2401  Other / Serious discussion / Why do people dislike Blockstream? on: February 24, 2019, 07:05:42 AM
I've seen this sort of rhetoric coming out of the BCH camp a good amount of the time, talking about al of the horrible things that Block stream is doing to Bitcoin. To be dead-honest with you all, I don't know if there's any truth to anything about the anti-blockstream rhetoric.

Could someone try to explain why people have issues with Blockstream, and why the BCH camp team is right / wrong.

Could I ask why a good deal of you who post in this thread regularly have hats as your avatar, I don't know if I missing something or can't read the hats. Please let me know, I've been sitting here making up reasons and I need some real reasons soon!
2403  Economy / Gambling / Re: Free betting contest and new platform kings.ag on: February 24, 2019, 06:48:21 AM
This is just a random thread which is going to attempt to lure in your money and then run with it, if anyone is new on here know that that's something that CAN happen. Bet on trusted websites, and trusted websites only. Once your coins are sent, they are gone forever.

How this works

It doesn't. Don't bet on this shady site.

What the hell is this about, creating a thread with a single link only and the explanation is only on the title? I would not even risk my self to click the link, please try harder to get interest on what you want to share/advertise. What do you expect by posting link only? Miss click by some people?

Edit: OK you add some more information now and it is related to an ICO gambling project.

See I didn't think this site could get anyworse, but they've done it. #Surprised.
2404  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-02-23] John McAfee Affirms One Bitcoin Will Equal a Million Dollars Before on: February 24, 2019, 06:41:02 AM
He was joined by Jesse Lund, who leads Blockchain and Distributed Ledger market development for IBM, in this prediction. McAfee twiited about it 3 hours ago:

Legit or not, I personally like such predictions when they made by famous people. False hope feels less stupid when respected members of the society express even more exaggerated expectations. Smiley

I think the only reason most of us like his prediction is the fact that he'll eat his penis if it doesn't come true. At least that's why I'm interested. That'd be hysterical.
2405  Other / Meta / Re: [RELEASED] @mention notification bot - now with Telegram on: February 24, 2019, 06:35:52 AM
This is an amazing thing that you've created Piggy! I love it!

Might want to add for the tele section though that '@' isn't necessary when sending the bot your username on tele. Just simply writing the username works. The other way with the '@' doesn't work.

For the part when you contact the telegram bot, is just required to start a conversation/chat with him by writing anything. It doesn't need to be the username.
I should test the case you mentioned if it didn't work though.

I meant to write 'when sending the bot your username on bitcointalk' typed a little too fast and missed that.

Hope that helps!
2406  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US and Colombia Attempt to Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Venezuela, chaos ensues. on: February 24, 2019, 06:18:12 AM
Instead of sending "aid",  why not just end all of the sanctions, release the nations assets and stop trying to replace the government through an active coup.

Who would accept a bandaid from a person with a knife who is actively stabbing them?

Maybe the Maduro government should hold real elections, instead of ones where they're rigged to the point where other parties know that it's not even worth it to run -- as Maduro is just going to rig it. Maybe Maduro also shouldn't be stripping his legislators of all of their power and then forming another legislator that is just his party.

Maduro has broken the constitution of his own country and is a failed leader. Want to hear some of the examples of Maduros failures?

1. Maduro forms a program named "Safe Homeland" which was an attempt to lower the crime rates in the country. Since the initiation of the program, the murder rate has increased by approximately 8 percent in 2-3 years.

2.Economic Policy - This is the worst of them all, as Venezuela has seen hyperinflation to the toon of 2 million percent per year. The country has been in a depression since 2014 (so five years now) with no end in sight under the government of Maduro.

3. Maduro, through his failed policies, has been forced to give up massive amounts of power to the military members of his country to maintain control. As without them, and their support, he would be no more.

He is not a legitimate President, Guaido is. ( a legitimate interim President)

2408  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto Winter is Over - Spring has Come on: February 24, 2019, 05:45:00 AM
I know a lot of people have got enough of the sub $4000 value of bitcoin
but calling this the spring or the start of a bull market is waaay to early.
I really thought after reaching $4000 during the week the value would
have fallen back, lets see where the markets go from here before getting
too optimistic.
Alot of people are getting very optimistic because of this bump up in price because they were getting tired of it being sub $3500-4000.
To get over this hump of $4000 value is crossing a psychological barrier which affected most of these people who are rejoicing right now with an increase of $450 per coin from the start of the year.

Even if I don't agree that we're out of a 'crypto winter' I will without a doubt agree that going over a number such as 4000 is breaking a psychological barrier. Just like going back under 4k would be and going above 5k, etc.

I just don't like when people think that going down by a massive amount (from ATH) and then going up a tad, is 'a recovery' or something like this.
2409  Other / Politics & Society / US and Colombia Attempt to Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Venezuela, chaos ensues. on: February 24, 2019, 12:24:16 AM
Despite a military blockade at the Venezuelan border by disputed President Maduro, the United States and Colombia attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to the nation. Maduro has said that he thinks the delivering of aid is a way to humiliate his government and cause mass defects. Protests have ensued across Venezuela, as protests have clashed with government forces.

In the WSJ article that I've read about it, Venezuela desperately needs the humanitarian aid as poverty has soared, the economy is crashing, and inflation is around 2 million percent per year (yes you've read this)

Read the article here - https://www.wsj.com/articles/venezuelan-troops-defect-amid-showdown-at-border-11550931389?mod=hp_lead_pos1

I think the sad truth of this all is that if some humanitarian aid can cause mass defects, you should probably resign and let someone else run your government. As you're probably not doing a good job. What does everyone else think about this situation?
2410  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto Winter is Over - Spring has Come on: February 24, 2019, 12:05:46 AM
Ah, here comes these posts again. We're down a shit ton since 20k, and now we're up a couple percent and people are freaking out. I love the Crypto space for stuff like this, it's hysterical.

I hope you're right. I think that 400 dollars isn't anything big. We were here in December. Until we go back above 5000 I won't call it crypto Spring.
There's a lot of green which is great but it will take months before people get back their confidence. I don't think we'll go below the previous bottom but 3000 is not yet behind us.

+1.

Money is flowing in. It looks like we've found the bottom. Is crypto winter over?

We haven't found the bottom yet good sir. And it's just another good thing.

The current rise in the market will suffer more. Just wait for some more downs. Wink

The market could go three ways right now, I've done a lot of analysis to come to this conclusion. The market can either go up, down or stay in the same area.
2411  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US agents kill 2 civilians in a failed attempt to import weapons into Venezuela on: February 23, 2019, 11:49:04 PM
It's difficult to understand what the U.S. is really doing. Why? If they wanted, they could take over any country, quickly and forcefully, through the use of specialized mini-nukes. America wants peace. And they want it worldwide so that they get it for themselves.

It isn't the mindset of Americans to take over any country. Live and let live. It's only when other countries threaten the peace of America that America acts aggressively. However, it would be nice to know what goes on covertly and why.

Cool

Ah, I can only dream that one day I can learn the reasoning behind all of the crazy events that happen in our day to day. Until then, I guess I'll just have to post random shit on the internet and pray something sticks.

The US isn't importing weapons btw, they're bringing in humanitarian aid which was DONATED.
2412  Other / Off-topic / Re: Proof of Authentication: Discord Chat on: February 23, 2019, 11:40:38 PM
why not just create a damn channel on freenode where we can at least mask our IP's etc? Tongue

You trust Discord with your text/speech/location etc etc? Fuck that..... Tongue

The reasoning behind using this platform is the ease of use -- and the number of people that already do use it. If you want to go ahead and make your own Freenode platform, go right ahead. I think members of the community would like that as well. But to each their own.

You can use VPN or Tor, click on 200 fire hydrants and you'll be good.

I've gone ahead and made a community on Discord so we're able to communicate with one another, though to be able to be apart of the community and message on it, you need to verify yourself as a member of the bitcointalk community.

For anyone that hasn't used Discord yet, it's a mixture of Slack, Teamspeak, and Skype to form an amazing group messaging application.

Here's the link to the community if you'd like to join, I do hope to have a vibrant community built over there! - https://discordapp.com/invite/yu7XyW5

Simply state your discord name in this format. You'll soon be verified on there manually by myself, hopefully we can have this automated in the future.

2415  Other / Meta / Re: Voice chat with members on: February 23, 2019, 04:08:56 PM

Already one user with  username "Account Seller" already joined the community.

Well that has put me off ever joining the community. I'll see if I can find an open source software package that I can host on my own server.

This person has already been banned. You're going to have issues like this within any community, just like we have here. I'll work something out to auto remove people with names of this sort.

Hope it doesn't put you off joining the community! First couple days are just going to be working out the kinks.

Within the day I'll setup a group that only allows you to chat within the community if you've verified your name on here on a thread, though I can't make this yet -- as I'm at work -- I'll without a doubt have it setup later to remove issues like this from arising again.

EDIT: I've made it, check here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5113519.new#new
2416  Other / Meta / Re: Voice chat with members on: February 23, 2019, 03:01:24 PM
I too think discord will a be a good alternative or solution to address such voice connection's.

You could read a good article about discord on how do they handle the calls.

How Discord Handles Two and Half Million Concurrent Voice

For anyone interested to be apart of the discord community for Bitcointalk, I've made it here.

https://discord.gg/yu7XyW5

It seems a good start to me, but you should try creating a thread about it and let people post a POA (proof of authentication) in the thread with connected discord account. This will at least avoid scammer entering and ruine the conversation. I am saying this as you mentioned about following Bitcointalk rules in the welcome message.

This is actually a very good idea, I’ll set something up like this when I get home!
2417  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi Wallet - Making Bitcoin Transactions Untraceable on: February 23, 2019, 06:08:02 AM
How long would it typically take to use coinjoin anyway? From start to finish that would mean.

As I could see this hurting centralized mixers pretty badly, though only if the time spent mixing is close to comparable. Let me know!

Last time I gave it a whirl (a couple of weeks ago) it took about 3 hours in the best case and I gave up after 6 hours in the worst case. Maybe it's better now, but it seems like there's still a bit of a chicken-egg problem: The less people use it, the less convenient it is to use, the less likely people are to use it again. I think especially the relatively large minimum amount (compared to centralized mixers) makes it harder for people to join, leading to prolonged waiting times. I do hope this gets better in time and as awareness spreads.

Hm, yeah that's a pretty big problem -- though I do see the Catch 22 type issue here and that's not something which is good.

I think another issue with Wasabi is the issue of there being too high of a minimum for conjoin, which I think is around .099 (somewhere around $380 USD as of right now) That's going to price a good deal of people out of using this service, and that's pretty sad to see as it is a good service that could be used to bring privacy to so many. I don't know the reason behind this sort of minimum, I do hope that there is someone here that could shine some light on that.

2418  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Jussie Smollett now ‘classified as a suspect’ for filing false police report. on: February 23, 2019, 02:21:14 AM
One of Smollett's siblings was quoted after the truth began to leak out about the hoax: "This is the media, the irresponsible media. It will make the criminal look like he's the victim and make the victim look like he's the criminal."  (Mind you, he is speaking of the same media who covered the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings and the Covington Catholic high school confrontation - so I suppose he has a point).

Speaking of Kavanaugh...

Well Liberals loving having a double standard, right? That's their favorite thing to jump to if they're having an issue.

It's a crazy world that Jussie's story is going to soon fade into oblivion, even though he made up his story. But there are still liberals that swear, without evidence, that Kavanaugh is a rapist.

For anyone interested to be apart of the discord community for Bitcointalk, I've made it here.

https://discord.gg/yu7XyW5

Hopefully, we can all have a good time here! Would be fun to see real-time chats.

For anyone that doesn't have discord, it's like a mixture between the old AIM chat and Teamspeak. It has areas where you can voice chat and just text chat with people, alongside private messages with people as well.

Here's a download link to discord - https://discordapp.com/ -- Not necessary to download though, as you can just use a web app if that's what you'd like.
