3163  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Easiest way to buy bitcoins with credit card. on: November 14, 2012, 05:46:38 AM
damn, can i witdraw from mt. box to paypal? or something similar from where i can send it to my visa card/bank acc

MtGox does not do paypal, but you can withdraw it to Dwolla, and then transfer to your Bank account, been a while but I believe that's still the standard method for USD withdrawal (international withdrawals can be done via Wire Transfer).

If you want faster than the Dwolla -> bank takes, there are numerous methods for converting bitcoins to PPUSD.

FastCash4Bitcoins.com,
BTC-E,
VirWoX,
Bitcoin Nordic,
Coin2Pal,   <--  New, so  may wish to contact first, or request to use an escrow.
and more.

Additionally, there are frequently individual traders on #bitcoin-otc who are willing to purchase your bitcoins with PayPal.  Using the history from the Web of Trust (WoT) helps to less the chances of seeing a chargeback later.

3164  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 14, 2012, 04:32:57 AM
It's just as much the depositor's fault because they drew substantially the same conclusion with substantially the same information.

Where do you come up with this?

If I am speeding down the freeway, behind another car that is speeding down the freeway, I am not at fault if that driver gets in an accident due to driving at an excessive speed.  And at the same time that driver is not at fault if I get in an accident due to driving at an excessive speed.

3165  Economy / Gambling / Re: A delightfully simple spin-the-wheel game (that's provably fair) on: November 13, 2012, 11:37:00 PM
It's designed for Chrome and Firefox only. I'll add a message on the site about this.

This is with Chrome browser on Android.  This occurs the same under both a mobile device as well as with a tablet (Nexus 7)
3166  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buy Bitcoins Instantly with Market Rate on: November 13, 2012, 10:36:36 PM
We sell Bitcoins with market rate, it means no fee nor commission added, go to: buy bitcoin

It took a little clicking to realize that to see the exchange to/from bitcoins you scroll down on the home page.  The UX on that design isn't intuitive.
3167  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: ICBIT Derivatives Market (USD/BTC futures trading) - LIVE on: November 13, 2012, 10:24:50 PM

It probably means someone short was just about to get dinged for the daily variation margin at the prevailing price of around $10.50, when right before the clearing 250 BUZ2 positions were sold, bringing the "last" trade prior to clearing all the way down to $10.10.

So instead of that party with the short position seeing a negative variation margin, a positive one resulted instead.

Of course, this was interesting because shortly after the clearing, trading resumed at the $10.57 level.  This makes some nice profits for whomever bought just minutes earlier below $10.50.

This occurs pretty regularly right before clearing time.  I keep forgetting to put in some lowball bids right before clearing so I can get me some of these BUZ2's at that daily discount.

3169  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoins are being accumulated at an unprecedented rate! on: November 13, 2012, 09:34:45 PM
It seems obvious that bitcoins are being accumulated at an unprecedented rate.
so why isn't the price moving up?

There's currently 7,200 BTC issued per day.  With just under 10.4 million issued to-date, that means the currency is inflating at the rate of more than 25% on an annual basis.

If that were a fiat currency that would be considered nearing levels that cause hyperinflation.   With bitcoin, the demand is such that even that currency inflation level isn't too much at this price (including knowledge that in just a matter of days that currency inflation rate will drop by half to about a 12.5% rate, again on an annual basis.)

But the exchange rate is up ... 133% in 2012.

( maybe mtgox uses fake coins within their system to trade with )

They say they hold 100% of customer deposits, as does most every other exchange.  But there's no third party audits so we can never be positive.

That's why exchanges and other hosted (shared) EWallets should not be where large amounts of coins should be parked, except when needed for trading.
3170  Economy / Gambling / Re: [ANN] SatoshiDICE Android and Desktop Apps Released on: November 13, 2012, 08:55:30 PM
We will be trying to get it in Google Play.

Notice this:  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zynga.livepoker&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS56eW5nYS5saXZlcG9rZXIiXQ..

So, the store does allow gambling apps, so long as it's not "real money."

Thus the question is... is Bitcoin real money or not? Smiley

Good point.  I hope to see it included.

Hello, all. I'll be following along to answer any technical questions/issues about SatoshiRoller.

After leaving my Android device idle it goes to the Lock screen.  It appears that after I unlock and the app reappears that the (green) background image is repainted at the wrong image size and not at the full resolution of my display (this is on a tablet).
3171  Economy / Gambling / Re: [ANN] SatoshiDICE Android and Desktop Apps Released on: November 13, 2012, 07:33:40 PM
These are not yet available on the SatoshiDice.com website, because I wanted the community here to get to play around with them first.

Is it fair to say this app won't appear on Google Play?

Hello, all. I'll be following along to answer any technical questions/issues about SatoshiRoller.

I installed it and am waiting on "Connecting ....".

It has been several minutes. How long should that status persist?  [Edit: Ah ... now it says "Fetching blocks ... nn%", so at least now I know how long I need to wait.]

For the message that displays my deposit address, ... it would be helpful to display a QR code.  I'm getting in the habit of primarily using my mobile for everything, and in this instance, funding the SatoshiRoller wallet on one device using a Bitcoin app from another -- with QR codes as the way to pass the Bitcoin payment address between the two.
3172  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 13, 2012, 11:17:54 AM
Aug 10 08:10:41 <patrickharnett>   mainly because the 15,500 coins I hold on deposit are not invest in BS&T

If you lend me $1, and I haven't done anything with it, then I still hold that $1 that was deposited.  But If I lend that $1 to someone else, I no longer can say that I hold $1 on deposit.

You don't say that you hold a deposit when you no longer hold those funds and instead have turned around and lent those funds out.

You might make the argument that Patrick made a mistake and used the wrong words (versus intentionally trying to deceive).

The issue in this case is that both Patrick and those who loaned him money made precisely the same mistake,

Nobody else but Patrick is "on trial" here though.

The Plot Thickens in the Bizarre Bitcoin Blackmail Caper

3174  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-11-12 American Banker: The Plot Thickens in the Bizarre Bitcoin Blackmail C on: November 13, 2012, 09:48:23 AM
I think it highlights the susceptibility to vindictively planted circumstantial evidence by unscrupulous individuals.

Like ... did the Secret Service just remove 3.5% of the supply of all bitcoins held in existence?

Sure, it being known that those coins get locked up for a few years would definitely increase the value of the remaining bitcoins.

And then ,... can the Secret Service actually protect those coins?

Or, is KnightMB really a good chess player and he's really just playing the USG?   OK, so assuming the Secret Service has seized the fat wallet, then now consider the scenario where KnightMB spends the funds (using another copy of the wallet but sent to an address under his control).

So now the USG is on the hook for losing a citizen's private property (to the tune of several million dollars).   So KnightMB ends up with his original 3.5% of the supply of all bitcoins held in existance plus a few million dollars of fiat from the lawsuit for the missing property (I mean, how could he lose such a suit ... they left him penniless after the raid and now they lost his stash of bitcoins too?)

Wouldn't that be quite a story if that's what happens?

[Hopefully, if the USG has a wallet of his with any funds in it that they are transferring those funds to an address under their control so as to keep the funds secure.]

The integrity that comes from taking an unpopular position because you believe it is correct and because you believe it is what the community needs to hear.

I'm sorry I've been holding back from commenting on this thread (as I've never had any business dealings with Patrick and thus this topic is really none of my concern) but now with that comment I must interject.

This logic of yours is NOT what the community needs to hear.

If someone says they have funds to personally cover any losses and then doesn't actually cover said losses there's not much left to argue about here.
3176  Economy / Gambling / Re: A delightfully simple spin-the-wheel game (that's provably fair) on: November 13, 2012, 08:47:27 AM
It appears there is no memory of games that have started.

Specifically, let's say a browser crashes in the middle of a spin.  The funds are lost.  I can log out and log back in and my funds are lost and it is looking for me to start a new game.  I don't see any way to resume from where the crash occurred.

(This happened to me after starting to play with some newly deposited coin.)
3177  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Problem woth mobile app "Blockchain" on: November 13, 2012, 08:11:07 AM
Won't connect to more than one peer...

Peers?

The Blockchain for Android or iOS app is a mobile app that communicates with a back end / host.

Where are you seeing that it connects to peers?  [Edit: I see, in the top left eventually appears a "signal bar" that shows "1 peers connected".  I don't remember seeing that before.  I think that is more like a yes/no ... if it appears then yes it has connected to the back end host (and will show 1 peer).  If it cannot connect to the back-end host (e.g., no wi-fi, no data signal) then no "signal bar" ever appears.]

how do I save the petty coinage on here?

An encrypted copy of the wallet can be saved using the "Backup" from the Blockchain.info/wallet web site.   You can also export the private keys from there to be imported elsewhere.   An alternative client, MultiBit, can import the encrypted Blockchain.info/wallet backup.

But the mobile app doesn't work without a connection.  So you don't need to store the "petty coinage", as it isn' t on the mobile app it is in your encrypted wallet on the host.

I welcome any and all feedback! I plan to make the game even more fun by introducing a daily jackpot, so stay tuned.

There's still this issue, with Android:

from an Android mobile when I login, the logout button isn't clickable for some reason.

The only way to logout is to get to a 0 balance and then a link for logout is shown.
