Are you new to economic downturns? First time?
Are you saying this economy was nice and solid and it took a nightmare black swan event (that we had happen 3 times in the past 20 or so years mind you) to knock it into disaster ville?

First time?

This is a food distribution center (bread line) in Las Vegas.

I have to note that every single car there is much nicer and newer than anything I own.

Hm.
1143  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: KnC Neptune Cube and Raspberry PI??? on: May 08, 2020, 02:44:37 PM
Yeah those should work. Miners all were using BBB's at the time, I think KNC went to the Pi's on the TItans bc stocks of BBB were low.
1144  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: KnC Neptune Cube and Raspberry PI??? on: May 08, 2020, 11:38:13 AM
It's one of these.

KNC used ones without a power connector or USB connector and used a 4gb SD card. It gets the power from the controller board.
1145  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: KnC Neptune Cube and Raspberry PI??? on: May 08, 2020, 11:24:59 AM
Wow. In  a small nutshell the KNC miners had all of the polling of chips and data management handled by a board that did the magic with a FPGA to talk to the miners and either a Raspberry Pi (for the Litecoin KNC titans) or a Beaglebone Black (for the Neptunes).

I still have a few of the boards, and could send you one or two (without the BBB, they are useful other places) for the cost of shipping and a beer if you'd like. Do you have the 10 pin ribbon cable too?

Nice. Things are going better.

Remember though: It's not that bitcoin is worth more. It's that fiat is worth less.

Am relatively confident I didn't pay 3x more for my shopping than I did a couple of months ago. I'll check again.
Retailers are way behind the curve. And going bankrupt.

That's probably a pretty good idea, because many of us likely realize that there is no real "all or nothing" in this world, but there may be a lot of dissatisfaction that comes from striving towards an end goal that might never be achieved... however, that should not mean that we should not attempt to be in a place in which we are enjoying ourselves at a lot of points along the way.

Accordingly, we don't necessarily need to be able to say "fuck you" to the man and to be totally enabled to live on either passive income or in some citadel or island that we control in order to be happy, and each of us should be able to recognize that we always have a kind of island, but sure having more wealth gives us way more options within our own island.

So, for example, any of us who has 6 months to 12 months to even 1-2 years saved up in one form or another (whether we are referring to our bitcoin stash or some traditional investments or a combination of these), then we are going to be way more empowered to either say "no" to any employer who might be putting us in what we believe to be an unsafe situation or at least be able to negotiate better terms because we have more options.  So, even if that is not complete fuck you status, it could be something that is working in that direction, and gosh.. might be difficult to figure out, too, when "piss off" status might be achieved.

You hit the nail on the head from my point of view JJG: I don't have enough money to completely stop working (and I really wouldn't want to, I enjoy doing work much of the time), but I have enough to tide me over for a significant amount of time where I can find a job that I like, is not going to ask me to sacrifice myself, and is something that I could say does "good" in the world (for whatever definition of good is mine).

That's a pretty powerful place to be and bitcoin+savings+skills I have acquired in fixing and maintaining life's stuff is a big part of why I am where I am. I'm glad for it, it's something I have kind of lived my life with this in the background: The ability to walk away from bad situations and never be enslaved to someone or something. I stay, I work, I love because it's something I choose to do, not something I have to do.

You know, that's worth a lot more to me than a Lambo. But that's just me.

Certainly, the amount of cushion that we had created for ourselves is going to help to some extent, and for younger folks a cushion does not always have to do with having a shit ton of assets, because young people might not have a lot of assets built up, but they have time and skills, and so sometimes they are able to leverage in terms of their time and skills rather than their built up assets.
Younger people have skills, adaptability, the ability to live in dumpsters/steam grates if needed, etc.. Knowing how to live on the streets or in complicated situations is an exceptionally good skill: In a way it can mean you don't have to stay in an abusive relationship for example. Yes it sucks, but it could suck less than other things. You have an option.

I had been complaining a few weeks ago about how this whole situation is affecting people from a lot of social statuses, but surely the billionaires are likely the few that have been affected less, if they have a private plane and can fly to some location that is of their choosing, in the event that they may have found themselves in some location that is less ideal.. but probably even a lot of them have been negatively affected, even if they have quite a few more options than many of us relatively more normies... .I was not even thinking about the benefits of having my own plane or a helicopter or anything like this, but seems like it could provide options in times like these, that's for sure... oh multi-millionaires might also be able to aspire to private plan status, but surely those in regular fuck-off status would not have those kinds of options, and surely those in piss off status would not even really be considering those kinds of options (except maybe in a kind of fantasy consideration or maybe they would need bitcoin to do at least a 50x from here to be able to get too that private plane level).
Hm. The big trick about money is it can only buy what is for sale. No amount of money shoved into an engine can fix it by itself, and one of the consequences of this kind of disaster could be people having to figure stuff out for themselves instead of just buying the expertise. Example: Me. If I don't have a reasonable work environment, a purpose, and a goal then no amount of shoving money in my face will exceed the value of my life....

Shove bitcoin at me though.... :-)

1155  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 06, 2020, 01:39:42 AM
You know, something I realized this evening:

If (and this is an if) my company were to order me to go back into the office, because I have bitcoins I can tell them to fuck themselves. Been thinking about this and realized that people may be asked to choose between their job and their life....

I'm glad that choice is a simple one to make. And bitcoin is a part of that. Wealth gives you the freedom to make decisions, and I can't think of a more important decision one can make.

Oh for fuck's sake:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/04/investing/fed-junk-bonds-etfs-debt/index.html

No, there are no longer any consequences for bad actions, and the government will underwrite any risk you take. Why not?

3 trillion here, 3 trillion there

pretty soon...something something

profit?
Kind of interesting actually. At a certain point there simply are no consequences for the worst behavior. Almost as if you had a rich daddy giving you everything.

Speaking of which looks like people are starting to shoot others over wearing masks. Yep, it's worth someone ELSE dying over.

I was thinking that a 12 gauge was a bit bulky... and does not hold very many shots...  maybe 5 shells for standard, but I suppose there could be some with extended magazines, and maybe there would not be a need for more than one or two shells in terms of hitting the target.

Surely, this could be one of those "why not both" situations.  I will ponder a 12 gauge as a supplement, but in terms of hitting a virus.. maybe a 12 gauge could hit a virus a bit better than a 9 mm, too?
They are a bit big but if you have a second or two to prepare 5 shots will seriously clear a room. Anything still standing after that is probably an undead monster, at which point you need the silver bullets or something. Hm. Wonder if they make silver buckshot loads....

Shot won't penetrate body armor but the face will be quite unhappy even in that case. There does exist "buck and ball" shot, but I've never tried it. Then again I am (hopefully) not defending my house against elephants.

Against the virus you want birdshot.
1160  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 03, 2020, 10:11:13 PM
9mm seems the most reasonable out of the small ones, no?

I mean if you are using it for home defense or maybe self defense (or maybe wanting to be a hero in some mass shooting situation?)
Home defense = 12 gauge shotgun IMO. Handguns are too damn erratic and bullets go all sorts of places. Shotgun is a nice solid can't miss pattern, 8 buckshot pellets are devastating at close range, and if you get a semi automatic shotgun it's a point and click interface.
