Well, in the "science" category here I got the second shot of moderna yesterday. In a nutshell:

Didn't hurt going in which was nice.
Felt sleepy an hour or two later, took a little nap.
Then up till midnight, went to bed.
Woke up at 4 with a slight sore throat and when I breathed in all the way it tickled. Odd. Went back to sleep.
Woke up at 10am feeling better, arm did ache when I was lying on it.
Went about the day in slow mode (not a lot going on) but I get tired easily so I have been napping.

That's it so far, no fever, spots, delerium, etc. I did just wake up from a dream about bitcoin and bears, here's about what it was like....

Will see how I am tomorrow.

I think if you scratch the surface, you will find that Ariemoller is concerned about the lack of growth of one particular kind of population...

Redheads?

The Fed and the govt want people to spend spend spend those stimmy checks. Not hoard as savings or convert to investments, assets, etc. Consumer spending is the only thing that drives economies of the world.

Just take a look at this chart, and tell me what you see:

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M2V

Yeah, the goal of stimmy munny is to be spent all over the place. A similar problem happens with "tax cuts" except that munny isn't spent it's simply locked away in companies and bank vaults.

I used to watch M3 carefully, need to see what it's up to, or the replacement of it. M3 usually could show the true inflationary issues.

Still, I didn't think about the link between endless inflation and the disposable economy. Hm.

Yeah...I don't mean to gender bash here, but the majority of women I've met in my life are the biggest hypocrites in that regard.

They are the biggest consumers of "fast fashion", chasing passing fashion fads (cough *trends*) year after year, yet also the most vocal about planet "sustainability" and "eco-friendliness".  Roll Eyes

I know some men are just a bad though. Mostly young men.

You know, my brain's wheels are turning right now with a thought:

"Is an inflationary money policy the driver behind the desire to endlessly consume?"

Really, I never thought about it in this direction. Thinking......

I'm sure you, from all of the people, know that there's no perfect solution, and everything comes with its own tradeoffs and caveats. A tax free heaven that looks perfect on paper, can be a real shithole due to a ton of other problems. Does it really matter if you don't have to pay any income taxes, but now you have to "grease the wheels" of everyone who has a bigger gun then you do? And are a bunch of people putting a claim on all of the resources of the country is not just another form of taxation?

I voluntarily pay my Bitcoin private fees to use their service.

I do not expect ETH users to pay Bitcoin fees to use their service.

It's....voluntary....aint that great?

*huh*? Your fees pay to keep the coin running. Technically you can elect to pay no fees, but your transaction probably will never complete. So it's hardly voluntary if you want to use the service. It could be exactly like a "tax" in that if you don't pay your tax you don't get any of the benefits.

I think this is being stretched a bit too far here, how about if we just drop it and go back to bashing shitcoins, ok?
347  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 29, 2021, 01:16:54 AM
Taxes are kind of a price to pay to live in a civilized society.

If civilisation is built upon involuntary extortion...it's not really civilised is it?

Indeed! In fact this extortion for services should be removed. The first place of course is the grocery store: People should be allowed to take what they wish and pay whatever they believe is "fair".

That's kind of where your argument is going and it's not a good place. But truth be told that sort of "voluntary cooperation" was requested of people in 2020 and oddly enough a significant number chose to be "free riders" with respect to using cloth masks. So it don't work.

End of line. :-)
348  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 28, 2021, 05:19:58 PM
I'm mainly concerned about the capital gains on investments you didn't cash out. A million is more than anyone needs to live in a year.

That's a very different animal: Taxing bitcoin as property would be extremely bad, esp at a 48% rate per year. I don't think that is being proposed.

Quote
You don't pay for moving coins to a ledger anyway but not everyone will be 100% bitcoin when it goes above a million. Everyone in the US and on this forum may eventually get hit with the tax when bitcoin goes up combined with hyperinflation. Also, if the US goes to 43.8%, you can bet the EU will follow shortly. What happens when a million is equivalent to a current $100k because of inflation? Could happen in a few years at the current rate.

I think you do: If you move coins from an address to another then I thought it was a taxable event ("work" is being done, like those crazy Jewish sabbath rules). Maybe if it's not in your control, but if that's the case then the argument should be move coins around at will, tax when converted into fiat.

Quote
If you want to shift investments around, you still get hit with the tax even if you didn't take that money out to use. The effect of the tax is it forces everyone to be a holder even if they are holding a bad investment. Good for bitcoin not so good for stocks or companies. It's better for the economy if people can move their investments from shit companies to good companies as their performance fluctuates rather than be locked in due to a 43.8% hit by the government.

Agreed. This is something to work for. At that point it would be like a "tax free" 401k where you can move amounts around but are taxed on the ultimate withdrawls to fiat.
349  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 28, 2021, 04:10:48 PM
The problem is not the current 23.8% (3.8% added for Obamacare in 2013), it's the proposed increase to 43.8%.
On amounts over 1m-whatever slave wage you get paid in life, correct?

Quote
What if you're not cashing out but just moving money from one investment to another? Doesn't seem as fair when you're not actually cashing out. Maybe there should be separate rates for cashing out or just shifting investments around/rebalancing your portfolio.

That's a very good point: My buying a new nano or whatever and moving my coins to it shouldn't result in a 43% hit. That does need to be corrected and is a consequence of the whole IRS decision way back when that treats bitcoins like gold bars or something.

350  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 28, 2021, 04:08:08 PM
First off, you are wrong on math a bit (due to NIIT), second, I was talking about the Biden tax proposal (are you aware of it?), which, if passed, would apply retroactively to Jan 2021, no doubt (to prevent EOY selling).

Math? Even now, you would pay 3.8% NIIT extra PLUS state tax (add 12% more in cali). So, 43.4+state on above 1mil (in proposal).

Medicare. Fair enough. State taxes are tricky: You used to be able to deduct them against Federal, but then Trump goat-fucked people with the SALT limit. If that's not repealed then yes this would suck big time (double tap tax). At the same time, one could move to a low tax state, but a lot of those seemed to be.... poor choices for COViD this time around. So it's an interesting mental exercise (how much additional does Bob need to take out for a moat filled with gasoline around his ranch? I don't know. Does that exceed the tax benefits of TX? Not sure)

Quote
In my example, only 100K exceeds (bad example), so make it 40 coins for $500, lol, then more than a mil will exceed.

I was assuming a sale price of 50k which is probably an average of what you would get this month. If you have 40 coins then the first 50% are taxed as above, the second 50% are taxed at the higher rate. That does suck, but it's still not bad. And you could avoid it by simply rolling the cost over 2 years (do the whole thing Dec 31/Jan 1.) If more than 2m at a shot is needed then you need to hire a professional.

Quote
BTW, I also think that 20% tax is fair, and even 23.8% is OK, but 43.4 and above is approaching confiscation. I paid once 39.6% CG tax (had large short term profits in 2000). Man, that was brutal.

CG is tricky. I've always found it annoying that my labor is taxed at a higher rate than luck+"incredible foresight to invest wisely" (when you come out ahead). Putting the two on a more even footing (they are all "work", some are physical, some are mental, some are a combo of both) always struck me as more fair, but your mileage may vary.

Overall though unless I decide to liquidate a massive stash (and why would anyone do that?Huh?? HODL for fucks sake) this is not going to affect me directly.
351  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 28, 2021, 03:41:31 PM
Here we go.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-to-propose-1-8-trillion-plan-aimed-at-families-tax-hikes-for-wealthiest-americans-11619600400

BTW, if you spent $250 at the beginning of 2013, bought 20 btc and held 'them, you already ARE that rich bastard that "needs" to be taxed 43.4%+state tax if you sell to buy a house or a lake ( Cheesy ).
It sucks to be Mr/Ms smarty pants.

Well, hate to say it but if you only bought 20 bitcoins that's worth $1,000,000 today. Which means if you sell it all it's at the exact same tax rates (in the US) as it was last year. To the dime. The first 250k or so would be taxed at marginal rates up to 20% and the rest would be taxed at a straight 20%.

That's kind of life. So if we simplified the math you get a net profit of $799,750, your initial $250 investment back. I mean yeah I guess that sucks, but compare that to someone who ignored bitcoin and has $0 and none of their avoided investment lost and didnt pay those evil taxes (the freeloaders!)

Taxes are kind of a price to pay to live in a civilized society. In areas with low low tax rates and limited government they have other... issues and your protections against fraud and force are.... well less.

Plus this is per year. So I can pick up 3 Lambos a year at the same tax rates as last year. I could also buy a 20m house, and pay it off at a rate of 800k a year for 30 or so years without hitting an additional penalty. Granted a 30m house is kinda lame but you know if you need bigger than that then maybe you can bitch about the Biden tax.

So... meh?

That's a pretty stupid article: They have till November and my guess is it's an ass ton of paperwork. But let the Govt shut them down, I'm sure that will instantly drop the number of S. Koreans who want to hold Bitcoin to absolute zero. No, they won't get it elsewhere, their government knows so much better.

There will just be a bigger "won premium" as who would want a currency like the S. Korean Won.

$5 bucks says N. Korea will open a wall of bitcoin ATMs on the border in November  Just to fuck with them.

South Korea looking to be the test case for gov't interference. You can bet Yellen et. al. are watching this with interest.

Under the new regulations, crypto exchanges must register as virtual asset service providers and fulfil a variety of other criteria. These include implementing anti-money laundering strategies, having partnerships with local banks, becoming information security management certified and tracking real names of customers.

Eun said despite the application window opening on March 25th when the new regulations came into force, no crypto exchanges have submitted theirs yet. Crypto exchanges need to be approved by September 24th.

How is this different from the sludge in the US?

"Crypto Exchange Goes Dark: Near 400,000 Users Fear Possible $2B Fraud

Nearly 400,000 users of a Turkish cryptocurrency exchange, Thodex, have been left unable to access their accounts or withdraw money from the platform after it abruptly ceased operations Wednesday, Bloomberg reports."

https://www.businessinsider.co.za/thodex-massive-crypto-losses-ceo-missing-istanbul-crypto-exchange-2021-4

Most probably yet another exit scam (heard Cryptopia turned out to be an exit scam as well), but it's also possible the owner is in a Turkish prison right now having his testicles clapped by a monkey with cymbals.

Three things my grandfather told me:
1) Never buy meat from a truck
2) A Turkish prison is not a good place to be
3) HODL

In US your income is high, but costs are very high as well, hence $1 mil is a surprisingly smaller amount of money that you might imagine otherwise.
In addition, the tax is proposed to be coming now and improvements later, but so far I personally haven't seen ANY improvements in government/state services here in the last, say, 30 years, give or take. They will spend the money as they will see fit.

It's still a good bit of money. Granted it's easy to have one's lifestyle "adjust" to where a million a year is "pin money" but at that point you have other issues to deal with.

In terms of Govt spending, well we did get one hell of a 20+ year fake "war" for our $$$ and I am impressed so far with my COVID shots....

I did something my self recently where I sold a portion of BTC into an unnamed alt. Took advantage of my CGT allowance, held the shitcoin for 30 days then bought my original BTC back (actually made a little more due to said shitcoin going up more than BTC)
This then resets the CGT counter back to zero so I will only have to pay CGT at current rate on the BTC I bought back at the price I bought it at AFTER the 30 days.

Ok, but question: Does this do anything for you tax-wise? For example if you bought at 60 and sold at 60k then you owe 20% CGT on 59,940. You pay that when you shift into the altcoin. If you buy BTC back at 60k 30 days later then you still have to pay CGT again if you sell it in the future, but at (future price-60,000) which means the tax hit is the same.

Only reason might be because CGT is taxed at your current rate up to 20%, so if your sale+what you make as a wage slave is under 200k or so you pay less taxes as you're in a lower tax bracket than 20%.

360  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 23, 2021, 12:19:11 PM
Follow-up question on the capital gains tax: if stock markets drop because people are locking in current profits by selling stock, does that mean they have to pay taxes now? Which would mean the US government potentially gained billions of tax just because Biden made an announcement?

I'm still flabbergasted by the idea that Americans can choose when they want to pay their taxes.

In the UK, we pay 20% on CGT but that’s only on profits. We don’t have an annual wealth tax so it’s only payable when we decide to sell. There was a review on spending/finances a couple of months back but luckily CGT was left alone.

Well, it's always on "profits" (appreciated value), correct? For example if you buy 1btc at $60 and sell it at $60,000 your CG taxes are computed based on $59,940 and NOT $60,000.

I think this is just more weak hands panic. Fortunately one can profit off the stupidity of others and each time it happens there are fewer dingalings holding bitcoins.
