Is there anything else one can do with Single or MiniRig than mine bitcoins. Just wondering what kind of "insurance" I have if BTC crashes.

People have been saying that there is currently no other use for the Singles, unless BFL supplies an alternate bitstream....

however, reading this thread:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=49971.msg811855#msg811855 gives the impression that even if the chips have an encrypted bitstream, that an open stream can still be installed on them. Of course it depends on what kind of chip is being used.
Yeah you would have to know exactly the make and model of the chip, and I don't think anyone knows it yet.

Glad you got those coins back and whoever initially stole it must have turned Robinhood in the meantime.
Probably just scared shitless of the FBI getting involved.

So, are they back on the "tolerable to do business with" list?
Nah, still fucking scammers. Verfy my SSN? What is this bullshit?
3484  Other / Off-topic / Re: You might be a Scammer If... on: April 19, 2012, 04:59:13 PM
You goto IRC and post:  <Honest> Buying 10-150btc for $7 each.. Paypal.. Willing to email proof of ID when the price is $5.
Gotta do something with all those fake IDs that the banks are just now catching on to.
3485  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Anyone who owns MSI 7970 cards needs to read this... on: April 19, 2012, 03:39:07 PM
So I am on my third 7970 card.
The first two... rock solid, Liquid cooled and I can OC them for days.

I figured, I gotta get one more...
Ordered it from Provantage, When I put it in my rig, it doesn't seem to act as well as the first two...

But, I figured, I have it on fan cooling right now, I will wait to judge until I block it and run some blue juice through it.

All my cooling stuff is Koolance.
So I get my new block in, and take the new slightly broke in card apart, WOW!

The Rocket Surgeons at MSI left the clear tape on ALL the pads, it clearly says remove before using.

So the card that was acting crazy, (After I voided the warrentee by removing the heat sink) has the heat sink packing tape still attatched to the pads!!

Notice the Shrinkadink action from being overheated...

Really unhappy with this.
Aha, what dorks. Also looks like the thermal paste is glooped on like peanut butter as usual.

You are contemplating theft/fraud out loud.   Good work.

Your ridiculous...

I said, "They get new servers/pc's and the electric bill... I get the Coins"
Do you think they would be getting new equiptment for free and not know why?

Either your definition of fraud is scewed or your just ignorant...

Your assuming what I was suggesting that I tell them that they needed a new server, make them buy it and then steal time/electric.

... just because your mind works that way, lets not ASSume that everyone elses does...

Not touching this with a 10 foot pole. If you are so inclined, go ahead and see what happens.

I believe that it's worth taking action against Andre ... because doing so will restrict his ability to operate another business for a while and make him subject to penalties if he leaves the country without permission.

how lovely... glad i'm out... coz i wouldn't even do that to an enemy.

Plenty of sketchy operators (and WBX was sketchy from the outset) are serial offenders.  I have no problem with the brakes being put on their ability to open new businesses for a while.  It's not in the interests of the Australian public that people whose businesses are de-registered and not properly wound up and who don't pay their creditors be free to simply open new businesses at will.

There's little point in people going to the trouble of obtaining judgements against Andre if they're not going to enforce those orders.

perhaps, but in my mind restricting movement is a bit immoral without any proof of wrong-doing.

No proof?

oh, i haven't seen any. apologies if there has been some.

I dunno, I figured all the shouting and hand waving from defrauded users that want to chase Andre with pitchforks was enough.  Roll Eyes

You can now send bitcoins via email:
- An email containing the private key is sent to the desired email address.

This seems like a really bad idea.

Email is a postcard.  Writing private keys on postcards is asking for trouble.

The problem is, of course, is setting the precedent.  It's likely that it'll be perfectly safe for a while, until some dodgy admin gets the idea to scrape all emails for keys and mtgox codes.

It's a shame, I know, you're only trying to make it easier to use bitcoins.  Don't do it at the expense of security though.

You have to find a breakpoint somewhere. What about all the banks that send password resets by email? While I agree that email is patently insecure and needs major help, I think this functionality is necessary for new users to help introduce them. Who knows, maybe some new users' coins WILL be stolen because of an email related insecurity - perhaps that would wake them up to the fact that there is more they could do to keep themselves secure.
3490  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [OFFLINE] SIMPLECOIN.US [PPLNS/SMPPS] on: April 19, 2012, 03:14:32 PM
If all of the coins are returned to 12433rWhhxBajfyishqomz44K657GqKxCr before the investigator returns my call, I'll be swayed to end the matter.

It seems alot of sites running the simplecoin framework got hacked legitly or claimed to have been hacked.

Im curious do you know of what exploit was used to get in so that it can get patched ?
In addition, it is also possible to go through the source to find vulnerabilities, unlike most closed source pools, so if anyone missed something, it could be easier to find and exploit.

Glad to hear that the coins are back.

"I went to the bank to get my $0.40 back out, and it wasn't even the same $0.40, I checked the mint marks on the dimes! The bank teller told me that they have a computerized balance that shows how many dollars I have, but clearly they are just taking someone else's money to pay me back mine!"
This. MtGox is a huge coin mixing service, no reason to break that functionality. You can still see your total deposits in the blockchain, but the balance won't be accurate.

Hey, if you are trying to be sarcastic, you need to try a lot harder.

That would be perfect for a PXE install.

YUP.  Smiley

I swear rjk, sometimes I think we might be brothers separated at birth.

Once I get this thing running, I should bring it over to you to do the water loop. Grin

Are there any examples, docs, etc of the remote config functionality?
Is there any technical reason this couldn't be extended to grab cgminer.conf as well as bamt.conf remotely?
That would be perfect for a PXE install.
3495  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: As-is/For parts GPUs on: April 19, 2012, 04:44:35 AM
I've read about the oven baking a video card back to life before. When I first read about this, I though it was a joke post, but surprisingly it was actually serious and it actually works for many people.

Can someone shed some light on as to why this works?? If really high temperatures and revive a dead GPU, then does putting it in the freezer also have the same effect?
It must be done carefully, a certain way. What it does it "reflow" the parts on the card - essentially melting all the solder and possibly making broken connections good again. That is actually how the cards are assembled at the factory, they pick and place all the components on the board, and then put the thing into a reflow oven to melt it all together.

Quit pushing your product so hard on people. It's like gay people trying to "recruit" you.
Because ANYTHING is better than guiminer.
Is this really true? I found guiminer to the very easy to setup and use. I haven't checked out the software forum much, what's the most efficient miner for the HD5000 series?
DiabloMiner if you are a java fan, and cgminer if you like C. cgminer is my preference, and not just for speed but also for configuration and useability. I have 4 backup pools set, and all kinds of overclocking and overvolting options set, using only one program - cgminer.

If you need an example of a working .conf I can provide it.

However, I may require you to come over to relay chats just to be mean since you quit forever.
aha, still haven't forgiven old cocktopus for disappearing? Tongue If I can't get something going, I'll be sure to show up and ask you for tech support. Cheesy

To the best of my knowledge sir passthrough works out of the box in PVE. I've admin'd production deployments of it now to virtualize KVM machines since .9

I know it isn't available in the web gui like I said, but you can edit your .conf files and provide device ID's (lspci, lsusb) and pass-through devices from your host. I've done it with a USB dongle/key, a PCI modem, and an external USB hard drive, possibly serial - all from debian host to windows guest, all successful.

Basically PVE installs openvz and KVM and an apache web interface on debian. If you get it installed and get logged into the web interface and can't create a KVM machine only openvz, enable virtualization in your BIOS.  They have fairly good support forums.
Sweet, good info.

3500  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGOX - International Wire Transfer Has Not Arrived After 24 Days on: April 19, 2012, 04:15:19 AM
Hey all, just was wondering if any support team or people who experienced this can chime in. I have a verified mtgox account and I withdraw $10000 USD pretty often with no problems, I receive it on average in about 3 business days. It has now been 24 days and counting, I withdraw $10000 USD (max I can in one time), and it still hasnt arrived, I contacted the support but they just repeat them selves basically saying its the bank doing an investigation  and they are waiting to process it mentioning it takes about 2 weeks.... I also sent another $10000 USD again and of course hasnt arrived (i sent this about 5-6 days later thinking it was just going to be a normal delay for the previous 10k). I now have about $19000 USD in my account and I am looking for alternative options as I cant afford to wait so long...

If anyone can tell me there experience or opinions on what I can do (to wait or just use another alternative that is preferably low on fees), I would really appreciate it, thank you
Use a mtgox code to send it to a trusted #bitcoin-otc member, and have them send you the funds by an alternate route. (Wire, cheque, etc).
