3241  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain.info - Bitcoin Block explorer & Currency Statistics on: November 07, 2012, 11:02:14 PM
- Ability to supply a private key directly to the API to send funds without needing a My Wallet account.

The instructions for that:

You can now replace the guid in the send api (https://blockchain.info/api/api_send) with a Hex encoded private key.

https://blockchain.info/merchant/4d6c9dff493fcd2da9508e01c8b13461d37e3d8b6df1732942d3257874051362/payment?to=$address&amount=$amount

$address = destination bitcoin address.
$amount = amount to send in satoshi.

So what happens to the amount remaining if I am sending less than the available input(s) used?  Is it returned back to that address from the private key?
3242  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin freelancer company? on: November 07, 2012, 09:43:38 PM
I was looking through Freelancer (http://www.freelancer.com/) and they have a ton of jobs.

Perhaps someone could create a site where you take the listings from freelancer and post them and display how much you will pay in BTC for the job. Then you submit the job on freelancer with the equivalent dollar price. Once it is complete, you pay the Bitcoin person in BTC minus your cut.

Heh, payment method arbitrage.

Wouldn't it be better though if oDesk, Freelencer.com, etc, were to simply offer Bitcoin as a cash-out method (and as a funding method for employers)?

Related:

Incidentally, here's a talk by Michael Levinson, VP of Product, oDesk, which has a lot of freelancers from developing nations.  He describes the challenges to (and importance of) paying those contract workers.  Notice that the bitcoin topic just keeps coming up over and over by those in the audience.  (Which is interesting, because this video is over a year old.)

He is injecting fake events and quotes, but we are doing 2 things to fix that now

There are a number of Bitcoin-related services experiencing atypical DDoS attacks in the past few weeks and these seem to be increasing in number.  It's like it has gone far beyond simple griefing and / or theft as the motive.  It's like there is a fatwa against Bitcoin.
3244  Economy / Gambling / Re: bitZino - Provably Fair Bitcoin Casino - Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Video Poker on: November 07, 2012, 08:49:06 PM
We have officially launched support for 2-Factor Auth for withdrawals! We utilize Google Authenticator, and allow you to set up your account to require an OTP before every withdrawal request.

That is awesome! Thanks!

and redeem private key (w/ button for scan QR code) to add funds.

Unfortunately, we have back-burnered this feature (again). Sorry about getting your hopes up before, but there just isn't a good option here implementation-wise.

Incidentally, piuk made it pretty easy to offer this where you don't need to add the private key to your own wallet, ... simply supply the destination address in an API call:

I have been meaning to add this ability to the blockchain.info API for a while. You can now replace the guid in the send api (https://blockchain.info/api/api_send) with a Hex encoded private key.

$address = destination bitcoin address.
$amount = amount to send in satoshi.

Cavirtex does not require an ID...you sound like a scammer.
Actually, you do if you want to move any real amount of money through there.

Either way, VirtEx doesn't take Interac ...

im looking for someone willing to sell me 20-25 bitcoins(=/240$) via interac E transfer.

Time to start working on finding people locally who are willing to trade.
3246  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: $120 Moneypack for 10 BTC on: November 07, 2012, 06:20:59 PM
Title says it all.

Actually, the title is rather ambiguous.

Are you offering $120 in MoneyPak to trade for someone else's 10 BTC, or are you looking for $120 in MoneyPak and will pay with bitcoins?

I presume the former, but your post isn't entirely clear.  You might put:  [WTS] $120 MoneyPak for 10 BTC to make it more clear.
3247  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin connection in bodog? on: November 07, 2012, 06:17:32 PM
Were they unofficially making it easy for US players to actually play or is it in any way related to taking bitcoin as well as a way to go around the regulation?

I know of there having been trades of Pokerstars $s for bitcoin and vice-versa, so perhaps if there was a way to do account-to-account transfers of funds (or to hand over an account balance to someone else by transferring to them the login credentials) there might have been some Bitcoin related transactions without the site having any knowledge of it or involvement in it.

Also, some of these online gaming services use a payment intermediary (e.g., Moneybookers/Skrill) which can farily easily be converted to bitcoins and vice-versa.

Here's a somewhat-related post on Ayre's site:

3248  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin-Central bitcoin withdrawal pending??? on: November 07, 2012, 03:51:35 PM
a transaction has been in status "pending" in Bitcoin-Central for 14+ hours.

When an exchange or other EWallet provider keeps most coins in cold storage, there is a supply management issue that arises.  This is similar to how bank policies exist so that if you want to withdraw large amounts of cash then you may have to wait a few days for the bank to get a transfer of the cash delivered first.

Just so you know 90% of the bitcoins are in cold storage

I don't know that is what happened in this instance, but that would explain why a delay might occur.

Paymium (who operates Bitcoin-Central) is expanding their exchange and seeing fast growth with Instawallet and their other services.  It is possible they are needing to transfer from cold storage with increasing frequency as their services become more widely used for larger and larger amounts
3249  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to check any balance and send from any private key? on: November 07, 2012, 03:44:43 AM
  • Quickly send a payment from any private key

This isn't what you wanted to do but perhaps if you want a quick and dirty solution, you can use Blockchain.info to sweep the funds from a private key to an address in your local wallet.  That way you don't need to import that private key into the bitcoin.org client.

That can be done using the API:

I have been meaning to add this ability to the blockchain.info API for a while. You can now replace the guid in the send api (https://blockchain.info/api/api_send) with a Hex encoded private key.

https://blockchain.info/merchant/4d6c9dff493fcd2da9508e01c8b13461d37e3d8b6df1732942d3257874051362/payment?to=$address&amount=$amount

$address = destination bitcoin address.
$amount = amount to send in satoshi.
3250  Economy / Services / Re: C4rfax for .5 BTC on: November 07, 2012, 03:23:47 AM
I am willing to offer to provide you will a FULL C4rFax for .5 BTC.

So what do you need to do this, just the VIN and bitcoin payment?
3251  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The last month is among us.. on: November 07, 2012, 03:19:25 AM
So there is a profit there, just a very small one.

And that is with 50 BTC per block reward subsidy.  So the drop to 25 BTC will in an instant make mining on GPU something you can no longer do at a profit, regardless of whether your rates are daytime or nighttime, right?

If you don't find a trade here, you can try on the #bitcoin-cad channel, perhaps someone there is looking to swell.

i was just going to use bitinstant, but for some god awful reason its not working. the coding is all screwy and the drop down boxes are blank and i dont get it.

They don't have any cash deposit methods in Canada yet, and their Online Bank Transfer, which was launched as a beta feature, currently responds with an error for me.

they said id need to get a new id because of the damage to my current one

Seriously?

The more these exchanges start to look like banks the more dire the need for a peer-network of individual traders.  There's nobody else on LocalBitcoins?  Or have you put up a request to buy coins?  Sometimes miners won't list themselves but do look for a buyer through the site.

3253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Instawallet URL lost - Is there any hope? on: November 06, 2012, 08:56:31 PM
Is there any hope for me?

InstaWallet is a low-security wallet, which doesn't require username or password to access the wallet.

Thus knowledge of the URL gives the ability to spend the funds.

Your browser will cache the browsing history, so unless you clear history you should be able to recover the URL from your browser.
3254  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I anonymously exchange BTC for cash and vice versa without sending cash on: November 06, 2012, 10:18:16 AM
How can I anonymously exchange BTC for cash and vice versa without sending cash in the mail?

There's a reason why cash-in-the-mail is well used ... privacy for the sender remains intact.

So if you are buying bitcoins with cash-in-the-mail, your transaction remains quite private.

But if you are cashing out your coins, cash-in-the-mail to you does not necessarily protect your privacy from the sender knowing who you are.

The challenge in trying to transfer a physical item without the sender knowing the recipient is something seen quite often in spy movies.  The same techniques applies though for truly anonymous cash transfers, including the tactic of employing a dead drop:

There are secure communications methods (e.g., GibberBot + Orbot on an Android mobile) that can let two counterparties conduct a trade without ever needing to directly interact.

Certainly though, there could be restrictions against transferring cash in this manner in many jurisdictions -- particularly with larger amounts of cash.

Now if in instead you simply meant how can you trade without showing an ID, there are many methods.

Bitcoins Direct now takes cash deposit at several banks.  BitMe.com accepts cash deposits at Chase.   Individual traders on LocalBitcoins.com can be found.

And for cashing out, LocalBitcoins.com works for that as well.

Another option instead of simply converting to cash for everything, bitcoins can be spent when making purchases.  If the places you would consider spending your coins at don't currently accept bitcoin, each reminder the merchant receives about bitcoin will help make the day where they do accept bitcoins come sooner.
3255  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The last month is among us.. on: November 06, 2012, 07:34:02 AM
I calculate profitability after the split with my GPUs,

You would be in the extreme minority then.

What do you pay for electricity?

I ran the numbers and find that about $0.11 per kWh is breakeven on the most efficient GPU configurations.  So unless you are paying like $0.07 per kWh or less there's no point in GPU mining after block 210,000  (unless difficulty takes a dive from other GPU miners dropping out).
3256  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The last month is among us.. on: November 06, 2012, 01:18:23 AM
I can't decide whether to sell my gpus before christmas when the demand is higher or wait until the flood of gpus is off the market and the prices go back up.  Thoughts anyone?

Dump at block 210,000.  Not a minute sooner, and not any later.

Let the miners who then move on to dabble with Litecoin be the ones to sell their GPU hardware in 2013.
3257  Economy / Services / Re: International Butterfly Labs Customers, Device Hosting Service in Oregon! on: November 06, 2012, 12:56:03 AM
A great question given the current extreme weather events in some parts of the country. There is a renter's insurance policy in place for the facility that would cover any electronics, among other things, so yes.

Also, I'm looking for translators to help get the word out about this service. Contact me and we'll talk about compensation.

Well, physical theft is the most likely risk, if I had to guess.

Your renter's insurance doesn't generally cover losses for your customer's equipment.    There might be a commercial policy that you could get that would explicitly cover this, I'm not sure.
3258  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whats Best Way To Convert BTC Into USD Without All The Middle Man Services+Fees? on: November 05, 2012, 11:03:51 PM
I want to convert my BTC into USD to be put into my bank account in the fastest/simplest/safest way possible without high exchange or service fees or having to signup for another money transferring service: dwolla, paypal, ect.

What are the best options/services that can do this, convert my BTC into USD to go into my bank, in the least amount of exchange/transfer steps possible?

Pick one.

The factors that matter in order to give you the best answer include:

 - Where are you located (country)?
 - How much are you looking to sell?
 - What form of cash are you looking to receive?
 - How soon do you need access to the proceeds?
 - Is privacy important?

In the U.S., ACH cash-out is definitely the preferred way nowadays.

3259  Other / Off-topic / Re: 126 New Users registert today - is this much? on: November 05, 2012, 10:47:13 PM
Is this much or just the normal amount?

A little above average.

ZeroHedge probably didn't hurt.

Here's a way to see history:

Be wary of using those metrics as criteria for investment.  It almost seems that when there is a rally there is an influx of the "one liners" who register and post.  Even if it was manual (e.g., paid via mechanical turk) it isn't reflective of true interest in Bitcoin and instead just a way to manipulate the market as some do consider things like forum posts and new users in their investment algorithms.
