3121  Economy / Economics / Re: returning to normal on: April 13, 2020, 05:14:22 AM
1. After quarantines/lockdowns are lifted, there will be a "new normal" where people will still practice social/physical distancing, washing hands, or wearing masks out of fear of getting infected.

Businesses will have a hard time gaining customers like theaters (as stated in the OP) and even restaurants. I've seen a video on Wuhan where a vendor is having difficulty selling even after the lockdown has been lifted.

2. After a cure is found for COVID-19, everything will go back to the "old normal". People will go back to the old ways as if the pandemic didn't happen. We've already seen this happen in the past and I don't think this will change because of COVID-19.

3122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why is Telegram associated with fraudsters on: April 13, 2020, 04:54:58 AM
The Telegram privacy features is like double-edged sword. It attracts Legit users who wish to maintain their privacy while going on with their business and Scammers who wish not to be traced for their fraudulent acts. One example is that any user can delete their private messages both on the sender & receiver's end.

To address all these concerns, Telegram also came up with a new feature. Legit users can now report suspected scammers and Telegram will put a "SCAM" label next to their usernames with a warning if proven guilty. If you wish to report also, just contact telegram support or message @notoscam and provide the necessary evidence.

Here's a sample of a tagged scammer on telegram:

3123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEWS]Chinese tech giants Tencent, Alibaba filed for the most blockchain patents on: April 13, 2020, 04:32:31 AM
This is not surprising really.

I remember Mark Z. was saying something like China is taking over the blockchain industry when Facebook/Libra was being questioned by US Congress.

Jack Ma, before he retired as Alibaba CEO, has also been very open that they are interested in blockchain technology.

The Chinese attack is arriving hehehe. We are already witnessing the beginning of its occurrence with Changpeng Zhao and Justin Sun's purchases of popular websites, exchanges and blockchain businesses.
I'm not sure what you are trying to imply here but they, being Chinese businessmen, might have gotten information that we aren't aware yet.

In any case, did anyone pay for theblock subscription? Share the paid analysis please hehehe. Thank you.
I tried to look over the net but no luck. Everything leads to subscribing  Grin

This story was also covered by yahoo by the way. Some feedback in there were hilarious and encouraging.

"Chinese tech giants Tencent, Alibaba filed for the most blockchain patents last year"

U.S. government did the most 'blocking laws' last year

So the country that does not care about patents, wants one now

3124  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Not To Buy Fake BTC! on: April 12, 2020, 02:44:24 PM
I can't blame the newbies for falling victim to this buying of fake bitcoin. If you search and type "buy bitcoin" on google or other search engine, it's https://buy*bitcoin*com/ that usually appears at the top instead of https://bitcoin.org/en/buy or other exchanges.
3125  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: [MEGATHREAD] Pilipinas Coronavirus/COVID-19 Thread on: April 12, 2020, 12:59:06 PM
@mk4, OP need updating. The new website for tracking COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is now
Code:
https://www.doh.gov.ph/covid19tracker

Interesting data as of April 11, 2020.

Total tests done: 38,640
Unique individuals tested: 33,814
No. of positive cases: 4,913
No. of negative cases: 28,870

I'm still confused why the positive cases tested (4,913) differs from total confirmed (4,648) as reported. I'm not sure if it means the other labs who made their tests are not yet certified by RITM/DOH.

I also read that they will no longer use PUI and PUM to classify COVID-19 patients but will use Suspect, Probable, Confirmed instead.  According to them, the change was done to have uniform reporting of cases.

  • Suspect - those who have mild, severe, or critical symptoms but have not undergone testing yet.

    Quote
A suspect case has influenza-like illness such as 38 degrees Celsius body temperature, has cough or sore throat, has difficulty in breathing, and experienced sudden lung problems from undetermined cause.

A suspect case also has travel history to a place or country with local transmission of COVID-19 within 14 days before the symptoms have shown and has close contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19 individual.

Suspect cases can be those who are 60 years old and above, have heart illnesses, delicate pregnancy, and health workers.
  • Probable - those have mild, severe, or critical symptoms that have undergone testing but the results are not yet certain or the test was conducted in an unofficial testing laboratory.
  • Confirmed - those who tested positive.

3126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptocurrencies can now be send without the use of internet. on: April 12, 2020, 06:16:48 AM
firstly I have never heard of this exchange "Criptolago" secondly what I think is how does bitcoin work without an internet connection? because in the article it's still not explained how it works.
The article sited in the OP was poorly written. You can try this one instead. What happens is that they have to create an account there first before they can use the service. Once an account is created, you can now send crypto via SMS to other Criptolago users.

You send crypto via SMS > Criptolago receives the request > Criptolago sends crypto to the intended beneficiary

FYI, Dash has been allowing Venezuelans to send thru SMS since 2018 according to that same article I shared. They call it  Dash Text.

This is how it works:

Instructions

CREATION

The first step to use the Dash Text service is to create a wallet. In order to do so we must:

To send a text message to: 3457 or 9910 from Venezuela, 899979 from Colombia or 607-307-DASH from United States with the word “CREATE”, afterwards we will receive a welcome message of the Dash text system and our Dash address will be generated.

With our Dash Text wallet created we will be able to send and receive Dash through SMS with no Internet needed.

SEND & RECEIVE

To receive funds we must give our phone number to other user (valid only for Dash Text users) or the address of our Dash Text wallet so other users  an send us funds.

With the Dash Text service it is enough to send a message to 3457 or 9910 from Venezuela, 899979 from Colombia or 607-307-DASH from United States with the word: “RECEIVE”, and the system will respond with our data so that we can forward them easily and safely.

To send funds we must have the phone number (valid only for Dash Text users) and the address of the recipient of the funds.

With that information we just need to send a text message with the following format: the word “SEND”, the amount (in Bolivars or Dash) that we want to send (specifying the monetary unit after the amount Dash or Bolivars) and the address or the phone number of the recipient. Then, we must confirm the transaction by sending the command “YES”.

CONSULT

To consult the balance or the price of Dash we must send an SMS to 3457 or 9910 from Venezuela, 899979 from Colombia or 607-307-DASH from United States, with the word: “BALANCE” and “PRICE” and we will receive a message indicating the amount of Dash and its equivalent in Bolivars that are available in our Dash wallet and the information referring to the price of 1 Dash in Bolivars at the date and time in which me made the consult.

Here are other platforms that allows sending crypto via SMS (not particularly in Venezuela):
3127  Economy / Gambling / Re: Winz.io 🚀 WELCOME 🎁 Special Slots and Live Casino Bonuses 🏆 Daily Tournaments on: April 11, 2020, 07:18:34 AM
Please allow password verification or at least give the players an option to view first before clicking the sign up button. It's a small thing but this saves users the trouble in case they typed a different letter/number/symbol when entering their password.

About the documents and other such details, this are required by the licensing authorities. Currently, we are only accepting cryptocurrencies for the platform and we are working with the platform provider to eliminate these requirements in the next few days.
~
What requirements are you trying to eliminate with the platform provider? Is the documents that you require users to submit? If so, why ask the platform provider and not go directly to the licensing authorities?

Since you are currently accepting cryptocurrencies only, does your current withdrawal policy applies? It appears that what's written there are for fiat/card transactions.

Quote
29.1 Payments are processed in a time not exceeding 72 hours starting from the moment that the request was made. Before the first payment will be made to the User by electronic payment methods (Skrill, credit or debit card, etc.), the client is obliged to attach an electronic copy of a passport to the Documents section to confirm their identity. Remember that forgery is severely punished by law, and in cases of suspicion of placing a counterfeit or an edited copy of the documents by electronic methods, Betnomi reserves the right to send such documents to the appropriate regulatory authorities.

But if it applies to the above, do you not plan on relaxing those policies a bit? Like setting a minimum withdrawal/deposit before requiring KYC verification?

Meanwhile, what a devastating news for Rose Namajunas. Her 2 people on her family died because of Covid 19. My condolences for her Sad. SOURCE: https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/29017786/rose-namajunas-ufc-249-exit-due-covid-19-deaths-family
This explains why she pulled out of UFC 249 even before it was cancelled.

~
I'm not sure it will be very easy to hold events on a private island if flights are banned...
Dana plans to hold the event sometime in May. Things could have settled down to allow flights and other public transportation by then.

~
So the government intervened to cancel the event even though you have private island and no jurisdiction the authorities will always find a way to shut things. I think if the Fertitta brothers were still owning the company they might find a solution.
Tachi Palace Casino Resort in California where UFC 249 is supposed to be held is in a private island?
Only UFC 249 was postponed and not the events on the yet to be disclosed Fight Island on May.

Sa budget na yan, hindi ba included yung PhilHealth diyan? Definitely, Malaki ang mababawas sa 172.37 billion and di natin sure kung nag-eexist pa yung pera na yan. The cut in the budget has a huge impact, makakapagprovide sana tayo ng mas maraming equipments for testing, additional quarantine rooms, medical supplies and such that will help to prevent the increasing amount of deaths here. Okay ng dumami ang cases, it means the government is tracing all of those PUI and PUM para hindi na mag-spread pa yung novel coronavirus, huwag lang dumami ang death cases sa ating bansa.
Here's a simple breakdown of the 2019 and 2020 approved budget for our healthcare:

2019's Php 165.92 billion approved budget (source):
  • DOH - 98.57 billion
  • Philhealth - 67.35 billion

2020's Php 172.37 billion approved budget:
  • DOH - 101.02 billion
  • Philhealth - 71.35 billion
As you can see, there was no budget cut in the total funds (both for DOH and Philhealth). There changes with the allocation of the funds within our healthcare sector but I don't think there's a need to discuss that in detail.

I've noticed na some of the PPEs and testing kits ay donation pa from the other countries.
~
Yup, any help we can get is needed. Donations must be one of the perks of being a third world country lol.
The good thing is that test kits made from UP has been approved by the FDA for commercial use. Some sectors have also agreed to manufacture PPE sets locally. Those are huge steps for us because we can't rely on donations and importations forever.

~
I doubt they underestimated the virus outbreak, as news arrived, all the people, particularly those in the medical profession, asked for an early travel ban because they knew the system's vulnerabilities and incapabilities.
One instance why I said they underestimated the virus - In Philippines, still no need to use face masks vs 2019-nCoV: DOH official

There was another where I read DOH claimed it's not airborne but later studies suggests it is.

~
While I definitely hope not, various cities going all-out looting à la battle royale is slowly but surely being possible. Remember what happened to Tacloban after Typhoon Haiyan? That, but potentially nationwide when the government runs out of funds. The idea in itself is scary as hell. I need a gun lol.
Yeah, nobody wants those kind of events from happening again. That's why I appreciate what the Government did in prioritizing the low-income households. Not even our armed forces can control them once they get hungry, go out on the streets, and start rioting.
3131  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: [MEGATHREAD] Pilipinas Coronavirus/COVID-19 Thread on: April 10, 2020, 03:08:35 PM
One of the famous Mayor on Metro Manila Isko Moreno will be giving out a lot of rice subsidies sa mga kababayan natin check out the news. This is one thing Filipinos are expecting from our Politicians.

I wonder how much giving out the government can do left before there wouldn't be much funds left though(alam naman natin kung gaano sila kalakas kumupit). Taking into consideration ung mejo recent address ni pangulong Duterts.
~

The money from the local and national government will eventually run out soon. Both Mayor Isko and President Duterte knows that and that is why they keep addressing the public (with desperation in their voice) to follow ECQ protocols strictly to contain the virus as fast as possible. Asking help form the private sector and realigning the 2020 budget are only temporary measures but If we don't kick start the economy in the next month or two, I think we will be in big trouble.

My conclusion to this tally, sobrang baba ng ating recovery rate unlike sa mga kalapit na bansa. IMO, hindi pwede na ito lang ang pagbasehan natin dahil mas maganda ang record na may inclusion ng rate of population at mga na-test para malaman natin ang pagkakaiba and also PUM & PUI sa bawat bansa. Tho, big amount of deaths in our country really shows na hindi masyadong handled ng DOH at di tayo ready sa mga situation na ganito. I think this is the effect ng pagbabawas ng funds para sa department of health which is obviously sobrang importante dahil sa panahon ngayon, anytime pwede na magkaroon ng mga panibago at iba't ibang sakit.
The "unpreparedness" was not the effect of a budget cut. The initial proposal for the 2020 budget was lower than that of 2019 but the approved budget was actually higher.
  • 2019 approved budget: Php 165.92 billion; 2020 Approved/Signed - Php 172.37 billion (source)
  • 2020 proposed budget - Php 166.5 billion (source)

I think there were major boosts/improvements in our healthcare system since this current administration took over but it's still not ready to take on a global pandemic like COVID-19. We can also assume that our medical experts had underestimated this virus but, to be fair, almost every country did and many of them had a better healthcare system than us.

With the increasing daily testing capacity, with more quarantine facilities being built and with more protective gears & medical equipment being bought/manufactured/donated, hopefully we can flatten the curve even further and lessen the number of casualties.
3134  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Need suggestions on: April 10, 2020, 05:21:09 AM

But I think it is a bit late kasi plano ko bumili nung below 300k sana siya. Should I wait na magdip ulit or bili na ko ngayon kasi tingin hindi pa time na bumili ulit e.
Those who didn't buy when it was around $100 (ATH at the time) probably thought it was also too late.

I cannot be sure if it will go below Php300K but there's a chance. It can also shoot up to Php400K. Such is the unpredictability of Bitcoin but if you are here for the long run, the probability of Bitcoin's price going up is higher than going down.

Whether you buy now or not is still for you to decide.
3135  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Average Developer Activity in Last 90d on: April 10, 2020, 04:43:55 AM
~
I wonder why it doesn't reflect in the price of ADA though.
Because the Altcoin hype is gone and investors/speculators realized that Bitcoin remains the main coin that moves the entire crypto market. The price of most alts that we are seeing right now is probably what it's price should be if 2017 to early 2018 pump didn't happen.

~ does that mean the coin has a good future because their developer are active very much?
I guess it still depends on what the activity is. Git activity is just one of the many factors to consider and it does not necessarily mean they are good or they have a bright future.

For example, if the project has a poor use case and the dev team insists on pushing that, what you get is a shit project with active devs. It would be a different thing if the dev team keeps on working and adding something new that will make the coin/token really useful.

He wasn't swayed by the health concerns raised by many and all it took was an order to stand down from Disney & ESPN executives (ESPN is the exclusive pay-per-view distributor of UFC events). Buy bitcoin and wait until it moons?  Grin

Seriously, you can buy bitcoin now because it's way cheaper that where it was before this COVID-19 became a global pandemic. Despite the price volatility, you can still profit if you hold it for long term. Remember that this is only a suggestion and not a financial advice. Follow at your own risk.

If you have other skills, you can try some online gigs that pays in crypto. Check out these platforms:

I read in your Terms of Use that users can withdraw through their connected personal bank accounts. Is that the only option? If so, you might consider adding more in the near future. One of things that makes coinsph stands out among Filipino users is the numerous withdrawal options. That's just a suggestion but it might actually increase your user base.

KYC policy is also strict that everyone is required to submit personal information before anyone can deposit or withdraw. Maybe allow a small amount for tier 1 verification level (email/mobile verification)?

An update from the DOH COVID-19 tracker:

For those who are monitoring the official Philippine nCOV tracker, the website will be down until April 11 because they are in the process of encoding all of their backlogs. I'm not sure why it's going to take that long but it's better that they do to give us complete and updated information.

Warning from the FDA:

In case you are seeing posts on social media by some individuals/groups claiming they have the cure for COVID-19, please be careful of these misleading posts. There is no known vaccine/drug yet and they are just trying to profit from the desperation and fear of the public.

I'm all for taking in FDA approved food supplements to strengthen our body's immune system and help fight any virus but no one should claim or make it appear that it's the cure for COVID-19.

Singapore was praised by WHO and by many countries on how they handled the pandemic. Some of our citizens are even suggesting that our government should follow their lead. Well, their government also implemented a one month lockdown because they can no longer contain the second wave of infection coming from local transmissions.

.... Confronted with a sudden surge in new cases, almost all of them contracted locally, the government has decided to adopt much more stringent measures to slow the spread of the virus. On April 7th all but essential businesses closed, with Singaporeans allowed out of their homes only to buy food and medicine, to exercise and get their hair cut. The “circuit-breaker”, as the government calls it, will remain in place for at least a month. Those who violate a new law banning public and private gatherings risk a $7,000 fine, a six-month stint in prison or both. Even Singapore is no longer able to preserve a semblance of normality.
