on a broad scale I think the idea is very good.

There's no reason that this sort of thing should be underground, run by gangs and some horrible people. We can regulate it, bring people out of the control of pimps and gangs, and bring them into a regulated industry that will force certain types of regulations onto owners to ensure that their workers are protected (and not spreading diseases as well)

Prime taxing opportunity tbh, plus it would save on the policing of this trade as well.
2006  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2019-08-15 Prepare to a bloodbath in the stock market if it works! on: August 15, 2019, 09:47:48 PM
You know the saying goes:

Economists have called 10 out of the past 5 recessions.

These people don't know what they're doing, they're just saying things and sometimes it works out and other times it doesn't. If you are to truly look at their full record, from start to finish, you're going to find something that shows them being wrong pretty much all the time.

People don't know what's going to happen, especially reporters when it comes to world panicks.

Even if this is a pretty cool thing that could happen, it's not going to effect the market if the Chinese are prepared and such.

2007  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your least favorite Basic Strategy move in Blackjack on: August 15, 2019, 09:34:50 PM
One word. Insurance. I don't know why, but no matter the argument, it's my LEAST favourite basic of BJ.

I'm not too sure about the odds on this, but for any kind of Black Jack that offers insurance, some systems say it gives you a slight edge and you should always take insurance if you don't have any 10s. But it's bollocks to me to insure to win 2/1 for a roughly over 2/1 event and so I simply play no insurance BJ.

Oh insurance is horrible. Odds ALWAYS say that this is a horrible bet all the time. The only way buying insurance is GOOD is if you're a card counter and know that the next card is (or has a high probability of being, a 10)

Take a quote from SFGate and Wizard of Odds

To quote Michael Shackleford, a.k.a., the Wizard of Odds, "The greater the ratio of 10 in the shoe, the more likely the insurance bet is to win." The operative words in this sentence are "in the shoe." If you've got two 10s in your hand, the last thing you want to do is bet that another one of them is hiding beneath the dealer's ace.

Insurance is a good bet in other realms, horrible in betting.

2008  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The secret of gambling? on: August 15, 2019, 09:31:09 PM
Secret: Don't gamble.

If you don't gamble, and instead invest you're money you're going to thank yourself when you retire because not only are you going to have a large amount of money once you retire. But you're also not going to have the horrible side effects of gambling: Sleepless nights, stress, etc.

Invest, don't gamble. Or at least KNOW YOUR LIMITS and don't gamble more then you can afford to lose.
2009  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Massive Dramatic Hongkong Protest Against Extradition Law on: August 15, 2019, 09:25:20 PM
Hasn't the Chinese government backtracked on the changes to the law. If this is so, then the protests are no longer relevant.

Don't you find it surprising that all the banners and protest chants are in English, and not in any of the local dialects.

Eh I mean -- 46 percent of the local population speaks English, so it's not crazy to think that the people that are protesting have the ability to speak English. (https://www.tripsavvy.com/do-people-in-hong-kong-speak-english-1535867)

But they want a formal withdrawing of the bill, which hasn't been present yet. They also want further changes, as this has caused people to look at what Chinese rule is really like. Here's the list of demands:

the withdrawal of the extradition bill; the retraction of the government’s characterisation of the protests as riots; an independent investigation into police violence; amnesty for arrested protesters; and the implementation of universal suffrage.

2010  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should Andrew Yang Give Everyone Unlimited Money? on: August 15, 2019, 01:18:17 PM
He has the best of both worlds, as he can say whatever he wants and his ideas will never truly be put the test. So when he losses, he can continue to blame others because his ideas were never given a chance.

I agree with you.  But was this an intentionally ironic sentence? lol

Eh. No.

Was more or less just trying to get the point across that this is very similar to someone like Ross Perot -- who had amazing ideas for his time, but never was able to put them to the test due to himself dropping out of the election and then getting back in late.

The reasoning behind this is due to the fact that Ross never wanted his ideas to be put the test, most likely like Yang doesn't want his to be.
2011  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Massive Dramatic Hongkong Protest Against Extradition Law on: August 15, 2019, 06:11:51 AM

I mean I don't know, if you told me that the Chinese government is going to try to get an extradition bill passed that could allow them to abuse this power to take people from Hong Kong into Chinese custody (which is notorious for some shady things) for simply not agreeing with the Chinese government, I think I'd be pretty angry too.

This is like saying: Why are you so mad that I didn't allow you to speak freely?

That is actually one of the reasons why this protests leads into a very disastrous acts because in the first place we all know how Hong Kong people usually criticizes the main land China's government. At first they are speaking out because they wanted to tell the Hong Kong government not to fall into the trap. But then it seems that they were being censored by the government that makes them more angry because of that "freedom of speech".

Quote
The Chinese government deserves all the hell that they're getting right now, and they deserve to have to succumb to the sheer force of numbers of the people in Hong Kong.
Actually this is not the cased right now. Hong Kong people are trying to ask help for the international community because their government wouldn't listen to them. Then Trump made a statement that this issue is only between HK and China which is actually a pretty bad sign for the Hong Kong people. In this case the Chinese government might be able to have a full control over HK then everyone who will try to oppose it might be in great trouble.

Most western nations are trying to stick a weird balance between working with the Chinese, and protecting Democracy in the world -- which they have been trying to do for a long amount of time now.

Hong Kong is even a more special case, as there was an agreement between the Chinese and the British to ensure that Hong Kong would have their own separate government for a certain amount of time (I'm pretty sure that's how that worked) And now they're failing to work within that agreement, as they continuously meddle within the HK government -- and this is just one of the many examples.

HK is not in big trouble now, they've been in trouble for a long time as they're sadly under the control of the Chinese. We'll see what the future holds though.
2012  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Hillary Is Fundraising on: August 15, 2019, 03:43:43 AM
She really want that position doesn't she? You think she'll do a quick backstab to be the party's candidate again?

Anyway, may a thousand Hillarys rain down on America!  Grin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uH8owcMHc34

Don't know what she really wants, but I do know this story is made up.  No evidence anywhere of her fundraising for a presidential campaign and if she waits a couple more months to start she will be shut out of all the debates and have basically no chance in Iowa, which is only 6 months away.  Just doesn't add up.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/hillary-clinton/hillary-clinton-steps-back-fray-fundraise-democrats-fall-n902326

Cool

No doubt she will be fundraising for the DNC, just like she did for the midterms.  That's not the same as raising money so she can run for president herself though.

Do you understand the difference?

He obviously doesn't and he doesn't want to. All he wants is to post some crazy website to support whatever he thinks is going to happen in the world, then he post another website link that has nothing to do about what he's talking about but uses it to make it seem like his point has more credibility.

No one in their right mind at the DNC is going to let Clinton run again, she's already lost twice and she's the worst candidate in modern history. She lost against Trump for god sake like come on.
2013  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Massive Dramatic Hongkong Protest Against Extradition Law on: August 15, 2019, 03:34:44 AM
Bump.

Hong Kong protests are still ongoing. China's pretty evil.

It is indeed still happening just of yesterday, the protesters were very desperate about how they wanted to regain their freedom of speech that are being taken away from them. Sad to say but they've been quite very aggressive this time. I mean I personally do not know the whole  story yet but according to "News" the riot started when some of the protesters started hitting 2 people from the mainland China during their protest in the Hong Kong International Airport.

The protesters tho apologized to the affected passengers last night and they are asking for forgiveness cause again they emphasized how they really wanted to show how desperately they've wanted to have the said freedom of speech that might be taken away from them after this bill is passed.

But can we actually really blame them? I have gathered as much references as I could so you can try to check the different sides of this story.

A statement coming from Beijing that this protest are showing "signs of Terrorism". Are they really are? or China "might" be obviously using this card so they can use their power to Hong Kong citizens?
https://twitter.com/tictoc/status/1160869145669459968

According to  Ai Weiwei an Artist probably from Hong Kong, the  future of Hong Kong is "pretty dark". After Trump said that he will not going to interfere with this the police authorities started to being more aggressive and shutting down every protesters as possible.
https://twitter.com/tictoc/status/1160947814681251841

We may see again the scenario of the student demonstration breakdown in 1989.

I am personally hoping that it will not going to happen anymore.

2014  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should Andrew Yang Give Everyone Unlimited Money? on: August 15, 2019, 03:30:26 AM
We've had tons and tons of threads about why UBI could be vital. But the one thing that I and Theymos have said is that if you want something like UBI to flourish, and to not be a burden on the taxpayers -- YOU NEED TO REMOVE EVERY OTHER SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAM.

Everything. Medicare, Medicaid, Food stamps, housing benefits, ETC. Everything from the federal level all the way down to the local level.

If you're going to be spending this amount of money, in the ballpark of $12,000 per year per person in the US (obvious restrictions of within a certain income, and then cost of living increases and decreases)

This system can work, but everyone has to be onboard for it. As it would eliminate a large amount of government jobs that are unnecessary (think of all the people handling SS payments, medicare, housing, food stamps, etc) and replace it with a simple system with a much smaller amount of employees.

Yangs plan is to have stuff like food stamps and other welfare programs count against your $1k a month.

So if you collect $300/month in food stamps, you get $700 instead of $1k.  And if you are collecting more than $1k/month then you are not eligible for the UBI.

I don't know about medicare/medicaid though.  I don't think you can just get rid of it.  $1k/month won't be much good if you need a $35k operation to live.

It seems like his plan would be to eventually have them all phased out (other than the health stuff), but realistically that would probably take more than a single term, or even two.

One question I would like to see asked of him is what he thinks will happen if he gets elected but the Republicans maintain hold of the Senate?  Something tells me Mitch won't be very cooperative.

Doesn't sound too bad though I would want to see the elimination of all plans if this were the case, as that's the best way to fiscially go about things. I think the best way to go about medicare/mediciaid would be to up payments if someone is seriously ill or something along those lines.

Well -- the beauty of being Yang is two things.

1. He's never going to be able to win anyway, so his ideas don't really need to be put up to the test.

2. Even if he does win, none of this is going to happen. Federal, state, and local workers aren't just going to willfully lose their jobs in order to allow for a program like this to be setup. Nor is the Republican (and some parts of the Dems) be happy with this plan as well. So yeah.

He has the best of both worlds, as he can say whatever he wants and his ideas will never truly be put the test. So when he losses, he can continue to blame others because his ideas were never given a chance.

Highly doubt this is true.  Not seeing any actual evidence.  Seems like a right wing crazy just trying to rile people up and say things like "Oh good lord can't she just go away and stay away?"

It's not, this is from one of those BS news sites that just loves to throw some big names -- like Clinton -- into something in order to get some people to pay attention. It's bullshit, and it's not fair at all to real journalism.

This is fake news, and you should be ashamed of yourself for sharing it.

So if you're so good at e-sports betting and such, why sell your secrets? Why not just bet all your money, and some investors money into your bets instead of just selling out for a low sum of money like you're doing.

Probably because the real money is made in having people pay you for bets, instead of gambling.
2017  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Tether (USDT) supported gambling platform? on: August 14, 2019, 04:33:56 PM
Pretty much just a massive compliance nightmare, and Tether would most likely not allow any of the gambling sites addresses to even hold tether anyway. As they'd be able to block certain addresses due to regulatory issues. This is why you're able to use BTC and any other crypto, probably including DAI (WHICH IS BACKED 1:1) On these gambling sites as they have no centralized authority that could block people from receiving $

Would be nice, as it would allow gamblers to avoid the volatility of BTC -- but it's impossible in our current regulatory and centralized framework of that stablecoin.
2018  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Employment is over rated (build your own empire). on: August 13, 2019, 03:55:37 PM
But lets be real : This sort of thing is not for everyone. Plus, when you're saying that the reason that the vast majority of people become uber wealthy is due to the fact that they've started their own companies -- that's true, but it doesn't look at everything.

It should still be for everyone who dreamed of. You are right that in reality most persons who tries to build there own empire are broke. I myself is one of that right now. I am trying to build my own business from scratch having zero budget. I am only getting  slight amount from here and from doing sideline freelancing jobs locally. It is pretty hard for me because I am still young having only a few years of experience. Doing all the stuffs, Making a logo for my branding, UI/UX designs, been studying programming languages for awhile specifically JS Angular Framework for my front end and Node.js for the backend part. I might fail but atleast I tried.

However I  am still very determined to continue doing this because I know for a fact that I am happy doing it even if It is still not yet finished and I am currently not earning even a single penny from it. If I can no longer put a food on my plate thats the time that I might "Pause" this for awhile and find some stable job but then I am surely going back.

I am the type of guy before who doesn't care about dreaming of making a living doing things that i loved which is online gaming. After I got sick tho, I realized that I am not happy with my job and I am too tired dealing with my co employees and employer. Thats the time where you will realize that it is still never too late to do it.

A once philosopher said
"One of the biggest regrets of a dying person is not about the things he have done but those things that he never did".

Well yes. But what I am getting to is that we will always look at the people who flourished through being an entrepreneur and we'll never look at the countless other people who have failed trying to become the next Zuckerberg.

I'm not taking a shot at you at all, as I think it is great (and vital) that we have people starting their own businesses and trying to innovate. Though we shouldn't force everyone down this path.

2020  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [Opinion] Would a Community Managed Social Network be any good? on: August 13, 2019, 02:09:05 PM
First the stuff that everyone thinks is horrible is removed and there's no problem there, but when advertisers come in and want other things removed or the site is going to have to shut down people usually change their minds pretty quickly.

Well that really is an issue, I think even with some sort of community guideline etched in stone. Maybe they can just design the site so that the ads can differ depending on the post, like how in Youtube you can choose which videos you like your ad to show up? Maybe like the ad is some sort of signature that you only see when you expand that person's posts, like when clicking "Read more".

IMHO I think one way to make it really community-based is if it's funded by the community instead but I don't know how that would work since people these days expect everything to be free.

Yes but with this sort of site, with no real moderation allowing for some pretty horrible stuff to be posted -- they're going to not be able to fit the advertisers needs too well. Companies that are advertising on a site like this aren't going to pay too well, as it's going to be riddled with the bottom of the barrel ads -- such as investing tips, groups, scams, porn, etc.

This isn't going to be enough to support the network at all, and it's unfair to think that it will.

Sadly this isn't truly possible if you want the network to scale into the levels of Instagram, Reddit, etc.

Funding by a micro charge per post eliminates the possibility that small fringe groups or persons can spam the system, making it appear that a fringe opinion is mainstream. Those micro charges add up pretty quick if one is posting thousands of messages.

Wouldn't that just allow a small group of the ultra wealthy to spam things? Even people with enough money to beat the next person would be able to make it seem like their voice holds more weight.

Micro payments and such don't make people too happy as well, as they ensure that people are now paying themselves -- which isn't different from before, as on Facebook you're paying through the ads that are targeted at you. But people would rather ads hit them rather then them having to physically pay themselves. It's a weird world we live in, but you're going to have to live on ads to go mainstream.
