2081  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [US Only] Subsidized gym memberships? on: July 29, 2019, 05:22:24 AM
A lot (most?) health insurance companies have gym membership reimbursement...nope here is your $25 enjoy.

-Dave

Do you think these programs pay off long term?

Tough to say. I think it will motivate people who go to the gym a little to go more. Since you do have to go 'x' times to get the credit.
And there are a lot of people who can use the motivation. So for them yes. And being more active as a rule will make you more healthy which saves them $ so it is a win win situation there.

For the rest, possibly. But remember, insurance companies have a lot of people crunching numbers. If they did not think they were going to save money they would not do it...

-Dave

I think this sort of thing is ripe for abuse though. As 'just going' to the gym doesn't really mean anything. I could just swipe into the gym and then just leave, within all of 15-20 minutes.

I see where you're coming from here, though I do think it'd be better to support education for people into healthy eating and the importance of working out rather then subsidizing businesses into making more and more money. Education has a much better payoff for us rather then shareholders just wanting their company to lobby for government subsidizes.
2082  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What if (fill in the blank) was a Dapp? on: July 29, 2019, 05:09:14 AM
Can't really see how a service like this could even be a dapp. People would flock to Silk Road (and the other sites) due to the fact that they were able to hold up standards in regards to the vendors that were allowed on them. They forced these people to deposit a bond, pass some checks, and then would have to ensure quality of their products through a middleman service provided by the site (as they held funds in escrow)

I don't see how smart contracts could run this anyway.
2083  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "Your Data Were ‘Anonymized’? These Scientists Can Still Identify You" on: July 28, 2019, 01:50:25 PM
I think everyone in the world knows that this is the case. They can say that they're going to be 'anonymizing' my data and that there's no chance of anyone being able to link it back to me, but that obviously wouldn't be the case for these companies to make a profit. So -- yeah, here we are.

People truly do need to take a stand against this sort of behavior instead of allowing it to be the norm. Once we accept it as the norm, companies are just going to continue to steam roll us with this sort of thing. If we boycott companies who due this, and hurt their bottom line they're going to have to change.
2084  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should A Bar Be Forced By The Government To Give A Pregnant Woman Alcohol? on: July 28, 2019, 01:27:48 PM
Alcohols were prescribed by doctors as medicine to few people to over come more serious problem than drinking alcohol. If that woman that kind of person then nothing wrong with it and the baby i still not born so the full control is in the hand of that woman.

There is something wrong with drinking when you're pregnant, and that's why you're not supposed to do it. Unless you'd like to expose your new born child to something like fetal alcohol syndrome, which is a great thing to do if you're a horrible parent.

It should be illegal for pregnant women to drink alcohol, as they're causing harm onto their child without care for that child. It should be like if you weren't to feed your child, or to miscare for your child when you've already given birth.
2085  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What do the US taxpayers get from military postings around the world? on: July 28, 2019, 01:23:42 PM
People forget that these relationships are able to be used for the US to get economic deals around the world and to protect their business interests around the world. The US is able to leverage their military defense of other countries to get good deals with the rest of the world.

Also -- The US uses these bases to protect other bases around the world, for example: The US uses their bases in Germany to route injured Americans from the middle east back to the US. It's an easier and safer way to handle things.

Some other ones that I've found in  my research

Deterrent - Rogue states know that their are military bases close to them, so they're able to be kept in check (think of Iran, NK)

International Relations - The US dumps a lot of money into their military bases, and a large amount of money is spent hiring the locals around the bases. This means that a local government may have tons of their civilians working for the US military/ government. This without a doubt helps in international relations
2086  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Nuking China (possible scenario) on: July 26, 2019, 11:24:55 AM
So what you're saying is that when you think 'china is going off the edge' you mean that China literally wants the entire world to blow up and to decimate the entire human population because they're denied use to the sea.

A world nation isn't going to go to the extreme of nuclear warfare, as all that is going to do is ensure that the world is decimated and over with. You can't use the sea if all of your people are dead.

NO.

2087  Other / Archival / Re: Andrew Yang Super PAC Will Accept Lightning-Powered Bitcoin Donations ₿₿₿ on: July 26, 2019, 11:12:19 AM
Publicity stunt.

This isn't used for him to get any more donations then he would get by credit card, or any other medium that is currently used.

Bitcoin itself (or an altcoin) would (in my view) bring in more donations.  The LN isn't there in terms of adoption to allow for 'the masses' (even in the crypto space) to use it correctly.
2088  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Boris Johnson is the new Prime Minister of UK. on: July 26, 2019, 11:10:01 AM
Nothing to be surprised about to be honest. I think everyone knew that this was going to happen, and it did. He was the only person who is a firebrand from the conservatives and has shown he is able to keep unity (and whip votes correctly within his party)

I don't think anyone knows how he is going to do as a leader -- but we're going to have to see. We do have to remember that the people did vote to leave, and if they have to leave without a deal then they have to. That's that.

I'm going to post back on this in a week or two, when we see what his policies and advisers are.

@squatz1 I too was expecting him to win but not with such a big margin, and yes deal or no deal Brexit has to take place in October. In the past he’s made many controversial remarks so let’s hope he performs better this time, and yes do keep us posted if you have anymore insights into his leadership skills.

Boris Controversial Remarks: https://www.msn.com/en-us/video/sports/boris-johnsons-most-controversial-remarks/vi-AAEJQfe

Controversial remarks don't point to someones leadership skill or lack thereof. Just want to point that out.
Brexit is Brexit, and it is what we voted for. The scenario was explained in great detail when we had the initial referendum. So called "leaving" the EU with any associared conditions is not Brexit. The plan that we voted for was a clean break, followed by a two year period when various trade agreements and political associations were nbegotiated and arranged. Well the Eton/Oxford elite that controls the UK and the EU managed to fudge and stall everything whilst they continued to diminish the UK. Boris has managed to clear out many of the obvious treasonous politicians that were in government, but the real power and influence lies in the Civil Service, and I'm not sure how he can cope with that.

We have a massive trade deficit with the EU. If Johnson is a real leader, he will stop going to Brussels to arrange "deals", and request that they send representatives ro Westminster to conduct negotiations.

Can you give us examples of this? I seem to recall a big red bus and a bunch of lies.

@Baronets Brexit was never explained to people, and by the time they realised what they had done it was bit too late. There were calls to take a second referendum because now UK people did not wish to leave EU, but their leaders decided against conducting a second referendum. Johnson will have to bend the kneee and go to Brussels if he wishes to get a deal done otherwise he’ll end up loosing Scotland, not really sure why you expect EU to come to Westminster for further negotiations.

News Sources: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/brexit/5163675/will-second-eu-referendum-brexit-vote/

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/jul/25/nicola-sturgeon-calls-for-new-scotland-independence-vote

These calls are literally by the opposition party, it's not something that shows that more then half of people are supporting a referendum (or a new one in this case)

Also - It's vital to mention that any poll that does state this is as flawed as the polls that said that the UK was planning on staying (which the people obviously didn't vote for)

Polls these days have pretty massive flaws.

This isn't available for betting on any of the cryptocurrency accepted gambling websites. You could request to add them through their official Ann Thread. If it is viable for them to add surely it'll get added or else they'll give you clear detail for not adding them to their list.

I doubt this has the volume behind it to truly warrant the crypto sites to add it to their site. This is a celebrity match, and it's nothing too interesting for avid gamblers cause they know this literally can go anyway.

The small niche sites that aren't too reputable are going to take this on at first -- we'll see where it goes from there.
2090  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there any online casino that show algo or proof of fairness? on: July 26, 2019, 10:57:23 AM
Every single casino provides the 'provably fair' information. I don't think I would trust all the information that they give at face value, and I would 100% recommend using an independent site (like DiceSites) to ensure that the site isn't lying to you to get fraudulent bets past you.

Be cautions in the world of crypto. TRUST, BUT VERIFY.
2091  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Martingale revisited on: July 26, 2019, 03:47:13 AM
Martingale won't work, ever.

It's because one of two things will happen. Either you will

1. Run out of money before you can make another bet again

2. The 'max bet' of the casino will be in place so you're unable to keep 2x'ing your bet.

It's just that simple. There's no way to revisit this sort of topic because it always ends the same way.

.....
Everyone else: I encourage you to continue the discussion here free of censorship.
I think there was already a vote on whether to hold hearings on impeachment, and it failed.

Yeah. This guy fails to understand that impeachment isn't popular at all, and the new Mueller hearing showed no change from what the Mueller report offered to people. You know what that means? It means that impeachment charges won't come up again and President Trump won't be impeached.

SIMPLE.
2093  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [US] Attorney General wants to backdoor all encryption. on: July 24, 2019, 06:23:52 PM
Horrible to see. Though this does seem like the status quo of rhetoric from his predecessors and senior staff the DOJ (https://techcrunch.com/2017/10/11/everyone-bored-to-death-by-dojs-latest-call-for-crypto-backdoors/)

If something like this is to happen, we're going to see the overall destruction of the tech space in the US. That's not something that we can endure as a country. The EU is going to see massive growth in regards to their tech space. This will be stopped by big tech, with tons and tons of lawsuits and lawyers if they try this.
2094  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [US Only] Impeachment Vote on: July 24, 2019, 06:18:05 PM
Receiving stolen goods is illegal afaik? Check into page 48.

No, the real Mueller report, not the one you obtained from Alyssa Milano.

Wait... what?

I linked to a .gov site. Not some random ass site. What sort of refutation is this? Sounds like some projection from your neck of the woods.

Also, I was wrong about the page number, Page 60 is where Trump Jr. gets the dirt from Wikileaks (aka, receiving stolen property).

Not sure if the PDF isn't allowed to be loaded in foreign nations, but this is page 60:

Are we calling this a theft?

The guy literally got a username and password for a site and used it. I fail to see what was wrong here.

There was no collusion between the Trump administration and the Russians. It's pretty simple. Mueller even said this
2095  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Poker Myths - Help you become better players on: July 23, 2019, 10:17:37 PM
People also have to focus on their bankroll. That's a VERY large part of Poker. You may lose a crazy amount of hands even with the best cards, and that's alright - it happens. But at the end of the day if you're able to manage your bankroll properly -- which pretty much means knowing that your poker balance is an investment. Don't get emotional, because sometimes you are going to lose but that's alright.

PICK GAMES CAREFULLY - If you have $10 don't go into $1/2 blind hands. You're going to lose all of your bankrolls very shortly. Start small with what you have. It's an investment after all.
2096  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [US Only] Impeachment Vote on: July 23, 2019, 08:56:16 PM
Plus people feel as if you're pulling away a democratically elected person because you don't like him -- which is BS as well.

Mueller's testimony is tomorrow. We'll see if that changes a few views. Overall, it's pretty obvious that he didnt colluded with a foreign hostile entity to boost his election numbers. If you win, you should be rewarded with a victory.

I corrected that for you, take a look!

Trump didn't collude, by the way, that's what the Mueller report was about. Mueller's testimony isn't going to deviate from the report, which is what he said as well.
2097  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [US Only] Impeachment Vote on: July 23, 2019, 08:45:31 PM
I wonder when we'll see impeachment pass the House. Right now, it's a minority of Democratic representatives listed in the first post. Eventually, I think we'll see a lot more come over to the right side of history on this.  Cool

My prediction is November 22, 2019.

Never. We will never see impeachment proceedings pass through the house.

I'm going to bet that most of the information present right now is it -- relating to the 'dirt' that they have on Trump. So that pretty much means that moderate Democrats and all Republicans aren't going to vote to impeach him.

Why is that? The public doesn't support impeaching and then removing this President from office. People may not like him, but removing a president from office requires a high crime to be committed and Trump hasn't hit that.

Plus people feel as if you're pulling away a democratically elected person because you don't like him -- which is BS as well.

2099  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [US] Removing taxation of all women's feminine products. on: July 23, 2019, 03:37:10 PM
Remove VAT on anything that relates to menstruation. Seriously. If anyone thinks it's a "non-essential", that person must be made to sit on a spot a woman without pads sat on.

Make-up though, I'm not sure. I mean, I expect a minimum level of grooming from people. So maybe no VAT for powders and uncolored lip balms (things both sexes can use).

They should remove taxation from gym memberships, sportswear and protein bars. It would do more good for American women because it's common knowledge that a slim lady with no makeup will always look better than a whale with a ton of it on its face.
Wink

I agree with this but for everyone. Would definitely do anyone a favor.

They should remove taxation from gym memberships, sportswear and protein bars. It would do more good for American women because it's common knowledge that a slim lady with no makeup will always look better than a whale with a ton of it on its face.

Diet matters more than exercise when it comes to weight.

A sugar tax might help. Especially on sodas, these have large amount of sugars and usually the reason people exceed their recommended calorie intake.

Agree on the part about womens products -- it doesn't make sense that we live in a world that will somehow attempt to class tampons as 'non essential' items for a women. Though if this is going to happen, I think it would without a doubt be far to class means health products as 'essential' as well.

Sugar tax - eh. When this sort of thing is implemented, people stop drinking the regular versions of sugary drinks and go ahead and use the 'no sugar' or 'zero' verisons of the drink -- which aren't much better for you but are able to skirt these types of regulations.
2100  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sanders Campaign Workers Demand $15 Hourly Wage on: July 23, 2019, 03:17:13 PM
I'd like to see how he'll handle this "inconvenience". Since he's asking companies to pay this kind of wage, maybe he can provide an example by doing it himself.

Now that the Sanders campaign is in full swing and people are working  tons and tons of hours they may be earning less than the $15 minimum that they wanted. This is sometimes the case in other jobs when you take on a salary position, as you're paid for your year and not per hour.

Do you think they'd ask for more than $15 if they think they are actually working more hours than they expected?

I highly doubt he's ever going to pay his own workers -- the low level ones, $15 an hour. It'd be too expensive to run his campaign like this -- unless he wants to use this as a marketing stunt and pay everyone $20 an hour or something along those lines. Could be good advertising.

Well yes, they would without a doubt have asked for more if that was the case. But it's not.
